Well today we are playing through "Super Mario 64: The Missing Stars" made by Frauber and is supposedly the first SM64 hack ever made!

My god, I remember when this came out. Super iconic in the SM64 machinima community. The most unique thing until Star Road.

@@tarekmoneimsaid Yep, that whole thing started with the "Super Mario 64 Bloopers" videos circa 2007/2008. And then all of a sudden there were some videos that weren't set in Peach's Castle or any of the courses from the main game, and it was from this instead.
Did you know this hack came out in 2009? But jokes aside, this was actually pretty amazing for being so early in the romhacking community!

Wow, I was expecting more of a proof-of-concept kind of hack. That was quite amazing. The volcano level looked legitimately difficult without being hot garbage or trolly. I think the bad textures in Course 13 were more of an intentional gimmick, or maybe that was some of the earliest work on the hack and he later figured out how to do the textures correctly; rather than start over or throw that work away, he used the odd aesthetic and janky elements as a gimmick later in the game.
Actually this is the 2nd Rom hack ever made the first one was made a year earlier called Super Mario 128 but that one was just the original map and courses just way harder while this one is the first major hack

It is definitely a first full hack.. like every area had a red coin star lol
It is surprisingly better than what you would think a "first full hack" would be... like.. it isn't bad but also is still exactly what you would expect..
I like how it does what even some modern hacks don't do, use the whole "your selected star alters the layout" thing that is rarely used in the base 64.. like how many stars are obtainable "out of order" in the original game? And how many hacks just you traverse the same level over and over and don't typically actually make the choice of star matter
The day/night cycle is also unique.. but also tiny bit cumbersome with not easily telegraphing when some stuff is obtainable
And having a custom Fireball powerup is pretty cool

I didn't know this hack came out in 2009 until Amanda told us.

I have to comment on your physics. The only way that you will lose distance by aiming too high as if you aim more than 45 degrees. That's assuming a constant acceleration due to gravity like it practically works in physics.

There’s special cartages out there nowadays that read sd cards of rom files. Everdrive is the most popular and there’s one for most systems.

Koopa the quick is fed up with Mario when he cheated under his nose after he watched a youtube video when Mario used a cheat code when Koopa the quick was unaware so he decided to cheat in this rom hack by eating 100 rare candies and speed and stamina boosting items so he could teach Mario a lesson when he only wanted a fair contest until he realized that Mario was a cheater all along
