  • On November 6, 2019 the brand new New Orleans Armstrong International Airport officially opened its doors to the public marking an end to the old MSY airport building. This land has been operating commercially as an airport since 1946. The new MSY (which stands for Moisant Stock Yards) is a new state of the art airport terminal with a lot of amazing amenities.

    Wow!!! My ex-husband flew from the old airport and returned at the new airport.
    He worked in the Engine Room (the massive HVAC/boilers/chillers/cooling towers etc) from 1987-1995. Our first son was almost born there as I spent lots of time exploring behind the scenes
    his department had the 2nd highest secimurity clearance (“Oscar” clearance was the operations and security clearance. I got to ride out on the concourses.
    So many memories tfor me at the old MSY (Moisant Stock Yards)
    Looks like the new MSY is more open and airy. No dark and dismal.
    Last time I flew from New Orleans to Portland Oregon was 2013.

    It would appear that Concourse A is for international arrivals. It has a sterile arrivals set up directing passengers to immigration and customs, which is why it doesn't need food stands. And since the food is in the departure area, I doubt arriving passengers will linger to eat, so the food is mainly for departing passengers. But is certainly is a vast improvement on the old terminal.

    It's a pretty, clean, modern airport and definitely an improvement over the old MSY. My only gripe is that it looks like nearly every other new airport. Other than a couple small touches (the big tree photo), it's generic and cookie cutter. @@gavin3598 If it was a new AIRPORT, then planes would not be taking off and landing on the same piece of real estate. They have built different terminals at DTW (Detroit) for almost 90 years, longer than any other airport in the U.S.A. , new terminals same old airport. That is like saying you built a new train station and you have a new railroad. Maybe Terminal is not in NOLADEEJ's VOCABULARY.

    A better comparison one can make is to compare with Berlin's latest unfinished airport. This 1 billion USD airport is about 1 11th of the cost of Beijing Daxing airport, therefore, do not compare this one with Daxing.

    Can't wait to visit this when I'm back in January.
    Corridor to C concourse looks very small.
    As for the A concourse, it's pretty bare-bones as you described because on the other side of that white wall is the customs facility. Still weird that they don't have any concessions in there whatsoever.

    Not a fan of the new terminal. While it is large, it feels cramped at the gate areas. I'm flew during covid and it felt tight. When folks are back to moving around like normal, the place will make the traveler feel like a sardine.

    They have a shiny new building that is massively late and over budged. It will still be staffed by the same surly, eye rolling, lazy employees that infested the old terminal. Lipstick on a pig...the issues at MSY were service connected not so much facility connected...although the old facility should be an embarrassment to any city that owned that POS.

    • @djespo69
      @djespo69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The worst airport in the USA by light years. They should castrate every single planner, traffic cop and employee so as not to infect the new airport with there stupidity. But then again ignorance is a trademark of the airport authority.
