? The Doctor's age in appearance, in relation to human terms, is irrelevant to how old he actually is, obviously. The point is, she should have known that he couldn't have known about this story in advance, but naturally I suppose it sounds more interesting in the episode.
@@yannatoko9898 I feel like she doesn’t see the faces of the doctor, which is why she didn’t realize 10 was too early, she just knows who the doctor is and all the faces blur together

Thats- the whole point.
Steven Moffat had planned this back to front style of relationship from the very start. He knew in 2008 he was to become the next head writer and show runner when Russell departed, and so he set the foundations for the character of River, appearing with Tennant in the Library episodes of season four.
"The image of an Angel becomes an Angel."
You understand now that Sally Sparrow gave the Doctor a picture of an Angel and he kept it in his pocket....
It's almost like the writer for this episode doesn't care about canon or something.

@@andrewfuller3319 Nope. The way the Doctor figured it out in the episode was because he noticed that there weren't any sketches of the angels in the notebook. The in-universe rule, according to this episode, is "any image of an Angel". It explicitly does not have to be a "live" image.

@@andrewfuller3319 I have no idea what would happen if the angel is defeated. I don't think the episode established any rules on the matter either.
If the writing were competent, then these various worldbuilding questions would be explored in a follow-up story specifically written to figure this out. Just like how Isaac Asimov wrote a whole series of speculative fiction stories exploring his 3 laws of robotics, and as many varied ways things could go wrong as he could imagine.

What I really like with the whole River and Doctor meet up at different points in their history is that is makes sense in a way. Two time travelers who do not travel together would obviously have run ins with one another out of sequence. Imagine if this was like that with the Master, back in the Classic Who days

It's easy to get confused about River and The Doctor's relationship because they always meet out of order. Here, he knows her only from their time in the Library. That hasn't happened for her yet, but lots of other meetings have.
River Song is my favorite.

What a lot of people don't know is, that this was actually the first episode Matt Smith recorded for season 5, They wanted someone familiar so they invited Alex and made the subject the angels.
They mention the Byzantium in silence in the library. So this was long planned.
River told The Doctor his name that is why he trusted her in the Library.

I can't help thinking if River knew it would be the last time she meets Amy.
It wasn’t the last time River met her. She mentions the crash of the Byzantium to Amy many episodes later and comments how young Amy looked. This River is very early in her time line. You can watch the episodes in the order of her time line and it changes your whole perspective.
You have to watch all the time with river song, she has met the doctor several times, she jumps along his timeline, although this is the first time she has met him as the 11th doctor, she has met lots of times after and before that…. Wibbly wobbly times whimey
the angels are so shy they even freeze when you see them :)
One thing we learned from River's first appearances was she was trusted by the Doctor enough for him to tell him his real name, which, as Tennant said, he would only do for one reason, that being they were married. True, it wasn't explicitly stated there and then, but the theory wa definitely borne out over Smith's run.

After river is all done with later on in the show (it’s not a spoiler because we all know she’s not going to be in the show forever) but when she’s done with you can actually work out rivers timeline and it makes real sense when you look at her timeline in order. It’s hard to order her timeline but there really is a timeline.

A little meta giggle, river accidently kneed him in the nuts in that opening scene.
The twist about the statues is still one of my favorite moments in Doctor Who. Just incredibly well done, proper chills everytime.

Seeing these early episodes with River and Amy, knowing what I know now, can be enough to make your heart break. Imagine spending time with your mother, who has no idea who you are. Fun fact: when this episode first aired in the UK there was a lot of backlash because a bbc advertising banner for ‘the graham norton show’ came up on screen during matts final speech which took up most of the bottom screen and took us away from the cliffhanger. It’s safe to say the bbc have since learnt from that mistake

This episode has been described many times as the 'Aliens' to Blink's 'Alien'. Whereas Blink was much more claustrophobic and horror-centric, The Time Of Angels two-parter is much more action-oriented with the horror elements dialled down just a bit. Still some classic moments though! The 'Why don't the statues have two heads?' reveal REALLY got me when I first saw it :D
