    Getting over the shame of disappointing people freed me. I stopped being self sacrificial and pursued my happiness and taught my children the same. We don’t feel shame about not volunteering, leading, or not going to church. We prioritize ourselves. We are spiritual. Freedom is our #1 value. Breaking generational curses is the greatest gift I gave to myself and them.

    I screamed when Pry described her interactions with the Others. It's ALWAYS an interrogation! Now I just avoid eye contact so they cannot speak to me. (I'm in Mazatlan, Mexico) I think they are trying to figure out my financial status relative to theirs. LOLOL "Like how did you afford to be in the same place as me."

      Ouch working in financial institutions was very challenging & lots of pressure was shared by frustrated and highly educated professional black women who were overworked, very stressed, and overlooked continually for promotions & raises. Sista I met you in others as a certified career & life coach. Her story represents that of so many of our Sistas. So happy she gave up the “golden handcuffs” and reached her personal peace & freedom. ❤❤❤

    • @vienicestyles
      @vienicestyles หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Exactly! I never give them eye contact because that’s an invitation to speak to me. I act like I don’t see them. It works. I always turn my back to them as soon as I see them. If they override that, then I give them the old fashioned look like I don’t hear them and walk away. I refuse to let them ruin my vacation or time abroad.

    My Pastor called me everything but a child of God when I joined the Air Force because it was going to take me “away” from the Church. I was under the impression I was one of the “golden children” because I was a very compliant and obedient child. As an adult jumped from one church to the next thinking I was finding something better each time. Finally I have “deconstructed “ and moving out of the country helped me with that. Yes, church trauma is REAL!

    • @shannonlivingston8109
      @shannonlivingston8109 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Because you were compliant and faithful and you were no longer going to be “the faithful obedient church worker”that the church depended on, was the reason he was so angry. I know exactly how that feels, been there, done that and got the stories to tell it. I grew up in the church from about 7 years old,(I’m 64 years old)but I released myself about 10 years ago from church and traditional religion. I am a reinvented church girl on several levels AND ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT!!! I really desire to move abroad and Mexico is on the list!

    My brother-in-law and his wife went to a strict church where unmarried girls who got pregnant were required to stand before the church and apologize. You are very right, Stephanie, they did not require that of boys or men who got girls and women pregnant. Well, the pastor’s daughter got pregnant. People waited for her to apologize. She did not show up. Her dad apologized for her. I would be so through with a church like that anyway, but this would put me out the door. The sad thing is that women support this and pass this kind of shame and stigmatize onto onto other girls and women.

      Longsuffering is a fruit of the spirit (Ephesians 5:22)
      It is how we’re to interact in this world, not giving people what they give us, being hateful, spiteful, unforgiving, impatient and quick to speak and quick to anger (Galatians 4:2) living as Christ, who has so kindly and lovingly borne our own disgraceful sins and ugly burdens. It’s not easy .........AT ALL but that is what being transformed daily/ more and more into the likeness of Jesus Christ łooks like.😊

      SRL - Jesus already promised us that if we follow Him we WILL (not might or could possibly) have tribulation but to be of good cheer as HE has overcome the world (John 16:33)
      And The Word further says that ALL (not some of us but all) who seek tto live godly WILL suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12)
      These are promises not based on time or place or the age we are born in.
      Jesus, in life, was DESPISED. He was rejected. And, in death, He was whipped.... beaten beyond human recognition, stripped nàked and nailed to a cross.
      We won’t live a life of comfort as His followers. He said we wouldn’t. We are blessed not to live a life of misery and we are most grateful not to suffer as he did.
      We’re not escaping suffering in this life. He said it would be there and that He uses it for a purpose. We pray for grace to get through it. 😊

    Stephanie, I finally found my groove and niche. At. 63, I’m a grant writer entrepreneur. In less than 18 months, I’ve written 4 grants and they were all funded totaling 1.2 million for one nonprofit org. I do get paid while writing the grants, plus a bonus. I’m on my own, not having to clock in or be disrespected in the workplace. Recently, I was approached by someone who claim they can’t pay my contract price, yet prior to me presenting my contract, he bragged about the money he made, and how much he is worth on paper, but not liquid. He claim he can’t pay my contract price. This has been typical in the blk community that I circle.

I can relate tho about the Pastors, I have already left two churches. I really needed to hear some of the things mentioned in this conversation. Hello Family! Her story is my story-like many of us that grew up in the church. I am tired and am finally starting to focus on what I want. I realized that people, family included, focus on what they want and expect me to be there despite how tired I am. It’s my time now to focus on me and that includes focusing on getting out of the US.

    Replay That!! One of THE BEST videos you've ever done, Stephanie. This struck me so deeply, and as a totality of the depths of what you and Roshida, and others have really been speaking of, all this time. All aspects of the same avenue. The truth of it is about finding a place in the world where you are heard, seen, listened to, and appreciated, and even admired. And being able to, within yourself, allow yourself to be appreciated. Accept it without question, or doubt, or guilt. Burn the cape and just be! I love it!💃🏽🌼🌟

    Thank you so much Ms. Stephanie Perry ... following and subscribed! Ms. Pryl is the definition of going through the fire and coming through with extra resilience, grace, favor, beauty, spirit and strength. This is what will heal the world, but they want to squash that because we have that power. So. Be. It. "I'm thoo!" I love you all! ❤❤❤

    This was done so well.. very sensitive subject to far too many .. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾real talk in real time . Churches and their hypocrisy.
    Aside! Stephanie what do you use on your hair . Those coils reminds me of growing up in the 50’s early 60’s having our hair set the paper bag rollers. Made the best longest lasting curls . Your hair looks healthier & healthier every time I see a segment .
    Again thank you to your guest for being 100% transparent & so much positivity.💜🪽
