    Ha. That first aerial scene on Canal Blvd show the Hard Rock Hotel under construction that collapsed in October of 2019. Also, I wouldn’t say summer is a popular destination in the summer. Fall, winter, and spring are the times to come. Summer is miserable here. Overall I like the new terminal and glad they built it. But it’s annoying they built a brand new rental car center in 2013, in walking distance of the old terminal. Now it’s a really long bus ride to the rental car center around the runways.

      @jonesrmj  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info. That sucks about the rental car center! Maybe they'll move it to the new terminal in the future! Thanks for watching!

    I went through there a little over a year ago for a cruise. We were meeting our son and his wife but arrived 3 or 4 hours earlier largely due to a delay in their flight. An Uber downtown wasn't that cheap so we waited but needed to collect our bags thus left the airside terminal. Their is virtually nothing resembling a restaurant outside of terminal. On the way home, we had a bus transfer with them but again we were a bit more than 3 hours early for our flight and couldn't check in until 2 hours prior, same story. The airside is nice and has a good selection of options. Overall, the facility is nice. They are friendly to Uber etc...

    Looks like arriving and departing passengers use opposite sides of the terminal like the old JAX and ORF facilities.

    Most airports need an upgrade, but let's face it, New Orleans is not a hub airport. I think an upgrade is needed, but not a big expansion. Unclear how big this expansion is going to be. If they keep it within moderate terms, then go for it.

    • @jonesrmj
      @jonesrmj  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This airport upgrade is not exactly huge. Especially compared to most of the other airport upgrades I’ve made videos on.

    The terminal looks nice from outside, but tbh I think the interior looks a bit boring.

      I see what you are saying. I think some wood accents would help as some nice contrast on the inside!

    These are all artist rendering photos. Did they ever build a connector road to I-10? Last time I was there you had to drive through a residential area.

    • @jonesrmj
      @jonesrmj  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure about that, but from the map, it doesn't look too far off I-10.

    • @THSTigervision
      @THSTigervision 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They did not. You still have to go through the residential area. It is going to be a couple of years before the connector is finished.

    The new terminal cost more than a billion... not counting the interest they are paying (and going to pay) on the bonds. The traffic flow in and out of the airport is a total disaster, especially if you are going to have a rental car. The connector/ramps to/from I-10 still to be built. Inside the terminal - cheap materials which are wearing out fast... i.e. the restrooms are pretty bad considering they are NEW! It was also poorly designed. You could see from the original rendering, there were just two concourses. 5 additional gates were added to the west end of the terminal while the construction was ongoing as they realized that there weren't enough capacity/gates in the original design. There's not much room for further expansion on the north side of the airport - where the new terminal is located.

    • @jonesrmj

      $598 million was the number I got from online.

      @@jonesrmj Total cost transferred from construction in progress to building and furnishings was $1,182,177,613 in 2019 when the construction was substantially completed. This included capitalized interest (interest on borrowed funds, close to $1B). It's in the 2019 financial statements of the airport. :-D

    You should really do a good research before posting wrong information. The New MSY Terminal did not cost $598 Million Dollars. The total cost was 1.3 Billion Dollars. Or At least try to correct it.

    • @jonesrmj
      @jonesrmj  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That price was what came up in multiple sources when I was doing my research, but I do agree that that price is probably wrong.
