In the french foreign legion I was issued a poncho, that with two was to make a tent, they weighed about 3 kilos each, but you could make a foot bridge out of them lol.
@@hampshireoutdoorsandsurviv9340 we were taught how to use the ponchos for stretchers, with ropes for river crossings and to make bridges, even equipment transfers as we got everything over a river, but I suppose french guyana is not a usual playground. Edit, ponchos are awesome.
Those are palaces compared to our old 58 pattern poncho. When I was issued the newer shelter sheet, it was massive in comparison. It's a pity they binned the poppers though. Now? I use one of those massive DD XL tarps for overnighting, no slumming it in a shell scrape for this old codger. Not nowadays anyway. I still carry a 58 or a DD 3x3 for sudden downpours on a day bimble. Thanks for the video.
I cam snapped my dpm tarp I use with a poncho liner attached great as a swag roll and underquilt .if I had to choose though the US, one would be my first option, which cuts out more light, great review brother ,enjoyed this one. Lee
Grate video buddy I have the mpt myself love it I also have one from decathlon I don't think a tarp setup can be beat for that 360 outlook so versatile thanks for sharing regards lawrence
Cheers Mick, really interesting to watch mate. I knew nothing about military tarps, and I certainly know a lot more about them now. I did like the pattern of USMC tarp best, although all three look to be great pieces of kit 👍😀🫡
Nice comparison Micky, For me I look for as many tie outs as possible, that gives me flexibility. Then it’s down to looks. I’ve never owned a Camo tarp and always had white, green and brown, brown being my favourite. All the best fella Johnny 👍
its all about what suits you find what you like and perfect your method of use any kit is of no use if you cant use it my dd is brown i also have a couple of green tarps too
I can imagine the usmc tarp is good. I have a two man usmc military tent ,it’s absolutely bombproof, also have a couple of of Australian military tarps Which are tough as old boots ,and can also be joined together. I think my favourite tarp is the defender by AQUA QEST it’s almost bulletproof . really enjoyed the video as usual. Glad you’re back walking ,take care.
cheers mate i love exporing and playing with new kit its always interesting too try new things and share the info with others have a great weekend brother
Nice video Micky. The bungees come with the tarp. Not sure, but I've heard that the tarp is sized to go over the "standard" USMC fighting position. Aka fox hole. One of many uses. Lol another advantage is that the Marpat tarp offers some shade and light blocking from underneath. See you guys at the Social, atb John
Awesome tarp trials. I can only compare 1980 East German army tent and 1940's USA army pup tent, the best and worst USA look after their soldiers I've found. 👍
Great review mate, i love my MTP issue basha. MTP basha is made from a rip stop polyester and the kater version of DPM are made from the same stuff How do i get comms with you ouside of this? You on facebook or insta?

Never tried the US one, looks interesting. Would you say it would preform well in very hot climates? It looks like it can be used as a sun shade
using it this week for a overnighter will see how it performs
Awesome tarp trials. I can only compare 1980 East German army tent and 1940's USA army pup tent, the best and worst USA look after their soldiers I've found. 👍
your very right its not the biggest tarp but it works for what it was designed for and it seems to do it well cheers for the comment bro
