I wish I knew these steps when I started out in my graphic design career. This is full of very vital information and a good start for everyone that wants to embark on this journey. Thank you once again, and please keep the good work going!
Hi there, I am a mom and trying to get a job here in South Africa, I been raising my daughter (now almost 4) so need to get back to work after years of doing only painting. I also trained at a very good art school, that taught you the basic steps and principles of design - and that sparked my love for design. Through drawing and painting to putting it on the computer - seeing your work online/printed is so rewarding and gives you another type of drive for life. I really miss it - and seeing this video really inspired me to get rid of all the cobwebs. Thank you so so much!
How beautiful!! I’m really excited for you to get into design again. I am also a painter and do it with my also 4 year old daughter. Sounds Ike you are a really creative artist! Best of luck with your job search. I’d recommend taking a look at Rock That Creative Job. She has a lot of great insights on finding a creative job.
I absolutely loved this video. I'm a beginner and really excited about learning more about graphic design, and have my very own successful design business.
If you don't have the money for Adobe there is open source....Krita or gimp for photo manipulation and digital drawing and Inkscape for vector graphics and typefaces....also Blender for animation and sculpting 3d
I'm not gonna lie I learned about graphic design around 4 years ago and since I couldn't afford going to a graphic design school or an art school I had to find my way through the internet and I wasted 4 years learning random lessons including the basics of graphic design but I ended up knowing nothing and with no skills and I heard that graphic design isn't a good carrer so I had to let go even though I feel comfortable doing and practicing graphic even if I have no skills and my designs sucks. I decided I'll head to programming and indeed I started it but it wasn't fun as designing and since I couldn't find a right way or a pathway and a guide that helps me imagine and knowing where I'm heading until I discovered ur channel u answered all my questions and all my anxiety but one problem remained I kept asking myself how can I learn how do I start and should I learn everything logos flyers packaging..... And now u answered my last question and restored my confidence and I'm going to start today and one day when I make it and become a great graphic designer I'll meet you on person to thank you You made a great effect in my life Thank you 4 the creatives
Wow, I am blown away by this. Don't ever let yourself think you can't make it or that you suck. Follow your passion and practice, practice, practice. I am so happy to have helped you!
I am also in a search for a systematic way and resources. Can you help me out brother? I am also tired of random lessons and random tutorials. I mean this video is great but resources are not clearly mentioned. Can you please help me brother?
Thank you very much for this information. I never really thought about taking pencil, paint and a canvas to do logos or any design. I always just jump to inkscape. After doing one year of graphics design I wasn't taught these helpful tools and I made the mistake of creating a logo in gimp. A raster based application. When I tried stretching it, it got blurry and I wondered why. It was after I recently started going for a degree that I learnt about vector and raster images. It is truly great how you take the time out to educate designers about these helpful tips that if not known, will cost time and money. Thank you.
You are so welcome and thanks for your comment! It is a very common practice to jump into the computer, so don't feel bad about it, just realize that there is false information that says you will become a designer if you only know the programs. Great that you now know about vector and raster and yes it is my absolute mission to help designers follow their dreams and be properly valued!
You should mention about DESIGN ELEMENTS . - contrast - texture - focal point - simplicity - easy to convey your idea - where to put your main object (rule of third) - lighting : highlight vs shadow - shapes - think TYPE is a design element
WOW!!!! I NEED TO GO, OLD SCHOOL FIRST!!!! I NEED TO BUY SOME GRAPH PAPER. UPDATE MY COLORED PEN COLLECTION. AND JUST HAVE FUN. WITH DIFFERENT BRANDS AND PRODUCTS. AT THE SAME TIME CONTINUE TO EXPAND MY GRAPHIC DESIGN LIBRABY. THANK YOU SO MUCH. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SPEAK YOUR TRUTH.
I have seen a few of your videos and I must say - they are wonderful. You talk a lot about how you can market graphic design skill - almost straight from a management course. Excellent narration as well. I am aghast that with such a great narrative, it has not translated much into viewership. A lot of crap videos gain thousands of views while actual gems like yours don't get the right due.
Thank you so very much for this acknowledgment. The TH-cam algorithm has to learn who the best type of person is for the content and sometimes that takes more time. But it’s been picking up more and more recently. Again I really appreciate you and will continue to put out helpful content for creatives.
Your presentation is just the BEST. You present really, REALLY well. You totally keep me engaged. Additionally, I'm a pen and pencil guy - an artist from way back - and its comforting to hear someone say to start with the basics - not another super-complex piece of software... I've made friends with Photoshop 2021, but... ugh !
Thank you so much for this comment. I love meeting other pen and pencil artists as I actually hated computers for many years until I had to come to terms and make friends, just like you did...haha. So I hear you 1000%!
Hi there ! Thanks for responding ! um... the whole artist thing is actually what led me to my new drive in graphic design. There are a whole lot more jobs out there for graphic designers than for artists - comic artists ( like myself ) or otherwise. Its just that this is a whole new specialty and THERE'S SO FLIPPIN' MUCH... I wish I could go back to school for it, but... even with the on line tutorials from outfits like Udemy and Skillshare, there's about a bazillion choices - its kind of overwhelming. Your videos really help me to find a starting point . I'm looking for them, now - and, if you would scale your operation into, perhaps, some full-fledged on-line tutorials on the nuts and bolts, well... I would be first in line.
How cool you’re a comic artist! Yes, graphic design does translate into a very needed skill in this world because of any business wants to look pro, they need a designer. I also came from a background of drawing and animation but pivoted back in 2006. I also know completely what you mean about it being super overwhelming with all the different tutorials and courses available! While I don’t yet have a course to learn graphic design itself, I do have a whole online program to help designers get their own business set up with consistent clients that I actually have had a few illustrators take as well. When you’re ready, I’d love to have you join😊 In terms of learning graphic design, just choose one course that focuses heavily on the BASICS of graphic design. The programs can be learned through courses too but the basics are what sets the pros apart from the amateurs. I love Art Center’s curriculum from when I went there but that was over a decade ago, so I’m not sure what they have going now online. Please keep me posted and let me know any further questions!
Cheers Lauren - you have hit the nail on the head. First it is essential to learn color theory, psychology of colour and typography before applying this knowledge to whatever graphic design tools you choose to use.
Ma, your tutorials are amazing. But numbering and naming them on episodes would help viewers to get their specific discussed topic faster. I wouldn't know but that's my opinion. I love your tutorials so much, it's so educative and it flows with a lot of professional vibes that anyone at any stage in design can grasp. Keep it up

Really helpful !!!, I feel so good that I found you at this point , I am such a fan on yours in the design space , I am just a beginner in this field of design , and coming across a mentor like you has been such a boon to me , I was so disturbed today of flipping through so much content online and viewing but your videos, infact all of them, gave me a thread to start of with clarity and focus , this was much needed , i again thank you for sharing this, lots of love to you, and these resonate so much with your thoughts , pen n pencil artist is in me , but i am scared to jump onto the software part but need to learn that too as well 😊
Hi. This information is incredible. I am 40. Started learning graphics design but just got to know the tools nothing much about design. Then there was a break and now I want to start again. Is it possible for me to go to this field now also? I am ready to do whatever it takes.
It’s absolutely possible for you! I am 35. Not much younger than yourself and I know of many 50+ getting into graphic design. It’s all about your skills.
@4TheCreatives thank you. I am so relieved. At my place everyone tells me now you can't do anything it's already 40. I know I can do it. But yes, I don't have much exposure to this field. But I will surely follow the steps that you tell in your videos. All thus while I was following other designers but didn't know where to start and how to start. Cause I felt I don't know anything. Now I have a road map.
I’m sorry you were told that. Anyone who says things like that doesn’t know or wants for hold you back. Set the goal and work towards it daily. You will get there!!
My mum says that I made a bad choice for my graphic designer career. My sister says that I am crazy because I take to much risk. I am so sad. I just want to break links with my family. Your video is so motivating!! Thank you !!
That is so not fun that people told you that you shouldn’t do it. Entrepreneurs are those that take risks and successful ones are those that put blinders on to ignore any and all negativity. Focus on your future, your goals and know that it is so possible. I was in your position six years ago. I still have a thriving design business six years later. You can too.
What about attending a university Instead of just learning from home? I'm new to media design but i do find myself coming up with cool ideas sometimes, but i never actually start the projects mainly because i don't have the software, and it was never something serious. so i gave no projects to put into a portfolio. How do you think i would do in a media design master's program at full sail university for example? Is this something you would recommend?
I don't understand English well, but the way you talk, I understand easily. Thanks a lot Lauren for this guideline

Hi wanted to know which software to use for brand design that needs to get printed. Indesign or illustrator?
I use a combo of both. Logos are best created in Illustrator but I put the guide together in InDesign. They are both vector based programs.
I'm not good at drawing yet I want to express my ideas through graphic design which I thought was easy especially when using a computer
Not a problem you can’t draw: but you must know the basics. Definitely love that you have found a medium to express your ideas.
thank you for a good explanation but how to get projects and jobs by grafic design and how to improve my self by grafic design
Have you taken any formal training in design?
What do you think about Procreate for iPad? Have you ever used it? Pros and cons? Thank you
I don’t personally use it but I have seen reviews of it and have some students that love it so much. It depends what you would use it for.
Additionally, it’s really only best for sketching and pixel based illustrations. It’s not vector based.
Thank you 😊

Really helpful !!!, I feel so good that I found you at this point , I am such a fan on yours in the design space , I am just a beginner in this field of design , and coming across a mentor like you has been such a boon to me , I was so disturbed today of flipping through so much content online and viewing but your videos, infact all of them, gave me a thread to start of with clarity and focus , this was much needed , i again thank you for sharing this, lots of love to you, and these resonate so much with your thoughts , pen n pencil artist is in me , but i am scared to jump onto the software part but need to learn that too as well 😊
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
This is so helpful. I have subscribed
Thanks so much!
Thank you really appreciate it it's something I've always wanted to be a designer Gid bless
Great! You can absolutely become one.

SUGGESTION: GRAPHIC DESIGN PRINTED MAGAZINE.
I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED AS I PROGRESS THROUGH MY TRANSFORMATION.

Do you have a tutorial class I will like to jion
Hello Chris! I have a course on design you can find here: www.4thecreatives.com/design
on Program inside the screen.
Could you clarify?
What about attending a university Instead of just learning from home? I'm new to media design but i do find myself coming up with cool ideas sometimes, but i never actually start the projects mainly because i don't have the software, and it was never something serious. so i gave no projects to put into a portfolio. How do you think i would do in a media design master's program at full sail university for example? Is this something you would recommend?
Universities are great for helping with discipline and getting excellent instruction and guidance. I say go for it!
