I am using the openspot3 with android, but followed you step by step and finally figured out how to really make my openspot3 truly portable....thank you for your video...73 Dennis K1ATM
Looks like Yaesu did it. You can update you firmware on the FT2D and with the added patch cable use your radio as a wiresX node. I look forward to another great video on this topic
They did. But I think they fell short. Although you can use the same FT2 as a speaker/mic you still have to sacrifice the radio to the wiresX setup and using this method, You can't create a room. Boo!!
@@K6UDA Well I'm glad you looked into this. I thought it might be a less expensive alternative way to access the c4fm digital rooms for someone not wanting to invest into a openspot
This is great stuff. I am trying to decide between the rugged / commander hotspots from hamtadio1 or the openspot2. I am a relatively new ham (took my tech and general license exams the same day about 2 years ago...got a keenwood hand held to do uhf/vhf/D-Star). When connected to your phone wifi, can you access the settings html page from the phone to change modes (say from D-Star to DMR for example). Thanks for all the great content. 73s de Jorge
Great video. What’s the purpose of creating profiles. I just list the WiFi networks and phone hotspot in the network list and the OS2 connects automatically like you showed in the video.
You can create profiles to quickly change what the entire setup is. I can have one profile to use at home, one to use d-star from my phone, one to set DMR parameters for something other than my normal setup. The possibilities are endless.
Hi, thank you for your help. Question i did everything you said but when i unplug openspot2 do not kept the setup i have to reset for reconnect. All the setup, the profile, password, and everything are there but do not connect automatically. Thank you for your help.
Very confused, you stopped and said in the beginning, on second thought Don't connect right now but you Never circle back around and show when to connect and put your HotSpot password in and configure???? please help
41300 is our skywarn group ALERT-K4NWS bridged to DMR 31013. I was surprised to see you key up... I was like I know that call! No worries about answering, completely understand. 73, DE KV4S
I know you tend to use Brandmiester Network(BM) as I do, but the DMR Plus network is gaining a little momentum I suggest you do one on it as well. It seems to do things differently than BM. Also explain to the assembled minions Dynamic and static talk groups...it seems to confuse people for some reason. 73 and cya Next Year VK6MMB!!
Will you please do a video on the new openspot 2 that will let you use the wires-x key on the ft-2dr? That new openspot 2 will be out in January 2019. KE7OMU Terry Graham
Its an update for the osp2. the release in January is a beta, I'll play with it but I'm not sure I'll do a workshop video on it until its stable. I'm really looking forward to the update.
Enjoyed the video. Another way to access the openSPOT2 is to type in sharkrf.link then enter your UID number. That number is located on the bottom of the openspot2, also on the box, and can be found on the status page, the info panel and listed and ID number. Enter this number and it will connect to the openspot2. Note at the bottom of the page will wil be able to create a link on the phone desktop . Now when you use the device, ie your phone you can connect directly to the openspot. You can also link other openspot2's this way to the same desktop link. It does not work with the openspot 1.
I reworked my network here at the house adding some VLANS now I can't get my Openspot2 to go. I can't even get to the Web Browser. Need a video to help me get to the Web Browser.
Greetings. A bit off topic. However, I'm looking for a tutorial for TH-D74 and how to use it with Echolink. Is there a specific video or easy instructions somewhere?? Thanks!!
I've only used echo link from my iPhone or on our local repeater from an incoming link. I think you'd need to use DTMF codes to control it like any other analog radio. But then again, maybe I'm wrong. I'll look into that.
Thanks I aced it. Almost passed my General without studying. Missed by two questions. I am retired since 2002. 23 years and got hurt on job. I also ride and a member of Blue Knights. Enjoy your videos. Now to get a radio and be ready when FCC reopens after wall is built.
I've watched this several times and have mine setup exactly like this but it will never find my iPhone once I get out of range of my home network. I can keep the hotspot page open for 30 minutes and it never finds it once my home network disconnects. Come back home from work and it connects right back up to the home network. If I leave the home network out of the OS2 it connects up to the iphone immediately so it's just a switching problem between the networks.
Once you get out of range of your home network, try powering down your OSP2. then open the hotspot page on the iPhone power up the OSP2 and you should be in business.
I paid $218 for my open spot 4 a week ago and right now I would take $100 for it. I cant get it to do anything except light up and no matter what I do it keeps saying it is trying to connect garble garble and shows on the computer not connected. I am at the point of stomping it.....
I have a Openspot one and a Android......I shall investigate and report back me lord!!! btw was my 55th Birthday yesterday.🎁🎁🎁.. I promised I didn't sing...(I cant sing I sound like a Gorilla being drowned when I do). Remember I live on the other side of the International Date line so yesterday to me is today for you.
From what I understand simply does not work for Android only I phone that really is bad Let me back up a bit, it will not switch automatically which is what we want In Android go to browser, type in SharkRf.link and MAYBE it will open up Use your computer to bring up app and create 2 profiles one for house and one for car or phone portable Then use SharkRf2.link to manually switch networks, and it takes a while hopefully they fix this down the road since most are going from iPhone to Android we will see , thanks Bob, I put hours in this stupid thing to figure this much out, ridiculous Bob just some ideas for your next video, love the open spot 2 it's great but not good for Android users yet, I use my iPad mini to switch networks from home to Android phone Wish it was automatic but not yet at least
First to view and like. Keep up the good work.
Always good to be first. Second place is just the first loser.
Absolutely! I am brand new to amateur radio. I will be retiring from the Army in a few years and wanted to find a great hobby to keep me busy.

Thanks Bob, an outstanding instructional vid. Cheers from VK3HMV Ballarat Australia.
Thanks.
Great info in plain language! Great job!
Thanks. Best video for setting up OS2 with IPhone. Worked great. Could you, or would you, do one for setting up a JumboSpot using Pi-star?
It would be great if you could put a link for the open spot-2 and or any other gear you recommend. Thanks for all your hard work!

Nice video Bob! I'd get one but my openSPOT1 is working just fine. :(
Can you explain how and what or when to set the "COPY Source and Destination" settings in the Configuration Profile settings screen?
I'll put it on the list. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks Bob
Thanks Bob a good video that clearly explains how this is done!
Can the openspot go mobile and connect directly to the phone using tethering while driving or do you need a mobile router??
Yep. Tether it it and go. Super easy.
Thanks for the stuff on the Open Spot.
What software do you use to put your Iphone on the screen?
I'm using OBS studio. Its a video production switching software.
