    Great review as usual, Aaron. Thank you. This is personally one of my favorite PDM's (along with Herod, Carlisle and Oajan) and to my nose this has a delicious caramel note that keeps me sniffing my wrist all day. 👍😎

    • @KunaiKrazy
      @KunaiKrazy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to scrub off Oajan. It smelled too spicy and sharp like a cinnamon and incense concentrated bomb. Kalan smells like sweet bell pepper and is a hard pass. Pegasus is too sweet but the Exclusive takes that edge off and I can wear thatthat. Layton and Greenley are just plain enjoyable. I can use Greenley as a signature warm weather fragrance easily.

    Something I have noticed with habdan and other parfum de marlys is they suffered from reformulation :( habdan was really good but when I smelt the newer version I really did not like it and they smelt quite different. The way to tell is to look at the bottom of the bottle. batch codes with 7 numbers is 2020 plus and that’s the big year of reformulation. Any codes with 6 digets are 2019 and under. The first digit is what year it was made for example if it starts with 7 it’s made in 2017 and so on. Also I heard 2018 had batch inconsistencies due to lack of proper materials . I own a 2020 Layton and it is significantly more vanilla dominant then the older ones. I also own a 2016 Galloway and its a lot smoother then the current formulation and has a real citrus top note.

  • @santeripe
    @santeripe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    As Parfums de Marly reformulated their fragrances this year to remove Lilial, they've also dropped their concentration and diluted their naturals for more synthetics. Old bottles used to read Vol 78% at the bottom. New ones read Vol 82%, which means only 18% of the liquid is water + additives + perfume oil. I have EDTs more concentrated than that. Layton performs better now, but smells like a shell of its old self. Not sure if the choice was driven by performance complaints or greed.

    I had been debating getting either Habdan or Althair for my partner and they’re both SUCH a different vibe. Habdan is “dark mode” and complex filled with contrasting notes. At one point I even got a hint of hot curry from it (yum!). Althair was “light mode” and easy, what you see is what you get type of scent. Choosing between the two was like choosing between dinner and dessert. You kind of want both right? In the end I bought Althair because it’s a gift and I think “light mode” is easy for others to like. I think I’ll leave the “dark mode” choice to purchase as a couple later because I worry I’ll get it wrong by myself. You’re spot on that Habdan is likely to be someone’s signature scent or not at all. That was exactly my worry to buy as a gift before I even saw your review.

    Love your reviews and approach, and only now finding your PdM reviews. Watched your Oajan review before this one. I find it interesting that Oajan IS correctly considered to be the apple pie vibe of the house, but Habdan is actually the one with apple as an actual note, it's actually not in Oajan. I love and prefer Oajan for pure comfort and casual hanging out in cold weather. I kind of view Habdan as Oajan's rich daddy. Maybe more of a suede-ish apple pie baked in a middle eastern oven. Signature and date frag. It rocks. Respect your opinion on this frag!

    I felt the exact same response on initial spray of this fragrance, it was that suede thing with the clean core and incense floating around it. I didnt love it and agreed it needed sweetening. But…. As time passes with this it really evolves, and that clean top note fades to the back and this cinnamon ambery sweetness sort of emerges out for me. I do think other perfums de marly scents just instantly please me more but this one is quite intriguing with time.

There both rock star Fragrances for sure!....to me anyway!!One thing i agree with you about is the fact they are probably charging at the top of the scale...Meaning they are getting top dollar for what they could get for these fragrances!!! It's ok for me. Stays quite long on me but after about 5 hrs become skin scent. On clothes it stays for even 2-3 days.
    I bough this but will not keep it. Would be nice gift to my brother.
    I love woody, smoky, frankincense, myrhh frags, but here I pick up to much sweetness which I am not big fan of. I definitely get saffron and resin in opening. Unfortunately on dry down for me carmel apple is dominant.
    I have Issey Miyake Pour Homme Noir Ambre, which despite having vanilla and Tonka in the base is way less sweet then this one. In fact this is one of my best frags impossible to get for reasonable price today.
    Just because it has more woody/spice notes then vanilla, Tonka aren't that dominant. Probably it's also skin chemistry.
    I would love you to do some Issey Miyake reviews as in my opinion this is very underated house.

    Very fair review :D did you get an apple or other fruity note? To me it was quite a heavy, but still wearable oriental.

    Want to find something from the house that you'll dislike? Try Hamdani. It's like wet mud mixed with vicks vapor rub. Or Nisean that's like old man mixed with dry patchouli.
    But on my skin, Habdan's incense note stays pretty prominent for the life of the scent on my skin.

      Sorry but Nisean is just misunderstood... and underrated

    This fragrance didn't do it for me even though the notes are to die for.
    It smells wonderful but it doesn't last on my skin only when i layer it with Nishane's Ani.

    Come on Aaron 8 of 10 🥺
    - I will not be surprised if rated again after a while 10 of 10 ‘cause PDM house is making phenomenal perfumes.
    - I suggest to keep eye on : RÊVE DE CASHMERE by VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, you will hug yourself while wearing it 😀
    Thanks 🌹

    Question about your NYC event: I just can’t make it that day (conflicting schedule). Could I buy a ticket & still get your oakmoss fragrance? Or, do you really want to save the tickets for networking in person? Thank you!

    Aaron i saw that you apreciate the old Kouros. Nothing sweet and syropee about it. Habdan is a rather sweet fragrance and you say that you wanted it to be more sweet? I thing perfumes de marly makes sweet like candy perfums to indulge a soft generation more into passiveness and softness.

    I bought a sample of Hamdani (a lesser known PdM scent, probably for a reason) and sorry, but absolutely NOT... The opening was like nothing I've ever smelled before and not in a good way. I wonder what would be your opinion about that fragrance ;)
