I’ll place this quick reply in all the D&D videos I’ve watched from you. These are amazing, simply because you explain simply. Many videos are over complicated and unless you can speak ‘Fantasy World’ language, it’s nearly impossible to decipher what is being explained. Many thanks guiding me through D&D. Please keep them coming

    So 2 questions...
Here is the description from my D&D Beyond character sheet online,
"Characters have a proficiency bonus determined by level, as detailed in chapter 1. Monsters also have this bonus, which is incorporated in their stat blocks. The bonus is used in the rules on ability checks, saving throws, and attack rolls."
Q1. This SHOULD say at the end, "IF you are proficient." correct?
Q2. It says it's used on "ability checks" as distinguish from saving throws...but this bonus is not added to any ability bonus. Why? How? Huh?

Maybe I'm a grognard, but in my day fighters got good at fighting as they went up in level, and wizards got good at spells. Am I missing something? There's only one proficiency advancement table, right? So a wizard gets the same proficiency bonus at 6th level as a fighter does when using a weapon they're proficient with?
