Bede became a gym leader Leon actually got *more* sponsors thanks to Battle Tower and the rematches (he ain't going broke any time soon) Marnie became a gym leader Piers went to do music Rose and Olenda are still doing the energy thing just without the evil space dragon deal In fact, Hop is the only career you officially destroyed. He became an assistant professor and even then talk-no-jutsu'd a legend into a pokeball. So it's a good start.
Actually, I almost got destroyed by this battle. I didn't have any good match typing and struggled to finish the battle. It was a weird situation because I steamrolled most everything before and after that battle. I did wing a couple of gyms to fair success, but wasn't worried I was going to fail like the Bede battle especially since I didn't know how recently I had saved the game before facing him having autosave turned off.
I know she meant pink as a feeling or whatever, but I always found it funny that Opal chose Bede over my character because he was more pink. I was completely decked out in pink, hell my hair was a light pink color
I was in the same situation. Hell pink is even my favourite color. XD But I'm not into fairies (even if I like some of them, like Gardevoir, Primarina, Mimikyu, Alolan Ninetales. I hate the type anyway) I prefer psychic and water types. Maybe that's why she couldn't feel my pink. XD
Now, During post game, if you invite Bede to the champion cup, Bede has a Sylveon. Remember, this means he needed an Eevee to a Sylveon. To get a Slyveon, you need your Eevee to have a fairy type move and you need to get it to three hearts in friendship. This means Bede loved his Eevee enough to evolve it. Or Opal just gave a Slyveon to him-
Maybe she gave him an Eevee, to test his "pink" out some more, thus he evolved the Eevee into a Slyveon through love. That's sounds really nice for a theory actuallly. I really like it!

Can we just talk about the fact that in his final battle, Bede, the “unfriendly” rival, has Hatterene as his G-Max “ace” Pokémon, which is female only, while Marnie, the friendly rival, has Grimmsnarl as her G-Max “ace” Pokémon, which is a male-only line. Not only that, but Grimmnsnarl is all about strong emotions, while Hatterene suppresses and attacks them. They’re direct opposites. Genius! EDIT: I’ve realized something else. Bede’s Hatterene is a female only, fairy type witch Pokémon. Bede has a person in his life like that... a lady fairy type specialist some call “the wizard.” Is Hatterene paralleled with Opal? Similarity, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl is a male only, dark type Pokémon with lots and lots of hair. Piers, similarly, is a male dark type specialist with lots of hair. Game freak really went all out for these characters...
This game for me has the BEST rival themes. Hop, Bede, and Marnie all get absolute bangers as themes and I enjoy every battle with them tenfold because of their themes.
True. I actually feel very bad for Hough (don’t know how his name is spelled from B2/W2) and Gladion already that their themes are almost dethroned by all the rivals’ themes in Sword and Shield.
Gen 8 has the best characters and gym leaders. Coming from a Gen. 5 stan Unova did paved the way for what we now expect from characters. I love how Galar took what we loved about Gens 1-7 and worked it’s way into it. Wanted a friendly rival like Brendan/May/Cheren/Bianca? Go got it Wanted a lot of rivals like XY? You got it. Wanted a rude rival like silver and Blue? You got it. Wanted a rival with a “evil” team behind em? You got it. Gen 8 hands down best generation of rivals and gym leaders.
And then theres the neutral rivals The only one I can think about right now is that spiky navy-haired kid from black and white I never knew his canonical name as I named him Tucker after a friend of mine

Id say the only other track that compares is the red battle theme from silver/gold. Even if you dont like the game you have to admit it has the best soundtrack, especially Marnies theme, gym battle theme, and the Weald
Ive never been too big of a fan of pokemons music, theres only a few in past games i really really love. But sword and shield changes this. Bedes theme is SO catchy its earcandy i cant stop listening. Such a good soundtrack
So, here's the thing: I agree and disagree at the same time. The entire soundtrack is AMAZING, but there isn't one song that just stands out as being especially good. S/M had Vast Poni Canyon, B/W had Driftveil City, etc. I guess either Marnie's battle theme or the gym leader battle theme would be this gen's, but they're about the same quality as the rest of the tracks.
@@tear959 maybe, but there are still a lot of Pokémons that aren’t Fairy/Psychic like Morgrem or Shiinotic. Another detail is that some of his initial Pokémons are still where he becomes a Gym Leader (Haterenne and Rapidash for example, being Fairy/Psychic)

I love how most battle themes in this game are just pure hype and adrenaline. It fits with what Pokemon battling in Galar is all about. More so than in any other region, Pokemon battling in Galar is about sport, hype and epicness

Honestly I really liked bede. He started as a massive twat and slowly became more likable as he starts to realize that the player is a fucking awesome trainer. He also ends up as a pretty good fairy type gym leader.

The melody/climax comes from the 5th generation's PWT final tournament battle theme. As soon as I recognized it, I was amazed because it's such an amazing tune but nobody really remembers the PWT.

The really cool thing they did is how accurate the Hatenna line is for Bede's whole arc. Hatenna and Hattrem are pure Psychic types, which he has when he was a Psychic type trainer. And then he becomes a Fairy user, and Hatterene gains a Fairy type. That little detail is obvious, but amazing at the same time.

This dude. I love him, and I love how he goes from Giant Ayusshole to Cute Fairy Boi Gym Leader. He also has the funniest cutscene in the game, and I have a major soft spot for characters with family issues. And the FLOOF HAIR of course
I know I'm reaching like hell here, but I noticed something the other day while listening to this: 0:58 has always been my favorite part of the song because of how it sounds like the instrument is _squealing_ trying to play those notes, like the amount of effort behind that playing is _insane,_ and that made me realize that that part is actually almost fitting for Bede as a character. An instrument going solo, and trying _so damn hard_ to play as hard as it can, that it _squeals_ and almost falls apart under the pressure it's putting on itself. You can _hear_ the melody it's _trying_ to play there, but it goes so hard that it slurs together in a way that sounds almost painful.
Maybe it’s just somewhere in his pc, I know they didn’t want to show Hateena yet but from fighting against him it’s clear that’s his signature Pokémon and it gets gigantamax.

Psychic types are weak to Dark, representing the darkness and hate that led Bede's life. Fairy types are resistant to Dark, representing how he overcame that darkness and became a better person by the end.

@@MrJonathon08 Considering she mentioned "I wondered why you wanted to borrow the charirman's Copperajah" it sounds to me like he just used his ties and their trust to get what he wanted by tracking down what he could for his mission. Rose wanted his help without a doubt and neither of them could afford to keep him on their agenda with that bad rep to his name. I'd chalk it down to raw arrogance and a matter of ends justify the means. I would've expected him to go "But you said-" if he were really in the dark about something.
Bede's theme is objectively a masterpiece. It is a hard theme to put your finger on the rhythm at first, since it's all over the place. Bede? He's all over the place, as a confused child who wants to take down anyone with brute force. Just like him, this theme gets thrown into your face. It is so odd sounding, that it fits him, an odd character. It sounds mean and toxic, just as his personality. It has a lot of slap bass in the background like sinnoh and gen 8 have constantly (but gen 8 really went above and beyond with it), giving it that sound of importance. But it's not. It's pretending, just as Bede is pretending not to lose and "letting you win" and how he is the strongest challenger. It is also ridiculously edgy, almost being a throwback to gen 2 for it's jerk rival Silver. It's a stuck-up theme for a stuck-up character, and while I won't listen to it on it's own, I appreciate how well it works for him, and that it's in the game.
It could be also that he wants to win the Gym Challenge too, because part of his theme actually remixes the PWT finals theme from Black and White 2, and Galar's Gym Challenge finals are held in a similar way to that. Coincidence?
Kinda sad Bede didn't get a "Final Battle" remix like Hop and Marnie did. Would have been cool to hear an even better version of this with the stadium chants Maybe it's a reflection of Bede's character arc. Hop and Marnie both gained fans during the gym challenge that cheered for them at the finals. Poor Bede has no-one to cheer for him. Except Opal I guess lol
Bede is such a cool rival. The only problem is that we don’t see enough of him, after Opal ‘kidnaps’ him, we don’t see him until the championships. I would say that the reasons why he’s a total jerk are: The fact that he didn’t have a stable childhood, being an orphan and getting into fights, getting endorsed and becoming overconfident, getting disowned and probably you as the trainer made him even more salty. The fact that he overcomes his past and becomes the Ballonlea gym leader is pretty cool. Hop and Bede have brilliant character development that goes unnoticed.
I'm just saying. We got Hop in Isle of Armor. If we DON'T get Bede in the Crown Tundra I will explode like that of a microwave potato that was not stabbed beforehand. Steaming and angry.

It just hit me. I wondered why Bede's theme didn't change in the last fight why him like everyone else's did (including more of the crowds chants and stuff). I think it might be because unlike the others there's a chance at that point he has no fans cheering for him (likely because of what he did in Stow-on-Side). Which is too bad because I would have loved to see a 2nd version of his theme.
Yeah, and that's honestly sad. Plus at the end of the game where he almost sacrifices his role as a trainer, that's when people cheer. Honestly, Bede's a great character, GameFreak did him kina dirty tbh.
Luckily for me, I find gym leader bede pretty damn tempting to eat. Especially if I have the room in my stomach for him, I’ll think about eating him up rather than actually dealing with him or his Pokémon
I'm glad that they finally added another rival to the series that isn't nice or "I'm your friend so I'll encourage and heal you". It's much more fun to fight someone like Gary Oak or "You suck and I'm better because I'm the popular trainer and I don't care about your pokemon"

I was in the same situation. Hell pink is even my favourite color. XD But I'm not into fairies (even if I like some of them, like Gardevoir, Primarina, Mimikyu, Alolan Ninetales. I hate the type anyway) I prefer psychic and water types. Maybe that's why she couldn't feel my pink. XD

Now, During post game, if you invite Bede to the champion cup, Bede has a Sylveon. Remember, this means he needed an Eevee to a Sylveon. To get a Slyveon, you need your Eevee to have a fairy type move and you need to get it to three hearts in friendship. This means Bede loved his Eevee enough to evolve it. Or Opal just gave a Slyveon to him-
Maybe she gave him an Eevee, to test his "pink" out some more, thus he evolved the Eevee into a Slyveon through love. That's sounds really nice for a theory actuallly. I really like it!

Can we just talk about the fact that in his final battle, Bede, the “unfriendly” rival, has Hatterene as his G-Max “ace” Pokémon, which is female only, while Marnie, the friendly rival, has Grimmsnarl as her G-Max “ace” Pokémon, which is a male-only line. Not only that, but Grimmnsnarl is all about strong emotions, while Hatterene suppresses and attacks them. They’re direct opposites. Genius!
EDIT: I’ve realized something else. Bede’s Hatterene is a female only, fairy type witch Pokémon. Bede has a person in his life like that... a lady fairy type specialist some call “the wizard.” Is Hatterene paralleled with Opal?
Similarity, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl is a male only, dark type Pokémon with lots and lots of hair. Piers, similarly, is a male dark type specialist with lots of hair.

This game for me has the BEST rival themes. Hop, Bede, and Marnie all get absolute bangers as themes and I enjoy every battle with them tenfold because of their themes.
True. I actually feel very bad for Hough (don’t know how his name is spelled from B2/W2) and Gladion already that their themes are almost dethroned by all the rivals’ themes in Sword and Shield.

Gen 8 has the best characters and gym leaders. Coming from a Gen. 5 stan Unova did paved the way for what we now expect from characters. I love how Galar took what we loved about Gens 1-7 and worked it’s way into it.

Ive never been too big of a fan of pokemons music, theres only a few in past games i really really love. But sword and shield changes this. Bedes theme is SO catchy its earcandy i cant stop listening. Such a good soundtrack
So, here's the thing: I agree and disagree at the same time. The entire soundtrack is AMAZING, but there isn't one song that just stands out as being especially good. S/M had Vast Poni Canyon, B/W had Driftveil City, etc. I guess either Marnie's battle theme or the gym leader battle theme would be this gen's, but they're about the same quality as the rest of the tracks.

I love how most battle themes in this game are just pure hype and adrenaline. It fits with what Pokemon battling in Galar is all about. More so than in any other region, Pokemon battling in Galar is about sport, hype and epicness

The really cool thing they did is how accurate the Hatenna line is for Bede's whole arc. Hatenna and Hattrem are pure Psychic types, which he has when he was a Psychic type trainer. And then he becomes a Fairy user, and Hatterene gains a Fairy type. That little detail is obvious, but amazing at the same time.

I know I'm reaching like hell here, but I noticed something the other day while listening to this: 0:58 has always been my favorite part of the song because of how it sounds like the instrument is _squealing_ trying to play those notes, like the amount of effort behind that playing is _insane,_ and that made me realize that that part is actually almost fitting for Bede as a character. An instrument going solo, and trying _so damn hard_ to play as hard as it can, that it _squeals_ and almost falls apart under the pressure it's putting on itself. You can _hear_ the melody it's _trying_ to play there, but it goes so hard that it slurs together in a way that sounds almost painful.
0:45 I really like because it shows Bede's raw emotion to be noticed and do better. 🔥

Bede's theme is objectively a masterpiece. It is a hard theme to put your finger on the rhythm at first, since it's all over the place. Bede? He's all over the place, as a confused child who wants to take down anyone with brute force. Just like him, this theme gets thrown into your face. It is so odd sounding, that it fits him, an odd character. It sounds mean and toxic, just as his personality. It has a lot of slap bass in the background like sinnoh and gen 8 have constantly (but gen 8 really went above and beyond with it), giving it that sound of importance. But it's not. It's pretending, just as Bede is pretending not to lose and "letting you win" and how he is the strongest challenger. It is also ridiculously edgy, almost being a throwback to gen 2 for it's jerk rival Silver. It's a stuck-up theme for a stuck-up character, and while I won't listen to it on it's own, I appreciate how well it works for him, and that it's in the game.
It could be also that he wants to win the Gym Challenge too, because part of his theme actually remixes the PWT finals theme from Black and White 2, and Galar's Gym Challenge finals are held in a similar way to that. Coincidence?

Maybe it's a reflection of Bede's character arc. Hop and Marnie both gained fans during the gym challenge that cheered for them at the finals. Poor Bede has no-one to cheer for him.

Bede is such a cool rival. The only problem is that we don’t see enough of him, after Opal ‘kidnaps’ him, we don’t see him until the championships.
I would say that the reasons why he’s a total jerk are:
The fact that he didn’t have a stable childhood, being an orphan and getting into fights, getting endorsed and becoming overconfident, getting disowned and probably you as the trainer made him even more salty.
The fact that he overcomes his past and becomes the Ballonlea gym leader is pretty cool. Hop and Bede have brilliant character development that goes unnoticed.
I'm just saying. We got Hop in Isle of Armor. If we DON'T get Bede in the Crown Tundra I will explode like that of a microwave potato that was not stabbed beforehand. Steaming and angry.

It just hit me. I wondered why Bede's theme didn't change in the last fight why him like everyone else's did (including more of the crowds chants and stuff). I think it might be because unlike the others there's a chance at that point he has no fans cheering for him (likely because of what he did in Stow-on-Side). Which is too bad because I would have loved to see a 2nd version of his theme.
Yeah, and that's honestly sad. Plus at the end of the game where he almost sacrifices his role as a trainer, that's when people cheer. Honestly, Bede's a great character, GameFreak did him kina dirty tbh.
