I got a pocket holster for my p365. While I know it's a longer draw time, it's far more comfortable for long drives or sitting. If I need to, I keep an IWB holster in my car that I usually use at the 4 o'clock position.

Urban Carry has been a great carry system for me for many years. One great benefit is that no matter what you are wearing, the muscle memory is exactly the same each and every time. I have an LCP and a Sig P365 that are setup with the Urban Carry.

I wear basketball shorts 98% of the time. Pocket carry works great with a pocket holster. Something like a 380 Taurus Spectrum and you can easily forget it's even in there. A SCCY 9mm is more noticeable but at 15 OZ is still very comfortable. Sitting down in a car sometimes the holster will slide back so you just need to guide it as you're sitting down to prevent that. I can comfortably pocket carry a 40 S&W M&PC also. You always know it's there, but it's comfortable. I can do a 3 mile walk with it no problem also.

The 4'o clock confuses me because you have to reach quite a bit farther back with your arm, so I usually do 3'o clock, which is more parallel and the gun is more concealable.
When sitting in the car you notice a lot of weird discomfort from the different positions of appendix to hip and even the back with a gun or knife. I use horizontal draw for small knife in front waist with the buckle to the 2 or 10 o clock position, and multiple sheaths in vertical position elsewhere on the belt if you want more draw options for outdoor use. I prefer pulling it downward so the sheath needs to be placed higher up the belt, not lower, or the tip (bottom) of the sheath digs into your back if you're sitting in a chair or driving.
Many people may not consider these weird ideas of placing sheaths or holsters as I would like its done in movies, but for us who do bother to experiment, its good to know where the best or most comfortable/doable positions are for knives and guns (or other tools). It's good to experiment different positioning of belts/straps, sheaths and holsters for weapons or tools for survival, outdoor camping or precaution, or for self-defense or war.
also putting knives behind your back in sheaths isn't as hard as you might think. your brain and muscle memory will recall just fine.

A long time ago I was hit by a car and had permanent back damage. I could not carry more than 30 oz on my belt unless I wore suspenders. Recently my 16 oz LCR 38 + 5 spare rounds has become too heavy with the other stuff I normally carry. When I can I prefer a vest with inside pockets. The vest will accommodate my LCR or my Shield or I can belt carry the firearm and load the vest with the other junk. Summertime the vest is too warm and I have to transition to a pocket pistol. Sticky/Ramora holsters work but I am back to weight limits. My current solution is a Keltec P32, 7+1 and a 10 round spare mag. Total weight is 14 oz. Ruger needs to bring the LCP2 out in 32 ACP. More rounds, less recoil and more reliable than 22lr.

I carry at 2 o'clock and I have my IWB holster set for a forward cant. This makes the muzzle point outside my leg when seated. I can easily carry a CZ P09 with a threaded barrel because the length doesn't matter.
I practiced drawing each position from 1-4 and found I was fastest at 2 o'clock. 3 was a very close second at a few hundredths slower and 1 was a not as close third at a couple tenths slower. 4 was just way slower.
I was taught that you treat every gun like it is loaded and never let the muzzle point at anything you don't want destroyed. I'd consider my junk as something I do not want destroyed.
I'd rather not have the only thing stopping my nuts being shot off being my concentration and never ever making a mistake. If your only safety is the one between your ears, it is the least reliable safety. People screw up. I'd rather have a system that doesn't cost me that much if I did.

How far forward is that cant? I feel like it’s gotta be a hefty one to point outside your leg when sitting. I find the gun stabs my dang leg when carrying appendix so if there’s a way to avoid that I’m all ears. I currently carry 4 o’clock so I can sit down without having the gun jabbing my leg.

    • @ihcterra4625
      @ihcterra4625 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@andrewwilborn4144 the cant isn't extreme. Moving the holster to behind the front pocket half way between appendix and 3 o'clock is the key. You just have to work with the adjustments on the holster.

As a full time police officer (retired) for 27 years, we were required to wear our duty holster in the strong hand hip position. For us, that meant wearing it at about 2:30 position. It's not as comfortable as 4 o'clock, but it is better for driving. The main reason though was for weapon retention, as police officers are regularly exposed to a disarming threat.
That same threat will present for anyone who unfortunately is attacked while carrying, but likely will have less drill training on retention.
I always carry in this same location as a retiree, both IWB and OWB.

Notice how this lad is talking about having empty hands skills. The average assault happens 7ft on in. At 7ft you will not get your weapon drawn so you better have some skills. The first empty skill you need to learn is how to get hit in the face. If you have never been hit in the face with a fist you will never be an effective self defender. So get yourself some boxing gear, i.e. head gear, some gloves and have a friend punch you in the face a few times. Once you know what it is like to get hit in the face you will learn 2 things. first, getting hit in the face is not the end of the world and second, you will know how to respond.

Yet, it tends to snag so my other hand may be required if I haven’t pulled it partially while standing ‘casually’. BUT, where I’m most obligated, as part of our team, requires me seated most of the time. Even with cargo style pants, it’s in the upper pocket to keep from printing and bulging the cargo pocket. I’m searching for something that is discrete (since discretion is tantamount) and yet when observing a possible threat, that I can casually begin my migration to a more ‘responsive’ position while still seated. Finding that difficult with my present combination. So, his description of the minimalist cross draw may seem to be a possibility as well as the comments using the belt pouch…but that one seems less than discrete…unless feigning a back injury…. Frankly I'd like more information on both IWB holsters you demonstrated. I've been carrying for more than 40 yrs; full size, compact, pistol, revolver... your statement that "you might have to try a few holsters before you find what works" is completely true. I own 11 handguns and have carried almost all of them at one time or another. Multiply "a few" holsters by that and, well, I can confidently say that I have boxes of holsters! And there's the rub. There's no single holster that fits all the bill all the time. But holsters have evolved in all those intervening years and there are many options available today that weren't available just a few years ago, and that causes another problem: there's so many!
So when I see something new to me I want to gather more information to see if it might fit my want/need. Because quality holsters aren't cheap either. Probably have to buy more boxes or at least start a holster swap meet...

I actually had to draw and almost use my CC gun two weeks ago, I carry a Ruger EC9s with a clip on inside the pant holster. I usually carry the weapon in the small of my back, but for some unknown reason I was carrying it at the appendix position. I was out for an evening walk around my neighborhood, walking on the sidewalk fiddling around with my cell phone changing a TH-cam site when a full grown Rottweiler first started barking at me and then charged at me. He was tethered to a rope, but the rope was too long, I was able to run out into the street and to this very moment I am still surprised how fast my reactions were. I had my gun drawn in a flash, clicked off the safety (I keep in chambered) was crouching down to line up a shot on the dog just as the dogs owner grabbed the rope and came running right up next to the dog, that dog had less than a second before it became worm food.
I have since switched to the appendix position unless I'm going to be seated for any period of time.
Oh that dog is gone from the neighborhood now, the dogs owner is a renter, I reported him to the association Nazi's the following day. I can't tell you how pissed off I was that evening, I am actually more pissed off that I had to draw my weapon than being chased by the dog, I cussed the dog own up one side down the other.

With how I dress ankle or pocket carry is the only option. I have the p365 and it fits in either location perfectly. I can’t carry IWB or OWB, etc. My shirts are tucked in and I do not wear a coat.

I carry mini 9’s (like Glock 43-not X) in pocket holster easily. I don’t like ankle carry- the way it feels and the extra time to draw. I also can easily detect when others are carrying ankle.

Look into the Urban Carry holster. Not perfect but it’s an option. I also have to wear a shirt tucked in at work. The Urban Carry holster is the best option for me.

Make sure if you practice positioning and drawing from your weapon is to ensure that it is not loaded. Recommend it to put an empty magazine to get the full feeling of the size of the gun but do not put any bullets in the magazine or especially in the chamber if you are new at doing so.

Safe dry fire training is critical! Do you use snap caps when you dry fire?

As long as i carry , i dnt care about the position, better than no weapon at all. Just saying.

You should show each carry position with your body in different positions (seated, kneeling, from the back/front,etc.) to show how much each carry position prints under clothing and any accommodations you may need to make for each position (how to dress, etc.).

I like cross draw but further back than you demonstrated.. It leaves room for my belly and can draw with my right shooting hand seated and not in front of me for retention..

    Frigging fool. See...
The 2nd Amendment doesn’t apply to semi-auto rifles, nor does it apply to Bolt Action Rifles, Pistols or Revolvers.
    The Second Amendment restricts Government.
The Technology of the Firearm is irrelevant.
The restrictions on Government stay the same, regardless of the firearm.
The Second Amendment was not written to grant permission for Citizens to own and Bear firearms.
It FORBIDS Government interference in the RIGHT to keep and Bear Arms, PERIOD!!
“The Right of the People to keep and bear Arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”.

I carry OWB strong side. It’s comfortable for my body type. My state is open carry. I’ll get my concealed soon. But for now OWB allows me to still carry in the meantime.

Your state allows for you to carry open carry with no permit but to conceal it you need a permit? I was under the impression to carry openly you still need ccw permit, that may just be my state.

@@ShaneChilly I’m glad you commented. (Sorry this is so long). I’m in NC. You don’t need a permit to openly carry. In order to purchase a gun in NC however, you need what is called a “purchase permit.” To get that, you have to go to the Sheriff’s department and apply for the purchase permit for $5. You can apply for 3 or 4permits (I think)... (at $5 each) under one name and that will allow you to purchase 3 guns. The Sheriff’s department will do the background check and when it’s done, you go back and pick up your purchase permit and go pick up your gun from the store. You can then openly carry. Period. To get your concealed permit, it’s $90 and you gotta take a class and all that. Since I can openly carry, I do. No need to pay $90. I could even have a gun “given” or “gifted” to me, and I can openly carry it here without a background check. Or if I lived in another state, purchased my gun legally there, then visited NC or moved to NC, I could openly carry that gun here. If you came here to visit, you can openly carry while here. Annnnd also, in NC, 76 of the 100 counties are 2A sanctuary counties. So if there were ever a law to take away guns or restrict our rights, those laws can’t be unforced in those counties. I foresee us becoming a full on 2A Sanctuary state soon.

If you have any suggestions for a holster please let me know. Everything I use shows, or prints. So I stopped carrying most of the time. Also, where I work, I can't have a firearm in my vehicle which will get searched. I had a ruger lcp but hated it (still printed). Now I have a glock 42. I'm small (5'4" maybe 125lbs). If I don't have a puffy winter jacket on you can tell I'm carrying. I've used barsony, concealment express and m-tek holsters
