Cape Town is a little crazy with the water crisis at the moment. I have lived her for 18 years and find that South Africans are some of the most resourceful people on the planet. They have a saying "boere maakas n plan" they always make plan.

Hey! Capetonian here, in terms of not finding bottled waters at stores. People are buying +5L water bottles and filling them up at certain supermarkets. Also think it be really cool if you used your platform & meet-up to do a beach clean up x

wish we could send you the rain from France, it's been raining non stop for quite a while now (at least since last November), it's flooding in a lot of regions. We can't take it anymore !! Good luck, hope you can enjoy your time anyway and the water crisis does not last too long. Regarding your tooth surgery, no worries (had it done a long time ago and it went quite smoothly) plus it's a great excuse to eat lots of ice cream !!

Thanks so much for talking about the water crisis in South Africa-- I heard about it on public radio the other night and it's so scary! I don't think most people realize how pressing of an issue access to water is. It's a huge problem in a lot of the world, and the only thing that really keeps it from happening in the U.S. is privilege and money. I appreciate that you're using your platform to spread awareness and raise money for the issue. Capetown looks like an amazing city and I can't wait to follow your adventures there. Much love!

As a Capetonian living in the northern suburbs, I can confirm that there are no bottles of water in the stores where I live anymore either. This water crisis is so scary. I've also had to stop showering daily so I feel you, Raya 😥 I also just wanted to say that it's really generous of you to be donating to the cause, even though you don't live here ❤ and I hope everything went well with the wisdom teeth! I had all of mine removed three years ago and all I can remember is feeling really itchy after a few days where my teeth used to be 😂 that was probably the worst part for me, so hopefully that'll be the worst thing you experience! Lastly, a meet up would be great! Kirstenbosch or a beach day or a hike all sound really good to me ✌

You can help save water by drastically reducing or eliminating your animal consumption. Average daily water footprint: vegan - 300 gallons, vegetarian - 1200 gallons, meat eater - 4000 gallons. 2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of beef. 477 gallons of water are required to produce 1lb. of eggs; almost 900 gallons of water are needed for 1lb. of cheese. cowspiracy.com/facts

If you are concerned about not having enough water for bathing, but still want to conserve water, I recommend buying buckets (one 20l and one 10l) and a scoop to shower with. Fill your bucket up and take a bucket bath. I'm a Peace Corps Volunteer so I don't have running water. 10l is enough when I don't wash my hair, and 20l is more than enough when I do wash my hair. If you can actually see how much water you use each day (by putting water in buckets and then using it), it becomes much easier. Hardest part is the toilet, but as long as you're keeping your greywater for flushing, you should be fine.

  • @catercoz2491
    @catercoz2491 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Raya, it is so good to see you both settled for a time. I hope it brings you closer and recharges your batteries fully. As for water, I live in a drought area and your water wise measures are second nature to me. We haven't been quite that bad, but very, very close. You will find it changes the way you see water and you will never be able to bear seeing it wasted again. It's a hard lesson to learn, but worthwhile for the overall good of the planet. Take very good care of yourselves.

  • @jimw966

What a cozy and nice place to live for a few months. Your “office” alone makes it all worth it. We have a well, so when we lose power during a blizzard or hurricane, we have no water. We always fill up the tub if it is a major storm just in case we need it for the toilets. I can rig the toilet to flush manually and not use as much water. Always a pain, so your idea of collecting shower water and brushing water to flush is great. Hope your wisdom tooth surgery goes well or did. Not sure when you filmed this. I’ll be watching all of these to help out with the views.

Hi Raya 😁 I'm from Cape Town! Welcome to our beautiful home. With buying bottled water, there is another alternative which is going to collect spring water to drink. There is a spring in in Newlands where you can go to fill up bottles with water to drink. The queues are long and it's very busy but ya its a good alternative to buying bottled water or drinking from the tap. I think there might also be anither spring water point on Boyes drive but I'm not sure about that one. Hope you guys do a meet up soon, sending love. Caitlin xx

The place is SO you guys, I'm happy you guys finally get to relax and reprogram and enjoy without the rush of traveling. Cape Town is on my bucket list since seeing Louis' vlogs, and I did read about the water shortage, and I wish everyone the best. We had A LOT of water last year after our winter thaw.. so much so our water was rising pretty fast. we were told to stay away from any streams, waterfalls etc.. in the area due to rushing water (my city has a lot of waterfalls there are 125). Our waterfronts were very water logged and it cause A LOT of flooding and damage... and the rain came through out the spring and summer also... All the best to you guys in the next few months... :)

When I had my wisdom teeth out, I don’t remember it preventing me from doing much after the first day. Keeping my mouth clean, by swishing salt water and later squirting water with a syringe, was the annoying part, but not really painful as long as you’re gentle with the syringe. :) I’m sure you’ll do great!

Hey Raya! I got my wisdom teeth out last year in November! For me, getting plenty of rest, forcing myself to eat even though it didn't feel good and cleaning the extraction sites were most important.
The areas where they remove the teeth collect food particles and are just healing so it is important to not skip the cleaning process.
Also having some down time helps greatly.
You'll be fine though! Its definitely easier than it seems. :)

You probably already know that but if you put a couple of bricks into the toilets water reservoir you save a lot of water when you flush! (be careful if your toilet has an unstable reservoir because brick weight a lot). So happy to hear you took it upon you too to help your temporary home with the water crisis! We need more people like you! Often nomads kinda detach from the places they inhabit.

I think you and LC should make a world tour show, where you just go from Not-for-profit to Not-for-profit (NGOs, Charities, etc) and feature them. Between you guys you have a huge and diverse audience. That kind of publicity is really hard for NGO/NFPs to get. I know you both have done some of this over the years, but it has never been the overt and intentional central theme of your travels, and it could be. You have the mic, pass it around. Truly a force for good. Keep at it. Peace.

Start with only half the amount of painkillers they tell you to take. The meds made me sick and vomit which caused an infection in my stitches. Lots of fluids. Lots of smoothies and fresh juice to pump your body with vitamins. Sleep when you’re tired and rest rest rest. My friend was fine the day after her wisdom teeth were removed but I was out of commission for 2 weeks. Hope you are more like her experience!

If your face gets swollen from the wisdom teeth then chop up a white or yellow onion and put a bunch of salt on the onion. You will want to put the onion in like a cheese cloth material and put it on the area that is swollen (this decreases the swelling). It sounds crazy but it is an old family recipe and it actually works! I hope this helps you if you decide to try it out.

Congratulations on the move. Your place is great. May I suggest driving to Joberg and buying mass quantities of water.

Hey Raya! Some places you can look up for a meet up. Places I loved when I was living there, so it's outdoorsy. Paarl mountain, as in the actual pearls, it it close to the 'Taal monument'. BUT I am not a 100% sure how to get there anymore. Google will be your friend. ;-) Another place with another killer view is Stellenbosch mountains if you enter it from Coetsenburg Stadium's side. The last one I got, Helderberg nature reserve is close to Somerset West and has some awesome views too....
    Goodluck! and enjoy!

I hope you’re healing up well from your dental surgery ! Did Louis manage to round up some animals to visit you?
And your desk space is amazing !

Good morning Raya. Awesome Video ! What a crisis we have with this water though ! I love how the "tourists" are also aware of these problems and work together. Everyday i sit and think of solutions or ways to help but if everyone just works together we can make this. I really hope to meet you guys soon.
