I'm someone who doesn't play Pokemon to "catch them all" so the removal of mons in Sword and Shield didn't bother me at all and I enjoyed the hell out of it I personally rate the Let's Go games lower due to the inability to battle wild mons and forced exp share making an easy game easier for no real reason....but still enjoyed my playthrough

Why do the old pokemon games have so many revisionist reviews? A big point of reviewing a game is to see what the game offers on its own. When going back to an old game it's important to keep the context of the era in mind. Also what's with pokemon fans and their obsession about a post game. You beat a game and you're basically done with most games. A more grounded argument is a lack of content in the game itself.
I already said this in another comment about post games, but I’ll paraphrase it here: Pokémon games are not typical JRPGs in the sense that, unlike a Final Fantasy or Zelda game, your journey doesn’t end after the credits roll. It’s a competitive battler at the end of the day, so having reason to incentivize building a competitive team is paramount to a lot of players. Even more so, people just want more stuff to do after the main story When you have a good post-game with plenty of content (HGSS, Pt, B2W2, etc.), it shows the amount of care the developers put into the game; however a lackluster or nonexistent post-game (RBY, XY, SM, SwSh, etc.) is indicative of a rushed game that is likely not as well-made

Post game in pokemon has historically been the equivalent of anime filler. It's generally boring and inconsequential. The few times that it is not is when there is a legendary attached to the end of it. Speaking of competitive battling, why does post game matter to any of that. People actually interested in competitive battling don't care about post game. They battle online for their post game content. Meaningful post game content just slows down their ability to build their teams for competitive play. I don't know if you noticed but opinions of gen 2 game have recently flipped. A lot of people have since pointed out how bad the johto region is. It's level curve is awful. The region is short and lack luster. The gym leaders kind of suck. The new pokemon added are few, their designs are really hit or miss, and are often not even in johto. The kanto region is completely hollow. There isn't much to do and the kanto gyms are a boring slog. It's basically an open region so there is no level curve. Content for the sake of content is just padding.

I’d rather play BDSP over original Diamond and pearl if for no other reasons other than they don’t run as slow, and no need for HMs so you can have a bit more team diversity
I also like how they altered the pokemon that gym leaders and the league use, increasing over time in power with using natures, items, and EVs more properly.
Over the original DP, which were the weakest Pokémon games IMO (sorry Papasea, I know you like these games, but I don't share your enthusiasm)? Yes, BDSP is better. But over Platinum, which improved the original games in every thinkable aspect except the slow battles and saving? Never. HMs are annoying, yes, but not enough to still consider Platinum the best (and, seriously, only real) Sinnoh experience. Platinum is the third game that improved their originals the most and created way better experience. So much so, that the so called remakes (actually more like remasters) that ignored practically every improvement of Platinum (except some Platinum Dex Pokémon in the Underground) are no contest.
1-3 out of 10 should mean that the game barely functions for its intended purpose. No pokemon game should be below a 5 or 6 on the fact that all of them actually functions properly and you can play through from beginning to end without consistent gamebreaking glitches/bugs. Even storywise, most pokemon games are just average, nowhere close to a 1-4 out of 10.
1 is one of the worst things I've ever played 2 is very bad, very disappointed. 3 is pretty bad, disappointed. 4 is below average, failed to meet expectations. 5 is average, met expectations. 6 is decent, exceeded expectations. 7 is good, drastically exceeded expectations. 8 is very good, among my favorites. 9 is extremely good, one of the best games I've ever played. 10 is it revolutionizes gaming, genre defining. In this regard, I really wouldn't put any of the games in 1 or 2 either. But while the pokemon series is by far my favorite gaming series, period, I would definitely slap a few in the 3-4 area. S/V at launch would definitely sit comfortably in my 3, with BD/SP very nearby, maybe juuuust in 4 alongside Sw/Sh. At the end of the day, pokemon games don't really break the mould. They've never done anything special, because they don't need to, to be good games. But being just "good" will (or should) never get you higher than an 8. The only pokemon game I'd ever rate higher than an 8 would be from the Mystery Dungeon series with Explorer's, which I'd rate a solid 9.5.
I personally think more people like the games than the reviews show but only people who hate them go out of their way to rate them badly (same with Sc/V).

Rare based critic reviews and audience reviews for gens 7-9. Though I think if we look at more modern scorings, Black 2 and White 2 alongside the original Black and White would probably be in the S Tier. Gen 6 being so slandered kinda hurts though.
In all the pokemon games I have played so far, Sword and Shield have to be the ABSOLUTE WORST for me and Violet and Scarlett have to be the ABSOLUTE BEST currently. Sword/Shield trailers made it seem like we would be making friends with the gym leaders but when we met the gym leaders in game, we barely got to know them at all. The gym leaders showed up, said hi, we did a trial for them and didn't see them at all until we fought them in the pokemon league. I don't understand why anyone took a liking to Bae if we barely understood anything about her. The storyline was extremely boring where the Darkest day didn't feel impactful enough. The professors, didn't add to the story in helping us to uncover the Darkest day mysteries. It didn't feel as a major immediate threat to the world and Rose was a very poor villain. It was a real yawn fest. While we got to know Rose a bit more, he just stole a legendary pokemon that he tried to keep the region going after the Darkest day threat would arrive thousands of years in the future. Rose then went quietly after getting caught. Even his assistant, Oleana, in the post game that went crazy after Rose was caught didn't bring anything to the table. The Darkest day threat wasn't immediate so it didn't feel like something we had to deal with or stop. The rivals of Bede and the DLC rivals, Klara and Avery, felt so shoe-horned in and were try-hards in trying to seem mean and jerky. I grew tired of Bede quickly. Even the post game with the descendants, Sordward and Shielbert, (and their stupid hair styles) of the royal family of Galar felt like they were trying too hard in being annoyingly arrogant and bringing up their family history constantly. Hop was too annoyingly nice, too hyper and didn't even have any character development even when he had that depressive episode for a little bit. The only thing I did like was completing my pokedex despite the Dexit problem, the den raids were ok and the curry dex was pretty ok at best. Violet and Scarlett were absolutely amazing! You had the ongoing threat with the future and past paradox problem coming into the present era and wreaking havoc was constantly present through out the entire game and you had the mysteries of the paradox story keeping you guessing through out the entire game. Your friends/rivals with Penny, Arven and even hyper Nemona had their own backstories to dive into and Arven's was the most heartbreaking and emotional with his family issues that tied into the paradox threat and his one pokemon, Mabostiff, getting deathly sick that we went to help cure. We ran into our rivals a lot. Even the DLC rivals, Carmine and ESPECIALLY Kleran, had a lot of character development to go through and the DLC's were very well written. Even the legendary pokemon, Koraidon and Miraidon, had a ongoing storyline when you first met them to their own part in the paradox story. Even the plot twist with the professors, Turo and Sada, were surprising and I didn't see that coming. Unlike the trailers in Sword/Shield with the gym leaders, the trailers in Violet/Scarlett promised you would get to know the teachers while finding your treasure and you did! If you participated in the optional classes and participated in the teachers quests, you got really attached and knew a lot about the teachers personalities. I was a bit sad that the final classes ended when I passed and had to say goodbye. Even one of your teachers showed up during the pokemon league to fight you! You even got to know your headmaster Clavell's personality very well and he even helps you during one of your rival's storyline. The region of Paldea was very pretty and while there was still a Dexit problem, you had a lot of pokemon to catch. Even the dens, pokemon picnics and sandwich making were extremely fun and complexed with getting a special herb as a sandwich ingredient that helped get shinies. The problem is that people only look at the early glitches that Violet and Scarlett had and do not even bother to look beyond those glitches to see how fantastic Violet and Scarlett really are and have so much to offer.
This is why i dont trust fans or critics, and generally i will trust friends and a handful of streamers or youtubers who have similar tastes to me instead.

As someone who grew up with Unova, I agree, B2W2 especially. That game got me through some tough times and I enjoyed everything it had to offer. BW I also enjoyed but it did feel a bit empty after the game ended, I'd put it at A, B at the lowest, while B2W2 would be an S or even an SS if I could alongside HGSS. Though as someone who thinks that ORAS is still the best 3D Pokemon game (and someone without that much experience with Generation 3 in general), C Tier is a bit low for it as well, I'd put it in S.

I’m a newer player despite being almost 30 and I’ve only played Shield and Showdown, so I have very little to add; just that I empathize for (and fully support) the folks who leave good-faith bad reviews for newer games as a way of trying to combat the recent turn in quality. I watched tons of S/V playthroughs, and I currently watch a lot of Gens 2-4 content. The difference is noticeable even as someone who hasn’t played any of these. Newer games have had such better ideas and obvious care poured into the stories and world design…but you can’t rip a year+ of development and several big cartoony money sacks of funding away from a project and expect no one to notice. It’s not wrong to be upset about a good product made extremely poorly. ❤️
There are a LOT of games that have no post games, just to name a few Paper Mario NO Post game, The Legend of Zelda OoT NO Post game, want another? Banjo-Kazooie, NO Post game, Post game doesn't make a good game, stupid reviewers.....
I think the main point is people are talking about post-games that add more to play after you become the champion. Something like OoT or Paper Mario don’t need a post-game because the story ends when the credits roll. The same cannot be said for a Pokémon game that hinges on its competitive battle scene Unlike a traditional RPG, the credits don’t indicate the end of a story, but rather the celebration of your triumph. Your journey continues once you wake back up in your bed. Now, obviously post game ≠ good game. Critics are never positive they only rate games high if they see literally no criticism on it on twitter which we know rarely happens. Ie tears of the kingdom like if they rate that lower than a 100 then they know people will catch onto their dumb and unfair reviews as they compare games to ones the are clearly superior and not what the game actually offers, ‘professional’ critics are always bias because half the time companies literally buy high marks because critics rarely play a game fully before making their unreliable reviews.
1. (Spanish) A game that I honestly really enjoyed a lot. The gen 3 designs alone are my favorites, and the game is very entertaining. The game isn’t very long nor is it very hard, and while it’s not difficult, the league can be a bit over leveled, but I believe that’s what makes it fun and characterizes this entry. Very solid recommendation for someone beginning to play Pokemon.
4. (French, this one might be a tad off) A very good pokemon (game) that starts off well. A great first generation. It was a pleasure to play, not too difficult. The starters are iconic. The rival is great. And of course the music is 10/10 (the final Blue battle music)
From the older games, i find myself really enjoying replaying Bw2w and Platinum, and sometimes HGSS while i adore gen 3 i have replayed it so so so much since childhood that i cannot go back to it. For kanto, i cannot replay the gen 3 games, i always go back to LGPE and have a good nostalgia time.
I have to comment early into the video because I had to check the price of white board in my country and came to conclusion that somehow US has to be importing whiteboard because when put into dollars, the most expensive whiteboard i’ve seen so far is $90 and the cheapest one is like $12

Sword & Shield gets too much flac. I refused to get it at launch because of protest against GF, but was pleasantly surprised how much i actually liked it later on. The paid DLC was still just greedy though.

Contests in Bdsp got gutted as did ball capsules to an extent. Also the underground was very dumbed down to only those stupid statues for encounter bonuses rather than full base making like in the originals.

Games older than RS are not on Metacritic because, at least as far as I know, Metacritic only receives critic reviews up to 6 months after the game releases, or at least that's how it worked back on the Wii days when I used to submit reviews to them. It probably didn't exist back then.
I own Sword and the DLC. It sucks. Wasted potential with the wild area and everywhere else. Lame non villain villain team. The only good thing was the Dynamax adventure from the DLC. Scarlet and Violet and their DLC also sucks which is why I haven't bought them.
Last time I played hg and ss was when I was 14. I’m 24 now and I didn’t love the game then and I don’t like it now. It’s just to bland to me. Very slow and just boring. I’m 6 badges in and just can’t play because I get so bored

Okay, as someone who dislikes SV, but understands what people enjoy about it, I'll take up the mantle. My biggest issue with the game boils down to a single word: Empty. The world just feels empty to explore. Shops don't have interiors anymore, most NPCs can't be interacted with (and the ones who you can offer little in the way of worldbuilding), characters (in my opinion) feel bland and uninspired, character customization is at a bare minimum (referring to clothing options), and the open world leaves much to be desired I hear people throw the "if it's not fun, why bother?" quote around often. I had fun scouting Pokemon and stealth-catching them in PLA. I even had fun re-experiencing Gen 4 in BDSP, regardless of how much I loathe it for being just a port of DP. To simply put, I just can't find SV fun considering how empty the world feels. I'd expect hundreds of hours of optional content out of an open-world game. I get this is a hard thing to ask for considering Pokemon's release schedule, but having at least some side quests to do for random NPCs or the same sort of area characterization as somewhere like Johto, Sinnoh, or Unova (three regions built upon their culture and history), would liven up the world significantly. An open-world game without life is just a debug map with moving NPCs. I also hate bringing up graphics into any discussion about Pokemon because I know someone will complain, but when Dragon Quest XI looked more like a Pokemon game than Pokemon did on the Switch, there's a problem to be discussed. This is more than likely an issue with The Pokemon Company forcing GameFreak to drop quality for quantity though (XY's beta for instance had way more than the final game) So really, to put it clear, I dislike Scarlet and Violet because the games feel empty. I can admit there's things I like about it. The Pokemon designs are pretty good and the tracks they got Toby Fox to compose are great. However, it just feels like GameFreak didn't have the time, which I know could have easily improved the game given another year of development time. I get why the concept and gameplay could be fun for people, after all it IS a mainline open-world Pokemon game like we've been asking GameFreak decades for, but the general lack of content proportional to previous generations is my main gripe
Some of the worst games Ive ever played in my entire life. Also lowest rated overall compared to the other gens, and an open world has NO exploration, nice try trying to cope. Newgenners always lose the fights, and youre no exception; us people always win cause gens 2-6 are the objective good games. Paldea has the worst atmosphere of any region as well yet in the games. Thats utterly pathetic, horrific and bland route and cave designs with zero intricacies unlike gens 1-6, plus theres absolutely ZERO town lore or myths that other generations had that made places stand out. Not being able to enter half the buildings, how most of the routes have nearly the exact same layouts and same textures with no differences, the game not focusing on exploration despite being an "open world" game! So much fun. Theres not even lore in the towns. You can't even go any way you want because if you try chances are you'll be knocked out by trainers WAY higher level than you because you tried to go a way that the game didn't want you to take yet. Noclipping through an entire cave is so much fun as well totally, cant forget the floor disappearing from view sometimes! Nothing that made Johto special and beloved by most of the fanbase like the dance theater, the towers directly influenced by Japanese culture, nothing that made Hoenn special like the houses literally built in trees, the bike route and the scoreboard, the trick house, the battle tents. Nothing that made Sinnoh or Unova special either. The only good part is the storyline and not even that can save it because the characters are so utterly bland.

So because I love Sun Moon and the Ultras, I am gonna comment about them again, I was one of the negative comments in that earlier video, still loyal-ish viewer. Ultra Sun and Moon are for the most part better than Sun and Moon, and if you are gonna play just one or the other, play Ultra. The only thing they fall short is unfortunately the story. The story was simply better in Sun and Moon, even though the changes were quite small all things considered. Few small details make a big difference.

I personally rate the Let's Go games lower due to the inability to battle wild mons and forced exp share making an easy game easier for no real reason....but still enjoyed my playthrough

Why do the old pokemon games have so many revisionist reviews? A big point of reviewing a game is to see what the game offers on its own. When going back to an old game it's important to keep the context of the era in mind.
Also what's with pokemon fans and their obsession about a post game. You beat a game and you're basically done with most games. A more grounded argument is a lack of content in the game itself.
The only thing I need is a battle tower/tree. Then you can try to finish your dex and try out a different Pokémon against AI.
I already said this in another comment about post games, but I’ll paraphrase it here:
Pokémon games are not typical JRPGs in the sense that, unlike a Final Fantasy or Zelda game, your journey doesn’t end after the credits roll. It’s a competitive battler at the end of the day, so having reason to incentivize building a competitive team is paramount to a lot of players. Even more so, people just want more stuff to do after the main story
When you have a good post-game with plenty of content (HGSS, Pt, B2W2, etc.), it shows the amount of care the developers put into the game; however a lackluster or nonexistent post-game (RBY, XY, SM, SwSh, etc.) is indicative of a rushed game that is likely not as well-made

Post game in pokemon has historically been the equivalent of anime filler. It's generally boring and inconsequential. The few times that it is not is when there is a legendary attached to the end of it.
Speaking of competitive battling, why does post game matter to any of that. People actually interested in competitive battling don't care about post game. They battle online for their post game content. Meaningful post game content just slows down their ability to build their teams for competitive play.
I don't know if you noticed but opinions of gen 2 game have recently flipped. A lot of people have since pointed out how bad the johto region is. It's level curve is awful. The region is short and lack luster. The gym leaders kind of suck. The new pokemon added are few, their designs are really hit or miss, and are often not even in johto. The kanto region is completely hollow. There isn't much to do and the kanto gyms are a boring slog. It's basically an open region so there is no level curve. Content for the sake of content is just padding.

Interesting video, and a nice idea to rank the list based on online fan ratings to mix it up a bit. I’m about 50-50 with some of the overall rankings, I can see where a majority of them were coming from.
I’d rather play BDSP over original Diamond and pearl if for no other reasons other than they don’t run as slow, and no need for HMs so you can have a bit more team diversity
I also like how they altered the pokemon that gym leaders and the league use, increasing over time in power with using natures, items, and EVs more properly.
Over the original DP, which were the weakest Pokémon games IMO (sorry Papasea, I know you like these games, but I don't share your enthusiasm)? Yes, BDSP is better. But over Platinum, which improved the original games in every thinkable aspect except the slow battles and saving? Never. HMs are annoying, yes, but not enough to still consider Platinum the best (and, seriously, only real) Sinnoh experience. Platinum is the third game that improved their originals the most and created way better experience. So much so, that the so called remakes (actually more like remasters) that ignored practically every improvement of Platinum (except some Platinum Dex Pokémon in the Underground) are no contest.

1-3 out of 10 should mean that the game barely functions for its intended purpose. No pokemon game should be below a 5 or 6 on the fact that all of them actually functions properly and you can play through from beginning to end without consistent gamebreaking glitches/bugs. Even storywise, most pokemon games are just average, nowhere close to a 1-4 out of 10.
1 is one of the worst things I've ever played
2 is very bad, very disappointed.
3 is pretty bad, disappointed.
4 is below average, failed to meet expectations.
5 is average, met expectations.
6 is decent, exceeded expectations.
7 is good, drastically exceeded expectations.
8 is very good, among my favorites.
9 is extremely good, one of the best games I've ever played.
10 is it revolutionizes gaming, genre defining.
In this regard, I really wouldn't put any of the games in 1 or 2 either. But while the pokemon series is by far my favorite gaming series, period, I would definitely slap a few in the 3-4 area. S/V at launch would definitely sit comfortably in my 3, with BD/SP very nearby, maybe juuuust in 4 alongside Sw/Sh.
At the end of the day, pokemon games don't really break the mould. They've never done anything special, because they don't need to, to be good games. But being just "good" will (or should) never get you higher than an 8.
The only pokemon game I'd ever rate higher than an 8 would be from the Mystery Dungeon series with Explorer's, which I'd rate a solid 9.5.

Rare based critic reviews and audience reviews for gens 7-9. Though I think if we look at more modern scorings, Black 2 and White 2 alongside the original Black and White would probably be in the S Tier. Gen 6 being so slandered kinda hurts though.
In all the pokemon games I have played so far, Sword and Shield have to be the ABSOLUTE WORST for me and Violet and Scarlett have to be the ABSOLUTE BEST currently.
Sword/Shield trailers made it seem like we would be making friends with the gym leaders but when we met the gym leaders in game, we barely got to know them at all. The gym leaders showed up, said hi, we did a trial for them and didn't see them at all until we fought them in the pokemon league. I don't understand why anyone took a liking to Bae if we barely understood anything about her. The storyline was extremely boring where the Darkest day didn't feel impactful enough. The professors, didn't add to the story in helping us to uncover the Darkest day mysteries. It didn't feel as a major immediate threat to the world and Rose was a very poor villain. It was a real yawn fest. While we got to know Rose a bit more, he just stole a legendary pokemon that he tried to keep the region going after the Darkest day threat would arrive thousands of years in the future. Rose then went quietly after getting caught. Even his assistant, Oleana, in the post game that went crazy after Rose was caught didn't bring anything to the table. The Darkest day threat wasn't immediate so it didn't feel like something we had to deal with or stop. The rivals of Bede and the DLC rivals, Klara and Avery, felt so shoe-horned in and were try-hards in trying to seem mean and jerky. I grew tired of Bede quickly. Even the post game with the descendants, Sordward and Shielbert, (and their stupid hair styles) of the royal family of Galar felt like they were trying too hard in being annoyingly arrogant and bringing up their family history constantly. Hop was too annoyingly nice, too hyper and didn't even have any character development even when he had that depressive episode for a little bit.
The only thing I did like was completing my pokedex despite the Dexit problem, the den raids were ok and the curry dex was pretty ok at best.
Violet and Scarlett were absolutely amazing! You had the ongoing threat with the future and past paradox problem coming into the present era and wreaking havoc was constantly present through out the entire game and you had the mysteries of the paradox story keeping you guessing through out the entire game. Your friends/rivals with Penny, Arven and even hyper Nemona had their own backstories to dive into and Arven's was the most heartbreaking and emotional with his family issues that tied into the paradox threat and his one pokemon, Mabostiff, getting deathly sick that we went to help cure. We ran into our rivals a lot. Even the DLC rivals, Carmine and ESPECIALLY Kleran, had a lot of character development to go through and the DLC's were very well written. Even the legendary pokemon, Koraidon and Miraidon, had a ongoing storyline when you first met them to their own part in the paradox story. Even the plot twist with the professors, Turo and Sada, were surprising and I didn't see that coming.
Unlike the trailers in Sword/Shield with the gym leaders, the trailers in Violet/Scarlett promised you would get to know the teachers while finding your treasure and you did! If you participated in the optional classes and participated in the teachers quests, you got really attached and knew a lot about the teachers personalities. I was a bit sad that the final classes ended when I passed and had to say goodbye. Even one of your teachers showed up during the pokemon league to fight you! You even got to know your headmaster Clavell's personality very well and he even helps you during one of your rival's storyline.
The region of Paldea was very pretty and while there was still a Dexit problem, you had a lot of pokemon to catch. Even the dens, pokemon picnics and sandwich making were extremely fun and complexed with getting a special herb as a sandwich ingredient that helped get shinies.
The problem is that people only look at the early glitches that Violet and Scarlett had and do not even bother to look beyond those glitches to see how fantastic Violet and Scarlett really are and have so much to offer.
This is why i dont trust fans or critics, and generally i will trust friends and a handful of streamers or youtubers who have similar tastes to me instead.

Pokemon is game made and catered to kids (not adults) if you are going to sit there and complain (as an adult) that it's to easy, you need a harsh reality check.

(Just compare your mental capacity, problem solving skills, and overall knowledge or experience to that of a small child. Big difference? Right? Then why sit there and complain that a game that is made for children is to easy for you?

As someone who grew up with Unova, I agree, B2W2 especially. That game got me through some tough times and I enjoyed everything it had to offer.
BW I also enjoyed but it did feel a bit empty after the game ended, I'd put it at A, B at the lowest, while B2W2 would be an S or even an SS if I could alongside HGSS.
Though as someone who thinks that ORAS is still the best 3D Pokemon game (and someone without that much experience with Generation 3 in general), C Tier is a bit low for it as well, I'd put it in S.

I’m a newer player despite being almost 30 and I’ve only played Shield and Showdown, so I have very little to add; just that I empathize for (and fully support) the folks who leave good-faith bad reviews for newer games as a way of trying to combat the recent turn in quality.
I watched tons of S/V playthroughs, and I currently watch a lot of Gens 2-4 content. The difference is noticeable even as someone who hasn’t played any of these.
Newer games have had such better ideas and obvious care poured into the stories and world design…but you can’t rip a year+ of development and several big cartoony money sacks of funding away from a project and expect no one to notice. It’s not wrong to be upset about a good product made extremely poorly. ❤️

I think the main point is people are talking about post-games that add more to play after you become the champion. Something like OoT or Paper Mario don’t need a post-game because the story ends when the credits roll. The same cannot be said for a Pokémon game that hinges on its competitive battle scene

Critics are never positive they only rate games high if they see literally no criticism on it on twitter which we know rarely happens. Ie tears of the kingdom like if they rate that lower than a 100 then they know people will catch onto their dumb and unfair reviews as they compare games to ones the are clearly superior and not what the game actually offers, ‘professional’ critics are always bias because half the time companies literally buy high marks because critics rarely play a game fully before making their unreliable reviews.

1. (Spanish) A game that I honestly really enjoyed a lot. The gen 3 designs alone are my favorites, and the game is very entertaining. The game isn’t very long nor is it very hard, and while it’s not difficult, the league can be a bit over leveled, but I believe that’s what makes it fun and characterizes this entry. Very solid recommendation for someone beginning to play Pokemon.
2. (Portuguese) Awesome. Pokémon is awesome. I beat the game and then caught all the pokemon in Kanto. Highly recommend.
3. (Spanish) A great remake of the first generation, with a few changes that suit it really well
4. (French, this one might be a tad off) A very good pokemon (game) that starts off well. A great first generation. It was a pleasure to play, not too difficult. The starters are iconic. The rival is great. And of course the music is 10/10 (the final Blue battle music)

From the older games, i find myself really enjoying replaying Bw2w and Platinum, and sometimes HGSS while i adore gen 3 i have replayed it so so so much since childhood that i cannot go back to it.
For kanto, i cannot replay the gen 3 games, i always go back to LGPE and have a good nostalgia time.

Sword & Shield gets too much flac. I refused to get it at launch because of protest against GF, but was pleasantly surprised how much i actually liked it later on. The paid DLC was still just greedy though.

Even if the release gap between vanilla SM and Ultra was 3 years - the longest it would be given how this series operates - they'd still get blasted for being so similar.
Contests in Bdsp got gutted as did ball capsules to an extent. Also the underground was very dumbed down to only those stupid statues for encounter bonuses rather than full base making like in the originals.
The angry fire red reviewer said that pokemon had figured out what the game was by gen 3… no they haven’t… the basic formula isn’t even fully realized until Platinum came around, and to say that Fire Red has no story, it’s because it was a remake of Red and Blue, it’s not meant to completely change the story progression, I can tell this person Played RSE, then ORAS before even touching RGY and FRLG and of course a bias to gen 5 which is way later than the gen 3, when gaming industry is more profound, when gamefreak had figured out the Pokemon Universe, like I said, pokemon hadn’t figured **** during gen 3 era

Games older than RS are not on Metacritic because, at least as far as I know, Metacritic only receives critic reviews up to 6 months after the game releases, or at least that's how it worked back on the Wii days when I used to submit reviews to them. It probably didn't exist back then.
I own Sword and the DLC. It sucks. Wasted potential with the wild area and everywhere else. Lame non villain villain team. The only good thing was the Dynamax adventure from the DLC.
Scarlet and Violet and their DLC also sucks which is why I haven't bought them.

I never got the SV hate as its a good game with some fun bugs and they removed the game breaking glitches, is it my favourite, no, but does not deserve that many low score reviews, it has a good story, great gameplay and fun exploration, can someone explain the hate for these games
Okay, as someone who dislikes SV, but understands what people enjoy about it, I'll take up the mantle. My biggest issue with the game boils down to a single word:
Empty.
The world just feels empty to explore. Shops don't have interiors anymore, most NPCs can't be interacted with (and the ones who you can offer little in the way of worldbuilding), characters (in my opinion) feel bland and uninspired, character customization is at a bare minimum (referring to clothing options), and the open world leaves much to be desired
I hear people throw the "if it's not fun, why bother?" quote around often. I had fun scouting Pokemon and stealth-catching them in PLA. I even had fun re-experiencing Gen 4 in BDSP, regardless of how much I loathe it for being just a port of DP. To simply put, I just can't find SV fun considering how empty the world feels. I'd expect hundreds of hours of optional content out of an open-world game. I get this is a hard thing to ask for considering Pokemon's release schedule, but having at least some side quests to do for random NPCs or the same sort of area characterization as somewhere like Johto, Sinnoh, or Unova (three regions built upon their culture and history), would liven up the world significantly. An open-world game without life is just a debug map with moving NPCs.
I also hate bringing up graphics into any discussion about Pokemon because I know someone will complain, but when Dragon Quest XI looked more like a Pokemon game than Pokemon did on the Switch, there's a problem to be discussed. This is more than likely an issue with The Pokemon Company forcing GameFreak to drop quality for quantity though (XY's beta for instance had way more than the final game)
So really, to put it clear, I dislike Scarlet and Violet because the games feel empty. I can admit there's things I like about it. The Pokemon designs are pretty good and the tracks they got Toby Fox to compose are great. However, it just feels like GameFreak didn't have the time, which I know could have easily improved the game given another year of development time. I get why the concept and gameplay could be fun for people, after all it IS a mainline open-world Pokemon game like we've been asking GameFreak decades for, but the general lack of content proportional to previous generations is my main gripe
Some of the worst games Ive ever played in my entire life. Also lowest rated overall compared to the other gens, and an open world has NO exploration, nice try trying to cope. Newgenners always lose the fights, and youre no exception; us people always win cause gens 2-6 are the objective good games. Paldea has the worst atmosphere of any region as well yet in the games. Thats utterly pathetic, horrific and bland route and cave designs with zero intricacies unlike gens 1-6, plus theres absolutely ZERO town lore or myths that other generations had that made places stand out.
Not being able to enter half the buildings, how most of the routes have nearly the exact same layouts and same textures with no differences, the game not focusing on exploration despite being an "open world" game! So much fun. Theres not even lore in the towns.
You can't even go any way you want because if you try chances are you'll be knocked out by trainers WAY higher level than you because you tried to go a way that the game didn't want you to take yet. Noclipping through an entire cave is so much fun as well totally, cant forget the floor disappearing from view sometimes!
Nothing that made Johto special and beloved by most of the fanbase like the dance theater, the towers directly influenced by Japanese culture, nothing that made Hoenn special like the houses literally built in trees, the bike route and the scoreboard, the trick house, the battle tents. Nothing that made Sinnoh or Unova special either. The only good part is the storyline and not even that can save it because the characters are so utterly bland.

Always read multiple youtuber's reviews to compare notes instead of 1 line reviews. I still don't think there would be any other game worse than BDSP in a long shot. Pt overshadows it. Moral: QoL updates aren't everything

So because I love Sun Moon and the Ultras, I am gonna comment about them again, I was one of the negative comments in that earlier video, still loyal-ish viewer.
Ultra Sun and Moon are for the most part better than Sun and Moon, and if you are gonna play just one or the other, play Ultra. The only thing they fall short is unfortunately the story. The story was simply better in Sun and Moon, even though the changes were quite small all things considered. Few small details make a big difference.

Like for me, im a very story driven person and like games woth deeo stories. So black and white and black and white 2 are both S tier cause of their deep story and the fact bw2 arent just remakes, theyre whole new games. Their story is enough to make up for all the bad pokemon designs in that region for me.
But other ppl dont like deep stories, or the pokemon designs are to bad for them to bypass. And thats fine.
