A beautiful Stevie tune that had a complete music video within the film "The Secret Life of Plants." Enhanced along with HD audio direct from the CD.

The final installment of my indulgent look at an album that didn't sell, yet is still being talked about 42 years later. I take you song-by-song, and also discuss the promotion, including the showcase at the Roxy with a live band, put together for that one night only. Don't forget to subscribe, like and share! Thx!

The Secret Life of Stevie's Acoustic Bass Sound
Thanks again Bill for all of these wonderful insights….Plants is one my favourite Stevie albums! As a side note…I hope you are safe from the fires! Sending prayers to all the people of Los Angeles 🙏
See I know a couple of musicians in London who toured with Bob Marley back in the 70s and they have endless stories.
Loving these stories... keep em coming.
Hey Bill loving your channel. Being a pro musician I have always wondered about all those session musicians that played on all the classic hits. Musicians are the thd flavour. Keep it coming.
Who owns him? Who was the cat handler/trainer? They could have at least given him a cushion!!
Heyy Bill, please check your email. This comment will introduce you to what is needed!
Decided to order the album, did a brief listen. I love the artwork on the album though and who’s the guy on the back ? 😂
Thank U Bill. I've been screaming to people about this song/album for decades. It's never on any of his compilations because of the subject matter is still over people's heads. This was Stevie at his peak. The risk an artist has to take and be committed despite his popularity is something I've always admired. The production, the lyrics, that bass and SW's incomparable vocals. 🔥 I still have a video copy that I converted to hard-drive. Not a great copy but I doubt this will ever be released. Cheers.
Fantastic song! I had this album when it first came out. The only scented album I know of. I thank you again for telling the story. I did not know the full story of this song. All I knew was Carver. This album opened my ear to soundtrack music or music scores. His infamous basslines, the control of sounds, harmony, and vocal control. This is a great song from a great album. This song, Power Flower, and Black Orchid are Stevie Wonder sound. This album opens your mind to what he hears, what he is capable of and more.
Well said!
Thank you so much for putting this together Bill. This is one of my favorite Stevie songs. And it has such a gorgeous melody. It's amazing with that Bass sound you explained which is so iconic and beautifully played on this song.
Stevie is the best bass player in the planet 😊
One of my favourite ever ❤
Decided instead of watching your video, I should listen to the album instead! Only two songs in and I’m enjoyed it a lot!
Man that Rhodes sound in a Plug-in would be great!
Love your videos! 💥
💥🔥💥
I wish it had gotten the legs it deserved. I get excited when I see it in my favorites and listen to it again. It takes me back every time. Thank you Bill!
Lucio: I know what you did
One of the best lps of the era, wonderful memories
Who performed the vocoder vocals?
I did!
Hi, could it be that the "Beat It" choir pad chord progression is Eb minor, Db Major, Ebm/Gb (1st inversion) and then Db Major again? That's what it sounds like on the multitrack.
Quite possibly. It was a long time ago, and I don't remember exactly what I played.
@billwolfer4020 Oh okay, thank you for replying! I think it may have been Ebm, Db, Ebm/Gb and Db for the choir pad. There are 2 more pads playing aswell, one sounds like a metallic pad / synth strings type of sound and the other one sounds like a synth violin. Did you play those parts aswell or was that someone else?
@@JonayPS As near as I can recall, I just did the choir pad bit. There are tons of other keyboard/synth parts on there. Quincy loved his "ear candy."
Such a great sounding album.
Bill can’t believe the brass was a minimoog even now it’s sounding great
It is a masterpiece that went unnoticed on the radar. I love it!
Thank you for sharing the finer details of this awesome album. Yes I was throughly entertained too!😂
As I commented in part 1, this album is NOT a failure! The failure might have been the marketing. It was and is one of my most cherished albums that I bought as a teenager. A hidden classic I would call it as are you!
No one really knows why a record or film might not find an audience when it's released--stuff happens, there's competition, it's a complicated thing. BUT, it wasn't the marketing, it was heavily promoted. And I don't really consider it a failure at all--I'm being faceitious when I say that. The fact that people still listen to it and still want to know about how it was made after all these years is proof of its worth. Sometimes things slip through the cracks. Thanks for the vote of confidence!
Oh my God Bill!? 8000 units!? Well I was one of them. As a metro Detroit resident kid born in 1967, I remember riding my bike to the record store to buy your album in 1982 knowing nothing about your history or involvement with so many of my other favorite artists (Stevie especially). I just heard your stuff on WJLB93.1 and WLBS 102.7 in Detroit. I still have your vinyl to this day and have NO plans on getting rid of it! In fact, I put your songs from that album on SOOOOO many playlists even today to share with people. That album is an absolute CLASSIC!!! I also purchased your next two albums (?) and to this day, as a keyboard player/producer, still regard "And It Rained All Through The Night" as a near per perfect song. So glad to have found you on TH-cam. NEVER under estimate the power your music has had an effect on people! Such an honor to be able to tall you directly. Jon
Thank you, Jon, those are very kind words indeed!
thx for sharing 🎉
Lucio rocks! I love most of the actors in the new Netflix Ripley, but Lucio the cat beats them all. He is not just drop dead gorgeous, but he also knows everything! ❤️🐈⬛❤️🐈⬛❤️🐈⬛❤️
Mr. Wolfer, thank you for sharing stories about your solo record. I remember hearing the album for the first time in 2012 (while I was in high school), and I fell in love with songs like "Call Me", "So Shy" and "Wake Up". I still love these songs and I have them on my personal playlist. Before I heard your record, I was already aware that you were involved with the Thriller album because I used to study the liner notes of every Michael record and I was curious to see who did this and that.
Thanks again, Mr. Wolfer. I truly appreciate your videos. "Wolf" was a great accomplishment.
Imo, his classic time was " talking book, music of my mind, and innervisions". Bottom line, stevie is otherwordly.
I love hearing about the background of this.
"Did they have to convince Michael that he couldn't take it with him?" :)
Shocked there’s no comments this is a great groove
Thanks. I can't figure it myself. They seem to like my stories more than my music. Waddya gonna do? Story of my life...
As I said before. I rarely say this but I love this album. It is one of the few albums' that "called me" when I passed it by at Tower Records in Seattle shortly after its release. I listened to it, then I bought the cassette and sent it home to my mother in KC.
👎🏻 👎🏻 👎🏻 👎🏻 sPewTube.
Thanks for sharing the incrowd info about "Wolf" LP.Is it also possible to inform us more about the technically side of the music production?I mean by this:who and why selected this kind of electronic intrumnets for this production. The alignement in sync of the drums to the other synth parts in time on the multitrack tape. Was there a clicktrack as a reference?Any editing afterwards?
There will be more technical info in the next video, but there was only the sync code from the drum machine that was used to sync the drum machine with itself. All of the other parts were played by hand--no sequencers.
Wake up is a classic as well is Jon Gibson's 2 solo albums. Job well done Wolf. God Bless you. Love the back stories
My favorite version is the instrumental. It kicks. The drums are incredible and the high hat sings a song all it's own.
Loved hearing all about it !
sounds like a synth that sounds like a “sax” 🎉
1st of 1st
Jazzy Jeff always says "Bubble wrap Stevie" 😆
fascinating stuff, man. I just discovered your channel like three days ago.
thanks for sharing 🎉
I purchased the album on iTunes..
I bought your album 'Wolf' back in 2012' after a local-underground-soulful-house-Dj, on his podcast recording, recommended a track and album that sampled your song 'Wake Up' and to look-up your work, So that took me into a "Rabbit hole"..., The album sounds like you are seassoned professional player at its time of realease.
I wish this tour was officially released on video.
Thanks Bill!
