    Hi Peter, I just finished installing this upgrade steering kit. Wow, what a difference this kit makes in removing that excessive slop. Thanks for the great step by step video installation instructions and tips. Very appreciative for the time you take to share this well done video series of helpful information for DIY's, like me. Hello Peter, I've had my TB30 for 5 years now. I haven't had any steering issues, but I spray white lithium grease on the rack. It steers easy and the rack and pinion shouldn't be dry. By the way, the drainzit hose is something everyone should use

    • @petedymond
      @petedymond  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's good to hear. I know it's a very common issue. Here in N Florida we have very sandy soil so the sand sticks to the grease and makes a grit sludge.
      I have cleaned the rack with brake cleaner and reapplied lithium grease, but the first time it's used the sand sticks again.
      Thanks for your comment!

    Did the manufacturer have a recall? The gear rack tool should have had a shave station for longer life, other improvements helpful.

    If you compare the holes where the steering wheel shaft goes through you will see that the old one is completely out of line like an oval. This is part of the problem. I had the same problem in the same mower and the kit work perfectly fix mine with the same kid it worked perfectly.

    good video, thanks. I have a Cub Cadet CC30, essentially the same mower. Mine has a telescoping steering, there are 3-4 positions to choose from but the pin to hold the steering wheel at the desired height is no longer visible inside the steering column. Have you had experience with this and do you know from which side I should try and access the inside part from?

    Great video without a lot of fluff/filler. QUESTION? The kit in your link says "Do not use with TB 30". I have a TB 30, unlike the TB 30 R in the video. What kit will it be compatible with?

    • @petedymond
      @petedymond  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't see where it says do not use with TB 30? The part number on Troybilts website is the same for the TB30B / TB30R so it should work fine. I would order it and if it doesn't fit, return it

    the issue is the design of the units steering. it's complete garbage. the motor is good, blade is nice.. it's real comfy, but there are several kill switches built into it for some reason. the lower red plastic piece above the piece you took off has a kill switch in it for some reason. ive used my tb30r for a few years and the only significant design flaw that stands out is the entire steering solution. i was interested in the kit until i saw you turn the wheel after you installed it. same massive play in the steering, it's loose even after the upgrade kit.. a completely new steering solution is needed regrettably. good video.

      @@petedymond I ordered the kit which cost 16.95 usd and it arrived the next day, installed it in 15-20 minutes taking my time cleaning up the front end area. Kit is a direct replacement and bolts on without any modifications. No need to be concerned with lining up the steering wheel to indicator, as you can adjust the steering wheel post install precisely. My troy-bilt tb30r handles completely differently now. The stock steering cost me a fence post and 2 mower blades. The kit steering is a vast improvement and makes the mower feel like it's got Cadillac steering now.

    Based on years of off road motorcycle experience, putting "grease" on something exposed to a dirty environment causes the formation of a grinding compound, which will wear the parts faster than if they were left unlubricated. So when you replace this next time try leaving it dry & pls report back with another video.

    • @petedymond
      @petedymond  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just following the manufacturer installation instructions.
      They have grease points all over that are exposed to dirt, so I'm not sure what's worse, no lubrication or dirty grease?

      Mine went out after about 4 hours mowing in one season. Had a black plastic spacer that couldn’t take much strain. Wonder how long “nylon “ spacer will hold up. Of course it seems fine after you install new kit. Is not a matter of greasing so much as design. Possibly if heavily greased every season would reduce wear but this was not stressed in instructions. Mine showed no gear wear. Just too much slop in spacing. 10:29

    I have a TB30 in the shop for service. Steering is horrible. Loose it completely in a left turn. The kit you have, specifically states "does not work on TB30". I don't think there's much difference between the 30 and 30R. Just to be on the safe side, I went on the Troy Bilt site and found the 11064C kit. So we'll see when it comes in, what the difference is.

    • @petedymond
      @petedymond  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@petedymond Finally got the kit and installed it. The only difference I see, is the wear block in my kit was black. Go figure. I will say, the steering is significantly tighter with very little play in the steering wheel. Why the TB30 calls for the 11064C kit remains a mystery. My customer will be happy.
