  • In this video, I'll show you how to finally fix that loose shift lever in your GM car or truck. this fix applies to any vehicle with the GM Saginaw column. This column was used in just about every GM car or truck made from the late 1960s to the mid-1990s.

Thank you for the video, helped me out a ton. I did lose the spring twice, but thankfully I was able to push it out under the dash with a long piece of wire. Reverse still doesn’t quite lock in to the correct notch, but this is a million times better.

Glad it helped. There is a way to calibrate the notches on the indicator to what's going on inside the trans.

Man! Definitely brings back memories, im an X-Dealer technician. I've taken those columns down to the bare tube, they're extremely rebuildable. In about 1999ish when they changed to the new design column a loose shifter would mean replacing the whole "shifter mechanism", instead of just a spring. Ive been wanting to do a column teardown on my channel, oh well, someday. Great video tho!

Bro you had a pretty good video here but you got to start making sure that you say the names of what each component is, I had so much trouble finding out what type of spring to buy to install inside of the ignition column, the truck I bought was missing the spring that you referred to so it would have helped if you would have had the exact name and I could have went and had the exact verbiage of what I'm looking for. Thanks again!

I'll keep that in mind for the next one.

Just as long as it works I dont care if it's a little loose. But for those OCD folks this is handy! 😅
