I’m an old player. I made multiple decks from this set. I had a great time messing around. Wasn’t about money ❤
Agreed ❤
This is why I stick to kitchen table. That's where the fun happens.
If this set had released right after actual bg3 as dropped and was being super hyped, it would’ve literally flew off the shelves. That wasn’t wizards fault though, as the developer of the video game had delays in release.
it did fly off the shelves, the issue was that Commander Legends was so successful that Wizards had increased the price and the print run to capitalise on that legacy, then when packs started to be opened the expected value was believed to be very low because the pulls seemed few and far between, people started calling saying it was a bait and switch, the market collapsed. People liked the product when the price was reduced so it started to be opened.
I feel the same with the new AC set
12:50 out of nowhere, Rudy draws dragons and Jeff gets bamboozled
Poor. poor Jeff.
Looks back after pulling 1 of the hardest cards to pull and….. Sorry Jeff…. Hello Eric
the patron still got clobbered only the red dragon is worth anything anymore, karlach is 9, the lands are actually like 10-13 but they are few and far between
Eric Rudyson
Take a drink every time he says "5 or 10 dollar horn".
Seeing you toss a delayed blast fireball was painful. It's a more valuable card than most of the Dragons.
It’s 15$, buckle up buttercup…
Bro listened, unboxings ARE BACK
This was my introduction to mtg when it came out - because I had also recently gotten into dnd
The trackprinting was the problem everyone wanted the dragons and lands and no one got one.
I didn’t know you could get so few dragons in that many boxes. Wild
I am 16 and have played and collected magic since 9. magic was actually the way I learned english
Thanks for cracking packs on camera, I was considering getting some collector boosters. Now I'm not.
I wasn't around when this set dropped but when I got back in around Aug of '23 (Alongside BG3 dropping) I fell in love with it. I think many did.
I am a fan of the showcases of this set. They look gorgeous
Thank you for the recent unboxing videos Rudy, very appreciated! I love them, been watching since Kamigawa released (Kamigawa block from back in the day was the last sets I played before life hit).
I remember all the Baldurs Gate openings so clearly, no land boxes, 5 mythic set boxes.. crazy times
Hay for the record Haunted One is sweet in Marrow Gnawer, but that being said "WHO'S GANNA PLAY THIS!!!" Made me laugh.
I don't think Rudy comprehends how certain cards can go well with certain commanders...
when i heard him say that for haunted one was it was weird cause its one of the best of the backgrounds, goes in lots of tribal decks and is also worth a bit of cash
It was so wild. This set actually brought me back to magic and I think some would say the same. Strange moment to reenter magic. Excited about pulling dragons and baldurs gate, then confused about the pricing. Had I not pulled a copper dragon in first box back it could have been different. Since been all in
archivist of ohgma is worth 5.19 extended , displacer 12.75, ancient red dragon 140 foil, 60 extended, 60 showcase, ancient bronze dragon is 7 dollars only … so the dragons you pulled covered maybe 2 boxes … ouch !
I'm building a superfriends deck for EDH right now, and you're very right that most of them do not feel special or good anymore. Most of the ones I'm using are 5 or more years old, very few are newer than that.
Set was great buying at 135 a collector box
Rudy basilisk collar was in worldwake not dark ascension 😇
0:54 I have been here since the Fall of 2021! 😃
The cards in this set are so versatile. I firmly believe the size of the set was too daunting for the average player to fully comprehend.
It may not have had all of the "staples" that many were expecting, but gave Commander players lots of new cards to brew with, many of which are incredibly impactful in the right deck.
The new cards are honestly very good, and are now finally bring appreciated.
that’s exactly it there’s a million mid range commander cards that aren’t better than the first commander legends… this needed to release like before the first commander legends this is a prequel more than a sequel imho.. giant card count!!
I have a collector box I paid 240 for and 3 i got for $119 hahah. Just hold and believe folks
Honestly, i play haunted one in my mono black rats deck. It helps me attack for big while granting protection
I got a bunch of these at $169.99 shipped 🙏
I got 5 dragons (2 copper) and 6 battlebond lands doing the dnd anniversaymry with 1 draft box and 1 collector box. It was super fun.
I sell bulk cards and anytime I get baldurs gate bulk it sells, period. That and time spiral remastered it's awesome
This set brought dragons back to magic in my mind.
I love the scroll frame cards
Me when I got that 1 fetchland and not much else....
Thanks for the box opening Rudy I enjoyed it and appreciate it
This set has so many value cards...
I wasn’t around for this original release I joined up in early 2023
Started in Beta.. Been around Magic and your channel for a while. I am old. haha
Question for patrons ... do you get a discount when you do box opening videos. Cause I don't get not wanting to open your own case...
Always liked this set a lot. Pulled a ton of legendaries dragons.
Dragons are awesome but that sucks that's the only get pulled out of it
I’m still going strong came back in 2000. Just recently said blah I’m done for awhile. The cost of magic is dumb lol.
What a last pack !!! 😮
The sentiment on this set truly changed after baldurs gate 3 came out /s
Still love this set🎉 thanks Rudy!!!
This was a really feel bad set for me. Nothing beats Dom U and Crimson Vow however
"Basilisk Collar, great Dark Ascension card."
yeah I got these from you when they came out. Ouch... what a bummer this felt bad.
If they had made this a true companion set to AitFR I would have supported it. Another dungeon to dive into would have been great! But sadly they don't jive because its a commander only set....dumb.
Rudy the haunted one is playable. It’s like $10.
Not sure I agree with that Haunted One take. The idea that only top tier cards are strong and worth building around is a small percentage of how Magic player think and build. Plus, Haunted One is good, try it out.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard you Rudy mess up a customer name
I started playing right when Kaldheim came out. KHD and M21 still are my favorites. STX was my first release I was around for. I still hang around. I take breaks, for example I haven’t played in about a month, mostly because I play a couple live service video games and they’ve all had very big releases/launches here and it’s just eating all of my free time lol. It’s starting to settle down tho and I’m getting the itch, so I’ll probably break something out here soon. I think the only time I’ve kinda had a “I don’t like mtg right now” moment was last year I guess. After Kami I was hyped for phyrexia, but brothers, dom, phyrexian, and machine all just sucked it out of me. (I know some of those sets did really well, I just didn’t enjoy them personally) but wilds sucked me back in and I was back to daily play until just a month or so ago. Even if I take a break here or there I always see myself coming back to magic.
you can’t go wrong with dragons…and you can’t go wrong with a beef taco without lettuce cheese and hot sauce
OOO Elephants!!
Omg people were so mad when they moved mana drain, they said they weren't buying it and that made it cheap for me
Pretty sure TCG has the last Copper dragon at $100 to $150... look at Rudy playing down the price!
Seriously I believed Rudy repacked those boxex until he pulled Ancient Copper 😅 21 packs to open first one .....
Wasn't Basilisk Collar a Worldwake card?
Yes
For a whole case, with the exception of that last box, that was PRETTY bad 😮
I actually love this set. Really wish they had synched the release with the Baldur's Gate 3 game. Probably would have done better.
6 - 18 months seems to be a very short span of time. I've stayed with magic since 1999-ish, of course it's been some more active and less active periods. From 2002 - 2007 and from 2017 - 2019 I've had some down time. But 1,5 years seems very short. Not disagreeing with statement, just surprised by it.
Rudy I’m now a Patron but you got me back into magic for VIP Double Masters. Now that I have money I’m here for life. I have 52 Baldurs gate commander decks. Holy shit they are selling for ALOT. I’m in the middle of doing inventory for the first time. In total it’s worth more than a house. Since 2019 I bought collector boxes of each set, some draft and set, but I went all in on commander decks. It was brutal during kaldheim, strixhaven, zendikar rising, Dominaria United…but I STAYED THE COURSE like a true Timmy💎✅💥🔥
i knew it was my box opening. even though he said the wrong name. what are the odds that someone would want to open this many boxes of this set.
Great set!
I was here. Lots of sweet cards in it, but the distribution on the rares and mythics was terrible in anything but draft boxes. Loved the set
I mean it seems a little strange that the big complaint is the lack of Mana Drain in a D&D theme set, followed by complaining about Commander-specific cards in a commander-specific product.
Kinda like complaining about there not being any Moxes in the Lord of the Rings set or being upset that there were a lot of artifact-specific cards in Mirrodin.
People only stick with magic for 6-18 months? That’s crazy to me.
I just saw jeff fall to his knees at the local Bucee's.
This was crazy cheers
Idk if its definitively true but you know theres an issue with product sentiment when most people think your best chance at a good pull is a draft box
$62.68 vs. $62.44 tcg mid of copper dragon reg vs showcase. Personally, I don't like the parchment cards just bc I don't want to reward wizards for less work. (Less ink and drawing)
I liked this set and AFR .. I Tan cards I didn’t care for
I can understand opening these for fun and if you are into the set, but if you are after value, you are nuts. A case of 6 boxes, worth at least 900 USD, didn’t make half of it with 3 Ancient copper dragons in the mix hahahahaha and that is indeed lucky for this set…
I have a feeling another bait & switch is coming soon. The power creep has been off the charts lately, and Bloomburrow and Duskmourn are mostly trying to sell people on the art.
I have a raggadragga commander deck and i can confirm it is a GREAT card.
You have to turn the jellyfish sideways and tickle the top of it. Trust me.
LOL - Vexxing Puzzleboxes just scream 'Theme Deck' ;-D
A lot of Baldurs Gate feels like cards were just 1 cmc from being playable. A lot of interesting cards in this set but too much of a pain to play
I had already checked out - it was just after Strixhaven when I waived the flag. Pokemon somewhat has my heart.
This set is always fun
There is drama in every set. Remember Mirage when they debuted 3 block sets???? Bruh. It was supposedly game-over.
80-90? thats $145 card rudy
Love your videos!
it's funny that the average length of time people play magic tops out around 18 months.
been into the game a couple times since the 90's always for a couple of years, and i always dip out when i don't feel like buying new cards anymore. also playing with the same people all of the time gets boring.
part of the reason i enjoy arena, i've spent literally nothing and have had a bunch of fun and have a great collection.
I don't collect magic but I'm started watching you around 2020 your information has been more then valuable your take on the market smpratt's take on pokemon my passion for pokemon has been good to me over the years. Thank you Rudy I appreciate sir.
Collectors are literally only worth if you get them at like half the msrp lol
Even then
Only if you pull a dragon and even then certain ones
Honestly, as a set for money or investments yeah it’s bad. But damn do I love building decks for fun with cards from the set. I have 6 commander decks based on cards that are from this set.
I’ve been in magic since the 2001
Ancient copper dragon is is $145
The Greatest Taco of all Time
Plaines walkers are hard to protect 🤷
Seriously! Are you done with Hasbro and its MTG?
If they sold set boxes for $50 and Collector Boxes for $100, I guarantee the company would make double the amount of money they already bring in. But they are too dumb. I would be buying 3 boxes opposed to zero because at least I feel I’m getting more out of it. I don’t have $450 to spend on magic cards but maybe $100
2.3k views 2 hours ago. Booby Trap from Tempest
man that showcase treatment was hot garbage
I bought a few boxes of this at launch. This was such a disappointing product . Too many useless legendaries. Dragons were too hard to pull. The precons were fun though!
Been here since 2014
Been playing all in since 2017
Get it together king dingaling
The Problem that even the Dragon hit this box got is the vesion that NO ONE wants and casted less then the even standard one. If im not mistaken the regular art of the Dragons are worth MORE then the scroll show case...
I was there! Not that it matters 😂
Any dragon without haste is unplayable. Who is paying for this crap?!
Been into magic since 2002 so a fair few years. This was one of the weirdest times for sure. The bait and switch just felt awful as it was so blatant and a massive f*CK you from wizards. The product was never bad but the feeling was for sure.
