I am a CNC machinist for Woodpeckers. I literally took the job for the employee discount, and I have pretty much every tool they sell. I belong to a ton of online woodworking groups, and I frequently hear the complaints regarding the price of our tools. To those people I have this to say. Whenever I can afford to buy American made products, I do so. It's important to me to support American manufacturing. I buy Lie-Nielsen hand planes, I buy Benchmade knives, and I try to buy American made clothing whenever possible. Yes, it is true that wood moves more than the tolerance of our products, so is it necessary to buy a square that's dead nuts VS a 10$ Chinese made square from Home Depot? Of course not. Woodworkers far more talented than myself have made better things with cheap tools. But I earn a decent living, in a clean, climate controlled factory, and I get excited about the products that our engineers are designing, and I'm very proud to be one small part of this company.
That post alone makes me want to buy Woodpecker! 👍🏽
Preach brother! I love this comment. As a guy that has maybe used a circular saw prolly 2x in my life I still love watching videos about this hobby/job. I create video game art with beads, lol which sounds funny but I’m doing it at a high level and my pieces are expensive but people pay because it’s top tier. Whenever I hear people complain about prices for niche high quality goods it drives me nuts.
You’re living the dream, sir. The American Dream! Everyone should realize Made in America will cost more, usually for good reason. Good pay, employee loyalty, well made, supporting American workers and industry.

If people wanted better quality and would pay, China would produce it. People love cheap stuff so that's what they make
My name is Fabio and I am writing to you from Italy.
Yesterday the courier delivered to me my first Woodpeckers tool, the "ThinRip Guide with Rack-It". Purchasing it from Italy, including shipping costs, taxes and duties, I paid $110 more than the price in the USA (in in any case less than what I would have paid by purchasing it from a European importer seller!) When I took the tool in my hands I realized that I had spent that money very well because the quality, solidity and precision are not even comparable with the tools , even quality ones, that I have had so far in the laboratory... obviously I won't even mention the ridiculous Chinese clones sold at Banggood that I bought once just out of curiosity.
From today on Woodpeckers will have a special place in my workshop. My next purchase will definitely be the combined team you presented in this video.
As someone in a wheelchair. I see the benefit to the details that are put into woodpeckers tools. having to move and work with my hands. When most people take it for granted they can move and keep their hands on the tools without it moving. Many times I have to reset the measuring as if I just started. Instead of sliding the tool over maintaining a smooth work flow. Being able to move and continue from where I took my hands off the tool make doing working much less frustrating compared to the base level tools. The number of clamps I use for simple jobs is insane. I don't do fine woodworking but it is worth it to me to reduce what to most people can do in 15 mins. When I have to spend 3 times as long figuring out how to get around my limitations. The cost of all the extra clamps would off set much of the price.
I totally agree. I am a stroke survivor.. i have had 4. Plus a triple bypass.. i have yet to buy any woodpeckers tools. But they are on my wish list..gonna start with a few combination squares and a straight edge

One time buys that could have the potential to save you a lot in the long run.

My go to Woodpecker tools are the T squares. I have the 12", 24" and 32" and use them all the time. You hit the nail on the head that no matter which Woodpecker tool I grab, I have 110% confidence that ALL the measurements are identical. I can't say that about any other brand I have as far as measuring devices go. Love your content..add BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE to complete the package! Keep on 731!
These guys are 20 minutes from me and I'd never heard of them until I found your channel this year! Their products look great. I'm not yet at the level when I can justify paying for the level of precision, but they're on my radar for sure.
First time seeing one of your videos! Subscribed! I've been a fan of Woodpeckers for several years. Recently, they started making router bits and I responded to one of their emails asking them if they planned to make a 45D chamfer bit with dual bearings (I use a 45 often, but the single bearing often leaves a mark on the wood). Richard Hummel actually replied to my email and said they would add it to the list! Within a month or so, they not only had a dual-bearing 45D bit, but with a replaceable carbide insert. Needless to say, I have continued to be impressed 😀

I picked up a set of edge rules, as well as a center rule from them, and yes, that left a dent in the bank account. I maintain, watching your tool recommendation videos gets expensive. Worth it, but expensive.
The fact that the scales on their tools line up perfectly with each other is honestly a bigger deal than I think a lot of people realize. Compounding errors are a thing and the more you can do to tighten up your tolerances, the less chance you have of having to deal with it. I know I've been bitten by grabbing a different tape measure and using it to mark a piece, only to find out after I cut it that it's too short (why is it ALWAYS too short?) and I'm sure I'm not alone.
Truthfully, it's just really hard to justify their prices on some things - $120 for ONE 12" precision T-Square when for the same money you could buy 2 of the "clone" T-Squares with money to spare?
Will I buy more Woodpeckers stuff in the future? If I can afford it (that 32" precision T square is next). I'm glad to support them and they are REALLY nice, but that has drawbacks too! Starting with being terrified of dropping and damaging it...
I’m a fan and have a few items. I like their sales, but I’m often (usually) turned off by the high shipping prices. For the cost of their tools I think they should ship for free.
But there's no such thing as free shipping. It's always baked into something or another. But AMZN did prime us to think that there's such thing as free shipping (yes, pun was intended)

You make a good point when it comes to our individual choices about what to spend big $$ on - top of the line sewing machine, refrigerator, RV, boat, car. . . endless list. Not living in the US it's worth exactly zero dollars to me. I'm happy to pay for quality, not so much the premium because "USA! USA!"

The discussion about worth vs cost at the end is very insightful. I found another American tool company in Michigan a few years ago. It is Grace Tools. They mainly make tools for gunsmiths, but their screwdriver sets are good for all workers. They are very good looking with American hardwood handles. Their Phillips drivers are my favorite. They don't cost any more than other imported premium screwdrivers. Also, in Michigan is Florip Toolworks. This is another small company with a great back story. I have 2 of his saws and they are super-sweet. Thx for another entertaining and informative video.

Agree with the Stealth Stop system for your miter saw. Works great and eliminates the need for a long fence.
I love the feel of high quality tools. Just having them in my hands is inspiring.
I have never regretted buying Woodpecker Tools. Once they are in my shop I never think about the price again. They make me smile every time I use them!
I support American made, family owned businesses when I can, granted they are good quality. The Mullet Cyclone is one of my favorite purchases of the last year and changed dust collection for me. That being said, I will buy anything that is quality. There are some European tool company’s large and small I support, and I am not above buying Bridge City Tools and plan on buying Harvey tools this year. There is just something about holding quality tools in your hand.

I just bought my first Woodpeckers tool, which strangely enough was a spiral flush trim router bit. Going to give it a test drive this weekend.
Woodpecker is expensive, but WORTH every penny. I started buying from them a little over a year ago and have had only one problem with one of there tools. I got I touch with them and they were very nice and took care of the issue. There customer service is outstanding. I am definitely hooked. ❤ them
That sounds just like my experience. I had a problem with a tool and contacted them about it. Next thing I know, a replacement was on my doorstep. What was once only dream tools, has become thousands in purchases since. My top 5 are different, but to each his own...right! I'm a big fan of their tools.

I have several Woodpeckers tools. They work as well as Matt describes them. If needed, I wouldn't hesitate to buy more. I've also purchased wood from them in the past during one of their sales. Again, was not disappointed.
One of my favorite Woodpeckers tools is the Auto-Line Drill Guide. It came in very handy when I needed to install threaded inserts in a tool base I was building. They were much too far from the edge to get at on the drill press. The inserts are perfectly vertical - much better than I could have done with a handheld drill alone.
I have one and it's one my least favorite Woodpecker's tools. It's not nearly rigid enough. It's OK for bits under 1/4", maybe, but forget any of the larger bits. I'll never withstand even a 1" Forstner bit.
I love the woodpeckers tools that I have. The edge ruler was the first one I bought and use it all the time. If there is something you want wait until it is on sale to help with the price.
Exactly. Usually new releases are on sale and usually something will go on sale at least once per year I think but I could be wrong.

I too have a number of Woodpecker tools. Not everything that comes out, just logical stuff of course. It seems a lot of their products are duplicates of previous tools or they do the same things but look different. Still I love their quality and will be a customer of theirs from now on. Great info! I've never regretted buying a Woodpeckers tool.
I have a Woodpeckers 32" T-Square and it's not square. Out of the box, I assumed it was square but when compared to a few other squares I have and then measuring off of a true square corner, I discovered it wasn't after things weren't lining up right (about 1/8" over 32"). No way to adjust the T-Square. Waste of money. I just use it now as an expensive straight edge.
If you drop one of Woodpeckers squares (1281), it will get marred more than other aluminum squares due to the thick aluminum weight. The thickness also makes it more difficult to make an accurate mark since the reading is elevated above your pencil mark more than others. I'll stick with steel that has marking holes. Many other cheaper options out there that perform as well or better. I originally bought a few Woodpeckers measuring tools for the cool factor and higher quality. I was wrong. Having Woodpeckers in your shop is more of a status symbol due to the high cost than as effective and accurate measuring tools, IMO.
When I first started out in woodworking I always bought the budget tools. I quickly learned how inaccurate many of the tools I bought were which made me very frustrated when doing projects. Another woodworker told me about Woodpeckers and how accurate their tools were. I did have sticker shock when I saw their prices which stopped me from buying anything. My wife was the one that gave me my first Woodpecker tool. She got me a set of Woodpecker edge rulers as a Christmas gift. After using them, I was immediately hooked. The quality and accuracy are unrivaled. Since then I continually look at all their sales they email out and when there is a tool I need, I buy it on sale and replace my crappy, inaccurate tool with it. It will take me a while to replace everything but it is going to be well worth it.
I would love to see you tour Woodpeckers. In my situation it is hard to afford them right now but I would love to own some of their tools in the future!
I have several of the Woodpeckers tools, and I do believe they are off the highest quality. Expensive,, yes but very good quality. I would really like to see an in-depth tour of their factory and an interview of the owner so make it happen. You can do it

Just an FYI, Precision is how close your results are to each other. Accuracy is how close your results are to a goal. If you're shooting a bow and arrow at a target and you're precise, you can cluster your arrows together every shot. But that's independent of how close that cluster of arrows is to the bullseye. Conversely, If you're accurate, you generally hit around the bullseye, but your arrows are not necessarily near each other. I think our general goal is to be both accurate and precise. Keep up the good work!

Yes, please take us on a tour of the Woodpeckers plant. Your Festool tour changed my outlook. Like Festool, & lots of other brands (looking at you Milwaukee & UJK), you get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once
That new setup gauge for table saws and drill press looks like a good deal. Cheaper than the smaller kreg setup block kit with more variations in steps (1/32" resolution). Plus of being stainless steel. Minus of not being usable with a router unless you have a router table. I'm planning to get that @ $70. Only feature it misses is the depth gauge function of the kreg blocks, but I'll use my caliper for that.

And that's my issue with this video. It isn't really an investigation into why. It's a video about how much he likes them. I would have liked more technical talk and even a comparison to other tools and why the prices are justified. I don't think they're bad or anything, I just thought it would be more informative than a sales pitch.
We have a bunch of, and love WP products, and customer support. I have a guy who can't keep his fingers out of the way of the Domino cutter so I ordered the Mortis Match for the Festool. Pretty slick.
Eyyyyyye Precise and Accurate are different. But I love to see something like this where both are relevant.

I have the woodpeckers router lift, works great. I also have their precision squares, they work too. I picked all my woodpeckers tools up at the traveling woodworkers show that comes through the Tampa area around the Feburary time frame, they usaually have pretty decent deals and you can play with them before you buy them. I am just saying.
Wow, didn't know they were in Strongsville, Ohio. I used to live about 5 minutes from them. Now, more like 20 minutes or so. I wish they weren't so expensive! Someday I'll buy myself at least one, lol. Thanks for the video!!!

I have a lot of their tools, great well made tools and as a past tool and die maker I can say these tools are machine shop quality, they are the Starret quality tool of woodworking.
Great video very informative, You made a great point on choices and I must admit you sold me on American-made, which is very important to me. I am at the point where it is time to save up and wait to get the quality tool made in America and not waste time on the overseas junk you have to buy repeatedly. As a former Cleveland, OH resident that didn't live far from their factory, I would love to see the tour of it. For me personally their prices are far out of my budget, but I wont knock them as I know they are very high quality.
Same here. Just the snippets in thus video are cool. Closest I've been was in their yard when I was doing a ride along a few weeks ago with a driver delivering liquid N2.
I'd love to see you check out that factory, i drive by it all the time. I have yet to go in there but i keep thinking about the next order i do from them i want to try and pick it up from the factory as its only about a few miles from my shop.

I would add their T square. It is a great layout tool to use when designing projects and when drafting full size patterns.
My local lumber supplier has a limited selection of WW at their store.
There’s a one time tool that I’m after, their angle finder from a few year ago.
Pretty much like our Lee Valley Tools here in Canada. The Veritas line of tools will stand against ANY quality tools and there is a lot of innovation along with that. Planes, squares, carving, and so much more. And they have been around since the 70s. That said, ALL my squares are Starrett and they have been around forever. Starrett is always dead on accurate as they are not woodwork tools but actually used by metal manufacturing companies. Sure accurate, reliable, well made tools are expensive but they live a long time and are well worth the money. I sold good quality tools for 30yrs before I retired and most of what I bought will probably end up in an auction when I am gone but I will use them right up until that happens. I have a shop full of tools that will likely still be in use a hundred years from now. Buy right, buy quality and never look back. You will NEVER have to upgrade good quality tools. Good quality tools are usually nicer to work with and easier to use. I used to tell my customers "there are NO cheap tools but what you pay for a tool decides how well they work, how long they last and how comfortable they are to use". Lifetime warranty means nothing if you have to keep getting replacements......

I like the tools and own quite a few. Although my first purchase was a set of the stainless squares, and the 300mm was way out of square. I took some pictures of it sent them to wood peckers, and within a week had a replacement, great service. Especially since I live in New Zealand. Shipping is also very expensive though, would be nice to have a cheaper option. I'd agree the combo square is excellent except the blade is a little too wide to fit in a tool belt. Great tools great service.

Huge fan of Woodpeckers. I try to buy USA when I can and realize I may have to put my money where my mouth is from time to time. I’ve returned one expensive tool and they tool it back, no questions asked and paid return shipping. My favorite tool, besides the stainless delve square, is their autoscale miter sled. I gave the one I made to a friend because theirs is so good and dead accurate.
I bought my Paolini Pocket Rule directly from Greg Paolini at a Festool cabinet class at his shop in Asheville NC. Unfortunately Festool doesn’t do the onsite classes for non-dealers like me, but I took several at his site a few years ago. But his last name is pronounced “Pow-Leanie”. Super good guy and an outstanding craftsman.

Matt, Fantastic video as always. I fall into exactly your mindset. Some of them are great some Not necessarily for me. However, all that I have, and its alot, are the absolute best tools that I own. Getting ready to order the stealth stop for my mitersaw station. It really bothers me that the China factories are so bold to knock off the Woodpeckers tools and don’t even bother to use their own tools for the advertising just use an actual Woodpeckers tool. Sure hope you can get that tour, I would love to see the operation. Keep up the great work!
You say you are a big fan of high quality tools, but 3yr-4 years ago you didn't have the $$$ for high quality tools. I don't remember ever seeing one Woodpecker tool in those old videos.

Yep, and 10 years ago I didn't own any tools. See how that works. Started out borrowing tools to build stuff. Took those profits to buy my own tools that I could afford at the time. Repeat the process and buy tools I want.

I have a few of their less expensive tools. I only use the Paolini pocket rule on every project. I only use the mini delve square for almost every project. I only use the mini square every time I make a keepsake box. They are expensive. I question my sanity for buying them. I’ve never been disappointed.
I’ve also purchased wood when it’s on sale. A lot. I’ve never been disappointed.

For the record, precision and accuracy are different measures. If you think in terms of holes in a shooting target, a tight group is "precise" in that you've repeatedly put shots in the same place. But that group might not be near the bullseye or "accurate". Accurate is when the bullets hit the center of the target (where you want them to go). A tight group in the bullseye is both precise and accurate. ** "The more you know" tune **

I have one Woodpeckers tool - the 3" Delve SS square.
What a horrible mistake that purchase was. This square is N.I.C.E.. It feels so good in my hands. I swear it even makes my pencils work more smoothly. The mistake was letting myself splurge "just this once" and now wanting more! I'm a hobbyist woodworker, so I can justify most of their tools, but I'll certainly pick up a few more things - but just the tools I use the most (the square for sure - it's by far my most used non-power tool).
Thank you for this video. A remarkable American success story. I buy their tools when I can (and wait for a sale). I’m excited to see them getting into factory-direct router bits too! I do wish they could provide a better deal on shipping or negotiate better prices with shippers. It does trouble me to see people buying the Chinese knock-offs that clearly are copying the Woodpeckers tools. It just encourages more of that behavior and its prohibitively expensive and time consuming to fight them.
I have a bunch of Woodpecker's tools. First purchase should be the 1281 square or the newer 1282SS which is about the same price. Is it important for a woodworking tool to have that kind of accuracy? Yes. If you assemble case goods, any inaccuracy is going to make for a wonky product that won't fit well together (and might look like crap). The other one I really like is the 8" pocket T square. For me, this is the perfect size, a bit more than 6" which is handier than you might think. I have a bunch of Incra squares but these are so much easier to handle and use.

My favorite Woodpeckers tool is the 26" x 16" heavy square. Indispensable for making bigger cabinets.

I have Woodpecker products in my shop. I also have cheap tools too. I also have Incra Tools also. As I have Snap on , and Harbor Freight. Festool, Dewalt, Milwaukee Tools
I like the fact that woodpecker tools are high quality however, I'm just starting out in woodworking and price is something that hinders my every purchase. Obviously just starting out I don't have the funding to justify $150 for a square regardless of the quality. I hope to eventually acquire quality tools like woodpecker and festool but for the foreseeable future I have to stay within my financial limitations. What do you think about their Stealth Stop Miter Gauge for table saws?
I’m getting a new Grizzly saw soon and was thinking of getting this tool.
The only issue i have with woodpeckers tools is companies like benchmark that can produce the same exact tools, even the measurements line up, made from the same materials and 1/4 the cost. Just seems more like insane price hikes that arent needed
