    Thanks, as always. You’re helping so many golfers including me and I hope your business is prospering.
    The extension thing is one of the least understood counter-intuitive facts about the golf swing. NO ONE looking at a golf swing would see this happening. It’s a game changer.

    It’s so interesting to learn from a teacher who understands why and can separate it from what you see in order to teach how. Bravo!

    During the second minute you said that your spine tilts towards the target at the top of your back swing. Within the next minute you said that it stays relatively the same at the top in relation to the start (which would be away from the target).

    Nice one Clay. Bk mrk for review again. When I focus on discipline, I am now hitting the driver consistently. When going back to my irons, already 20 yd improvement without even trying. I think driver training should be done more in the beginning of one s golf journey. It teaches you what you have to do. Emphasis have to do. Thank you so much for your nice videos.

      Hey, thanks for the interest, but Clay doesn't offer private lessons. He focuses all his time on making videos and running the business. This allows him to help as many people as possible. Robin, our Director of Instruction, does private lessons in the Orlando, FL area. If interested then follow this link: topspeedgolf.com/in-person-lessons-with-robin-rosado/. Play well! Hi Clay, Really enjoy your instruction. I realized something fascinating from this video. It seems to me that "lateral bend" and "reverse pivot" are similar in a way. The difference is what the hips are doing. If the hips are sliding back and then forward, it's a reverse pivot. If the hips are rotating, it's a proper lateral bend--to the left, then to the right. I've noticed in the modern swing, with the braced right leg and minimal hip rotation, that many players seem to have a reverse pivot (see In Gee Chun). This video has helped me see what is actually going on with the body.

  • @jasontroutman9845
    @jasontroutman9845 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Extension on backswing is my trouble area, I see a ton of videos on reverse pivots and I have the exact opposite where my hips move forward toward target and head moves back. Good info, I tried working on this and it almost feels like I’m doing a reverse pivot on purpose but on camera it does not show any reverse pivot. Odd feeling but hopefully feels natural after practice.

      Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard thank you for sharing. Do more of these. Understanding why and how the body works is equally just important in a lesson as a swing lesson and drills itself. Correct shoulder crossings is a big one too for fixing over the top and slices.

    Hi Clay thanks for the advice! One question, I seem to have way more rotation in my hips than my thoracic spine and I have been a bit inconsistent with strike. Any advice on how much hip rotation is too much?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brian, typically 60 degrees would be the max. You're average Tour player is about 50 degrees. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    I watched this bud before but then switched to the stack and tilt system. But I found too many inconsistencies. The stable fluid spine is a better concept . How we, I struggle with left side flexion on the takeaway. Any way you could peel that back more?

  • @amfohr

    Great video, my understanding of the side bent was a bit different. I thought the spine would be straight in side bent, which means that the hips would also be tilted. As for as I understand now is that only the upper part of the spine is in side bent, is that correct?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, as you go through impact, the entire spine is going to bend and curve to the right if you're a right hander. It essentially the same thing as standing straight up with your hand to your side and then tilting your spine down so that your right hand goes toward your right knee. I hope that helps. Specifically the flexion is at the hips and anterior rotation of the pelvis not at the lumbar spine although there is lumbar extension in the follow-through.
    Otherwise lumbar flexion=back pain.

    How does one know if he has too much FLEXION. That is, bent over TOO much at setup. Any tips on how much Flexion (forward spine tilt) one should have at setup?

    How long do u need to be playing where u feel these things are more natural in your game. I have been playing for 10 weeks and it's just too much to have to think about. It's getting better but I always tend to forget something in the sequence. not turning enough or forgetting to hinge wrists. wow its tough. do u just turn up at the range one day and realise u can do it without thinking. but even good players find it tough. I guess golf people are people that like a challenge

    • @arjanpetersen
      @arjanpetersen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      5 to 10years...that roughly will cost you to get consistent.

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James, this is different for everyone but it will take some time. The more you do something the more you will get comfortable with it. This is true of about any skill. Think about when you first started learning to type. At first, you had to look for every letter on the keyboard and peck each one individually. I'm not sure about your typing ability now but you likely don't even have to think about where every key is. You just think of the word and type it. Clay has set up the Top Speed Golf System so that you can go through each piece step by step and build your swing. Focusing on one thing at a time and ingraining that motion before you go on to the next piece. It's the fastest way to build your swing. If you're thinking about shoulder turn, wrist cock, and other things all at the same time then you'll likely spin in circles and it will be more difficult to improve. I hope that helps. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

      James, I don't know much...but I do know more than most about what you're going through. It is my theory that it is NOT ENOUGH to just feel naturally and forget the fundamentals. Instinct will take you straight to, in my opinion, exactly where your innate talent is--which may end up being a 15 handicapper -- or a 2. However, with proper training and lessons you can avoid some, not all, of the faults that you would groove or ingrain that will hamper your swing for life. A bad grip, bad posture, early release etc, etc....Clay's videos are incredibly detailed--and some are better for beginners than others (obviosly). Good luck!

      The golf swing is an incredibly complex set of movements. On top of that is the proper timing of those movements. So, like any complicated exercise that needs to be reproducible it's going to require a lot of practice (ie., repetition) until your body can feel the right set and sequence of movements. But it's totally doable to get acceptable within a few years IF you put the time in, and don't burn out in the process. Good luck!

    whenever i go to the driving range and practice my backswing theres this pain or soreness on my lower back, is this something that I am doing wrong with my posture or my swing? (i do not have any medical conditions)
