1971 flying into Clark field on a MAC flight from Saigon, Vietnam, I saw a flight of F-100 Super Sabre's in formation over the field, what a great sight that was...........The Philippine pilots made this formation look easy as they flew with grace and speed...............They will always be our brothers in arms.................

The asshats in our gov had perfectly good ones, pair for, upgraded, and they purposefully made excuses, mothballed em then tried toneell them at lunatic prices knowing they wouldnt sell then PAID more tax $$$ again to some relative/friend to destroy these perfectly good beautiful machines. They refused to let anyone have them no museums, no former staff that had strapped theirnasses into them like my dad.. no one they paid millions to destroy them instead of donating them to perfectly good safe homes. That same gov I've learned since also the same time period changed the rules for pensions interest gained when a person dies so their friends that own the pension investment firms get to KEEP the interest tax free for the pension base for upto a year and not a cent goes to the pensioners estate anymore it's legal robbery of the middle/lower class yet again
F5E is a beautiful aircraft. I have always thought its next evolution as the F20 Tigershark would be the new standard for emerging air forces alongside the F18 and F16. Just a wistful thought.

The s demise was due to dirty politics not because it was lacking as a fighter design. In many ways it was superior to the "competition" aka F16 As for the f-8 ir is a child of the F5 design and in essence a sibling or cousin to the f18

Ahh the good old days I remember seeing this old F-5s here in the philippines whenever I hear one I usually go out of my house to look for them damn I miss those days now I dont really see fighter jets I only see Ov-10 broncos flying.
Those are some highly modernized F5e Love that plane. Switzerland used to have them in service. And they are still flown by the Aerobatic Group. It is still a fast nimble and capable fighter.
The F5E also comes in a tandem trainer version. Paul Allen of Microsoft fame had an F5E which can still be seen on You Tube. As you know, Paul past away from cancer some years ago. This is an F5 because it has hard-points and leading edge slats, however it is not a Tigershark which is designated the F20.
My salute to Northrop. The F-5E proved to be the American equivalent of the legendary MiG 21. Fast, agile and tenacious and still very much in service with a number of Air Forces around the world. Cheers Northrop.

The F-5E is only called "Tiger". The Tigershark refers to the F-20, a prototype made by Northrop which consisted in a modified F-5, powered by an F-18 engine, the F404.
The F-5A/B were the Freedom Fighters. The F-5C was called the Skoshi (Small) Tiger and was given a combat evaluation in the Vietnam conflict. The F-5E/F were the Tiger IIs, and the F-5G/F-20 was the Tiger Shark.
One of my absolute favs and even more sweet driving it.. old but dont mistake that for capability... The F5 remains one extremely capable and deadly design if used right.

This is an F5-T not an F-E and has had many modernizations and upgrades applied Again proving this is an exceptional airframe design and one of my absolute favs to drive. Also the RTAF/s pick of the Grippen is perfectly following suit since I have long said it is the equivalent of a modern day F5.. cheap. exceptionally easy to maintain. tiny and very very deadly if used right. That is why I fully advocate for Canada to pick the Grippen NG aka E/F for replacing our old f18s (that really were not a perfect pick by any means) and to build the Grippen under license the same as we did the F5s
Totally agree. I actually, if practical, wish Canada could get a fleet of f5 or f20 with modern upgrades. Why not? For the price of 1 f35 , we can have like 5 F20/F5's

Not to mention again we can easily build the Canuckified version here and even help work with SAAB to improve it beyond it's current capabilities which are exceptionally good esp vs the 2 pathetic bad choices we have officially.. Now for the F20... if it had been wiser ppl in charge back in 77+... then we might have had that but better still we could have had a Canuckified F-18L instead which would have eliminated the only real downsides for the 20.. (single engine and lower max load due to low wing mount).. but again I was not in charge etc obviously.. so lets hope that the idiot in office now continues to be a predictable asshole as mentioned before and that politics works in our fav for once in my lifetime!
Special memory of mine living in Ubon Ratchathani was seeing RTAF F-5Es flying over every morning. I wanted to meet the pilots but my local Thai GF refused to translate for me to approach the gate guard to find out where the pilots usually hung out for drinks after work :) Question for the channel owner: Do RTAF pilots learning the F-5E use DCS for practice?
The F-5 is a timeless warbird always nice to see it didn't know that the Royal Thai Air Force still flys them. If I may ask are the origin markings been painted by hand and not using a spray gun? Cause it looks like.
The ground crew may have been wearing ear plugs instead of headsets. Plugs are not as effective at deadening sound, but they help. Then again, they may not have been using noise protectors which isn't real smart.

Good to see F-5s are still flying. I remember watching Canadian CF-5A's at airshows many years ago. I always thought they were sleak looking beauties.
