I've been building jumps for a long time now and had to learn through trial and error. this video is awesome and I hope young shredders see this. this stuff would have helped me tons as a kid. props to you man
It's so good to see somenone else digging ! I quit the job because I was alone and everything has been destroyed, so many times... I digged for ten years and built ten spots, all destroyed, by some jerks, by the police, by myself forced by the police... But it's good to see someone explaining how to do it, and you did it pretty well. Your dirt seems very good and you have the water. Best wishes man, long life to your jumps ! (from France)
It's always nice to see people who are passionate about not only riding but building as well. Growing up there were jumps in about every patch of woods you could find around the county. The people who rode all grew up and the scene died off completely and now all those spots are just dense woods.
love your work Greg, you set a perfect example to everyone that if you’re determined enough and you have the right attitude, you can do anything. You’re actually very inspirational.
Mate, I don't ride but I saw your video while clicking through. That's art! I'd be scared to ride it because I wouldn't want to ruin it! Absolutely spectacular 😮
Think it depends what you ride, i ride DH so I like to get it to rideable but rough AF 😂 this is perfection, I'd be scared to ride on it if i made something like this
This is what can be accomplished with pride in workmanship. This man is an artist at this craft and should be commended. Nothing but perfection will suffice for him and it shows in the finished product. Too many people today think good enough is good enough.
Probably the best video that explain better the dirt jump's problems and methods of build them. I'd like built some dirt jumps but there's no yards in my city and I haven't one.
Greg, this is the best video you have put on your channel no questions asked. I suggest you build a hip jump and do an in depth how to whip for beginners. Keep up the great work!
You're an artist! Beautiful jumps. Do you have a high clay content in your native soil? Any advice on vegetation on the sides? Is grass ok for keeping the sides intact?
I may be a professional mountain biker, but trust me i am not a pro trail or ramp builder. however after watching that vid I was surprised how much it helped me perfect a ramp. thanks a tonne ( keep it up bro.)
Where do you think I can build jumps? I live in a city and don't have a yard like yours the forests are filled with trees so maybe just finding a small field?
MG_Anon Me and my buddies just found an amazing spot. It’s not like these jumps as seen in the video but off a 20ft dirt mound. So I live in rural area and we have to explore a lot for these perfect areas. When exploring I would say go to construction sites they have dirt piles there. Also if they are doing new division of houses in an area they will have wicked piles of dirt that we make tracks on. And usually workers have mad respect for us. Good luck though!
You are a damn treasure my friend, loved the vid. It may sound silly but when you voice over a video, just throw a blanket over you, its gets rid of that tinny echo sound and sounds a lot more rich and natural.
Hey mate I love your vids, you should invest in a clip-on mic to record all the audio with so when you're away from the camera the audio isn't so quiet
I know how much work it takes to dig up that much soil. Then you layer it up with the Rich Clay Earth (I would say it is the heaviest and the hardest of soils). When we did this behind my backyard, which is under a small mountain in Wollongong. We would build them in a group of a dozen or more kids. But you do it all yourself. There is 50% water and 50% sweat on those ramps. 👍
As a mountainbiker these gaps look so insanely steep, high and even quite far if you take in mind how high you fly. I mean essentially it's like dropping down a 2 storey building and being lucky enough to find your way down at a very steep and short landing. Just a bit too short or a bit too far and you are either faced by a sharp edge of the landing or a flat surface. So yeah, mad respect to anyone that rides (and builds) these sculptures!
That is really nice dirt. It also helps when the jumps aren't on hostile property. I can't tell you how many times we've had our set up finished with multiple lines and transfers just to show up one day and they're bulldozed
I feel like this stuff is really mostly cosmetic because my jumps don’t look that great but they work like a freaking dream. But those are some freaking sexy ass jumps tho props man
Thx for the tips. I've been wanting to make dirt jumps for a while now, I tried 1 time but they just looked like shit and didn't work, so finally I found a video that will help me. Thanks again
I dont even bike or anything at all, its just watching you get the jumps soo smooth. its really satisfying lol

is it just me or do all us riders/builders have OCD when building jumps or tracks?
and also are you from Australia?
I'm not sure ahah and yes i'm from Australia
Sweet man me to, love the vids keep up the good work!

I love how when ever your jumps fall and start to break he just comes and builds them back up this kids percistents will stop world depressing
LOL you are so right
Thank you 👍
Not sure how this makes the world less depressing. Depression isnt going away because he made a fuckin dirt jump
@@youngshinu3043 I found the depressed one! go work your magic @Greg Barling
Awesome effort. Such a great finish, and got to love Aussie ingenuity in the backyard.

Awesome jumps. I wish my dirt was like that.
Thanks Joe
Yeah I have to build my jumps with topsoil, the dirt sticks to the shovel no matter how wet and it’s very weak.
Wow, this is soooo helpful. I’m getting addicted to this channel!
mint dirt jumps keep up the sick videos
Thanks dude I will
Yeah Greg you are sick af
I don't even do anything related to bikes. I just find this very satisfying to watch
There’s 3 things a man loves watching,
1. Fire going up
2. Water going down
3. And another man working
🤣
What?
Huh?
thats just gay

7th time rewatching. Never gets old. sm respect g.
Almost identical technical workmanship to building houses/compounds in Afghanistan.

Thanks man 👍👍
Welcome to episode 93 of
“Why is this in my recommendations?”
charlie winters ik right?
Your jumps are sooooooo!!!!! Satisfying!! And sooo smooth it probably feels like it can go up into space!
How do you work out the spacing in between jumps, especially when you are building from scratch. Do you just test them and hope not to die?
Pretty much man haha
Lol
Idk I guess you could do math but that’s boring
Greg Barling I’m new ur cool
just get 1 set done . ride it and see were you feel comfortable building a 2nd set . and repeat! ! !
Red Bull needs this dude!! The most imaculcate jumps I have ever seen!!! The time and patience is amazing!!!
You're an artist! Beautiful jumps. Do you have a high clay content in your native soil? Any advice on vegetation on the sides? Is grass ok for keeping the sides intact?
The dirt had high clay content I think. Usually I pull out all the grass and weeds in the dirt but it should help to keep the sides intact
Top tips, I plan on continuing some maintenance to help the local jump park guy, is what he told me and more, and great to it in action! So smoooooth!
It would be really helpful to make a tutorial on how to build/rebuild a spine. Its a really hard one and I need ur help.

Where do you think I can build jumps? I live in a city and don't have a yard like yours the forests are filled with trees so maybe just finding a small field?
Yeah maybe find a small area to build in but I'm not too sure man
build the jumps and track between 2 trees

Thanks for the suggestion man i'll look into it mate I only just recently bought a microphone for my camera
That bottle lid trick is perfect for me to water my bonsai. I cannot find a watering can with a rose fine enough to not disturb the soil, thank you!
So satifying
it takes commitment to go out and work on jumps in an Aussie summer, props to you
Thats true. Thank you man!
Did anyone notice that sick wheel barrow 180, that was sick!

That's some commitment!... Good for you young man!👍
Wow.. the amount of work you've done in one video shines a new light of my view in difference of being comitted or lazy :D
When you take as much time on the back and sides as the lip you are killin it!
I feel like this stuff is really mostly cosmetic because my jumps don’t look that great but they work like a freaking dream. But those are some freaking sexy ass jumps tho props man
