- Fishing land based can be very rewarding. Bringing home a catch of fish for dinner is not all that hard if you know how.
In this video my target is Leatherjacket. These fish are a prolific land-based target. They are plentiful, easy to catch and love structure.
You will find them anywhere you find reef, rock or under pier and bridge pilons.
They will eat prawns, squid and pipis. Just keep your offerings close to the structure and it won't take long will you get a bite.
Leatherjackets are also delicious and easy to clean.
Make sure to watch till the end as I will show you just how easy they are to catch and clean.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave me a comment and I will try my best to answer them.

We always ate them shallow fried in batter with salt and malt vinegar, often for Sunday breakfast after fishing on saturday. When you skin too many, your soft, wet fingertips will get torn to shreds so be aware. You don't notice at first but it hurts. I would have been inclined to use a running float and stopper there. There was a story fròm years ago about one in the aquarium at Taronga Park Zoo that had no body. Somebody had caught it, cut the head and gut out and thrown it back still alive, only for it to heal over and eventually be caught again.
Yum that sounds great 👍
Nice catch. LJs were my first catch as a kid too. We fished Circular Quay with a cork hand line. They’re called “file fish” in some countries. The dried skin was used as sandpaper in some cultures. Nice video. 🤓👍
Thanks David. They are a great little fish to catch. I don't normly target them but was a pleasant change . Glad to hear you enjoyed the vedio.

I always caught a number of leatherjackets each time I fished around Sydney Harbour pier, but 80% of them are with one or more leatherjacket lice
I've never encountered that. Maybe as I catch them I'm a little more open water

what are schoolies?
@@jimfishing6522the bait used. School prawns
I think the 'schoolies' he's referring to are the small prawns/shrimp he's using for bait. Beautiful spot he's fishing at!!
Any good fish market will have them in season. I get them from Preston Market
