what i love about your recipe is that its perfect for starting. and allows people, like me, to add other ingredients that i like with my food. Like Garlic, and onion...and not worry about messing up a "specific recipe". I'll be making this for dinner tomorrow night
My granny cooked navy beans with bacon almost every week. She soaked them and put them in a pot with water and bacon just like you did, but she didn’t add any salt. It was my favorite supper when I was a child, and I still enjoy it today.
Thank you for teaching me. My mom passed when I was 13. I’m 25 now and I’ve been wanting to recreate her white beans. I made them and they tasted just like hers. ❤️
Hi Claire! I'm so glad my video helped you to create white beans that taste like your moms. I'm sorry that she passed. If there's anything else you'd like for me to help out with, please let me know. Thank you for watching! 😊
Finally a video that cooked these without all the vegetables and spices in them ! I grew up on beans and to me the simple beans and ham hock is all you need 😉

I learned something new from u, the floating beans r the bad ones, I do pick out bad beans but never knew if beans float after water u missed a few of the bad beans. Thank you for that tip that info
That looks so delicious, i can smell it from here! Thank you for posting the simple method. This is how i recall my grandfather making white beans with a bit of salted pork. I'm thinking that was about 50+ years ago! Love the your accent too, y'all.
Thanks for the help, One thing you might try, I dump my beans on a bake sheet about a pound at a time and can see the bad ones better because they are just one bean deep. Keep cooking
This is my favorite bean dish. The only thing I did different is put about a half of a chopped onion in with the bacon. And I sauteed the bacon for a bit before adding the beans. Thank you for posting. PS: Oh I am going to include some fresh baked biscuits when I serve them up. They are cooking right now so I haven't tried them yet.
I just made some white bean soup for the first time. It’s simmering now. I had two round ham steaks that I diced up. I put the fatty piece and the bone in as whole large chunks to add flavor and I’ll take them out after. I diced the rest of the meat small. Added s&P a tiny one inch sprig of rosemary a sprinkling of thyme two small bay leaves a large clove of garlic one onion four small carrots and a few stalks of celery all food processed into tiny diced size. Some garlic powder and it tastes really good just from sampling the broth. Thank you for your guidance.

I'm from Louisiana and when I was a young girl I went to a friend's house. And her mama made white beans for lunch. I don't know what she did to them beans but they had a buttery flavor and she said all she added was bacon. I have tried cooking white beans after that and mine never had that buttery taste like hers. Do your beans come out with a buttery flavor.
Hi Laura, The trick is to not add a lot of water while they’re cooking. Adding the bacon alone with salt and pepper gives the beans an amazing flavor. I don’t add butter to mine, but you can definitely try that along with the bacon to see if you can simulate the taste you remember. Also, it could be the type of bacon you are using as well. I only use Oscar Myer. Just use what you can cause bacon is so expensive now. I hope they turn out great for you! Thank you for watching my friend! 😊
