I used to be sure to wake up in time to listen to this at 06h00 on RBC every morning. Never learnt the words just loved the cadence and unity of the singing.
To this day, the RAR remains one of the most professional and disciplined African fighting forces in history. After the Zimbabwe guerillas occupied the country and dissolved the RAR, many black Rhodesian veterans were persecuted or killed in the Gukurahundi genocide. We will never forget the sacrifices they made for Rhodesia in the fight against communism. Pamwe Chete!
As an ex policeman with a group of police reservists around me I was very thankful for the RAR who swept in behind us after we were pinned down by enemy fire as we approached a kraal one day. Many thanks guys, gone but not forgotten.
Rhodesia can only blame itself for choosing to stay racist AND backward. They could have chosen another way. Blaming communism is lazy. Take accountability
A simple song based on the R.A.R.'s brilliant record from the Malayan conflict through to the Rhodesian War in the 70's, but very powerful in the message and spirit conveyed, particularly the "A capella" version... Gives me the goosebumps! Fine soldiers that do indeed have a place in History.
Malayan emergency reminds me of The King's African Rifles (KAR) which was a multi-batalion regiment made up of East Africans, they were equivalent to Rhodesian African Rifles (RAR)
