  • Using links we can model Beams Supported at the Column Edges in ETABS. Ignore the mistake in sentence due to faster approach. (The sentence should be ''I didn't define beam & column section'' at the end of the tutorial)

sir , well how can we make diffrent level of slab at 1 beam with rigid link. i made many research but i didnt find any information

What if we use insertion point, do we still need to use rigid links?

Why use column instead using series of walls to avoid misconnection of structural elements

Sir, I would like to clarify a question.
What is the difference between using link-type elements or using offset with the function insertion point for modeling beams and columns that don't have the same axes?
    Thanks

I haven't tried this but thinking about how FEM works I believe that there's no big difference with the right conditions. You are connecting the element to the same node. These "infinite" rigid links don't deform, so all the load "traveling" in beams will end in the column joint but I have my doubts about the eccentricity because you can assign length to link objects. I know that when you use insertion point the software generates internal constraints to perform the analysis, changing the loads. For example, if you use an insertion point on a simply supported (pin-pin) beam, using the inferior edge of the beam as the insertion point, it will generate a negative moment in support. This happens because internal constraints in this model are similar to a beam supported in columns(moment frame). If you want to answer this question you need to try 3 models and have the formulation of the finite element under consideration. The first model should be made using the "link" elements from the video, the second with "offsets" and the third with Shell-type elements. You must take into account that Frame elements use the Timoshenko theory and that shells can use the Kirchkoff or Mindlin-Reissner formulation. Compare and interpretate the results. Maybe if you have energy and time you can create a fourth model using 3D finite element(Solid).

I forgot to tell you to check the period and modal forms, I don't know how it would change the response.

I created the fisrt 2 models, with the same results. I leave the others to you.

The option of using offset with an insertion point (cardinal point) is dedicated to connecting the members at certain points only (edge, centre, top centre, top right....etc) but a link option may be used to connect members that are intersected at any point.

In Architectural, if beam comes near on the edge of column, (not on the centroid of the column ) , in Etabs we take it on the center of column .. sir kindly tell which is correct practice center to center or to follow Architectural in Etabs , ??

    • @PEDROPEDRO-iu8rl
      @PEDROPEDRO-iu8rl 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The load is always applied to the centroid of the column. What happens is that links are able to transfer the load from the beam to the centroid of the column, since they are rigid and fixed in all directions, they. At the same time these rigid links define the theoretical lenght of the beams wich influences their displacements.

@@PEDROPEDRO-iu8rl if i have a beam that is going through the edge of the column and in etabs i have to define beams centroid to centroid of column .but does that maintain accuracy as it is in architectural design

    • @omarbhati5038

@@PEDROPEDRO-iu8rl so in other word keeping the beam on the centroid that is centre of the column is also right .. better avoid the link system as the load is only going to be transferred to the centre of column ?

    Thanks for the tutorial sir,
Curious about that does it change period of the structure
Made a model structure according to your doing and values of periods are more than expected
Is this my mistake or depend on this application
For more help if you please, pleasure to share my sample model via mail or etc.
