  • Now that I'm in Wales I think it only for the best to learn a bit more about the new country I'm living in.
One of the best ways to do that is to go on a city tour. I booked a tour with Fogo's Free Tours and I'm so glad I did.
I learned so much about my new city and enjoyed touring areas I didn't even know existed. It lit a spark in my and I'm so happy to be traveling again.

You NEED to visit St Fagans, the National Museum of Wales ( not far from Cardiff) - it's not like a 'normal' museum - everything is outside in acres of beautiful grounds - loads of original relocated old buildings : houses, shops, church, Mill, farmhouses etc, full of original furniture and artefacts that you can go inside and look around.
And, it's totally free, except for parking. You need a whole day to visit, I've been 3 times and still not seen everything.

One of the oldest pubs in Cardiff was dismantled in around 2010 and is being rebuilt brick by brick in st fagans. Due for completion in the next few years and will be a full working pub and decorated c1900. A famous local brains house called 'The Vulcan' formally of Adam street.

I agree with you and someone said something similar to me when I took some photos not to dissimilar to the vid shots 👍🏻
To add to the Harry Potter Theme, the train was for many years down the Barry scrap yard. I had a den in it actually. It was great playground 🙂

I'm English but I currently live in Cardiff and have done for like 4 years now and I love Cardiff with my whole heart!! It's so nice seeing others love this city and this country the way I do!! I definitely recommend visiting as many castles as you can! Fun Fact: Castell Coch in Cardiff is where they filmed an episode of BBC Merlin! I highly recommend a visit, it's a small but very beautiful castle. Also visit Snowdonia if you can, Mount Snowdon from the story of Merlin and the two dragons the tour guide spoke of is an extinct volcano and it's absolutely stunning! There are beautiful lakes around it too! Much love ♥

My daughter lives on the outskirts of Cardiff - you can walk all the way into the city along the river in Bute Park.
The National Museum of Wales at St Fagans, is just a few miles outside Cardiff - it's free to enter and you would love it. It's mostly outside and comprises houses and other buildings that have been moved from their original places in Wales and rebuilt /restored at St Fagans.
There are houses, farmhouses, Mills, shops, church etc... from the Medieval times through to Victorian times. You are allowed to go in all the buildings ( that are furnished as they would have been at the time). It takes a whole day to walk around. I've been a few times and still not seen everything.

i'm a brit born and bred lol when we moved in to our house in 2000 (my mums house when i was young) it had 5 bedrooms a very large garden and so on soon after moving in we planted a willow in the back garden , thinking it may not last i used to look after it , trim it care for it for many years it grew higher than the house , my mum passed in 2015 and we where all grown up so the house was sold on , the estate agent who was doing the selling suggested cutting down the willow which we declined to do since we planted it ...anyhow a bit further down the line an old couple came to see the house and again the estate agents suggested to them to cut down the willow as it would give them more garden space ........first thing they said is no way in hell , the lady said willows are her favorite tree's and the only reason they decided to look at this house was the size and the large willow in the garden as she asked us about it and we told her me, my brother and my dad planted it in 2000 and cared for it trimmed it and looked after it all these years and she hugged us lol and said she loved it and she wanted the house.
she still lives there today and in summer she'll sit under it in the shade , her husband built a large bird table on the underneath and she'll sit and feed the birds for hours on end. that tree still stands to this day and it's a good memory for us too since we planted it from a sapling and cared for it for over 10 years.

Here’s a plan for a nice spring or summer day Ashley:- Jump on that train again, get off 10 minutes later in Caerphilly. Walk for 5 minutes to the far side of the castle. Sit on the wall overlooking the lake. Behold the other side of the hills that surround Cardiff. Take a moment to look through 360 degrees. I never tire of that. You are looking at the cradle of the industrial revolution, where coal and steel and railways came from. That, and a view familiar to Norman conquerors.

I’m looking forward to seeing more as you explore the cities & countryside. You really must get to see Wales play at the Principality Stadium as the atmosphere is phenomenal. There are numerous videos on TH-cam which will give you a basic understanding of this fantastic game. Make sure you look for the rules of Rugby Union as there is an alternative code called Rugby League & that differs in many ways. Best wishes on your travels 👍

To a lot of Americans it does seem like it is a step back in time because of the stonework and such. Also how it has open fields that anyone is allowed to walk through. Definitely not an American thing. So amazing. Reminds me of the the series called outlander!

There’s loads to explore in the Newport area.
Caerleon is a Roman town filled with ancient relics. I’d take a look at Rogerstone’s Fourteen Locks. Cwmcarn Drive, Wentwood and their respective viewpoints are all well worth a call. Remember to soak in stunning views at Ridgeway and Catsash.

How strange, I was just thinking about you and wondering how you were getting on in our beautiful country. I'm so pleased that you're enjoying your time so far. As you may have guessed by my name, I'm Welsh and live in North Wales. I was 49 when I first went to Cardiff and that was only because of work. I've since been quite a few times! Looking forward to your next vlog and seeing your lovely smiling face xxx

    Hi,
Glad you're making the most of Cardiff. I live just down the road in Barry, also lots of beautiful places here e.g beach, beautiful forest walks. Just 20 minutes on the train. Hope you enjoyed the city centre!

Good to have Ash back with (I hope) regular videos. So much to explore! The Gower (one of my 2 fave places), Welsh Marches (England Wales border so mostly Herefordshire/Shropshire), Big Pit, Brecon hills, Forest of Dean, Pembrokeshire, Wye valley, Barry (aka Craig & Aimee although you've already explored them). Then it's on to Mid Wales, then North Wales.....so many places, so much to see and do!

This came up on my recommended videos, started the video and realised you’re in Llantwit Major at the start! I’m from Llantwit but live in Cardiff now, so coincidental! Hope you’re enjoying it here x

Thanks Ashley, that was lovely. I’ve only been to Cardiff once, even though I’m originally from Wales. I took my Mam there for a few days for her 80th birthday. We had a lovely time, so it has special memories. We had a really special treat as we went to see an opera performed by the Welsh National Opera in the Millennium Centre. As well as rugby, music has a special place in Welsh culture.
Have you learned any Welsh yet?

Welcome! You need to see out beautiful castle here in Caerphilly, only 8 miles north of Cardiff! It's the 2nd larget of it's type in Europe. I'm a former resident of Llantwit Major too. My parents used to run the Boverton Castle...it was where I grew up..

Welcome to Wales. I have lived in Cardiff for 5 of the last 7 years and me and my partner are planning to move back in the summer. It’s a beautiful city and is well placed for you to explore the rest of Wales, the U.K. and also to jump off to Europe too.
