- Microsoft has big plans for Blizzard. From doubling down on their big franchises, to creating a small internal team focused on 'AA' level projects. More and better Blizzard games, that's the plan anyway.
In theory: Could be really cool.
In reality: 10 new shitty mobile games.
To be fair, warcraft rumble isn't a half bad tower defense game.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I get that people don't want to let go of their favourite fantasyworld that Warcraft/Diablo etc. is, but you gotta realise that Blizzard is not the same people anymore, who brought us those worlds. There are so many other great studios you can put your faith into, it doesn't have to be and shouldn't be 'Blizzard' anymore. The company's name alone is nothing than a mask of nostalgia anymore.

Blizzards last chance was in 2016. Their response was to "misstreat" their empolyees and 1 of them even killing themselves on a work trip because their nudes got send around the office.
Making Blizzard "more prolific" is not their last chance. It's the final nail in their coffin.
It's not like they didn't have skunkworks projects in the universes of their games - vast majority of them didn't go anywhere and got axed. MS just wants to cheapen their brand by releasing fodder games. They tried to do the same exact thing with Bungie, making them slave out on Halo until they drop dead.
The fact that Microsoft is even the owner says enough. It means the company is either already dead and they simply want their IP's, or that they will be dead soon after by the malpractices of Microsoft.
Blizzard's peak years were from 94 - 04 and that's a feeling I just can't shake.
They don't need more games. They need the games that they do make to actually be good.
Force is really missing the big picture. WoW has had 10 expansions and maintains a dozen live service games. SC, Diablo, Warcraft RTS never had the content drops current Blizzard games have.

New expansions are just something built on the top of existing game. Also, Blizzard is well known for their content drought in games. So it's not like they were super hard working and consistent when it comes to that anyway...

War2, D2, War3 had 1 expansion and zero seasonal content.
Today we have SC2,SC2:LOTV, D3,D3RoS, D4, HotS, HS, OW, half a dozen WoW expansions plus content patches.

The fact that there are no single player games to explore the warcraft lore, there is no Arcane style series yet and the destruction of Overwatch speaks volumes for what Blizzard is nowadays
Yea blizzard only cares about games they can incorporate microtransactions in. I would love to see a souls-like diablo game, or a witcher-esqe warcraft game. But how can they fill those with micro transactions... Until i see blizzard put out a game without microtransactions i will never touch their games again, and no "cometic only" shop. Literally a game WITH NONE OF THAT. I mean they should be looking at Elden Ring, as insperation and thinking, maybe just maybe you can still profit off of a great singleplayer game with no micro bull shit.

Blizzard really does have potential to make fantastic game using their current IP's but they wont take risks and wont make anything that doesn't have micro transactions anymore. Hopefully the Microsoft acquisition can help them push the boundaries again beyond "playing it safe" Doing smaller project's like he was talking is the perfect way to test the waters and find a new hit. Personally I've always wanted a single player warcraft/diablo game like darksouls/witcher but its just not really something blizzard does since they can fill it with microtransactions. Hopefully we do get something new and interesting. in the mean time i will continue to boycott blizzard until they can show they actually want us players playing their game and not just our wallets.
It's not because you're an adult. It's that AAA is risk averse and woke whereas AA cannot afford a DEI department and cultural initiatives which replace their competent workforce with blue haired communication degree holders with a minor in game design.

In fact, a lot of the time, having a strong creative vision and inclusion of politics is going to make a project much more risky, because you risk alienating a portion of the potential player base.
You could choose to be open-minded to new experiences and perspectives as provided by the games you play because that's one of the biggest strengths of video games, but you rather have everything to be exactly the same and then get angry that the games aren't changing enough. Hypocrisy much?

I don't support or play blizzard games anymore but hopefully Microsoft can get them out of this rut and get them focused on making great games and not how to get money from players. It's also that adoration that made me so bitter when they failed D3 and most of D4. Their IPs have potential, but it is wasted due to corporate greed and management. Being bought by Microsoft isn't exactly confident boosting when they decided to let Tango go despite Hi-Fi Rush getting so much praise, and immediately they (one of the head guys from MIcrosoft) said they need more games like it. I really wanted a game like the cancelled Starcraft: Ghost. Blizz should do a single-player, story driven game for once. Imagine a game where you play as Zeratul in 3rd person, there is rpg elements and you play a part of the story of Starcraft.
Blizzard is only interested in games that will continuously give them money. I don't think there will every be a single player game from Blizzard again. Too greedy.
Same, Starcraft is such a big universe they can work with as well. They expand the korpulu sector and explore new regions of space. While also checking on earth and her current empire. Maybe even introduce another faction further a field, as im sure they built more of those ships just in case the first three failed.

I wanted to give Blizzard a last chance and I started playing HC Classic after watching one of your videos!
It was my first time playing in about 15 years. I paid for a month's subscription and excitedly started playing, and quickly realized I wasn't able to trade, mail or use the Auction House on any of my HC characters, which was odd because none of them were "Self Found". I tried a few hotfixes but nothing worked.
Turns out, it is not a bug but very much made on purpose to "avoid bots". Every new WoW or returning players after 2017 will pay the full price, expecting to be able to play the full game, only to find out after the fact that they cannot interact with the whole economic side of the game for a whole "30 day period".
So much for giving blizz a last chance!

D3 reaper of souls was my last Diablo game. i kinda wanted to try necromancer but i had already quit D3 so no point buying an expansion for 1 class.

Blizzard free since 2020 (when my old laptop broke) and yeah feel the same way. I even "left" the /r/diablo subreddit one of the subs I was most active on. And that has felt good.

To be fair, Blizzard games used to have 1 expansion (Beyond the Dark Portal, Lord of Destruction, Brood War, The Frozen Throne, I'm not going to count third party expansions like Retribution or Hellfire), while WoW has is into its 10th expansion.
That doesn't mean I don't agree with Blizzard not being anymore the flawless developer it used to be.

-Starcraft Terran city builder like Frostpunk
-Starcraft Terran game much copy of Helldivers.
-Diablo games like Skyrim and the Witcher
-Warcraft game set during the times of the early Empire of Arathor that plays like Ryze: Son of Rome, and we get to interact with the blood elves and go to war against the Troll Empire.
-Warcraft game like Dishonored, where we play as a Rogue undead that regains his will when Illidan weakens the Lich King, joins Sylvanas and fights the Dreadlords and rule of Kel-thuzad or something along those lines.
-the revival of Heroes of the Storm by creation of new heroes, maps, vids, comics and other forms of lore.

The reason they don't release new games as much is because they literally don't have to. All the games before WoW were essentially offline compatible whereas everything after WoW was all online (aside from remakes/remasters). If you can just add stuff to a game, the only point of making a new game is to either free devs from technical restraints or change setting. Just look at how old GTA5 is and GTA6 probably won't be out until 2026 if we're lucky. I'm not defending it but that's just how most big companies work.

Playing Star Craft 2 is heartbreaking. You know Blizzard could never make something like it again.

I'm honestly just baffled why there hasn't been an optional, hi-def graphics upgrade of WoW, similar to what EQ2 did..It didn't change any mechanics AFAIK, but made it look far better.
They can honestly remake anything and it'll work. By remake, I mean show the same story that we know, through different eyes, in a different gameplay. Like imagine if we got a Warcraft 3, the RPG, that plays like an old school FF game, focusing on seeing the story through the eyes of everyone in little well-crafted but simple chapters. You're finishing a plot point, then it switches to the first section with Thrall at the founding of Durotar, but not without an intro in his time as a slave to Blackmoore.
Here's the problem: These smaller games need soul. Blizzard has been struggling with that part of game development.
I miss the single-player games Blizzard used to make, online was an option but not mandatory. I was there for their campaigns.

Blizzard has more than enough employees to release games often. The issue is that they no longer have a focused vision and it has been revealed (by Blizzard) that a lot of development is done in a "design by committee" style of work. So they waste time with too many cooks in the kitchen and not enough focus and passion. It's a bureaucratic nightmare that fills algorithmic checkboxes.
Rumble is actually pretty solid
every expansion is technically another game's worth of content, they should be included.
Small devs without a shite load of people to answer to develop KILLER games much faster. Instead of having "focus" meetings eight times a week, and sections working without interacting with each other, small devs don't have these bureaucratic log jams.

Their last chance was like 5+ years ago already. I put 10k hours into WOW, most of that before 2010. For the past decade whenever I've had the thought of "going back" it only takes seconds for me to then go "It's not WOW anymore, it's a P2W cesspit" and I move on with my day. When they came out with the level boost for TBC classic I even stopped reading news from Blizzard because it was just making me angry.

Nah, bruh, last chance ( at least for me) was almost a decade ago. I emailed them to delete my account, take away anything I bought, and never to contact me again. Never touching anything with the Blizzard logo ever again.
A warcraft survival game does seem like a good fit, but what I've been waiting 20 years for is a warcraft single player RPG. How have they not done it yet with all the money that games like Skyrim and the Witcher 3 printed?
not trying to give blizzard a pass here but i dont know if the whole "6 games over 20 years" argument really holds water, every world of warcraft expansion is basically a whole games worth of development, and there have been 10 expansions for the world of warcraft over that time, as well as a diablo 3 expansion, and 2 starcraft 2 expansions

There is no Blizzard, that studio was done years ago.
Blackthorne could easily be Blizzard’s Doomguy, and the game would rake in cash hand over fist.
