Just got this box today! Been waiting ages to get it open but I'm struggling to put the teams together and now my head hurts. I'm glad I looked for a rule breakdown before I read the book otherwise I would've felt extremely bogged down. Thank you!
Thank you very much! Glad you found it helpful Ah yeah the teams are difficult to put together but hope you get there with them and enjoy the game! You might find the end of this video useful where it covers assembling and the sprues: th-cam.com/video/hKERPRwzodI/w-d-xo.html
It’s probably my favourite boardgame of all time. I played second edition and bought my own box in the 90s cheated at every game I ever played coz we didn’t built teams with money and just used all the star players we had 😅 I had the ork goblins and morgnthoeg the ogre so had so many more players than my friend playing humans. I have the two newest editions as of lockdown and can actually play by the rules now 😅 I call the game punch chess 🤜 👑
Im glad I found this guide, especially since since most rulebooks online are outdated, its painfull as a new player to catch up with current rules because I don't wanna purchase the book.
Best tutorial for BBSeason2 (or rather 7) ever made! Sums up everything nice and quick, and after 2 games replayed what you are doing i can play exhibition with my son without thinking about "what now???".
Nice video. I'll point out two things: 1) is of course correct but could have been a bit clearer, while 2) is incorrect. 1) You need to set up AT LEAST three players on the Line of Scrimage. 15:53 2) In order to get to roll three Blocking dice, your ST need to me MORE than double that of your opponent. 23:08
Good video, actually useful and love that you've used painted models. Will share on, thanks for the work! One addition to the mistakes i saw mentioned: (11:40-ish) stunned players only roll over at the end of your next turn and can only be activated the turn after.
i've always wanted to incorporate spectator sports into my TTRPG campaign but i'm more of a basketball guy. this game seems so cool, though, i might want to get a copy. thanks for the comprehensive overview.
I play BB on PC since the first release back in 2009. Love the game will probably save for the real tabletop version. 🙂 Nice tutorial! I knew the basics since I'm playing it on PC but it was interesting to see this as real dice rolls.
I had that first edition. Never actually played it. Also had the Dungeons & Dragons rule books as well as the rather amazing Hollow World set. All sold at car boot sales in the 90s. Dammit! Miss those metal miniatures. Had a couple of teams that I had mostly finished painting. Think they're all plastic now?
Oh wow that's quite a haul to part with! Yeah think Games Workshop/Citadel moved entirely away from the metal minis unfortunately; they did 'Finecast' some of the old sculpts in plastic, but these were notoriously poor
You generally have a -1 modifier to your Agility test per opposing player marking the tackle zone square you have Dodged into E.g. you're being marked by one opposing player, you Dodge into a square that's marked by two players, so you have to roll with a -2 modifier to see if you Fall Over in that square Hope this helps!
amazing video, thanks mate! but i have only one question that confuses me about throwing player. for example goblin player lands on orc player. orc player is knocked down, okay. then goblin scatters. what if he'll scatter on other standing player? this player knocked down as well and goblin scatters again or player still standing and goblin just scatters?
On the tabletop Where Nuffle's king When face meets turf Here's what they they sing When your goon GFIs Then he falls down and dies That's-a Bloodbowl When the crowd's cheering lulz 'Cause you rolled double skulls That's-a Bloodbowl Snake eyes roll, trollollollo, trollollollo You'll bellow "What the Hell-a!" Blood will spray, tippy tippy tay, skin is gonna flay, hope you brought an umbrella When your face is a scowl As you're turn 16 fouled That's-a Bloodbowl When your star player's head splits From a weak snotling's blitz You will rage Got the vidya on steam All the DLC teams Still can't score a goal Flesh will rend Well, my friend See the pain never ends That's-a Bloodbowl
ultranoob here. why does everything cost at least a thousand gold? why not just remove 3 0's to keep shit simple i.e a lineman could cost 45 gold instead of the added thousand.
Would you ever do a super ultra comprehensive video for League Games and such? I've been getting REALLY into watching leagues (thanks Boneheads!) But I'm getting lost on some of the rules not mentioned here
Does a failed throw of a player result in a turnover? Throwing a player sounds hilarious but a relying on a 6 to successfully throw the player doesn't sound worth it if I down at least one teammate as well as lose my turn lol
Not always! If the Passing Ability test is failed then the throw is still counted as successful but the airborne player scatters and is at a -1 modifier for their Agility test to land safely; if they fail and fall it's a turnover It's only an automatic turnover if you roll a natural 1 for the Passing Ability test of the throw so pretty good odds that they won't immediately faceplant to mess up your turn!
If you roll a one after fouling, it is just for the player. You cannot use a bribe. You can still roll for the fouling player or a secret weapon the next times. Also supporting by a block depends not only for the target. Offensive support has to be next to the target and has to be in no other tackle zone. Defensive support has to be next to the blocker and also has to be in no other tackle zones.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah absolutely the case with the assists; perhaps could've made that clearer in the video When rolling a one after fouling though it does say in the book that the coach is ejected along with the player and you may no longer Argue the Call with other fouling players (p.63)
@@JamHammer The newset FAQ clarified that although the coach is sent off, it doesn't use up a bribe and bribes can be used after this although you can't "argue the call" again. Gobbos get one re-roll on it though, so all good 😁
I get the distinct feeling this game would be way better and sell more if it had less rules. I feel like a good half of the mechanics could be removed without taking much away from the game. Has anyone ever made a homebrew streamlined ruleset?
I agree there'll be a big market for a simpler game like this.. but the complexity is exactly what's nice about it as you start to wise up, especially when it comes to the different dynamics, traits for teams and play styles 🙏
I still don't want to adopt the new rules. I think the Living Rule Book was authentically Blood Bowl. I hate that GW fans let themselves get neglected for almost 20 years then decided to abandon something that I felt made the game special. To me part of what mad blood bowl cool was how zanny and out there it was and what could signify that better than a rule book that looks like it was torn apart then put back together with duct tape and nails. That sorta cool coloring outside the lines mentality I liked, GW won't support it but we the players will. What the hell happened?
I've wanted to play this game since the 90s, but it was pricey when I was a kid and out of print for years. Finally I am getting it.
Fantastic presentation. I watched an entire 40 minute video about a game I have the rule book for. Thanks Nate
Thanks very much! Great to hear you found it that engaging

@17:28 It's the kicking team that rolls both Kick-Off dice. You're thinking about the weather roll, where indeed, both coaches roll 1 D6.
Cool, now i understand the videogame better. I always wondered how the rules work and maybe i will buy the tabletop game.
Ah great stuff, glad that it helped! It's a really fun game to play on the tabletop especially if you already enjoy the videogame version
This is the exact reason why I'm watching this video 😁

Blood Bowl is awesome this is a good video better than the official snippet rules
Thank you very much! Yeah really enjoying playing it
I still have my copy of Blood Bowl First Edition I bought when I was in England in 1986. I had it signed by Jarvis Johnson
Oh cool; that's an amazing piece of Games Workshop history (and must be very valuable!)
Im glad I found this guide, especially since since most rulebooks online are outdated, its painfull as a new player to catch up with current rules because I don't wanna purchase the book.

Thank you so much for putting this together! This "short" intro is helping me greatly getting started and figuring things out!
Very helpful video. served as a great reminder for me and my brother in our first game with the new rules.

Very well and clearly described rules.
Learnt alot of things.
Cheers
This seems so so fun and I really would like to play. Once I get enough money I'll buy it
Excellent! Yeah it's a really fun and often hilarious game to play
its on sale rn if you dont already have it. On steam that is.
Great video, just got bloodbowl and could'nt find answers to some of the rule questions and you pretty much answered them ...
Thanks very much! Really glad to hear you found it useful and hope you enjoy playing the game

Another person here after trying bloodbowl 3 game. Started to win ai games now I understand the game more. Not playing humies yet 😊

great video thanks for making
Thanks very much!
I had a question regarding one of the rules. How do you know how many modifiers are added whenever a player dodges into another tackle zone square?
You generally have a -1 modifier to your Agility test per opposing player marking the tackle zone square you have Dodged into
E.g. you're being marked by one opposing player, you Dodge into a square that's marked by two players, so you have to roll with a -2 modifier to see if you Fall Over in that square
Hope this helps!
That helps a lot, thank you!
Joining a league next month. This helps
Brilliant! Glad it helped and hope you enjoy playing in the league
Awesome stuff thanks 😊
Thanks very much!
Loved the video
This helped alot, thanks
awesome video thank you.
Thank you very much!

Solved in the current FAQ/Errata
Really want to try this, just struggling to justify the £95 asking price for the starter set!
Guess it's to be expected from a company like GW
Don’t buy direct from GW, get 20% off at other retailers
Really cool
Thanks!

Whoops so it is! Many thanks for pointing that out
I'm coming over from 40k. Where did you get those BEAUTIFUL orcs? Are they the official GW models?
Black orcs team.
Are you ready for some blood bowl jim?
Couldn't be more excited for some thrilling sports action, Bob!
Best game ever made
Its like tabletop version of the XFL lol
ultranoob here. why does everything cost at least a thousand gold? why not just remove 3 0's to keep shit simple i.e a lineman could cost 45 gold instead of the added thousand.
Cos it’s cooler if a star player costs 250,000 gold rather than a measly 250.
People like it when it seems they manage expansive teams I guess
Would you ever do a super ultra comprehensive video for League Games and such? I've been getting REALLY into watching leagues (thanks Boneheads!) But I'm getting lost on some of the rules not mentioned here
Absolutely! Will look into doing a follow-up video to this with more advanced rules and how league play works

The creator should do Son Of Anarchy
The first 15 minutes of this makes it sound like this game is very random compared to let's say something like kill team
BRING BACK

A boardgame plays like a boardgame huh.
Sounds even more complicated and unfun than regular football.
Great video, too many rules for my simple mind
Gross. Why do sports always have to find their way into everything good and absolutely ruin it.
Haha, they are insidious!
