These mma meme channels, that curse was across like multiple sports (& i bet this vid was made with that drake curse being the main one)
There is another one: the Frank Mir curse. Quite interesting. Most of the fighters that beat Mir, went on to lose their next fight. Only three avoided this curse: Brock, Fedor and Cormier.

I don't think a curse should count if it doesn't affect you until like a year or 3 title defenses later because if that's the case then anything can be considered a curse because it will eventually happen. a curse should be something that happens pretty immediate

The EA curse used to exist in football (the one with the spherical ball) too with the FIFA cover stars getting severe injuries or a severe drop in form, although the curse was broken in 2017 and hasn't happened again since.
Well, it did come back for Hazard in 2019, and Mbappe (he was injured more often than usual) in 2020

The EA Sports curse is caused by regression to the mean. Okay, I don't know if it's "regression to the mean" in a strict sense but hear me out. You get to be on the cover of those games after putting together a long successful streak. We all know the longer a winning streak goes on the more likely it is to come to an end in the next fight or soon thereafter.

A winning streak doesn’t actually make it any more or less likely that you’ll loose your next fight, but having enough popularity to feature on the cover of the game means you’re probably older, your next opponent is probably a title contender and your own attention is split between training and your media obligations.

Instead of the EA Curse, you could have called it a ‘cover curse’ and extended it even further. In 2009, Forrest Griffin was the cover of Undisputed and lost his next fight to Anderson Silva. Brock was the cover athlete in 2010 and even though he beat Shane Carwin, he got dominated and nearly stopped first round, and lost his next two fights after. And, after Conor was announced for the UFC 2 cover, he lost to Nate Diaz before the game even came out.
Yeah, and DJ lost to Cejudo after being the cover for the champions edition or something (but I don’t remember how long after it was). Also, wasn’t Anderson on a cover for Undisputed before being KOed by Weidman?
@@ivanrpribeiro5725 The Weidman fight happened a year later. Anderson still had two fights that he won after being on the cover, Chael the second time and then Stephan Bonnar.
In hockey, some players don't shave during the playoffs. It represents the player's singular focus to win the cup, sacrificing everything else, even hygiene. So I can understand why fighters who take time to get a haircut lose their match.
