Man, hearing about you struggling to NOT work to picture is so different from how I feel. Scoring to picture has been the bane of my existence haha! I’m much more used to trailer and production music, I think. I’d like to learn how to work to picture though. It seems like a great skill to have

I’m so bad at it haha
Honestly, I’ve gotten better at it in the last year or so as I’ve had a little more opportunity to work on pop songs and other things that are more standalone music type stuff. It’s helped open my mind and given me an excuse to write outside of context or picture. But yeah, definitely something I’ll keep working on! Let’s both get good at both!

Hi Jesse, appreciate your honesty talking about this. I immediately think people today who can be free to do music fulltime have some sort of trust fund or inheritance. Looks like you made your transistion with hard work which to me is courageious and admirable. Financial fear is a real music buzz killer for me anyway. Wish you best moving forward.

That’s incredibly kind of you to say. It continues to be hard, but worth it! It’d be impossible without the support of wife, I should say. She’s always worked herself and understood the crazy nature of freelance composing haha. But yeah, I never would have thought I’d get here. So incredibly thankful.

I haven't even figured it all out, to even make enough, so the fact that you have, congratulations! I need to work on creating a remote studio.

Hey,can you tell me how do you remote work online, are there any specific sites where they search for music composers and how do I apply for these kind of remote work??

I WISH it was that easy. Unfortunately, no. It’s all traditional networking (meeting people, word of mouth, having a compelling online presence, putting out good work that speaks for itself, being findable, etc). There are some sites like that, but they rarely post composer jobs and when they do, the applications are over saturated and they almost never pay. Best advice I can give is make meaningful connections with filmmakers, other composers, creatives, etc. Even if it’s online. Follow them, talk to them, connect with them. It’s a big part.

Hi. I'm new here. Do you have any degree in music or may be you've completed a course or you are completely self-taught?

      Hi there! Welcome.
I did a classical composition music degree in college. So I learned a lot of the basic craft of composition/orchestration there. All the film scoring stuff has been learning on the job!
