The main plates on crossmember are 3/16-1/4 thick.. so pretty beefy.. frame is thinner but not sure if I would slot those in case of future changes for some reason.
Having Problems with the Holley trans cross member too. Installed it with frame off but then one side was hanging lower than the other 1/4 inch. I'm at my wits end. I had to stop for the day, come watch videos and save it for another day. I can't find any instructions anywhere. thanks
So I’m not sure if anyone noticed but in the removal video that harbor freight trans jack was lowering on its own! I tried a doing a quick bleed per instructions but not sure if it worked. It went up and in pretty fast though. That jack does work pretty darn good for tilting in all directions. A lift would be good though :)
@@BillyFargon Ok thanks, was your engine mated to a 4L60E or a 4L80E? My LQ4 originally had a 4L60E and thats the flex plate I have (3 holes on it vs 6 mounting holes of the 4L80E. Wondering if there is a way to use the 3 hole plate on the 4L80E?
@BillyFargon i just bought a 72 Nova roller, it's an auto car so I was thinking 4L80 when I put the LS in it. My 69 Chevelle is a T56 Magnum. What made you change after all this work? Would you recommend a different auto? (If you didn't like the 4L80).
There was no issues with the 4l80e that I had in there.. it was just turning into a drag race car and that’s not the type of driving I wanted to do. I wanted a t56 from the beginning but that required lots of tunnel work. Then they came out with the TKX and would fit with no mods so I switched at that point. I just wanted a fun active street car and shift gears.
@BillyFargon oh ok, right on man. I hear you. I couldn't go with the TKO or TKX due to my power level. It took me a year to convince myself to cut my tunnel. I do not want to do that to this Nova and it's only going to make 500 to 600 so if you don't have to modify the tunnel for a 4L80e that's going to be the ticket. To bad a 6L80 won't fit, that would be the shiz.
Hi Billy, might be a commonly asked question but just to confirm the 4L80E will fit with no tunnel or firewall modifications? I just bought a 68 six cylinder car and trying to plan out LS swap. Your car looks great, good video thanks.
These are the ones I bought ACDelco GM Original Equipment 24203876 Automatic Transmission Input and Output Speed Sensor with Seal www.amazon.com/dp/B0013FTZUC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HC4X2JS0GWFGNCRQMZZ5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
You got the crossmember in, but won't you have a similar problem taking it back out and putting it back in....etc.? I'm sure this install was frustrating, but did you consider elongating some of the holes?
It’s painted with high temp “aluminum” paint. I tried cleaning and even took it to the machine shop to their parts cleaner. It came out ok, but nothing close to a factory look.
If I ever use that cross member first thing I would do is turn those mounting holes into slots. Thanks for the heads up.
Definitely an option. I didn’t know what it would do to the rigidity of the mount but it would probably be fine.
@@BillyFargon the clips look ok to slot. the x member doesn't appear to have much meat around the holes.

I would have elongated the holes. No way I would want to do that every time. Looking good!
It crossed my mind, I just wanted to keep it rigid with no chance of moving but it may have been fine. It does get easier each time 😂

I'm HERE!!!
Haha, phew!!
Hi Billy ... 4l80 Can put in 72 Nova witout cut the floor?
Yep 👍
You should do a video with the type of shifter you used
I have one, it’s there. It’s a little ways back called “shifter install” :)
Billy let the real mechanic speak 🗣️ 🤔
Oregon resident? seen the plates on the wall plus you're working with a coat on LOL
Haha yep, and now this week sweating my noogs off!
Sponsored by to you by Harbor Freight :)) HaHa Love it!!

Ah you went with a Yank?? WOW!!
Certain things I don’t mind doing over.. pulling trans to change converter is not one of them! 😂
I feel you with that crossmember, but it looks so sexy under there :)
It does look good! Worth the pain.. getting easier each time though!
Do u have a part number for the cross member im putting a 4l70 in my Nova
If you go to holleys website, look at the ls swap systems and pick on Nova. Should be pretty easy to find. I don’t have part number off hand
@@BillyFargon I found it just in case somebody else needs it it's a 12627hkr
Hi, installing a 4l80E and a 6.0 LQ4 in my 71 Nova too. What did you use for a flex plate? Item number would be great. Thanks, Jeff
I just used the stock flex plate that came on the engine… I dont have a part number

That crossmember is a pain, shame on you Holley but otherwise it sure looks good under there..... Well done one again.
I guess silver lining in it all is that it gets easier every time 😂
So what trans is in the car now? This or the manual?
It started with the auto then went to manual.

With Holley mounts it will fit :)

This was mentioned in the other comments a few times. I’m thinking I won’t be taking this out for a good while!!
did you paint the new case or is that from cleaning with something? looks so clean.

@@BillyFargon TY, I'm doing a TH400 install. Hope to do the OD trans eventually. All built up but it looks dirty like your old one.
Good thing is if you don’t want to paint it you can’t really see it anyway :)
Did you have to do any fabrication inside of your car to fit the 4l80in it?
No, with the Holley crossmember and engine mounts it fit perfect with no mods :)
What headers are you running ?
Hooker blackheart swap headers
@@BillyFargon thank you !
