- In this video i show you guys 4 different ways to open your Xbox 360's disc tray if it is jammed and will not open on its own, like it should.
I know this video is a bit outdated with next gen consoles out, but this might also mean that people have had their Xbox 360s for longer and their disc trays are only now beginning to jam.
Yes my Xbox suffers from this annoying condition but if you use the method recommended in my video you will be able to get by almost hassle free!
I know this is 6 years old but today sir during lock down you just saved my life, and made my 8 year old son very very happy..not all heroes wear capes thank you so much!!

Here in 2023 and you just saved me from a jammed xbox 360 elite. Thanks so much from the present to past you. The first method with the credit card and pushing eject at the same time worked for me. Definitely made a subscriber out of me.

FYI there is an actual way to fix it. Look up how to clean the disk tray belt. It's super easy and you don't have to take it apart
Another tip is to always leave a disc in the tray. Mine jams all the time with no disc in it.
mine does that aswell but i was trying to switch the disc but it closed on its own so i looked up how to fix 9

exept my littke brother "accidentaly" closed it with no cd in it and now it won't open...
ccghidorah1 it is probably the way it works because, the spinner-thing got stuck between the disc tray, when I bumped it with my hip while getting a different disc.
I just opened mine up and it was jammed with no disc. Put a disc in and was able to eject it no problem. Might be a weight based issue where the weight of the disc makes it functional? Not sure, bit it’s a decent solution

Eights years old, still works like a charm. Found my old family xbox in my closet, and realised i had a means to power it on this time around. Also wound up with both of my grandfathers 360's, so now i have three! Only one needed this treatment, but i'm considering giving it to my cousin.

Awesome video, thank you! Having similar troubles with stuck disc tray. There actually is a 5th way to achieve manual opening. Best with front face plate off - about 2" to 2.5" down from the top of the tray on the left side is a hole you can poke a straightened out paper clip in which will manually open the disc tray.
If you see this, could you try to explain in more detail, in which direction is the mechanism and how hard do you have to press it? None of the other methods are working for me, so I'm kinda grasping at straws here, trying to save my xbox.
@@ziwuri Hi - it's been awhile since I've dealt with this issue. With the faceplate off and the xbox360 standing vertical, the hole for the paperclip should be about 2" down from the top and 1/4" to the left of the disc tray. I'm fairly sure the pressure release is straight forward - you may have to push in fairly hard to trip the release. Good luck - hope this helps! (I did try to post a picture of the console with the faceplate off, but youtube comments doesn't provide an option for that. You can search google images for an xbox360 with the faceplate off to get an idea of what to look for.)
@@ziwuri Same, I opened my whole xbox and cleaned it out and the tray still won't open, won't even make any noise indicating it's open. Mine is also the slim 360 which I believe has more problems than the standard fat version.
@@Foodyies I believe what ended up working for me was pulling off the front cover and directly pulling on the disc tray while it's trying to push itself out.
@@ziwuri Nice, I wish that could work with mine. With the slim, you can't take off only the front face you have to take off the side covers and a few other pieces too, even then it's completely locked up.

Same here, I used an old card though incase when bending it it got fucked up. Great fix and I subscribed as it was the least I could do for the uploader for giving us such a easy but important fix.

here in 2024 with a jammed xbox. this was so helpful, I was looking for a helpful video and kept finding a lot of complicated ones with a paper clip. my 360 jammed yesterday and was worried, but this got it open and was again sooooo helpful

I wish to thank you guys for taking the time out of your busy schedules and contributing to different solutions for the XBOX360 console and its possible issues by utilizing your easy-to-understand TH-cam videos, which are hands on videos.
I was unable to open my X360's disc tray today [12/20/2019] in order to watch a DVD. Upon visiting your website, which then directed me to the 1st TH-cam video [this] you guys uploaded to solve this particular problem of being unable to open one's disc drive, either by pressing the console Eject button, or using the built-in software feature, "Eject," I was successful, in no small part to your organization, in removing my X360's face, having full access to my disc drive, and pulling ever so slightly on the disc drive after pressing the Eject button. The other three (3) options did not appeal to me - the thin card insertion and then pulling out the drive with force could possibly result in permanent damage, just like the 3rd option, which is similar but a small screwdriver is used.
You also uploaded a video where the 'emergency' hole is located in order to open the drive with something very thin, which reminds me of my older days fixing PCs.

Sorry, I am not sure as I've never had this happen to me (fyi: I found that the best way of opening your disc tray of all else fails, is by inserting a thin object into the 'emergency open slot,' just like we do in our PCs).
But post your X360 problem (as opposed to replying to me) and I'm sure you'll get an answer from someone.

yo i know this video is a billion years old but the "punching your xbox" method is the only thing that works but its super consistent so thank you for showing this, I wont break my xbox doing this since i only play a few games that cant be played elsewhere here and there so it works for me!

With the one where you take the cover off, it takes varry close precision. You need to pull and let go but as you let go, use the open button. Try it a few times and in different spaces

The credit card method worked! 😀 I happened to already have the faceplate removed, and was trying to pry the tray out with a couple of butter knives, but to no avail.

The card trick is perfect! Thanks! But if memory serves me correct, there’s a manual trey open if you pull the faceplate off. I remember sticking a paper clip in to it to manually force the gears to cycle the trey open

Thanks for sharing. I had the same problem. I replaced the motor belt and the disk drive began to open properly. Yes, i had to open the drive etc. Took me 2 hours at my pace but it worked.
