After killing everything here, I always spend a few minutes wandering back through the rooms to look at all the corpses and reminisce on all the hectic carnage.
I had heard that somewhere, yeah. Pretty cool fact. And then when they got around to doing Doom II, Sandy Petersen (I'm guessing it was him) added on and expanded upon this map.

You play very well as usual, to me it was hard to complete.

My only Doom map design - that never left the graph paper it was designed on sadly - had a toxic waste pit in the final room that was flagged as a secret simply because I thought if Dead Simple can have a silly secret area, I might as well have one too!!
Lol, that's quite all right. In my teenage years, I've designed at least six maps (though none have made it into any major Wads out there), but I remember having trouble deciding where to tag secrets. It was weird.
BigMacDavis kinda late, but it seems to be a mistake. They had the room itself be a secret area, but than added the central platforms later. So one secret room got divided up and they never changed the 'secret' numerical flag in the newly divided sectors back to 0. Remember that vanilla Doom back in the day didn't have an onscreen notification for finding a secret - hence why this became overlooked, and why the room at the start isn't considered a secret (ID forgot TO flag it, it seems).
@@ShadesMan I believe so too.. The room and the platform consists of 3 sectors, and they marked the whole room, including the 2 sectors on the stairs/platform making it 3 sectors as secret areas. Remember, the editor was 2D top down, so the room would have had a purple sector with a red spot in the middle(platform) most likely the designer just selected the 2 platform sectors and marked them purple secret as well, so that it visually covered the whole room, not thinking that he actually made 3 secret borders.
Playing this map for the first time without watching a walkthrough like this before, leads to frustration when you discover there's a cyber demon behind the blue door, so you run away and open the yellow door and the cyber demon is still there, so you quickly try to open the blue door behind the yellow door hoping to hide and find a good place to fight it, but the teleporting bastard is also behind that one! This is a funny map. I finished it yesterday on UV from a pistol start without saving after a zillion attempts. Enemies come from all around you so you have to be careful not to wake them up early. You have to kill the pain-ass elementals as fast as they wake up oherwise the lost souls will toast you. You also have to preserve ammo by using berserk fist and infight when possible. You must use the night vision wisely, this map has many dark areas. Agree about the (too) many secrets. BTW your walkthroughs are fantastic! (looking forward to HL2 ep 1&2, when you find the time)

Aaah my personal favourite from all of the D2 maps. The ease with which you move and humiliate the enemies is beyond comparison.
Trying to find secrets/ hidden ammo. Having trouble with this map. So many damn hordes. Your videos are awesome. Actually watch a lot of yours to get tips and tactics. Fun to watch
That's a pretty good assessment of the map I'd say. Every problem I'd find was addressed here. While I don't exactly agree with the assessment of Tricks and Traps, I do agree with this one as well as the last. All and all, a good walkthrough though. The channel came up when I entered in Tricks and Traps. A good channel and sub worthy. Thanks for the uploads!
Unfortunately I had to make the walk of shame on this level and cheat because I had absolutely no ammo for this map. Call me a loser if you want I could not go anywhere when I had no ammo and pain elementals.
So THATS where the blue keycard is! I shouldn't have to look up a walkthrough to find it! Thanks man this was really helpful. I also didn't know about the megasphere either.
Great work as usual BigMacDavis, you hit the nail on the head, the map design is ok but way toooo many secrets it does take the fun out of it! I remember playing this map in my early days and thinking that the amount of secrets in it was cool and a little exotic but the older I get the more annoying it becomes but at least to obliverate the cyberdemon takes the edge of tedious secret gathering. Thanks for the shout out you are very kind and I am stoked from your kind words! Looking forward to Circle of Death another one of the classic maps of Doom 2 genre!
Yeah, no problem at all, man. Your videos are better than what most people put out there, so great job on that. About this map, I agree. I used to hate this map, but over time, I've grown to like it to an extent. The secrets still kinda bug me.
***** Once again thanks I have been slack with my uploads due to some early starts and late finishes at work! I plan on getting back on track tomorrow or late tonight it is 0500hrs where I am now in Aussie heading out for another fun day at work...not I will try and get "And the dead shall rise up" and posted tonight, so look out for that one my friend! Take care!
Take your time, my friend. Real life and work always come first. I will be looking forward to the next upload, but I still have yet to watch your two most recent ones. So if anything, I got that. Take care, my friend.
I tend to prefer the maps with large open areas but one thing about it is a severe lack of ammo. You burn through it all in the beginning, then get to a room with 75 monsters and its like "dude, wheres the F'in ammo"! If you dont have a supreme strategy like BigMacDavis you can do idkfa and still soon end up barehanded against some quite formidable opponents.
Love your walkthroughs definitely helps me cause I have not played this on my xbox in a few years, found almost all but one secret by myself on ultra violence difficulty. Hardly had any ammo but just had to use my chain saw a few times but I was able to make a comeback
The previous two levels had depleted my ammo. I have been trying to go through this with the chainsaw and some clever dodging. Pain elementals are reallly the least pleasant thing abiut this game so far.
This was crazy... and kind of fun. I decided to just run n gun and see how far i could go without dying. Don't stop moving, don't let your finger off the trigger. It was chaotic as hell and I ran out of shotgun ammo more than once (which made things interesting) and ended the level with only 7, so I'll probably do a more conservative runthrough for my levelsaves. Somehow, I made it through - I didnt expect to make it past that big room with all the soldiers and the demon that burp the flaming skulls and the hidden bits inside the pillars, like, THEY JUST KEPT COMING - all the way up to the Cyber Demon. I went through the wrong door and he teleported to right on top of me. I had some pretty big laughs at that (I even did it once or twice more just to make sure that ACTUALLY happened). These games are unbelievably fun.
Big Mac Davis You Know I Want To Tell You That This Was Actually My Most Favorite Doom 2 Level Beginning At The Very Age Of 11 When I Had First Began Playing Doom 2 On My Own For The Very First Time And That The Refueling Base Is Also One Of The Most Exciting Levels To Engage In Some Of The Heaviest Battles From All Around Every Single Corner Of This Specific Map Everywhere I Look When Venturing From One Particular Area To The Very Next That Is ! 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
it's odd how at 7:33, you notice it requires a blue key, however at 7:45 you were able to open it, doom 2 has messed up on this map for that part LOL. I guess they think if you were trapped from the secret they had no choice... But this map had too much enemies despite the name of refueling base. Can't wait for the next video.
Yup, you're absolutely right. I'm not sure if that side of the Blue Door (at 7:33) even requires a key at all. But at 7:45, on the other side of the Blue Door, it does. But you're right, it's probably to keep people from being trapped in the secret if they don't have the Blue Key yet.
The Refueling Base Level/Map 10 is actually one of my Favorite Levels In Doom 2 And That’s all because It’s always has a very high Reputation Of Some Of the most heaviest Battles Up Against all of The Demonic Entities possible😉😉😉😉 !!!!!
Definitely. Alien Vendetta, Hell Revealed, Requiem, Momento Mori, and Scythe, just to name a few I'll be doing Walkthroughs for. They will all come eventually.
Back in 1995 when this game came out, the name of this map became oddly appropriate to myself and a friend. I once arrived here with 1 bullet, and nothing more (I had all the weapons, just nothing for ammo). And my friend once arrived here, and looked over his shoulder at me, and said "I have 1 cell". Refueling Station seemed an appropriate place to be lol
Hey Dude! so cool, how there are so many different ways to finish levels. I tried like half a dozend styles (i always ended up having no ammo, LOL) to clear the Refueling Base :) In the end I do and now I checked out how you did it. Its soooo way2different from my style :) I really like that fact! Have a nice DOOM, and I hope you had a nice time with your woman, since I felt you ditched me by cancelling the last saturdays stream! Love your streams, keep doing that stuff! Seeeya! Marc from Germany! "MEIN LEBEN!"
Brutal Doom replaces most of the invisibilities with bound Marines, whom you can free and they'll fight with you. Very very handy. One of them beat me to the big dark garage room behind the blue door and slaughtered everything before I got there. So I was able to use the second invulnerability to take out all the imps and the arachnatron in the next room.
I'm only now, in 2021, playing Doom 2 for the first t ime and this one is killing me. I didnt get through The Pit in very good shape and man am I blowing ammo like crazy here.
I love Doom 2, but I'm just your average player, not all that great but I have fun. By this time in the game, I'm also hurting for ammo so this is doubly-tough. I normally play on the medium difficulty though (Hurt me plenty), and UV is just beyond my skills.
I came to this video simply because I wanted to check something and I knew it was one this map a bunch (what the logo was all over the stuff, couldn't remember was UAC) and what I have to say.... I ended up watching the whole video and I couldn't help but think that the narration was like I was watching some kind of new employee training video, you just had that kind of sound going on lol
To me, it's a combination of fast-paced action with the music, level design, and variety of enemies. That combination was perfect and I love Doom even to this day.
I totally forgot about that Cyberdemon teleporting in once you go through the yellow door. I ate a rocket on my most recent attempt and had to start over. Just my luck!
By the time I got here I was rather low on ammo from the previous level. I feel like can't beat the level solely because I don't have enough ammo and there are sooo many enemies. Which is frustrating. I don't know how you're supposed to beat this without building up tons of ammo from prior levels.
This is the map where i stopped being able to finish the levels on Ultra Violence on my own without some help from walkthroughs. It really comes down to running out of ammo because im not finding the secrets. I came into this level on my first playthrough with 12 shells 153 bullets and 14 rockets. So i very quickly ran out of everything when i triggered all the enemies all at once running around looking for ammo
Thanks for the walkthrough. Actually, for some reason I don't like the maps between Refueling Base (nr. 10) and Suburbs (nr. 18). Before and after are awesome. And Wolfenstein and Grosse ofcourse.
I swear when I try to use the super shotgun it only kills one demon at a time, even when I'm in a room full of them. I'm using gzdoom and the brutal doom mod, so maybe it's a glitch idk
The best way to deal with this level without ending up with hardly any ammo is this. If you play the previous level carefully you will enter this one with full ammo and 200 health. Run down the stairs, and run through all the nearby rooms, including the doors triggered by you running to each end and containing the pain elementals. Run back to the stairs and watch all the enemies fight each other, then pick off the ones that get to you. That takes care of the majority of the enemies right there. There should be more than enough ammo for you to hit the next level at 200 percent health and full ammo.
Why's everyone complaining about ammo being short on this map? In Ultra-Violence mode I got 100% kills and even finished it with maxed ammo for ALL the weapons, without the use of cheats.
There's plenty of ammo if you manage to find all of the secrets it seems. I just played it for the first time, and it destroyed me. Entered the level with no ammo, didn't find enough. Chainsawing pain elementals. World of pain.
I hereby state i'm enjoying the brilliantly superb classic 90's The Ultimate Doom, Doom 2: Hell on Earth and Final Doom on PC, however, the game is labyrinthine as fuck. There's certain levels whereby it's too dark to see what's contained in the room or demons appraching and lauching fireballs at me, fortunately i utilize the map. If there wasn't a map in the 90's Doom series i'd therewith probably never have ever been able to complete some of the heavily immense labyrinth maze-like levels, there's plenty of them believe you me. There are a variety of video games i enjoy playing, however i'll certainly always visit the magnificent 90's era Doom series despite an unspecified proportion of levels being a pain in the ass at times. All of the satanic imagery and various demon enemies incoporated therein make Doom full of splendid incredible excellence to me.
Damn playing this on Gameboy Edition is tuff but who has the gameboy anymore? I got tye emulator and downloaded this map im playkng it on Hurt me plenty I always get lost in the maps so I come to your videos and Find my way out,. I love your Doom 2 Walkthroughs becuz you dont swear Or say Sexual Things in the Dialogue. Ita nice hearing someone Talk Normal and and saying these dumb new worxs thats people are making up. Your walkthroughs are very helpful especially when the secrets are right in front of me.
I actually had a lot of luck sticking to the start hallway. I would run out lure a couple guys towards me, hide behind the wall and chainsaw them to death. It was slow going but I used maybe 16 bullets.
This was the first map of all of Doom and Doom 2 (so far) which I didn't really enjoy playing. Never played the map, and my conclusion is: unless you know all the secrets, you won't have enough ammo.
Ive been playing along with these videos but haven't careful enough with ammo. Now I'm here and afraid I'm going to have to start over because I dont think this one can be done with the chainsaw. Not by me anyway
Also love the way you explain the game with a calm voice. I hate when ppl scream and cruse. I have been playing this game off and on since 1998. First I on Super Nes then ps1 and later PC. Even messed around with Doom 64 .
Hey idk if you check any comments from now but that cyberdemon area ....that's a blue door you go to when you finish with him. You don't have the blue key yet. So what's up there.
I've played this map twice in a row and I missed 4 enemies both times. I got all 18 secrets and triple checked the entire map, but couldn't find the last 4 enemies. Yes I checked the secrets again to make sure no lost souls got trapped. So what could be the problem? Any idea?
This marks the point in the game where I start to find secrets while trying to just finish the damn level, while being a 3% health.
Quite the difficulty spike isn't it?
Same exact thing i need to do!
lol same

7:33 Weird.
Blue door.
Yellow key inventory.
These games are unbelievably fun.
i wish i could watch this now
The music plus the game make this the most Doom Metal clip on TH-cam! : - )
What do you say to the dead?
Will you forgive me for living?
Can't believe the things that they said
Wonderful day for a killing
It's killing me!
3:05 "Since they are very annoying" LOL
I went that map straightly through but you are a super strategist! Your way appears to be easier!
This is one my most favoritest maps ever but the amount of enemies is insane
Great walkthrough helpful and well explained as always
Thank you for gameplay. I love this game and this music.
First level that I had to look up all the secrets not because I wanted a 100%, but because I simply wanted to complete the level
it's odd how at 7:33, you notice it requires a blue key, however at 7:45 you were able to open it, doom 2 has messed up on this map for that part LOL.
Just finished this one on Ultra-Violence, so fun!
The Refueling Base Level/Map 10 is actually one of my Favorite Levels In Doom 2 And That’s all because It’s always has a very high Reputation Of Some Of the most heaviest Battles Up Against all of The Demonic Entities possible😉😉😉😉 !!!!!
Speaking of Memento Mori, have you ever thought of doing a walkthrough on a fan-made Megawad?
Definitely. Alien Vendetta, Hell Revealed, Requiem, Momento Mori, and Scythe, just to name a few I'll be doing Walkthroughs for. They will all come eventually.
Very well done and very well explained again! You have so much skill!
Hey, thank you, my friend, I'm so glad these help you. :)
BigMacDavis I just love to see your tutorial’s and listen to you! It feels so great! Your voice is simply perfect!
What do you say to the Dead? Will you forgive me for living?
Back in 1995 when this game came out, the name of this map became oddly appropriate to myself and a friend. I once arrived here with 1 bullet, and nothing more (I had all the weapons, just nothing for ammo). And my friend once arrived here, and looked over his shoulder at me, and said "I have 1 cell". Refueling Station seemed an appropriate place to be lol
If you handle ammo well in this map, then yes, you can really stock up on ammo here.
Thank you, I can pass the first 11 levels at 100 per cent.
You tell the things very slow but so entendible. 👍
Hey Dude!
so cool, how there are so many different ways to finish levels.
THE MUSIC IS AMAZING IN THIS LEVEL
Brutal Doom replaces most of the invisibilities with bound Marines, whom you can free and they'll fight with you. Very very handy. One of them beat me to the big dark garage room behind the blue door and slaughtered everything before I got there. So I was able to use the second invulnerability to take out all the imps and the arachnatron in the next room.
When the Doom Guy grabs the BFG, you already know there will be Pain Elementals soon 😉
Ah good ol times! Even so this music here really isn't that bad! Project Brutal for this remake theme is even better I say!
I died like four times on this level because I was low on ammo but fifth time's the charm I guess
HEY BMD KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! YOUR WALKTHROUGHS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much. I'm glad you like them.
what made you play doom in the first place? for me it was the variety of enemies and the music? my god the music is awesome
Here, I have done a Map10 run from a Pistol Start. Hope this video helps you: th-cam.com/video/DUW9dN3ARr8/w-d-xo.html
@@BigMacDavis thanks. I came back to the game and it took me hours but I did manage to get through it.
This is the map where i stopped being able to finish the levels on Ultra Violence on my own without some help from walkthroughs. It really comes down to running out of ammo because im not finding the secrets. I came into this level on my first playthrough with 12 shells 153 bullets and 14 rockets. So i very quickly ran out of everything when i triggered all the enemies all at once running around looking for ammo
ur 1 of the best gamer walkthrough............THANK YOU!
Thank you, my friend. And thank you for watching. :)
This level is brutal if you start out with low ammo.
On this level I realised that choosing Ultra-Violence during first playthrough was a mistake. Doom 2 Hurt Me Plenty = Doom Ultra-Violence
Thanks for the walkthrough. Actually, for some reason I don't like the maps between Refueling Base (nr. 10) and Suburbs (nr. 18). Before and after are awesome. And Wolfenstein and Grosse ofcourse.
I ran out of ammo on this level, giving it another try soon
I have a Pistol Start video on this map if you're interested. It shows you how to manage ammo better.
@@BigMacDavis I'll have a look, tbh I was stunned, not only did I run out of ammo, but I've played through the game on UV before no issues with ammo
you should do marathon walkthroughs, i don't know if you've ever played that
Marathon is great, free, and can run on a potato.
I swear when I try to use the super shotgun it only kills one demon at a time, even when I'm in a room full of them. I'm using gzdoom and the brutal doom mod, so maybe it's a glitch idk
i keep coming back to this walkthrough, you are the real doom guy! do you have an idea of how many times did you finish doom2 in your life?
thanks man! i was having alot of trouble with this level, but the video helped alot
Urli Alejandro Me 2 haha
There's plenty of ammo if you manage to find all of the secrets it seems. I just played it for the first time, and it destroyed me. Entered the level with no ammo, didn't find enough. Chainsawing pain elementals. World of pain.
Fuck! That's elegance itself! ¡Gracias, maestro!
Hey, glad you enjoyed! :)
Im Glad that u came back jeff ^^ I dont want to be an annoying person but maybe u should start with HL Blue shift or max payne 1-2 series?
Blue Shift will start up just as soon as Doom II is finished.
Hey BigMac, is there a possibility that you play Blood 1 from 1997 in any near future?
Thanks, love your videos!
Yes, Blood is planned to take place in the next three or so Walkthroughs.
All ways loved your name. Reminds me of a late 1980's rapper name.
Also love the way you explain the game with a calm voice. I hate when ppl scream and cruse. I have been playing this game off and on since 1998. First I on Super Nes then ps1 and later PC. Even messed around with Doom 64 .
Spasibo my dear comrade
This map is my favorite map so intense
I'm starting to question my choice in not saving all the time and therefore starting each level with only the pistol...
Hey idk if you check any comments from now but that cyberdemon area ....that's a blue door you go to when you finish with him. You don't have the blue key yet. So what's up there.
I fucking hate this map, not enough ammo, so im always stuck with the chainsaw.
+Antichrist2000
>"you're nearing the end of the game"
Yeah no mate there's still 22 maps to go
I've played this map twice in a row and I missed 4 enemies both times. I got all 18 secrets and triple checked the entire map, but couldn't find the last 4 enemies. Yes I checked the secrets again to make sure no lost souls got trapped. So what could be the problem? Any idea?
