Good video Jason. Only thing I wish is I could use C4FM like I can with the Pi-star, using the Wiresx button to pull a list on the screen, instead of DTMF for rooms. I dont know all the room numbers yet :)
Yes I also have a couple of models of the original device. I wish they had kept making it, and added this one. Both have great features. Thanks for subscribing.
I'm still using the dvrptr v1 board at home and dual dv mega with the nice pice star image when i'm mobile. The new openspot doesn't have a external antenna connector , thats what i miss on that device iff i would buy it. There are some german hams that are experimenting with svxlink with mmdvm. That would be a great feature on Pi-Star image. Echolink clear wide audio and private rooms. On the dvrprt boards it should work, but on the dv mega's im not sure.
Thanks. How does the Auto Cal on DMR feature work? I tried it and got really high frequency offsets like 200 hz and after saving the settings the radio couldn't talk to the modem and I had to set the frequency offset back to zero.
Any advice appreciated. I have the OpenSpot2 and trying to transcode from DMR to XLX using a DMR Radio. I click DMR in the Quick Set Up then click the sub menu tab for DMR plus/MARC/TGIF/XLX. When I go to the server tab drop-down there are zero XLX offerings to select? What am I doing wrong?
I have never done what you are trying, but... XLX is not a mode, so you can't transcode to it. XLX is a connection type. So it depends on what you are trying to connect to.
@@HamRadio2 Thanks for replying. I used the wrong terminology, but I'm trying to use a DMR radio to connect to XLX910 via the OpenSpot2. It seems like it should be possible but I just can't get the XLX drop-down in the server tab unless I chose D-Star for a module or profile on the OpenSpot2. But then you need a D-Star radio. I'm able to do this on the "cheap and dirty" pi-star, but not the pricey OpenSpot2. Go figure!
@@whirledpeas5644 If I understand what you are saying, then this shouldn't be possible with a Pi-star. If you need to transcode DMR to DSTAR and connect to XLX910, which I assume is a DSTAR reflector, you would need a hotspot that transcodes DMR to DSTAR, which only the Openspot 4 does. The older version 2 doesn't do this.
@@HamRadio2 Hi. I also have the OpenSpot2, but now I'm running a rpi 3B with the WPSD OS instead of the traditional pi-star OS. I am able to connect to the XLX rooms and in particular XLX910 MODULE D, TS2. I put TG6 in my cps and I am able to connect to XLX910. I was trying to do the same with the OpenSpot2 but you are saying it's not possible. I know the OpenSpot4 can do that. It just seems like the OpenSpot2 should be able to do it as well. I've had the OpenSpot2 for several years and I recall, back then, seeing the list of all of the XLX rooms in the drop-down. I did an update recently and perhaps they got rid of that so it would encourage people to buy the OpenSpot4. Thanks
I never really sold the same stuff as HRO (I assume that is who you mean) but I decided to focus on this TH-cam series instead because I like it better and it is unique. There isn't much money in the electronics game anyway with the small margins
I saw the other video about you might be or stop selling stuff. you always beet the others in your price for products. i would think most of the people would like to buy from you on some of these product's because of the price you offered. i know i sent a bunch of my friends to your site for the first openspot. Got my Openspot2 yesterday and it was up and running in 10 minutes. Like it a lot!
The plug with the angled prongs is(at 4:00mins) is a New Zealand/Australian adaptor. The first second and fourth plugs are overseas adaptors :)
Got mine today - first hotspot for me. Was quite easy to set up.
Awesome! Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching
Thanks Jason, I've been waiting for this hotspot to be released.. Good review,
Excellent vid, as usual, Jason!
Thanks for watching

HamRadioConcepts main reason why, I won’t consider another openSPOT again. So spoiled with Pi-Star ability to use the Wires-X button.
I've not used this for WIRESx, so I'll have to test what you are talking about
Gilberto A. Rivera I would love to know how to set this up.
Good video...subbed, I have the original shark rf open spot its a superb piece of kit IMO.

I'm getting mine delivered today. The 3 prong plug is for UK .
Good Video I just got a 51plus 2 and will be using dstar Thanks for the imformation
Keep up the good work Jason DE M6GYT Manchester UK

Good video. Supposed to get mine tomorrow. Looking forward to trying it out on nxdn

So, DMR radio to Openspot to Network to Openspot to DMR radio...right?
That's one option, yes.
Jason I can’t tell which portable you used in this video. Nice video!
That was the Retevis RT82
First plug you pullout off the box was for Europe without UK, the second was look like for China and the 3. was for UK.
The first style is what I used in Spain and Italy this last July
Any advice appreciated.

look great will it work with my Iphone 6 in the car
You can use your iPhone as a hotspot for it to connect to, yes
anything and everything that is new to amateur radio.. can you make a review of the new kenwood 890 and the coming ft101.
I'd love to. The problem is that I can't afford to buy those rigs and I haven't found anyone to let me borrow one for a review.
Do Hotspots or this Openspot2 affect the qualiity of the audio?
Not if setup correctly
Have you tried the blue dv hotspots?
Yes I have a video about the original one, and they're sending me an updated model to review
I have one from little over year ago. Was super easy to use. Only down side was had to run app on phone or computer
I must just be really stupid been fooling with this for 2 hours now dosen't work new open spot2
just keeps saying trying to connect network
Hey jason the 192.168.99.1 is when the automatic open doesn't work when you connect via wifi with a smart device or a pc
That makes more sense but it didn't read that way in the instructions
Don't waste your money. Buy like 4 jumbo spots fot the price of one of these.
The Jumbospot is a copy of a copy. Get a Zumspot or something that isn't a total ripoff
@@HamRadio2 Sorry did mean to hurt your $$$ business at Grapvine Radio...
You didn't. I've never sold either of these hotspots and I announced a couple of months ago that I was shutting down GAR.
@@HamRadio2 Now that's a shame, It's hard to compete with Ham Radio One. You're one of the last ones standing.

Does it work with Quadnet?
Quadnet uses XLX reflectors and has a Brandneister link so yes, it does both of those

That's for the positive words
openSPOT5 will be free but ad-supported
I just got the Shark open spot 2. I’m not very computer savvy still trying to figure it out. KC9ZLB. Any help would be appreciated.
