I recently (as in literally about a month ago) found another pokemon fact that has gone unknown since the FR and LG remakes of gen1. There is dialogue from Prof. Oak that occurs during your first battle with Gary after you pick your starters. There are dialogue options for every conceivable action you can commit in a battle, but there are dialogues that occur ONLY if you have hacked the game in certain ways (like using a universal randomizer to make your starter immune to Gary's and randomizing the potion in the PC to other healing items). One such collection of extra unseen dialogues are: - Oak comments on you switching to a second pokemon when your first pokemon faints. - Oak comments on you using Pokemon that resist your opponent's moves. - Oak comments on you putting status conditions on a pokemon. (There may possibly even be dialogue for every single action possible in a battle)
Guy who sent in his copy of Pokemon Ruby to get it patched here - I remember reading some kids magazine back in the day where Nintendo ran an ad asking players to sent in their game. I think it was related to the internal clock of the game, after a year or so the clock wouldn't work anymore and no more berries could grow in your game. I had my parents send the cartridge to Nintendo (Germany in my case) and shortly after they returned it. And like you mentioned, a shiny Zigzagoon holding a rare berry, otherwise unobtainable in the game, was newly added to one of my boxes. So yea, shit worked :)
On a slightly related note: Nintendo would allow anyone who screwed up the infamous "tweaking" or "Surf glitches" from the Gen 4 games (the latter only working on the Japanese copies) to send in their games and be hacked out of the black void. This is because while if done properly, the glitches were very safe, if not done properly, you could have been stuck in the void forever.
Same here, i remember reading somewhere u could send in your ruby/sapphire carts so berries would start growing again, however i clearly remember it didn't say you'd get a shiny Zigzagoon, but 'a special pokemon' (Dutch translated magazine, as I am Belgian) & i actually anticipated something way rarer (like a Celebi or the thing u needed to get to Deoxys) so i was quite disappointed, however I did evolve it into a Linoone (i think it had orange lining?) I even think it did have a move/ability it normally couldn't have? I'm not entirely sure though... We're talking about 14 years ago here or something
The reason for Gen 4's script having internet humor scattered through it isn't just because of the timing. One of the people on the translation team, Nob Ogasawara, frequented the SomethingAwful boards and there's actually a few direct references to that site sprinkled around gens 4 and 5.
also, the drifloon pokedex entry was explained by legends! drifloon doesnt intentionally kidnap kids, it just wants to play and doesnt understand that its friend has to go home. its basically just a child-
I have a fact for you, you might not know yet: In Gen 8 some of the German names of Pokémon attacks were changed, to make more sense. E.g. Pound was called "Pfund", which does translate to Pound, but refers to the unit of measurement or the currency. It is not called "Klaps" which is a light slap.
Klaps ist Pfund? What, they finally fixed it and I didn't even realize? That mistranslation has annoyed me for so many years, omg hearing this makes me so happy now! 😂
@@eminentstir As a child I legitimately assumed "Pfund" might be an outdated synonym for "Schlag" or "Hieb" (Punch). Luckily, I never got into the awkward position of actually using it that way and being met with utter confusion. Unlike the move Kratzfurie (Fury Swipes), where I thought it meant "a load of swipes" and once said "Furie" instead of "Fuhre" (load), not knowing about the Greek/Roman goddesses of vengeance, called Furie/Furien (fury/furies).
I’m an American who has learned a decent chunk of German so I like to play Pokémon in German and I was so confused about that. I was like “I thought Pfund meant like weight but I’m not German what do I know” 😂
I'd always thought that I'd misremembered or been mistaken that the colours in my Gold version had been distorted by fishing once. Really cool to know that it is known as a glitch dimension - younger me was scared that something had broke or that I'd reset something really cool.
@@LucianeTorres-vc9oi if you have a gba cart in the ds your able to find tons of gen 1 Mons in a few different locations, hope that made sense, happy holidays!
And here is one more fact, that you might not know. In theenglish Gen 1 Games, Mewtwos Cave is called "Cerulean Cave", in the Japanese games its name translates to "Nameless Cave", both can only be seen in-game by talking to the NPC that blocks the Cave and when opening the Town Map inside the Cave (its not on the map if you are not in the cave). Fun fact the orange Poketch thing got explained in the Pokémon Adventures manga, it was custom made for someone else entirely. Basically, in the manga, Platinum (Dawn) is the daughter of some super rich guy who hired bodyguards to protect her on her journey, and she was told they would be wearing red and green scarves because that should be specific enough, right… except Diamond (Lucas) and Pearl (Barry) also wear red and green scarves, friends who had just won a prize for a standup comedy contest, but before they opened up the envelope with the tickets to find out what it was (a free guided bike tour of Jubilife City), and due to some circumstances they bumped into Platinum’s dad and got the envelope mixed up with the envelope in which Platinum’s dad had the top secret details and contract and whatnot for the bodyguards, so Diamond and Pearl open up this envelope and see something about a trip to Mount Coronet with a crazy high “bounty” and assume it was some sort of crazy luxury trip with a huge cash prize, while Platinum meets up with them and assumes that her father must have found some incredible skilled preteen bodyguards so that nobody would suspect anything and think it was just three friends on a journey, and Diamond and Pearl are given the Poketches, Pokédexes, and Starter Pokémon that had been prepared for the bodyguards, and they set out on a journey together with Diamond and Pearl convinced that Platinum is some weirdly demanding and pushy tour guide, and Platinum convinced that Diamond and Pearl are these expert bodyguards who are so clever that they act incompetent and unaware as a cover story and that their standup comedy consisting mostly of Pokémon puns are a secret training exercise, and the whole thing is hilarious and wholesome and if you’re ever going to read the Pokémon Adventures manga I’d say read the Diamond and Pearl arc and Platinum arc because I love these three dumbasses and you will too
In earlier games when breeding pokemon you could have a male and a female of that pokemon species know a move that the species learns later and the egg will hatch with that move learned. Not like an egg move but just you can farm down entire move sets of the higher level moves. That explains why some pokemon can be seen knowing moves at earlier levels.
oh oh oh! with the joycon thing, it just takes the hex code of what your joycons are and applies them accordingly. i only know this bc i got a custom case and changed my joycon hex codes to match and they showed up like that in game. super cute touch!!
Yeah that booger salmon used to bother me as a kid. Granted, as my English got better I stopped noticing such things. But to a child who just recently started learning English, this was indeed weird.
Interesting enough I was surprised to find a flying Garchomp near the Pokémon league in Pokémon violent the other day. It was flying above the great crater directly while I was battling it, my Pokémon actually fell into the crater during the battle and the battle continue, and it was kind of ironic because whenever the Garchomp would attack it would have to travel down to attack it
I remember getting that shiny Zigzagoon through a kiosk at Gamestop. I don't remember how I ever heard of it to begin with, but clearly younger me was severely misunderstood as to what I would be getting. I misread the prerequisite of needing to obtain your starter pokemon as me thinking I'd be receiving my choice of one of the other two starters. Needless to say I was confused as hell why I got an off colored Zigzagoon (yeah there's the other kicker, I didn't know what shinies were yet despite previously playing Gold version and catching the red Gyarados), so I took the Liechi berry and released the thing 😭
Back then i only knew about shinies because we had a game shark where one option was to encounter only shinies, not sure if the option really called it "shiny" though. I thought the red gyrados was even more special, like a legend, so we all thought there must be a secret area or something were you can encounter all the other off color pokemon since the cheat existed. We had no clue that they are just extremely rare encounters.
Fun fact about a fact in this video, the text displayed for taking no damage in Bianca fight, is impossible to attain on an authentic, unmodified cart.
on the topic of Pokemon names that mean things in other languages - Sandile is actually a common male name in South Africa. it means “we increased” in Zulu, Ndebele and Xhosa.
There is a glitch city glitch in Links Awakening as well that causes a strange color palate swap and it creates a rather cool brown forest-like sepia tone effect that can be permanently applied to the game if saved. In order to activate it you have to be using emulation and use rewind over and over til you see the error code "this game must be played on a gameboy color"
Regarding getting stuck in a pokemon game, I was stuck for several days in my first run-thru of Sapphire but it was due to my own stupidity. In my defense, I was only ten at the time lol. So right in front of the trick house, where the cycling road's bridge stretches over the route, I didn't realize you could go UNDER the bridge. I had some of those gen 3 promotional bookmarks! I think my grandmother got them somewhere and gave them to me. Like I had a good few of them and gave some out to friends at school. Thats how I learned gen 3 was coming out and I was pumped!
Yo I remember that Ruby and Sapphire bookmark. They had a ton of those in the library at my school during the X and Y era which is very interesting. I remember everyone had one too. I was one of the very few people who actually knew what games they were and actually could name all the Pokémon on them too. I probably still have mine laying around somewhere 😂
I had some too! Only I had them before Ruby and Sapphire released. I think my grandmother got them somewhere and gave them to me. I had plenty to hand out to friends and I remember liking how they smelled for some reason 😅
12:00 I can't confirm if it's everytime but the Pikachu from yellow version, when traded to gen 2 carries a light ball. I remember it happening when I did it as a child but only did it once
I think part of the challenge of the game is being limited to both six Pokémon and four moves per Pokémon. Makes you strategize better. I feel like increasing either would make the game slightly easier. IMO, part of the hours of fun is the challenge.
This has worked in every game right up the present generation (well, Gen 8 at least). In fact, this was the best way to force horde battles in Gen 6, which could allow for up to 50-60 EVs at a time.
9:56 this remained the case until Generation Five. A more interesting fact would have been: "Unova was the first region to have all of its towns and cities use a unique theme." Johto had Violet/Olivine, Azalea/Blackthorn and Ecruteak/Cianwood however that last one was reimagined in HGSS Hoenn had Mauville/Rustboro/Mossdeep and Oldale/Lavaridge Sinnoh had some pretty obvious ones like Solaceon/Pastoria, and Celestic/Eterna All Unovan settlements have unique music, although I'm not completely sure about routes off the top of my head and I'm not going to check.
I still have my Kyogre Coin and even know where it is! Kind of an impressive feat given I was still in grade school when the games came out! I also purposely went into Scarlet and Violet completely blind to any pokemon not officially revealed- it was wonderful! I had forgotten that sense of wonder! Even if I did realize I missed a couple shinies because I didn’t know the Pokemon weren’t supposed to be that color.
Idk man, trading that Slakoth for the Makuhita in Gen 3 is something ive always done. Yes, Makuhita isn’t rare but I always found having him early and also getting boosted EXP was extremely helpful
Got my shiny Mudkip while watching this video in pokemon ruby. Shit was hype and I enjoyed listening to the many things I didn’t know about in these games.
Found one incorrect fact; 7:50 Gold and Silver were never planned to be the last games. Those claims come from a misquoted Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of The Pokémon Company. What he said was that *he* was done with Pokémon, that the time for *him* to do something else was coming. He later changed his mind, saying, "I couldn't rightly get off the ride that soon."
Fun fact: 雷 (kaminari) is generally translated as thunder, while イナズマ (inazuma) is generally translated as lightning. So that's the difference between them. In Japanese, the words have completely different origins and have been used differently.
The reason they changed “fAint attack” to “fEint attack” is because of the words definition… feint is making a distraction movement while typically fighting …since they do a fake thrust first to get the pokemon to dodge one direction first it never misses. While faint attack should by name be a OHKO
Adding on to the fact about seeing your Pokémon's backsprite in its Summary: If you use the stylus and do quick horizontal swipes on the touch screen, then your Pokémon's sprite will start bouncing from left to right like it's dancing!
Fun Fact: There Is 1 Tile Of Grass In The First Patches Of Grass You See When You Enter Flocessy Ranch In Pokemon B2 That Doesn’t Have Any Animations Or Encounters, But Has The Image In Tile Of Grass In That Patch.

Wigglytuff being named "Custard" would actually make a lot of sense since Jigglypuff is "Purin" (Pudding) in Japan.
God dang you why did you tell me that the trees in Sinnoh look like buff guys now that's all I'm going to see. You sir have taken my innocence😂
I've seen a speedrun where they used cut on grass to skip a trainer while they had to menu some stuff anyways so it was faster then using a repel.
Awesomeness content bro
Idk if this is common knowledge or not but at least in emerald, you can use sweet scent outside of battle to force a wild pokemon to appear
This has worked in every game right up the present generation (well, Gen 8 at least). In fact, this was the best way to force horde battles in Gen 6, which could allow for up to 50-60 EVs at a time.
I feel like Barry is cracked enough to paint his Potech orange immediately after buying it.
9:56 this remained the case until Generation Five. A more interesting fact would have been: "Unova was the first region to have all of its towns and cities use a unique theme."
Johto had Violet/Olivine, Azalea/Blackthorn and Ecruteak/Cianwood however that last one was reimagined in HGSS
Hoenn had Mauville/Rustboro/Mossdeep and Oldale/Lavaridge
Sinnoh had some pretty obvious ones like Solaceon/Pastoria, and Celestic/Eterna
All Unovan settlements have unique music, although I'm not completely sure about routes off the top of my head and I'm not going to check.
Oh yes baby, my time to sleep! Blessed PaPaSleepingPill
This is a blessing from the Sea!
I KNEW IT! YOU CAN HEAR POKEMON CRIES IN THE OVERWORLD! IM NOT CRAZY!
Hey PaPaSea, have you seen the glitch where you can start gen 1 with all 3 starters? Would love to see a play through of this from your channel
This glitch is game breaking. I’ve done it.
@ThisIsAStoryAboutAGirlNamed Amy I've only managed to get 2, every time I go for the 3rd I screw up the timing
Idk man, trading that Slakoth for the Makuhita in Gen 3 is something ive always done. Yes, Makuhita isn’t rare but I always found having him early and also getting boosted EXP was extremely helpful
I remember Telefang being called Pokemon. How could I forget giving my "Pokemon" a gun?
I am SUPER excited to try the patching trick with Ruby/Sapphire!
Got my shiny Mudkip while watching this video in pokemon ruby. Shit was hype and I enjoyed listening to the many things I didn’t know about in these games.
Finnaly a long video
I knew most of these but the extended cut range from hyper cutter and the gift tentacool are pretty nuts
35:30 the shiny Pokémon hatched from the odd egg will always have hidden power grass
Could listen to this all day!
I've got both of the ruby and sapphire coins and I still have them in their packaging too!
Bonus fact for the grass cutting one: hyper cutter increases the range of the mowing
Thank you.
@@AltheHealer Yep! I didn't wanna come off as an "Um, ackshually" type, but I am also extremely knowledgeable about this franchise
Fun fact: 雷 (kaminari) is generally translated as thunder, while イナズマ (inazuma) is generally translated as lightning. So that's the difference between them. In Japanese, the words have completely different origins and have been used differently.
One thing I’ve noticed is in gen 2, the bicycle theme is Goldenrods theme sped up
I did customer service for Nintendo from 2010-2013 and it wasn't part of NOA while I did cs
Violet is about to outsell Scarlett too
6:24 This is the PERFECT opportunity to make a new paradox pokemon.
Time to get my block pathed by booger salmon…
The reason they changed “fAint attack” to “fEint attack” is because of the words definition… feint is making a distraction movement while typically fighting …since they do a fake thrust first to get the pokemon to dodge one direction first it never misses. While faint attack should by name be a OHKO
Weird TH-cam recommended but good video 👍
Adding on to the fact about seeing your Pokémon's backsprite in its Summary:
If you use the stylus and do quick horizontal swipes on the touch screen, then your Pokémon's sprite will start bouncing from left to right like it's dancing!
Fun Fact: There Is 1 Tile Of Grass In The First Patches Of Grass You See When You Enter Flocessy Ranch In Pokemon B2 That Doesn’t Have Any Animations Or Encounters, But Has The Image In Tile Of Grass In That Patch.
