  • Last night, the Michigan Wolverines beat Washington to win their first National Championship since 1997. Would #Texas have beaten Michigan if they were got past Washington in the Sugar Bowl last week? Would the #Longhorns have been able to slow down Michigan's run game? How did you feel watching that game last night? The Horns Up: Talkin' Texas podcast ponders how a Texas-Michigan title game would've ended up.

    You gotta realize penix didn’t have an “off” night. Michigans D line was a factor and the different disguises and looks Jesse minter gives forces him to be confused and off his throws. We didn’t commit everything to penix but instead depended on our d line and stayed sharp and covered in the secondary. (that’s why penix wasn’t sacked many times) It’s the Michigan defense and defensive looks that had penix missing throws and uncomfortable.

  • @DeshCanter
    @DeshCanter 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    4months later this pops up on my feed.
    Would Texas have beaten us?
    No.
    Michigan had to contend with Washington’s ability to throw the ball quickly and accurately. Your passing game isn’t what Washington’s was. Michigan, therefore, wouldn’t have to drift so many defensive resources back to defend the pass against the Longhorns. Therefore, no, your run game wouldn’t have fared any better. And Ewers would have been wearing defenders all day just like Penix was.
    Offensively, Michigan ran on everyone, including the best run defenses in college football. We would have run on you too. But we don’t just line up and telegraph our schemes. We create mismatches and McCarthy would have been hell in an RPO scheme.
    The fact is Michigan played conservatively offensively against Washington because our defense allowed us to.

      Not tough to say Michigan was by far the best and most complete team in college this year. Ask yourself why every team Michigan plays doesn't have a "good game"? It's because Michigan's defense takes them out of their game and confuses the shit out of them. This causes uncertainty, hesitation in read progression and leads to bad throws.

    No disrespect, but if Michigan D Line was scaring Alabama's center (yes, I know, some of them were completely on him) the rest of that interior line got ran over by the Maize and Blue. It would've been pick city for Mich. Competitive? Sure. Absolutely even. But there's not much you can do when there's absolutely nowhere to go when your QB/RB/WR has a whole quarter of a second before they're about to get ate. And yes, Bama had some good range plays on us, but it was immediately buttoned up. Michigans offense would've probably scored much lower against yall, but it would've been round abouts the same.

    Short answer: No. I think Texas may have been a better match up against Michigan (possibly) -- Washington had an outstanding season/team for them because they basically rose to like an average version of Ohio State, which made them the exact kind of target for this Michigan team. OSU generally has an imposing o-line and a stout running game that they use to soften you up** for back-breaking deep balls to elite receivers. Michigan got pressure on penix, fucked with his timing, with four and kept everything in front of them. Michigan's defense was designed to guard precisely against the one big tool that Washington absolutely needed to win.
    ** unless of course they have a zeke elliot or dobbins ....then they just run your ass over ...AND get back breaking deep plays.

    The team that last to OU and Wash could beat Michigan? Your defense is even worse than Wash. Run on Michigan? Who ran on them all year? Wash basically crushed you. A muffed punt, going for it on 4th instead of a FG and a stupid call with 50 sec left is the only reason it looked close.

    Don’t use “if, woulda, coulda, shoulda” do not analyze in that way. You make it happen in the game, without the “what ifs” after the game. “What ifs” are only acceptable when the referees make terrible calls that leads to a loss.

    That has been the biggest propaganda all season. The SEC plays the weakest schedules. They serve up more cupcakes that a 16-year-old's birthday party. Beating Penn St, Ohio, Alabama and Washington in the last weeks put to rest the thought of Michign having a weak schedule. Washington was clearly the better team against Texas - and they got bullied and shutdown by Michigan's D. Michigan had the BEST defense in college football this year. In fact, it was a historic D. PSU, Alabama and Washington were beat up. Texas would have been the same.

    Big difference The wolverineswas only blitzed a few times. The zone was confusing them and being able to rush only four and put pressure on them and having seven guys out there running around. You didn't have time to find the holes. That was the big difference. I am a huge Michigan wolverine fan I'm finally glad that they did something. But I will not sit here and say that they played a great game. Our offense was not very good at all. If Donovan doesn't break those two touchdown runs we may have not won this game. As a whole our defense is one of the best in NCAA seen in a long time. That's the only reason we won the national championship
