I don't want to bring anyones mood down so I apologize in advance. I had to put my kitty cat down yesterday because her terminal cancer had finally got up with her. I was able to take her on one single camping trip back in November, mostly thanks to watching you guys with Dexter. Please give Dexter a big hug for me.

We travel with our 105lb Yellow Lab. We will alternate daily activity where we’ll take our dog on hikes and other fun dog activities. The next day he is wiped out and will chill in our 5th wheel napping all day! We try to stay at state parks a lot because they usually allow dogs on the hiking trails where the majority of National Parks do not.

As an RV tech my biggest pet tip would be to lock your pet in a separate room when you have a tech coming. Or have someone take Fido on a walk during the call.
    1. This is going to make your call go smoother and faster. Most techs charge by the hour so this will save you money. But also help with Fido’s safety. I’ve had dogs trying to shove their noses into live power in working on.
    2. This will decrease the chance of your pet getting out when they’re not supposed to. As a tech I have to walk in and out of the door multiple times to get things from my truck. I’ve had calls where every time I do that an animal is trying to escape.
    3. It’s just a polite thing to do for this person who is coming into your home to help you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shown up to an RV and had a MASSIVE dog run out and jump on me only for the owner to be like “you’re okay with dogs right?”…

We took our 4-legged canine family on as many of our travels as possible before we bought our RV (tent camping & hotels). We've been RVing with dogs for almost 10 years, and have yet to need their vax records. Picked up our current pups when they were 6 weeks old (now 3 & 5 years old) as we headed out to travel, so they both spent their first several months on the road. They LOVE traveling, probly because they get lots of walks, hikes, beach runs, and love from other dog owners. If we want to go somewhere they can't when it's hot, we go early and keep trips short. When it's too hot, we find something else to do. It definitely takes some planning and an occasional sacrifice. The hardest part is getting veterinary care. These days, vets all over the country are booked solid. We've needed vet care 3 times in the past 4 years, and each was difficult. Once, driving an hour away & spending most of the day waiting at an emergency clinic when our youngest pup got a UTI.
Thanks for your fun & informative vids! We look forward to them every week.

We travel with our dog and yes, we had to show his vaccination records at 3 campgrounds! I had to "carpet" the rv stairs because our dog had a hard time climbing the stairs prior to the carpet cover. Also, we have "FI" which is a dog GPS in case he ever got lost. He is always with us, we go to dog friendly areas, so we never leave him alone in the RV.

We had to give our dog Dramamine on travel days for the first few months. She was a rescue so may have endured some travel trauma in her past. After she realized how fun it was, she relaxed and has been a great traveler ever since.

    Kyle & Rene,
Another concern with cats and small dogs is making your RV secure for them. What I mean is that, in the average RV, there are often multiple small openings that your pet can enter and 1) heaven forbid, that may lead to an escape from the RV, 2) it may lead to your storage bay or underbelly or 3) it may just lead to a hiding place that will make you lose your mind as you hunt for your pet and wonder "How did he/she get out of the RV?" A case in point: We traveled in our 5th wheel to Galveston, TX with our cat and he suddenly went missing. After frantic searching of every nook and cranny in the RV, I used a camera extension to find him in an enclosed space under our bed. I had to take the bed apart to get him out.
It pays to do a *thorough* search of your RV to find all the pet-sized openings that need to be blocked or covered to prevent future anguish and/or loss.
    Good video!
    Jim

We love Waggle! It monitors temperature, power failures, humidity, etc. Ours doesn't adjust our AC/HVAC, but that is on the thermostat and comes on as needed unless there is a power failure. Our waggle is on and still notifies us while in storage, which is really nice in potentially freezing weather. We have used them for 3 years, and have never had a problem. We are not full-time, so we have suspended service twice when we knew we wouldn't be traveling. We get updates while traveling in the 100+ degree days in Texas. It is perfect for us and has worked everywhere we have ever gone. We travel with 3 dogs; 2 Labradoodles and a Yorkie. I confess we only report the two doodles The Yorkie isn't social and doesn't like change. She darts out takes care of business, then right back in, all within about 30 seconds. She enjoys traveling, but she likes to stay inside where it is safe. The other two are social, love to walk, and definitely attract a lot of attention! We are known as "the people that have two solid black dogs that look just alike" wherever we go! We were recently on a two-month trip and they are just not that much problem. We do have to take them to the dog park to run and take care of business regardless of the weather! I honestly can't imagine going without them. I love your Dexter. Can I say "he" is beautiful? He is more than handsome! Oh, and on vaccine records, we carry them but have never had anyone ask for them even though they say they are required. Great video!🐕🦮🐶🐈😺

About temperatures for CATS, (idk about dogs, fish, reptiles, birds, etc) Cats prefer temperatures about 10°F warmer than humans. So it's ok for cats if it gets up to 75°-80°F inside as long as they have lots of water available to them. My cat prefers cold water so if I'm only going to be gone a few hours (shopping, a meal etc) I'll throw a bunch of ice cubes into his water bowl. I also leave the roof vents open & a screen window for air circulation. I'm also in Canada so we generally speaking have cooler temperatures, but we do have some hot spots, (nightclubs, bars, party's etc). I'm in a Class B Van so it's a bit easier travelling with pets.

Good points, but we learned something interesting with our three dogs. The two that like being in the car were not so good in a class A. The one that isn't great in the car was at home in the RV. We never had issues with them asking for information about our pets, including the breed.

We use a Marcell Pro (which is Verizon) and have SensorPush, TempStick, and our MicroAir EasyTouch monitoring the temperature over our permanent AT&T Hotspot. This gives us 4 ways to get temperature alerts for our pups, and power alerts. Also whenever we leave the RV, we leave both A/C units on as a redundancy and keep it a bit cooler than average. We can also run the A/C on solar and battery if we are at the RV.

Thank you for your video on pet care while RV’ing. We are part time RV’rs, but have done a few long trips (6-8 weeks) with our two small dogs. Safety for our pups was my first priority/concern. Because we knew that there would be short periods of time we would leave them in our trailer, we invested in a router and data plan to have good internet service. We also installed Blink cameras so that we could watch them while away. Plus the Blink system as well as the Govee temp monitor we installed, tracks temperature in the trailer and we can adjust temp remotely from our cell phones.
As for traveling, I am a nut case for keeping pups safe in the truck. So we invested in harnesses for both dogs, seat belts and our most recent purchase was a “4 in 1 Convertible dog Car seat cover” for back seat of our truck. It kind of resembles a hammock. Protects the seats, cushions their ride, comes with seat belts, is waterproof, storage pockets for leashes and more, and it converts (zips open) to allow for passengers as well. We bought ours on Amazon, paid about $30 for it and it has been a game changer. It even has a screened section to block access to the front seat, but they can still see us. We highly recommend this product, just be mindful of the size. You can enter your car make and model to buy correct fit.
We do admit, we do leave the pups in the trailer for short periods of time, but we feel we leave them safely and we monitor via the camera and never go very far. We will, for sure, look into a Doggy day care, if we plan to be away for an extended period. Oh and we also take them on ‘pet friendly’ hiking trails whenever possible. And important to note too that we ALWAYS clean up after them and never go anywhere without poopy bags.
And also important to tell you…..that we love your suggestion to visit your Vet before a trip. We do this too, AND our Vet has put together a Dog First Aid kit for us to take on the road with us. Mainly because our pup, “Bear” seems to be sensitive to new areas and has gotten sick several times. We now carry meds for him and a general dog first aid kit whenever we travel. So important.
We love all your videos, and have learned so much from your channel. Your information has been very valuable. Thank you for sharing about RV traveling with pets.

We have found that Waggle works great for us for our shorter trips. We also have a hot spot that we update with the best service for that area, typically AT&T. Its a Walmart service and there is always a Walmart around :). We also have a camera that pan, tilts and zooms we connect with the hotspot. These both are great so you can see what’s going on as well as knowing if you have power since things can happen.

The wife and I travel every year for our anniversary. Usually knock off for 3-4 weeks and see the country. We bring our 2 dogs, and 2 cats with us. Usually average about 3500-4500 miles per trip.
On travel days, we take the dogs to the park to run them hard for an hour or so. The cats we antagonize with the laser pointer for a while. Same thing... no naps until we're hitched up, and on the road.
Both the dogs and the cats roam the truck. I have a 2007.5 Dodge Ram 3500 DRW Megacab (6 speed G56 of course, for the cummins enthusiasts in the comment section) so they have plenty of space in the cab.
Koa (the kitten) typically sits on my lap the whole time. Willow (the other cat) looks a lot like dexter. She's part siamese, and like dexter... meows constantly, but usually sits on the console next to the wife.
Asher and timber (the dogs) just hang out the window and catch bugs on their Tongues.
We love taking our pets with us. We're in our mid-late thirties with no kids. Having our animals just makes it that much better in my opinion.
Keep up the good work and quality content.

We have only been asked twice for Casey's records. As far as declaring him as a pet traveling with us, as you said, most campgrounds say they don't matter😢. We have travelled with Casey on 2 long road trips (6 months). He has been fantastic. We only travel between 3-4 hours and let him have the run of the truck. He mostly sleeps on my lap, unless it is raining😂He hates the wipers and bolts to the backseat

We have the same functionality and more with our in command system in our RV. We also have the waggle simply for the alerting capability. I have it hooked to a non inverted outlet so we know if there is a power issue or a temp issue in the RV and can respond accordingly.
Really power is the thing we worry about the most on hot days. Out AC system can be run on auto so if we left on a cool morning and it got hot the system will just flip from heating to cooling and maintain whatever temp we set. That is so long as the RV has power. On a hot day if the power went out the first thing we would do is fire the generator which we can also do remotely via in command.

We have a service dog due to my veteran status, if you have a true service dog or cat, most of the documentation is not needed, however please make sure it's up to date. I have had so many instances where youngsters want to meet your service dog, and if he or she is anything like my service dog she wants everyone to meet her and acknowledge her contribution to her person and loves everyone. But you can end up in a bad situation if a bite occurs. Even though they are vested and is trained they may have a moment that you can not control. Vax is a must and proper training is needed.

One of my favorite local parks implemented the vaccine document requirement unbeknownst to us. They let us in but I had to call our vet and get them to email their records to me. The park probably would have let us slide that time but I saved that email and am now prepared to whip it out anytime we're confronted with that policy going forward! Also, we have two small malti-poo dogs, and often just pass them off as one dog if there is a PER DOG charge. I mean come on, their combined weight is less than 20 lbs!

Another great video! I’m trying to catch up with all your great amazing content. We have a 16 year old cat who is very content in the rv but doesn’t like travel days at all. I went with YoLink for temp/humidity sensors because you can do so much more with them than just receive an alert, like turn on heaters or incandescent bulbs if you are in cold temps and need to keep some bays warm. We also use their water leak detectors and those can actually turn off the water at the spigot AUTOMAGICALLY if a leak is detected at any of the sensors you place. For me, detecting a leak is barely worth the effort especially if you’re away. Lots of tech advantages to YoLink over others. I’m not affiliated with them. Just a fan since finding them. Low cost option with great automation features if desired. And easy to use.

Should also mention the Microair is nice, but does not give push notification on temps, even then it is on my want list. Their price is really hard to justify as a part timer though. On the monitoring side an alternative to Waggle is Marcell which uses ATT towers. There are other products like RV Whisper which does need full time wifi/internet in the RV to work, but it will send sms alerts for not just temperature of the RV, but can be setup for power and more. I even have alerts for my fridge temps!

When we had our kitty Mr. Onions, we kept his litter box in the shower on a liner to keep litter out of the gray water tank (it was next to the toilet, so it's the stinkiest room in the RV anyway). 😉 We used the shower at the campground anyway, so that wasn't an issue.
Mr. Onions always rode with us ensconced on his special bed on the center console between us. It comforted him, especially in his later years, that he could be close to his family and snuggle with them.

We have two dogs and, a few years ago, we travelled from Ontario Canada to camp at Letchworth State Park New York. Upon check-in at Letchworth we had to show their vaccination records. This was the first park to make such a request in over 10 years of RV travels with them. That said, neither the US or Canadian Border Service Agents have ever asked to see our documents. RV pet-life lesson learned: It's better to have these documents with you all the time for those rare occasions when you WILL NEED THEM.

We are not full timers. We do short trips in a 20 foot travel trailer. In the last three years, we have traveled with 2 of 3 cats ( one we had to leave home for various reasons) and one 75 lb. dog. I have never told the campground that we had cats. My cats are indoor only, so no one even knows that they were in the camper. They travelled in the hard plastic pet taxis when they are in the car. I didn’t have to worry about their safety if we stopped to get out of the car to walk to the dog or if we ever got into an accident. The dog was wearing a dog safety car harness for the same reason, so there was no worry about him getting loose or being tossed around if the car had an accident. I have had to show my dog’s vaccination papers when I registered upon arrival in several places. I did bring my pets into the camper a few times before the first trip we ever took so they could check it out. I have had to put out 2 litter boxes, one under the table and one covered one at the other end of the camper. I also have plugged in Feliway (a cat plug in pheromone), and had calming spray if needed for the car trip. The cats had their own blankets and pillows (like they have at home) to sit, rest, sleep on. The dog had his own dog bed. My husband made a ramp for us and the dog to use instead of the steps that are on the camper. We have had to find a doggie day care for one trip, otherwise we planned what to do around the dog. This season there will be major differences. One cat that was very easy to travel with died of old age (she was 17 1/2 years old) and kidney disease this January. My dog died the last day of September at age 13 and of congestive heart failure. Now is have to get the one cat who never travelled with us use to the cat carrier and the camper. We want to start taking a few longer trips this season. By the way, all my fur babies are microchipped, wear collars with ID and rabies tags on them. Make sure you update any change of phone number and address for the microchips and ID tags. The dog also wore a gps tracker. I’m looking into gps trackers for the cats in the event they ever manage to get out of the camper. Any ideas or recommendations would be great. Love watching your videos. Thanks for all the helpful information and ideas. Also, I enjoy watching about the different trips and place you have been to. Looking forward to this camping season, and more of your videos.

Although you said that Dexter isn't an outdoor cat and didn't leave the truck/RV, you did show Dexter on a leash that looks to be perfect for a cat. On the occasions that you use it, it might be helpful for cat people to know about it and how you came to use it. Timely video. This will help pet owners plan their upcoming trips.

I thought your dog advice was overall, pretty good. One thing.. the leash and teather rules go for cats too. Loose cats are a huge issue in parks.. not just because they may spray or dirty.. my dog could pull me off my feet if a cat approaches...
One other thing is to talk about what you would do if a pet crosses the rainbow Bridge while on the road. Our very healthy dog literally dropped dead in our RV... we were not prepares. It worked out but I wish there were a few things we did differently.
