"According to Azagthoth, Sandoval's Morbid Angel bandmates once played a prank on him by making him listen to an automated drum machine which they claimed was an actual drummer who could play faster than him. Sandoval believed them, went on to practice, and eventually managed to play faster than the drum machine, to the amazement of his bandmates who thought it was impossible." -Wikipedia May have already been posted
This is true. I have known pete since GtA came out. Like..personally know him. Been to his house. Have his number all that. This has been verified by him. Also..I have lost contact after he moved back to El Salvador unfortunately.
I stood behind Pete during an entire Morbid Angel set at a UNI gig in Australia, must have been during the 90s. He was phenomenal to watch, and I hung out with him and the band after and had a nice chat to him about our favorite drummers. No surprise, he loved Dave Lombardo, which put a smile on my face!
Crazy! Yea he said in interview and on his facebook. Posted a pic of Dave from the late 80's saying dave lombardo is one of his Main influences. Awesome. Dave and Pete. Area in 2. Just thought I'd share.
They are all great but Commando in his league of his own with that one footed drum kick blast beat😮💨Kollias or Roddy wouldnt have existed if wasnt for Pete
pete is defidently one of the fastest best drummers i've ever heard, hes known for his speed and stamina while playing, and he never gives up on that kick lol
To blast this metronomically fast whilst being this rapid and clean on the double bass circa 2003 (21yrs ago) is astonishing. There were a few other awesome death metal drummers just starting out, who were also ahead of their time, when he first hit the scene in 1989 (e.g. Steve Asheim • Mike Smith • Derek Roddy) but Pete is the one true extreme metal drumming pioneer in my view.
A sensor picks up head vibration, converts it to electronic pulses, feeds it to a processor which provides to sound to those pulses, then to an amp. With MIDI, you can assign almost any sound to a trigger, so you'll hear an acoustic drum sound, if mic'd, and the MIDI sound together. Some used them for a more natural sounding electronic drum, before the Roland V-pro came out, and to overcome high volume mic feedback on stage. The triggers don't need mics.
oh my God dude fuckin seriously..... that was AMAZING!!!!! and those blast beats are flawless!! and not only are they flawless, but theyre fast as fuck too!
i've seen this live from 20 ft. away and it was awesome!!! i do like the older stuff better though.the drums and guitar both are a more original sound that is legendary and iconic and the newer stuff is faster, harder, and more brutal, but that is how it stays at the same level as the old stuff.they are so badass now, that they are more mature and experienced, they can just whip out killer tunes but on the old ones they had to try harder to get to that sound and it makes the music alot better !!!

I remember hearin' It when I was 13 maybe 14 Years Old Without My Own Drumset, Now I'm Havin' It and My Own Band, still amazed what Pete done here, pure fuckin' masterpiece
TheMaskedProducer Almost all deathmetal drumming is about 20-40% real kit and 60-80% sample. Most of the actual kit you're likely to get is about 40% so it will almost always sound quite artificial. Chances are it's still a guy playing though.
TheMaskedProducer seen it live in late 80's it's real and you should check him doing Mozart on a kit when it came to metal drumming when these bands were in style it was pete sandoval and dave lombardo rule the school, they made lars of metallica look like a muppet.
TheMaskedProducer Pete uses triggers instead of mics so that he can have the same drum sound each and every album. On alters of madness it's all mic'd though and he still plays like this.
@Trendkill213 The best drum teacher is the desire to learn.10 years on the drum tought me that.Cymbal research, tom discoveries, drum history, rythms, beats, jazz, rock, etc ect.Its all in ones blood.Pete Sandoval is an example that we as humans can achieve speed/stamina levels we only imagine.
@SuperGunnGunn Agreed, especially bassists. There aren't many records I listen to where the bass guitar can be easily heard. If I could, I'd remix all of my albums with the bass almost up front. Adds so much depth to the songs.
A drummer like Trey has totally devoted his entire life to the instrument. The only way to get that good is to practice HOURS a day for years and years. It could be compared to lifting weights. You have to be TOTALLY dedicated with a strick practice schedule. There are no miracle drugs, just practice your fucking ass off. I once read that Richard Christy of Death practiced 3-6 hours a day for 20 years before he got the Death gig.
why the haters? utubers are very awsome at everything and anything.they cant even enjoy the music for what it is.its just music nobody is perfect and somebody somewhere is always better.just enjoy whats in front of you life would be so much more enjoyable
growing up in el salvador with fear, knowing that the end of life was near, never understood why all that killing, until this day I have that same feeling,I will always remember that suffering land, where killing stills happens out of hand, walking slowly on that hot sand to reach the promise land, what remains just fading steps, and wish was there to give a hand, deep inside we are all the same, will regret it that's ashame this guy is not a machine,he is a god

I love the end.....the soundman's like, "No, I just wanted to hear your kick drum, actually....."
It's a shame metal drummers don't get the credit that they deserve
Nope never have and never will. Hail to the fn metal🤘💀🤘
As a drummer, this makes me want to cry.

Of happiness
Pete Sandoval, Gene Hoglan, and of course Dave Lombardo.... top 3 cats in metal music.

Lol he's bass drumming is faster than me tappin desk with two hands
Tito 223 you should look up Tim Yeung if u want fast double bass
Shin Kuro Tim Yeung is a good drummer with a good resume, but he picked a bad time to join his favorite band, I’ll say that
I just tried that... my fingers died trying
out of the total, i probably have contributed 100,000 views on this video
Navendu Dogra no I did
I have to and the 2009 namm drum solo he does
A trigger is a device that makes sure you get the loudest sound every time you strike any drum. It is not an automatic device that plays on it's own.
Absolutely.
Pete = The Man.
Pete = Genius.
The Man + Genius = GOD.
I could listen to this all day, so fucking awesome.
Nergal945 I've done that over a hundred times. And I still play the crap out of it.
The father of the death metal drumming...Hail Sandoval!!!
How many beats per second pete plays. So freaking mind blowing 🤯
This always went over well when I played this during shows as a DJ.
I remember when B-Rad showed me this. I still visit it very often :)
"ok pete, now just let me hear your kick drum please" haha he got more than a kick drum XD

Pete Sandoval: Un verdadero orgullo salvadoreño!
Enjoy and appreciate a legend that has actual talent!
LOL! Gotta love a death metal band with humor! Also, epic drumming
My friend was convinced this was a drum machine because of the overuse of the triggers... although this guy is a machine its not automated.
This dude, is fucking insane. Badass solo, still enjoy it years later.
My favorite death metal drummer 🔥
lol that was awsome "Ok Pete. Can i Just hear your kick drum now."

Pete has always in my book slaughtered anyone I've had the chance to meet Pete in person can hardly understand him but his talent speaks for itself
On top of the fucking amazing drumming I think it's great that metal musicians can have a lighthearted sense of humor.
I remember hearin' It when I was 13 maybe 14 Years Old Without My Own Drumset, Now I'm Havin' It and My Own Band, still amazed what Pete done here, pure fuckin' masterpiece
This is about the fastest most precise drum solo I´ve ever heard... what the hell is wrong with that guy...
he just wanted to hear the kick drum for god sakes...oh wait this is morbid angel
"May i hear your kickdrum please"
*dun* *dun*... *solo
How the hell could anyone dislike this??
Probably people who are jealous of him and/or thinks he's overrated.
Because they can't do it 😂
that was brutal
this is why i fucking love morbid angel :)
Pete Sandoval carries the fucking entire band.
I wanted to SEE how it's played, NOT ONLY HEAR!
Uhm, it definitely sounds like it's done artificially... Sorry man...

Impossible the "20 years" thing. Death's career wasn't even 15 years old when Christy joined the band.
