Long story short: I am a motor journalist myself. My special subject area was and still is Porsche. What you give here from the best, surpasses EVERYTHING on the net. All the comparisons, the history and especially the footage - where does that come from, I only know that from the books for the 928 owners - are absolutely brilliant. My father picked up his 928 in Zuffenhausen with me in 1978. To LeMans videos they handed me jam sandwiches and cocoa in the brick building when I was eight years old, it's really not made up. Today, I drive an 928 S4. It's funny how history repeats itself. As an absolute 911-fan, I may say: the transaxles are so underrated that it hurts.
Amazing! @Little_Alesi : do you know if it is true that in a commercial brochure of the 928, one of the car was registered in Stuttgart and it’s plate was S - EX 928? 😅
I used to drive 928 GTS in Poland in 1997 and in this time it was a proper supercar very rare in Poland. I was 25 yo and it was the best time in my life 😁
Having had a 1986.5 version, I always thought I had the best of everything. The great 5.0 L 4 valve engine, better brakes, etc., the advances of the S4 but the style of the early bodies. The 'pipe organ' intakes gave it lovely midrange power, too. Best car I ever owned, and best car I ever drove, having innovative seat mounts and foot pedal adjustments to give me enough leg room to accomodate these excessively long legs comfortably.
Thanks so much for putting this together. The 928 was the car of my dreams in my youth. It was the car I lusted after and dreamed of owning. I never owned one, but briefly flirted with the idea of restoring one. I'll watch your restoration video and live vicariously instead! :D
Just had a first drive today in my 1983 euro s model. I do not understand some people call this a slow car to modern standards. She goes like a rocket!! What an absolute blast to drive. I have never experienced such a child like enthusiasm for a decade. And the exhaust sound. i do not understand why people start fidling around with the original exhaust it has a perfect lovely V8 rumble and when you rev it a perfectly balanced sound just enough never to much!
I had a 928 s4 loved it and sold it in my 30s....I am know looking for another 928 either another S4...but either a GT or GTS. Have had many 911s but time to go back, car was fantastic, great engineering and not that many around.
1985-86 US spec with the original body styling (front & rear) combined with the new 5 liter 32V motor & mated to the new Borg-Warner 5 speed transmission & updated suspension/wheel setup. Perfection 👌
My dad had a 85 & we both agree our favorite. Although I always had a soft spot for the 78 metallic blue & pasha interior featured in the original brochure. I loved the pasha seat so much that I made one into my office chair!
Just so you understand my brother and i are 2nd generation Porsche owners, our parents first car together was a 55 Porsche Speedster, dad was a factory Porsche mechanic starting in 1966, and we presently own 356, 914 4 and 914 6, mom had a 924, multiple 911's, 944, 944 turbo and 968's along with the 928's
That’s very interesting! I do think the earlier ones look better and ‘sharper’ whereas the older ones round off too many of the attractive parts of the car. Surely the newer ones must drive better though?
I've been lucky to own six 928's, the very first was a 1980, 4.5 and the last being 1994 - 928 GTS. What a fantastic car to own and drive. Just love em. When I had the GTS, I also had a 996-911 Turbo at the same time. That was a fantastic car too but not quite as cool as the GTS. There's just something about a 928, maybe it was because that's the poster I had on my bedroom wall as a kid. Great video Jay.
Wow! Six! I very much agree with you. This car touches something that my 996 couldn’t get to. Mine is not at all perfect and yet I love the way it makes me feel. Thanks for posting, Andrew.
Nice video…928GT’s had hot cams and are known to dyno at more like 350bhp 300 at the wheels - I honestly think that was ‘peak 928’ as they rev nice too and come on cam an absolute treat!
Sweet spot for me was the 928S update/S2. I prefer the looks of the earlier cars to those of the S4, and the MY84 update didn't give that much away in power and torque to the 5 litre 32 valve motor, at least in the "standard" versions. As it happened, I ended up with an ex-UK 928S2, brought into Australia within a year or so of being new.
Hi there, I'm a relatively new 928 owner but heavy You Tube enthusiast. This video is the most comprehensive, versus baggy video I've come across on 928's. So... thank you! Really thank you!! As the previous commentator said, the footage sources are great and it does surpass all the other videos on You Tube on the subject for conciseness and facts. Again thanks. You probably don't need any constructive criticism, and I wouldn't normally trouble a person or myself. But since I thought your vid was so perfect, and I've watched tons of 928 vids on here, I thought I'd comment... The pasted advert image link could be loads cooler. Many other generic 928 videos have similarly styled holding pictures as yours. Your film is so much more professional and educational that I think it deserves a little bit more of an eye-catching style. I wouldn't want to go into what that would be as I fee that I've already said enough but I am now a fan and am going to subscribe to your show based on your stuff . I just think that the quality of your content might benefit from a graphic "grab". Forgive any perhaps perceived negativity from something that I am so glad exists on You Tube for the 928 community. Despite my comments please keep up the amazing stuff! All the best!!
Thank you for the history rundown and overview of the 928! It's a fabulous car with an interesting history👍👍 Best of luck with your own 928! Nicely done👏👏
Great vid. Really enjoyed this vid. Surprisingly you make little of the transaxle layout and very good neutral handling. Perhaps you are too early in the 928 ownership experience to know this?😊. But please keep up these great vids.
What I find the most amazing about 928 is the design. Imagine how cars generally looked back in 1978. Sure there were some pretty decent and timeless designs like the new Ford Granada, but most of them looked like Vauxhall Chevette. 928 must have looked like an absolute spaceship among those. 928 facelift 1987 car could still be a new car, if only the pop-up headlights were changed. Unbelievable design, really.
I had an 82' 928 with 25k miles and i loved it but electrical gremlins eventually came and proved too costly because when one issue was fixed another one would come up. I moved on to a 2000 911 millennium. Your previous 911/boxster videos are great 👍. Hope to see the progression of your car at a future car show.
I have a 1988 S4. I bought it about a year and a half ago. The interior lights never worked. I have taken it to two mechanics. They get the lights to work but something keeps killing the battery. They have no clue. Why?
The '84 - '86 S/S2 cars really are a sweet spot in the range, with the original, slightly lighter, shark-nosed design and 310ps in Euro or UK spec. Some motoring magazines of the day showed a practical 0-60 acceleration time of a manual 928 to be the same as the supposedly faster (and now much more expensive) 930, 911 Turbo. They're certainly a hidden gem.
The 1986 S2 not only had the brakes of the S4 but also the body shell, suspension and interior of the S4. Perfect combo in my opinion 😊I understood the 86.5 referred to the S3 with the 5l engine but different intake from the S4.
I was fuming about the 'Ginger, bespectacled, Step child' comment Jay, because my sister is ginger, and she's lovely, and it seemed a little unkind, until the end, and then it all became clear. Respect my friend. Great content, you are very charismatic, and evidently very knowledgeable. Thank you, Jack (I've got a 928 btw)
i love my 88 928 S4 Diamond Blau Metallic. So comfortable... i would recommend to find one in 5 speed manual ...rare but possible. They arent to hard to work on if you have the shop manuals. You must drive them. I would buy on 95k miles with maintenance records rather one with 20k or less that hasnt been driven with no service records
I own a S4 and have had it with me for many years, and have always wondered why it never got the love of the 911, a turbo 911 well that is another story, but I won't like to be there when it lets go... The 928 end of story is the most underrated car they ever made, unless you consider the Cayenne Turbo, owww I have one of them too... thanks for the post, please respect whatever you have a passion for.
I wonder if Canadian cars were RoW or US spec? The first time I ever saw a 928 was on the way to a Can-Am race at Mosport in 1981 or so. I was gobsmacked! I’d never seen such a futuristic car and have had a soft spot for them ever since. I prefer the original styling, so a manual 928S would be the sweet spot for me.
I have owned 4 928s over the years. The best overall for me was a 83 928 that I bought used with 50k miles and owned for 3 years. It was a solid car, and the only thing I did was tires, brakes, change the oil, timing belt and water pump (at around 75k) However I am partial to 78 928 4.0L engines because they are non interference engines. On the anemic side, but I turbocharged a 4.0L engine in one and added Electromotive EFI, S4 brakes etc. It was fast fast. 928s are the best handling and most comfortable cars I have ever owned.
@@JAYREAD I had that one 83' solid car that gave me hardly any problems, but the last one I owned was a real nightmare. On the last one, I figured I was spending about $250 a month (doing the work myself) including tires, and I had to work on it at least once every two weeks. When these cars start going bad they go really bad. And parts are high. Met a guy at the local Porsche dealer. He bought a really nice low mileage 86' 928, like 30k miles, and then proceeded to spend $4k at the dealer while they tried to sort out his electrical problems. The electrical systems on these cars can be a real nightmare. See if you can find a photo of the back of the fuse/relay board which is in the passenger side foot well. 100% all black wires and god forbid you ever have a leak in that area. And these cars eat rear tires and nobody can align them properly. Even when properly aligned, I was going through a pair of rear tires every year. And the interiors as nice as they are fall apart especially the leather covered dash. Still, if I could find a really nice one that was well maintained, I would buy another one. The exhaust note from these cars is like a symphony.
@@JAYREAD I forgot to mention that in the later cars with the 4 cam engines, if you brake booster ever fails, you have to pull the engine or remove the drivers side head to replace it. That said a clutch change is relatively easy since you do not have to pull the engine. It is done from underneath via an access cover on the bell housing.
My absolute favorite was the 88 model. GTS were cool, but slightly heavy feeling for my taste. The 87 constantly blowing water pumps, nothing worse than leaving a place to find a huge puddle under the car. 88s were the sweet spot.
My dad owned a 1980.... The car of my dreams.... I own a 1984....white exterior and black leather interior....manual transmission.... Best Car EVER!!!!! PORSCHE THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE
S4 / GT are the ones I've lusted after, but every time I went to get one / look at one etc etc... cause 5 spd... I get out bid.. so got a Challenger Scat Pack (6 pot brembos, manual) . edit: That H50 wow. that would have been cool.
I was given as a gift a 928, year 1986.5. Back in the year 1993. It was a bronze color. 8 never drove above the speed limit, because I was scared of crashing. I regret, that I didn't drive fast.
The s4 was best as it had good power and performance for 1987 looked quite modern with the updated rear and had ABS . The GTS manual may be regarded as technically the best now but this car was dated when it was on sale the although many sold it manual the car niche . The Auto S4 was a real current car when it was out
Great video! For me the original design -78-79 cars are top choice. Best looking, wildest interiors and colors. Very sweet and lightfooted to drive preferably in manual. S2 in manual is a close second. Ofcoarse in the spec they were supposed to be not the strangled US versions.
The best and rarest s4 is the one i used to own. The special edition 928 S4 SE...one of 42 ever made. It was a stripped out version, essentially a club sport. Derek Bell had one as his company car.
I was working in the Parts Dept at the Porsche dealership in Phx, AZ in 78 when these came out. You'd a thunk a water-cooled model would go over pretty well there considering the super-heated air the 911's, etc were sucking in during the summer and the melting asphalt they were driving on but nope. Lots of raised eyebrows and "let's wait and see" if I recall right (which is definitely not guaranteed). Great seeing all the strides it made since then. Great days(!), as they most always are when you're looking in the rear-view mirror at things 20, okay 30, no no no no nooooo(!) 45 years ago (had to use a calculator and a box of tissues for that one).....
@@Manillaroad1 Manual GT vs GTS weight the same. Absolutely nothing in between. Ok, maybe 10 or 20 kg, but that comes from GTS huge Big Black brakes alone. But yeah, I'd buy a GT rather than GTS at double the price. GTS has got premium for a reason, it's just that all want one, but that wouldn't justify it for me. Thanks.
Another great video. Jay, Keep it up.! How's your 928 coming along? looking forward to its progress. I recieved my allocation for the sports classic! I am excited, should be arriving sometime in April or May.
Excellent video thanks. I have just got mine back on the road and it is awesome - I'd forgotten how much fun it is to drive and the fantasic sound. Does anyone know if the 928 S Series4 is the same as a 928S4. Mine is described as a 928S Series 4. Is there any difference? Thanks
Interesting that this car would be born in the '70's when fuel efficiency was paramount. What is the fuel consumption on a 5-5.4 V8 928? I would think a pretty thirsty car! Thanks, Jay! -Tom
They would have launched a 5-liter carburettor engine (it was already there in 73-74 in testing), but with the oil crisis they had to reduce displacement (initially they thought about a 3.9, then the 4.5...)
@@Vic-E.Yes but I think it was only a single carb and just for the purpose of testing. All things considered I doubt Porsche would have released the car with anything but the CIS system given that the 911 Turbo released in 1975 with the same system. They did want to go with a 5L 300hp CIS engine, however, and managed to do so in 1979 when they revealed the 928S. And they even managed to with slightly less displacement! This is why the 928S will always be the first proper iteration in my eyes, the original planned car without emissions and fuel efficiency knee jerk reactions. They tested the waters in 1977 with the 4.5L base model cars and then quickly realised the public wanted better performance.
I've only owed a GTS (but a bunch of 911s) but of course since it was the last version l felt it was the best. A friend of mine bought a 79 manual that l drove quite a bit. It was quite nice.
If I had the cash I’d buy an automatic 95 928 GTS, black on black. Put modern carbon Brembo’s on and bump up the HP to around 600. Modern shocks/springs (Bilstein/Eibach) bolt on custom exhaust for a deep growl(Borla). Change out the 10 speakers to modern(JBL)and install a powerful Amp with custom Bluetooth/Apple car play(Alpine). Finish off with tinting the windows and clear film protection for the front fascia and I’d be all set. Ohh I can just see it now, maybe someday 😎
I’m not sure if this was a good thing to do: to watch a model of a great car that I once owned and loved to the hilt and sold for family finance reasons. It’s superb to watch and enjoy but I feel almost as distraught at the end as I did when I sold it, and that was nearly 10 years ago 😢
I will one day, would love to drive the 928 CS or GT model who knows if I see a decent well cared for example, even with high mileage given the Eons that’ve past since they were built. Just to relive my middle aged ‘youth’ once again 😂
Always loved the exterior styling ! But the car should have had an interior layout refresh I just couldn’t get on with that interior, and those auto gearbox’s were agricultural! Which was a real shame , imagine a modern auto gearbox mated to that engine !!!! , its the only front Engined Porsche I never owned , that engine would last for ever as long as it didn’t overheat , if it overheated the rings would dig into the bores which get soft with heat , as the tolerances are very small and score / scuff the bores which meant the block was toast
Simple 928s 1980/84 mechanical fuel injection with a manual box less to go wrong and gas flow the heads and it will go like a rocket on steroids although its fast enough as standard. Remember 928s is the original 4.2 ltr without CAT and none multi valve engine, its built to last, mine did over 240k before it threw a con rod putting 3 holes in the block and was still running. Sure the later models have more goodies, but you pay the price when it all goes wrong and yes the S4 body was way sexier but the 928 looked cool with a set of later low profile wheels but its a heavy car (2 tons) so you have to be careful what tyres you use, the walls have to be strong and hard. Only main advantage of the S2 and later, better brakes and yeah that bit is a little important when your flying down the road at top speed 186 mph !!! and yes it will do that, and more
Every person knows it's the final GTS model. The final versions of cars are usually that. How do I know this? I was studying autos since 1982. They are my passion.
Besides the cost of a vehicle, what is the most important factor? Power and twist (torque). That engine has the most of them. Not only that, except the rear lights are the best design of all the models it had. It's additionally my second absolute favorite of all road going Porsche, after the Cayman GT4 RS. As for the price of that most expensive of those 928s, there should be a few of the that would need to be fixed, which will have an excellent price. All that's required is to find the components to fix it. A working person is able to do that work himself. It won't be show quality, though. A complete restoration of it will be priced at well past a hundred thousand dollars, possibly 250,000 dollars. This all depends upon how much money the people are able or willing to spend on it.
Hey, Tum Slucks, we aren't going to enjoy the same vehicle because we all have our own DNA. Man, what a boring planet were we to have the same interests in the same subjects. There's more to this, though. Knowing the final version of the 928 GTS is my favorite of them. Other people wouldn't agree with that. What those people think about them is for them to decide upon. Since I first saw that final version, it became my absolute favorite. Then came the Cayman GT4. Wow, what a car. Yes, it needed more. So, I waited for the ultimate model of it to become available. It finally did, except it continues to need a better engine. It's the best of all the Porsche cars ever. Did any of you people reading this know that it uses GT3 components? Yes, it does.
@@JAYREAD yeah tried to convince him for a Long time. He now has bought a Humvee and says this will be his next project but we will see. At least its dry in the Garage so it doesnt mold in it or gets rusty
What a fantastic video- i have been looking around for ages on more propper 928 content and this channel and your speaking vooce are a pleasure to watch! I have just bought an 1983 s euro 3 speed AT model and can’t wait for the delivery next month!! I was just wondering for the experts: I read everywhere that the 1983s had 300 bhp and as from 1984 it had 310 bhp and AT 4 speed. When I look on the latest number plate official info it tells me 310 BHP, is there a possibility there was a 1983 car already having the 310 bhp with three speed AT? I presume it is an error , anyhow cant wait to drive it is ne here its exhaust
Interesting question. The extra 10 horsepower came from the electronic fuel injection replacing the CIS mechanical system in 1984. If you have the K-Jetronic CIS system (which you should for a 1983 car) then you have the original 300 horsepower CIS engine and injection combination. Although people call the 1984-1986 cars ‘S2’ they were only called that in the UK market, and I think by dealers not Porsche themselves. Does your horn pad have a stylised S on it and a leather covering on your gear selector? This was a running change introduced in 1983 and carried over to the ‘S2’. I don’t think I have seen a 1983 car without these interior changes before.
comparing production numbers to 996 isn't quite fair.. the 986 and 996 were the first of the cars made by the Toyota system , aimed at efficient and cost saving production. That's the opposite of what the 928 production was like...

One of the greatest, I reckon. Take a look at my Instagram for a SUPERB picture of mine taken yesterday on the Tail of the Dragon!
Still is.
The looks were ruined in 1987 with the S4. Too rounded, looked like an egg. The 928S of 1980-1986 was the best version

I have a 1988 S4. I bought it about a year and a half ago. The interior lights never worked. I have taken it to two mechanics. They get the lights to work but something keeps killing the battery. They have no clue. Why?
I have one from 1978 in austria. Wanted to restore it but now selling it. Amazing car and fun to drive 🙌🏼
Don’t sell! You will regret it! ❤️
I have one!
The 1986 S2 not only had the brakes of the S4 but also the body shell, suspension and interior of the S4. Perfect combo in my opinion 😊I understood the 86.5 referred to the S3 with the 5l engine but different intake from the S4.
I owned an S2 for 19 years....
The '87 S4, '89 GT (5-speed), 93-95 GTS. I had 2 of them, not the GTS, though... Wonderful, luxurious, and brutal cars...
Greatest car ever made.
Thank you,
Jack
(I've got a 928 btw)
Haha! Thanks Jack. I’ll never be unkind. Self-deprecating, yes, but never unkind! Really happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Informative video, thanks !!! 928 S4 on my bucket list !!! ❤ from SC, USA !!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
i love my 88 928 S4 Diamond Blau Metallic.
Thanks for the comprehensive history and a Great video. I own a Boxster and enjoyed your past Boxster videos very much.
Thanks!
They are same as US cars! They’re amazing, aren’t they?
Merry Christmas. Enjoying your vids and looking forward to more. Doug in Tennessee.
Thanks Doug!
The 928S4 GTs were in my opinion the best of the range. Very pretty and great engine
Niiice!
The 928SE is the best model in my own opinion 😊 . Owned mine for 20 years now !
Very nice!
That’s great! Thanks for posting! I can see why people buy two or three of them!
They really are absurd cars at times! Ha!
My absolute favorite was the 88 model. GTS were cool, but slightly heavy feeling for my taste. The 87 constantly blowing water pumps, nothing worse than leaving a place to find a huge puddle under the car. 88s were the sweet spot.
You deserve a larger audience! Happy Holidays!
I bloody well do! Merry Christmas, Roger!
Great Video , Thanks for all your efforts . all of us 928 owners appreciate your work ! Cheers
My pleasure!
It still looks good even today.
That 942 literally was the Porsche Pacer!
Not the best looking car, is it?! Lol!
Yea, it does look like the Pacer.
My dad owned a 1980....
The car of my dreams....
I own a 1984....white exterior and black leather interior....manual transmission....
Best Car EVER!!!!!
PORSCHE THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE
Hahahaha! Great post!
Fantastic video. Full of info on this great looking car. Thank you
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hahaha! A nice gift! 🏎️
The s4 was best as it had good power and performance for 1987 looked quite modern with the updated rear and had ABS . The GTS manual may be regarded as technically the best now but this car was dated when it was on sale the although many sold it manual the car niche . The Auto S4 was a real current car when it was out
I love the early cars personally, so much character, and at that point they were so ahead of their time.
Great video! For me the original design -78-79 cars are top choice. Best looking, wildest interiors and colors. Very sweet and lightfooted to drive preferably in manual. S2 in manual is a close second. Ofcoarse in the spec they were supposed to be not the strangled US versions.
Nice!
1986.5 US S3. Best of both worlds!
Have a Nice Christmas Jay!!
You too, Jaap!
Best car shape ever penned. Love them.
Same. ❤️
The best and rarest s4 is the one i used to own. The special edition 928 S4 SE...one of 42 ever made.
It was a stripped out version, essentially a club sport. Derek Bell had one as his company car.
Perfect! One just came up for sale actually!
2:22 wrong caption, that is not Louise (Porsche) Piech who was Ferry‘s sister but Dorothea Porsche who was his wife.
ok , god bless you , you are very intelligent parson , any person like you in your family ??
Miss my black/black 1993 5-speed manual GTS. I may buy another one some day
This was pretty good! So is the last one the best?
No one will watch it, as ever, but thanks! The best one is the one you think is best having taken in all the information!
Haha! Porsche purists! Ugh!
Great informative video, Jay!
Thanks Dag!
928 GTS 5 speed manual. But they are rare and don't come cheap.
I prefer my GT. Less weight, purer in everything and driving stats are pretty the same if not even better.
Thanks.
Good video sir, thank you.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
Good video.
Amazing how much the stretched 928 looks like the Panamara. I'm sure that's just a coincidence though. Lol
Another great video. Jay, Keep it up.! How's your 928 coming along? looking forward to its progress. I recieved my allocation for the sports classic! I am excited, should be arriving sometime in April or May.
Thanks for your support as always, Ariel! WOW! Sport Classic! Congratulations! That will be an incredible car! I’d love to see it when it comes!
Hi Jay, you will have to drive it... Will keep you informed. Hope your Mum is well.
@@arielquintela452 She’s doing really well. It’s nice of you to ask. Yes, let me know. That would be so cool just to see a special car like this!
Thanks
Same thing. Thanks a lot for watching!
How come the color of the doors differs slightly from the body of the car? I noticed that on most 928, whatever the model is.
I hadn’t noticed! The paint isn’t great on mine. I like that because it means I don’t have to care!
I did notice thatr on all of them too! Reflection? Angle?
Merry Christmas Jay .
Merry Christmas, Ed!
@@JAYREAD I just watched the mechanic look over your 928 .... maybe Santa will drop off a bag of money to dump in that thing lol just kidding .
@@EdD-ym6le might need two bags! Lol!

Fascinating. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a beautiful car
Interesting that this car would be born in the '70's when fuel efficiency was paramount. What is the fuel consumption on a 5-5.4 V8 928? I would think a pretty thirsty car! Thanks, Jay! -Tom
Cheers Tom!
GTS for me thank you.
I've only owed a GTS (but a bunch of 911s) but of course since it was the last version l felt it was the best. A friend of mine bought a 79 manual that l drove quite a bit. It was quite nice.
My Dream GT of the 1980s.
Me too! One of them anyway!
@@JAYREAD Touche' (smile)
If I had the cash I’d buy an automatic 95 928 GTS, black on black. Put modern carbon Brembo’s on and bump up the HP to around 600. Modern shocks/springs (Bilstein/Eibach) bolt on custom exhaust for a deep growl(Borla). Change out the 10 speakers to modern(JBL)and install a powerful Amp with custom Bluetooth/Apple car play(Alpine). Finish off with tinting the windows and clear film protection for the front fascia and I’d be all set. Ohh I can just see it now, maybe someday 😎
WOOF! Great vision there! DO IT!
A quirck mobile.
Hi Jay. Your website link is not working. Great job with this!
1986 32valve 5speed with ABS and LCD.
NICE!
1983 with the disc rims chromed out, all day !
Do you know if it's true that Porsche had originally designed the 928 to have a 6.0L engine from day one?
I don’t think it did, no. V10 for sure.
5.0 V8, that was planned in 1973. Then the oil crisis came...
I’m not sure if this was a good thing to do: to watch a model of a great car that I once owned and loved to the hilt and sold for family finance reasons. It’s superb to watch and enjoy but I feel almost as distraught at the end as I did when I sold it, and that was nearly 10 years ago 😢
Get another one!
I will one day, would love to drive the 928 CS or GT model who knows if I see a decent well cared for example, even with high mileage given the Eons that’ve past since they were built. Just to relive my middle aged ‘youth’ once again 😂
I think this car should make a comeback
It kind of is. Take a look at my video about the Nardone 928 restomod.
@@JAYREAD thanks, i will
I think the 89GT is the best one. For now, happy with a 89 Auto. Not a fan of PSD on later models.
Why?
@@Vic-E. Electronically controlled. Expensive to repair if needed.
@@djhightopfade4940 well ok, just for repair bills then. I thought you didn't like to drive it compared to a classic clutch-based LSD
I still want one with a manual ❤️
Hmmm. Me too really.
Always loved the exterior styling ! But the car should have had an interior layout refresh I just couldn’t get on with that interior, and those auto gearbox’s were agricultural! Which was a real shame , imagine a modern auto gearbox mated to that engine !!!! , its the only front
Engined Porsche I never owned , that engine would last for ever as long as it didn’t overheat , if it overheated the rings would dig into the bores which get soft with heat , as the tolerances are very small and score / scuff the bores which meant the block was toast
The interior is a bit 80s-tastic!
@@JAYREAD I like 80’s interiors lol it’s more 70’s American lol with those rear seats , large buttons , and centre console design
There’s a best one ?? I didn’t realise 😮
Don’t you know ANYTHING?! Lol!
as with all Porsches, get the youngest one you can get. That has been left original and maintained properly.
Your website is non op
very easily 1992 928 GTS4. I have two.
Every 928 ist the best 928 :-)
Jawohl!
Only main advantage of the S2 and later, better brakes and yeah that bit is a little important when your flying down the road at top speed 186 mph !!! and yes it will do that, and more
H50 became the panamera can see the lines in it
Every person knows it's the final GTS model. The final versions of cars are usually that. How do I know this? I was studying autos since 1982. They are my passion.
Aha! They are also the most expensive so is that the best? Not sure! Depends how much you have, I guess!
@@landrelarose745
Cayman RS is a good car but pretty it ain't.
Late S2, Light spect GT (CS like) and GTS in Full spec

Wonder how many 911:s were built between 1978-1995? Would be a better comparison but I bet it makes the 928 very rare.
