Thos driving missions were a pain in the ass. Took HOURS of practice to finally win the Toyota 7 and Jay Leno Tank car.

The most perfect fucking transition to ever exist.
Utterly quintessential American and totally perfect for the targeted audience. This was and IS a Car game for Car guys. And at even the top tier of the car world, the people there still want to cut loose from time to time. One of the best openings to a game of ANY Era. GT 5 and 6 were not able to ignite the HYPE factor this opening did for US audiences of the time.

@@rishiishere. moon over the castle- basically, this song is the anthem of gran turismo, and in the japanese version, it is the intro for almost all the games in the series(not this orchestra version). The other one is panama from van halen, great song. They even put the sound of eddie van halen's lamborghini miura in the middle of the song

Gamebit257 I remember seeing this when I was a kid and being floored by it. Like I stood in the middle of my room just watching and I remember totally my mom asking "Why are you standing there?"
Gran Torismo 2 then this.
GT2 and then GT4 and then a few of the Forza Horizons are good too.
GT2 was good. GT4 however kicked a whole different gear of Hype. GT3 was good we loved it to death. But it never felt complete. This mashing of songs generated so much hype on its own that people went nuts trying to get it. Its a feeling that was NEVER captured in the games before it or since. When The True GT7 finally drops, i pray its opening is at LEAST as good from a compositional standpoint as this one was.

When I saw this back in 2004, I thought to myself "Wow. How can video games ever get more realistic than today? It's impossible.".
Then, the PS3 came out. And now the PS4. It's honestly astonishing seeing these huge improvements in video games and thinking about the past.
But pc has been out since 1985
Honestly this game still holds up with its amazing graphics sound and design, well not amazing graphics, but graphics that were definitely ahead of its time
@@petergriffingaming6115 To be honest, Gran Turismo 4's graphics still holds up pretty well! Especially for a PS2 game. While the lighting doesn't look as good as the models of the vehicles and the environment, this game can still be hard to compare to the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 on the also upcoming PS5 graphically! The lighting is just a 1000x better on the PS5 than on the PS2. (Yes, GT7 has been officially announced just two days ago as of writing this comment)
AW_Tenderzツ yeah, the ability to run at 1080i 60fps is incredible, plus the lighting looks very good, which is something almost every older game cannot say

I started off my love for racing when GT3 first came out and also bought GT4 and Tourist Trophy(bike version of GT) ...after that I went to Forza 2, and all the Forzas to date, which seemed so much more fluid, but that doesn't mean I don't like the series where I found my passion

Great opening cutscene! This has to be my favorite opening cutscene of North American NTSC Gran Turismo series video games because it has fantastic music!
The golden eras of Gran Turismo. This is what GT has and Forza doesn't, nostalgia. Time where graphics and brightness and premium vs quality and all that shit didn't matter. It was all about the driving.
The game already pushed the PS2 to its limits, that's why people like it so much. GT4 is one of the heaviest games to emulate on PCSX2, requires a quite good PC to run in HD.

So much freaking nostalgia! I remembered back when i was in 1st grade, when i come home from school, i run straight to my room and fire up GT4. That was the bomb back in my time. I feel so old now that i'm 14 and it's been nearly 8 years and i'm a freshman in high school. Time flies so fast... Wish i could go back.

Juan Jimenez I'm 17 as a senior in high school and I had this back when I was in 1st grade and did the same thing as you man.. although, It's too bad my disc is messed up since it has been through a lot since then and is kinda scratchy but I loved this game and I'm definitely going to buy a new one for sure sometime soon.. Nothing compared to this intro and how the gameplay was in it's time which was around the time it was released when I had it which was when I was 4 so I got it pretty early.. But yeah there was nothing like it and it was my one and only Gran Turismo I ever played and probably ever will play since I never even knew this game had a story since I knew some cars were missing (Example: Falken Skyline R34)... So I definitely have some exploring to do when I reclaim this masterpiece! Sorry this was long but that's my story 😋..
Finishing every race in the Extreme races was the total endgame for me. Worst part is after near 6 years of owning this game, the percentage is only 37.

I remember getting this game on Christmas Day, in 2005. I was five years old then. I've been playing the game ever since. Although I still have the game right beside me, this intro makes me want to cry, in a good way. It's just so beautiful. This game forever changed the racing game genre and it was a HUGE part of my childhood. I used to get so excited whenever I dominated a tournament and I hear the god-like drum-roll of a new car being an addition to my garage. I still do get excited. Yesterday, I got the Nissan GT-R LM Road Going Version. It was awesome.
+HeAlone I agree. I started with Gran Turismo 3 (I was barely three at the time we bought it.) Just looking at this reminds me of all the hours and hours I'd spend playing this jewel. I still have my PS2 attached to a Coby flat screen TV just to play these games. Oh, and Star Wars Battlefront 2. (Still better.) All these years, and yet it still looks better than some games today. (Split Second, I am looking at you!)

Vengo a este video un par de veces al año solo para recordar las horas de diversión que me dejó este magnifico juego cuando era niño. Solía jugar con mi papá y mis hermanos por horas. Una carrera decidía quien lavaría los platos de la comida :,) en verdad se jugaba la vida en este juego.
Los juegos han mejorado mucho desde entonces y seguro han sobrepasado al gt4 pero este siempre será mi favorito porque fue mi infancia.
Hoy ya no tengo a mi viejo amigo ps2, se lo regalé a un primo pequeño hace varios años porque yo ya no lo usaba. Ahora me arrepiento :( Pero aún consevo mi memory card con gt4 tal vez al 90%, la conservo como un recuerdo de los momentos más felices de mi vida.
Ahora uno de mis sueños mas grandes es conseguir una ps2, una copia de gt4, conectarlo a la tv y enchufar la memory card para termina lo que empecé hace años y que una vez más se me erice la piel al escuchar Moon over the castle y luego romperme el cuello al ritmo de Panama.

Probably the most masterfully crafted intro in the series, strategically showcasing everything the game brought new to the table at the time: photo-mode renderings, more diverse track environments, animated pit crews, impressive track roster, and a collection of cars so massive that even today few games have come close/surpassed it. Things like that in addition to having the white Ford GT race car being a prominent icon in the game (on the box art, on the Mode Select screen, in the background of Arcade Mode, all over the intro movie, having the number 4 on its side, and being the prize car for the game's first major event) helped GT4 secure an identity, something that every installment since doesn't really have in my opinion.
GT-3 and 4 both had such an identity. The Viper in GT-3 was a beast, and that intro music by Lenny Kravitz was a banger.
RIP Eddie Van Halen. You will be missed. Love "Panama". GT4 introduced me to you in the year 2004.

This intro made me cry. The first racing game I ever played was GT4 when I was 5. I finished that and got 1, 2 and 3 off my uncle, as he was a big fan of GT but he didn't have the time anymore. I'm only 14, but since I picked up GT4, I can't wait to get in a car and drive
GT holds a big place in my heart, and it is the only reason I refuse to buy an Xbox. Shame PD keeps ruining the series by monetizing it.

I fell in love with driving when I was about 13 or 14 years old with the release of the original Gran Turismo 1. Truth be told, the knowledge I gained from GT - learning about traction, braking, and center of gravity - actually helped me avoid a couple of accidents when I was a new driver without without much real experience. Just be sure you dont get overconfident and drive unsafely, and your pre-driving experience with GT will be a great plus and a pleasant lifelong memory.

Back in a time when i didn't care for graphics or physics, this was what powered me to play games when i was a small child. Seeing this now puts tears in my eyes because I've never heard a stronger intro in any other car game ever, and reminds me of the awesome time i had with my friends playing it. Then when I was around 11 or 12, my mom sold most of the games i played on PS2, and i would never see it again. These videos are all i have left. thank you for giving me the greatest gift of all, a god tier game
