  • I ran over a tree root and my engine died. Then when I turned the key, I heard nothing. No ignition activity whatsoever. Here's how I fixed it.

    THANK YOU,,,,this did it. Searched youtube and google for a bit, couldn't find anything until your video. I figured it was a safety switch or fuse, but just couldn't find it, again, until I found your video.

    Every once in a while my deck won’t engage I don’t know if there’s a stick in there or a rock or something maybe but you about got to man handle it sometimes to get it to engage.

      There should be instructions in the manual that came with the mower. If you don't have them, here is a digital version of the page which shows how the mulch cover is installed => www.manualslib.com/manual/1256592/Troy-Bilt-Tb30r.html?page=13#manual

    no,no, not the wires, push the switch in and tape it shut, or push it in and drill a little hole and stick a piece of wire in the hole you just drilled and it will remain in.

    Thank you for saving my sanity! I was mowing and the engine suddenly hesitated and quit. Wouldn't crank at all. I wondered about a safety switch but couldn't figure what it might be. I know this video is 5 years old but just in case you still read comments, THANK YOU so much for posting this!! My issue happened when I swapped the side discharge cover for the mulching cover. After watching your video I adjusted the cover to make sure it hit the plunger and - yep! Started right up. It’s really not a tight fit and I may try a small block of wood as others have. Thank you again!!! I appreciate you taking the time to post this.

  • @1RAYGC
    @1RAYGC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The complicated part of this mower is the 5 safety interlock switches, SEAT, PTO, REVERSE, BRAKE, and DISCHARGE COVER. The BRAKE and
    the PTO can prevent the mower from cranking, the SEAT, REVERSE, and DISCHARGE COVER will kill the mower ignition. If the mower won't crank
    it's probably because the brake isn't depressed, the blade is engaged, or one these 2 switches in not engaged or bad. If it cranks but won't
    start it's probably because, the discharge cover is displaced, your not on the seat, or one of these 2 switches is bad or not engaged. If you put the
    mower in reverse with the blade engaged the mower will shutoff. I have bypassed the reverse switch so I can mow in reverse and also the discharge cover switch because it's very unreliable and poorly designed.

    Brilliant. Couldn't start even after a new battery. I was perplexed. But then...I remembered that I tried to take off the deck guard to clean it. I accidentally disengated the kill switch by moving the plunger! I adjusted it and it started! I am so happy! Single woman figured it out and no repair service bill! Thank you so much for this! If nothing works. Replace the fuse in the harness connected to the battery. Bam. You’re welcome.

  • @johntomsky
    @johntomsky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is the first of many things that will need fixing. The next is the belt that drives the blade will start to make noise and break. Then the steering wheel will get very hard to turn, requiring cleaning and greasing all the steering linkage. If you can't do all these repairs yourself, be prepared to shell out a lot of money.

    Strange thing is when i engaged my mulch chute safety switch and then when i turned the key it made a screetching noise and the only way i could shut the noise off was to remove the negative cable from the battery and then if i touched the negative battery cable to the post the mower would turn over so i left the cable unhooked for a few days and then when i touched the cable to the battery it was ok so i hooked the cable back up to the battery and everything is fine.Don't know what the screething noise was.But now the safety switch does not work on the seat,i no longer have to be sitting on the seat for the mower to start.my mower is only 5 years old and i have not used it that much.

    So grateful for your video. Had to jumpstart my mower, made a few passes over my lawn, then decided to put the leaf bagger on. After that nothing - no turn over - zero. I assumed the battery was dead so I picked up a new one. Still nothing. Watched your video sure enough the bagger wasn't engaged to the kill switch. I actually had to put a small piece of wood there to engage it! You saved me a lot of time and money! Thank you!

    thank you! I figured that out when after storing it for over a year, I took it out of the shed and bought a new battery. Took off the cover and nothing, put the cover on and the engine cranks, but wont start. Any suggestions? I'm a female and getting so tired of trying to figure this out. Its been 2 weeks. Any suggestions will help. Thank you!!

    • @byersjaxon
      @byersjaxon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that your mower won't start. If it had fuel in the tank and was stored for over a year, it's possible that the fuel gummed up the carburetor. You may need to take it to a repair place to get the carburetor cleaned. I'm no expert, but I know this can happen when small engines are stored for a long time and have fuel in the line.

    • @eugenelaky1993

      Your carb needs to be cleaned.sondtimes you can just add sea foam. Let it sit and it will clean the carb.
      I
      When you let it sit for a long time add some fuel stabilizer

    Yup, common among 100s of thousands of MTD lawn tractors.
    Yardworks, Yardman, Columbia, Cub Cadet, Craftsman, Troy Bilt all come out of the assembly line in Ohio. My belt slipped off the first day. In 3 weeks since receiving it, it mowed once. I bought a brand new OEM MTD belt in anticipation of the worst case scenario.

    You saved me a trip to the shop for almost nothing, thanks. OSHA was the first to mess up our mowers and many other things, however fear of lawsuits are also a contributing factor to safety overkill. It isn't just mowers, it is most everything now. In Australia and Germany they still expect people to protect themselves and there are far fewer attorneys there, or guardrails for that matter.

      I'm amazed how many positive comments I've gotten for this video. I'm so happy it has been a help to my fellow Troybilt owners. I appreciate the comments.
