If you want to do this in stereo, as Stevie and I did, just use two instances of drum machines, vocoders, and synths, and pan them to left and right. Set the patterns of the drum machines differently, and set the sounds of the vocoders and synths slightly differently.
Amazing. I’ve always wondered about this synth sound. It’d be challenging to play by hand-or at least tiring. It really makes the track bounce. It’s similar to what David Z. did on Prince’s track ‘Kiss’ and a very similar sound and pattern as well. Thanks so much for the insight. Subscribed for more!!!
