I guess my main problem with incredibles 2 is that it feels like a more generic superhero adventure movie when the first was more than that. The first has a really good representation on what real people struggle with and has some very mature and realistic conversations between characters. Some of that is retained in the sequel but I feel like most of it gets shafted away for filler scenes. That being said it’s still a good film, just has a noticeable step down in writing from the first
Villain wants superheroes to be outlawed , also the villain : helps her brother from the start in his desire to make superheroes legal and loved again.. There's a bit of a conflict there lmao. The villain only exists because they help their brother, when they could've said no.
@@lexiyah643 liking a film is a seperate metric from the quality of the writing of the film. Like it as much as you want, nobody gonna hold that against you. It's only if there's a claim of quality being made where debates start one way or another. N
I adore the overall bittersweet theme Monsters University and Cars 3 share of "no matter how hard you dedicate to achive a goal, you just won't be able to do it. Not everyone's goal is achievable but that's okay because you can attempt similar paths to fufill your needs." Mike Wazowski always wanted to be a scarer and he when he couldn't, he later coaches and trains others to be what he always wanted to do before. Lighting McQueen has tried for months to outbeat Jackson Storm and be in his prime again, but has never been able to do so and ends up letting someone else take his position instead and guides them to excel at their role, possibly more than his prime did. I love these two films for tackling this theme because it's part of a nice lesson of life not being perfect, but there's still hope nonetheless Edit: I forgot to mention how Cars 3 has the better execution of "woman power" theme than Captain Marvel did, Cruz Ramirez solos Captain Marvel xDDDDD
@@silverscorpio24 I think what he or she is trying to say is “just because something doesn’t live up up to the original; doesn’t mean it’s THAT BAD” IMO Cars 2 is the only bad Pixar sequel
It says a lot when even Pixar's own CCO Pete Doctor has to say "We want to do original films, but we're gonna have to make sequels at this point", honestly kind of respect him for how blunt he is about the business side they have to deal with on a regular basis from Disney's end
They've been making a lot of original films though, haven't they? The only "sequel" Pixar released after Toy Story 4 came out is Lightyear, if you can call it that. Inside Out 2 is coming up, but that's to be followed by Elio.
@@ZakaZ1996 I heard around April there is going to be some negotiations of putting some people Iger dislike as board members of Disney which is probably why there has been a lot of sequel announcements so Iger can prove to investors that they can still make Disney successful.
@@Mr_bukowski4435 yeah but their success could have been better if they weren’t send straight to Disney plus when they were designed to be watched in theatres and everyone in Pixar was against it.
The problem with the sequels is that the originals are always so good, that the sequel has too much to live up to I think. They aren’t that bad most of the time, but its nothing compared to the original movies.
I agree like (excluding Toy Story 2&3) every other film Pixar franchise doesn’t really have a bad follow up film but more or less have a movie that just wasn’t better or as good as the original film like The Incredibles 2 isn’t really that bad but I do think if I were to rank it in a Pixar movie ranking it would be place like 4-5 places down
Syndrome was a perfect example of "Show, don't tell". That one scene where Mr. Incredible finds out the many heroes that had been secretly terminated, really solidified that without a single word.
I was 10 when The Incredibles came out in cinema. Even 20 years later when I watch that scene, my spine just tingles of the suspense. I swear to God Michael Giacchino knows how to make music.
8:35 Technically there is a mini-series called Cars on the Road that when all the episodes are put together is long enough to be a movie, also a prehistoric era, ghosts, the grim reaper, and cryptid hunters are all things in the Cars universe apparently.
With Pixar mentioning that sequels are fair game, it scared a lot of people considering they don't want them to make sequels that may ruined the originals and rather have them make actually original content, but with them later on saying they're are going to step back and try to find and make their future film as beloved as their old films probably soften the blow for now.
When the Cars 3 teaser trailer came out I was very young and i got kinda traumatized for like 1 week, I literally remember crying and not being able to sleep because of it lol 💀
My friends know I’ve loved Cars my entire love- whenever I go on my cars is the best Pixar film rant- they just show me *THAT* picture of lightning McQueen from cars 3- it hurts to this day
I remember seeing that in a theater (forgot what movie I was seeing) and people were gasping including myself, I needed to know what happend to my childhood icon. Than the movie was mid sadly
i genuinely like monsters university. i totally agree, it's not perfect and it's not the first one but the message is so poignant. when i was a kid i would always jokingly compare myself to mike, and then this movie came out a few years before i started college and i was like... it's not a joke anymore because i related so much to what he went through. seeing something rarely talked about that hit so close to home was really important for me then and like you said, i love that it's still able to be optimistic at the same time.
The issue with the Incredibles' sequel is that it was nearly a carbon copy of the first movie but watered down. Instead of Bob getting back into secret crime fighting, its Helen. Jack Jack technically saves the day, again. Speaking of Jack-Jack his story in this movie is pretty much a copy of the "Jack-Jack Attack" DVD extra about his traumatizing the babysitter. That bonus story was originally suppose to be in the movie. In the sequel instead of the babysitter, it's Bob who is pushed the breaking point. Violet's relationship with Tony get a factory reset. Dash remains the comic relief but actually gets less character development than the first movie. We get another twist villain but this time its completely obvious and the reasoning for becoming a villain is idiotic. I also find it funny that both villains are incredibly wealthy tech geniuses. There are just so many of these copy paste moments in the movie that you have to ask yourself if they did it on purpose.
My personal favorite non-Toy Story sequel is Finding Dory because it’s more inclusive to people with disabilities and has Destiny (I like her a lot). At the end of the day, though, as long as everyone…or I guess most of us agree that Cars 2 is trash, no one gets hurt
Cartoonshi doesn't hate Toy Story 4 with every fiber in his being? Cartoonshi must think nothing but lies, for Persephone knows no mercy. ... wait Cartoonshi is a real person?
I mean, Toy Story 4 isn't that bad. In fact, I'd say that the Toy Story series is one of the better movie quads out there. At least until Toy Story 5 comes out and ruins everything.
@@emperorfrozenbillrulerofan8767 Yeah. In fact, I would sat its excellent, and is even better than the first movie, despite not being quite as good as 2 or 3
I always thought 4 wasn’t a bad film and is enjoyable the hate it gets is understandable but for being a movie made purely for profit it did a good job
@Peanuts_Railfan_1225I mean he makes it seem more than an opinion. The dude rants about the director for over half the video and at times it really breaks the line between criticism and flat out angry bitter ranting
Aside from TS 2 and 3, the only ones I really liked were Monsters U and Finding Dory, especially the latter. I think the writers did a really good job with Dory's backstory, and it would've been easy to go with a much goofier story, but they kept the heart in there. Still with plenty of meme material from Gerald too
Toy Story 4 didn’t rehash Toy Story 2. Toy Story 2 is about Woody wanting to be admired by kids forever, since he fears Andy will grow out of him. In Toy Story 4, Andy has already grew up and moved on, and Woody know thinks he has no purpose, especially since Bonnie doesn’t give him the same love that Andy did. This is why he finally makes the choice to do something greater with his life. I agree that it’s flawed (dumb buzz, og characters sidelined) but it does expand on the Toy Story universe just like the ones before it
I semi appreciate his passion for these movies but oh my God so much of the TS4 rant could be removed and slashed. It could honestly be 2 hours or less if trimmed to remove the nitpicks and pointless in the long run sections
@@spacesoccercowboy6091 got some examples to back up the criticism? Because just saying there are nitpicks and irrelevant sections isn't helpful without an example of one or two of them
@@soulsearcher9620He spends 2 minutes about the inconsistent outfit Bo Peep has in the intro and also got annoyed about how Buzz and Woody's shoe has Bonnie's name on it while Jessie's doesn't (since Andy's name was on Woody's boot in a Toy Story special)
@@spacesoccercowboy6091 for the bo peep outfit , he mentions that he understands the motivation for the design change, ie to have Bo be able to have more motion than her previous iteration, but does fixate on it being a contradiction. I assume just to be as thorough as possible, and overall doesn't spend that long on the outfit. For the shoe name, the point there is that Toy Story 4 tries to imply that Jesse is a favourite toy of Bonnie's yet doesn't have her name written on her shoe while other characters do, the criticism there is just a lack of consistency in the details presented by the film. Details that wouldn't take long at all to do, just a copy paste of the "Bonnie" shoe name tag onto Jesse's model. Though considering she does nothing throughout the movie except pop a tire, despite being incredibly gung ho and adventurous as a character I guess they didn't feel the need to add that many details to her.
Cars 2 is a bad movie, but it’s so ridiculous and fun with its plot that I can’t help but love it, and the action sequences are great. I know it’s probably because of nostalgia but idk, it’s definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.
At least Cars 2 is better than whatever Pixar is releasing these days, I thought Turning Red was okay but very controversial in the fandom, Lightyear was unnecessary and ruins the lore of Toy Story, and I couldn’t get into Elemental, WALL-E is a better love story than Elemental, and the ending was predictable as I saw it coming from a mile away.
I agree lol. I could never honestly say it is a good movie, but man when I'm watching it I can never say that I'm not having fun. It is probably cos of nostalgia for me too, but I still don't think it is horrific. It doesn't destroy the emotional crux of the previous film at least unlike some Pixar sequels. And the music fucking slaps. It goes so hard and the action scenes are so good because they have that insane music as well as pretty cool shit happening. The plot may be stupid but who cares, it's a movie that I enjoy for all the wrong reasons, but I enjoy it nonetheless.
@@JonathanGaeta Your aloud to love Cars 2 two as much as you like But attacking other Pixar will not prove that Cars 2 is underrated Do me a favour and just enjoy what you enjoy without arrogantly expecting other people to agree with you
@JonathanGaeta i disagree. Elemental is way better than Cars 2 because it doesnt have a dumb main character like Mater. The action scenes are the only things good in cars 2
@@noobmasterruben5167 at least I can tolerate Mater than Ember and Wade. I’m sorry, but to me Wade is just Sadness but dialed up to 11 with him and his family crying and it takes me out of it. And Ember, well the words I’m searching for on how I would describe her, I can’t say cause there’s preschool toys prepped, but in a nutshell she’s very unlikable, only thinks about herself and her family the whole movie, and very mean spirited to everyone she’s around, she only feels sympathetic at the end of the movie and that’s it.
In comparison to dreamworks sequels Pixar and Disney sequels fall short for the most part. ESPECIALLY back then. Nobody cared about the beauty and the beast sequel, the Pocahontas sequel, the lady and the trump sequel, the Tarzan prequel???, etc etc. cause they were unneeded and didn’t have stories to tell. As for Pixar, only toy story for its trilogy was consistent until Pixar got greedy for cash. It’s not impossible to give these films coherent sequels but dreamworks seemed to have gotten it down way better for the most part. Shrek movies outside of 3, kung fu panes trilogy, how to train your dragon trilogy, etc.
I think a lot of the hate comes from not only how they’re generally preserved as being made for the sake of earning a large box office gross more than art, but with how many of them came out in a small period of time. With only 4 out of 11 movies released in the 2010’s being original IP’s (2 of them having been forgotten), it did not help that most of the sequels felt like they were being made in the same vain as Disney live-action remakes, especially in the later half of the decade when Disney started pushing out more of those types of movies. With that being said, I would happily take a dozen Pixar sequels over one more Disney live-action remake. Even if they are “cash grab” or “nostalgia bait” movies, there’s at least some sort of heart and care put into them, and they generally have the freedom to go in whatever route they want to in order to make these characters and universes at the very least interesting. They can accomplish what Disney live-action remakes do without being extremely bland, boring, and dependent on nostalgia.
I’ll never get over the Underminer coming up in a random parking lot, declaring war on the surface world, then immediately driving across town, robbing a bank, then peacing out.
Thank you so much for this video Cartoonshi! I’ve been rewatching the Pixar movies during this time and honestly it brings me back. Toy Story 2 is certainly my favorite but Incredibles and Finding Nemo are definitely up there. On the topic of the sequels though, like you said, they are fine films on their own (except for Cars 2 which back then I actually enjoyed fsr) but are incredibly inferior to the original films. I like some of the themes in them like Monsters University and Finding Dory but then there’s ones with bad stories like the infamous Cars 2 and Incredibles 2. Anyways, this video was awesome!
Honestly, i think the that out of all of those movies, the incredibles is the only one that actually deserved a sequel and had the most potential of being a good one. Like, theres so much to explore in that world that it felt right for a sequel to happen, like frozone barely having any screen time, or the family for exemple, on the first movie we mostly only seem bob and get to know him more than the others, and because of that, the rest of the family kinda felt underdevelop in comparison, specially violet and dash, and i really liked how the second movie decided to give the spotlight to helen this time and developed her further than the first movie, and i know this is a weid thing to mention about the movie, but IMO the entire family is the protagonist and their relationship with each other is one of the reasons why the plot was so great and superior to so many other super hero movies. Honestly I think a animated series where each episode focused on a different family member would've been cool, like how the comics do.
I always say about Cars 2 that it's a fairly decent movie, but I hate that they wasted the international racing aspect by using it as a set piece instead of having take center stage showing how racing circuits around the world are different and the racers from there showing it with their designs and their racing styles If they made Cars 2 as a movie that was part of the Mater's Tall Tales series it'd have been such a good movie having Mater actually go on a wild adventure that ends up with McQueen getting involved and the two save the world in the later half rather than just in the last 10 or so minutes
The most annoying part about Toy Story 4 to me isn’t its overall quality - tho it’s definitely not one of Pixar’s better films - but it’s just such a stupid addition to what felt like a great trilogy. The first three films had a solid start, middle and end, and felt like a complete journey not just for the characters, but for the audience that grew up beside the original movie. So when 4 comes along and doesn’t validate its existence at all, it sullies the impact of three’s ending so much more. It made money, and won an Oscar, but can anyone honestly tell me 4 feels like a necessary addition to the franchise?
I can. I definitely think the movie justified its own existence. It tackles and deconstructs themes and concepts that were present in the first three movies, but never fully explored. Woody’s arc is in TS4 is the perfect full circle culmination of everything that had happened in the other three movies. He went from being selfish and trying to sabotage Buzz to be with Andy in the first movie to fully letting go of his kid to help other toys get kids of their own.
Nah I disagree. Toy Story 4 made perfect sense and is an amazing film. I also really like the ending of that movie. Im glad it got all the money and awards it clearly deserved.
The next movies Disney is making are ONLY sequels except Elio who is an original film by Pixar. Moana 2, Frozen 3 and 4, Toy story 5, Zootopia 2, Inside out 2. ALL of them are in 3D which is dissapointing. Disney was really good with 2D; Rescuers, Aladdin, Mulan, Little mermaid, Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, Treasure planet, Atlantis etc. I miss this style of animation 🙁
Ok aside from Zootopia 2 I think every other movie will fail and suck Inside Out 2 is one where I can kind of see potential but it feels more like a 50/50 scenario rather that like a 90/10 scenario
I heard around April there is going to be some negotiations of putting some people Iger dislike as board members of Disney which is probably why there has been a lot of sequel announcements so Iger can prove to investors that they can still make Disney successful.
I’ll stand by Cars 3 not only being a good movie, but a necessary and interesting sequel. In Cars 1, Doc Hudson’s character is centered on the concept of race cars becoming outdated. This leaves a clear loose thread by the end of the movie that leaves the viewer wondering what this means for Lightning, since the movie never really addresses it. Cars 3 comes around and ties that thread. It’s also just a better movie than Cars 1 is, although that wasn’t exactly an impossible task (I’m saying that even as someone who likes Cars 1).
Pixar sequels aren't usually bad until the make too many of them. Like, Toy Story is about to have its 5th movie, when are they gonna stop milking that franchise?
They never miked Toy Story until this fifth movie. Toy Story 4 had something to say. It expanded on the Toy Story universe. There’s not a single bad Toy Story imo, but even if 5 is good, I’m not sure how it’ll continue the themes of the previous
@@Jacksiloution Oh, I guess you must think a chicken is a goat then. Because Cars 2 and goated don't belong in the same sentence. And Toy Story 4 is great, imagine hating on a perfectly good movie tackling if the theme of the trilogy is actually fulfilling, how embarrassing
I used to hate Cars 2 as a kid but after a recent rewatch it's just so ridiculous and nonsensical it comes off as incredibly entertaining. Might be my favorite Pixar sequel that's not Toy Story. Also, Finn McMissile is a really cool and charming character when the plot isn't forcing him to be a moron. If Cars 2 wasn't a cars movie or didn't revolve around Mater, he'd be a much more memorable character.
It depends. The cars franchise being the prime example. Cars two feels in line with the direct to dvd sequels Disney made in years prior, but Cars three feels like it actually had something to say, and is a sort of memorial to Paul Newman
@InevitableOption-ic2vxThat's bad ass. It's a shame that Pixar and Disney threw that out the window in favor of a forgettable and downright awful villain with comedy and themes that don't match the original at all.
I think the one who critque toy story 4 the best was nitpix less than 30 minute and articulated my problems with toy story 4 very well. My feelings are similar to his. Toy story 4 is funny i will admit for sure but it comes at the cost of the story and continuity reminds me of thor ragnarok jokes well made but comes at the expanse of story and continuity. I noticed writers give up solid writing and continuity for the sake of jokes or telling the story they need so badly by taking compromises. When you see toy story 2 commentaries they care about consistency in writing which i find admirable as i care about that a lot personally. Still solid video that i feel like you improved so much through out the years keep it up
Monsters University felt like a breathe of fresh air genuinely. I get why some people don't like it, but I personally love the dive into failing at something you really loved and wanted to be when you're young. It's great
I don’t care what anyone says I absolutely love the cars franchise. The original was the first movie I saw in a theater and it grabbed me. It’s just a simple story that I don’t find boring at all. I really like the characters, arcs, score, and especially the race scenes. They just managed to grab me in a way where it felt extremely comforting and familiar and I love it for that. Plus I feel like people dunk on this franchise too much and decide to ignore all the emotional moments just because Cars 2 exists. I get why people hate Cars 2 but I genuinely can’t hate the movie. It is a stupid movie but it is incredibly fun to watch. I think I respect it just because of how balls to the wall it is. Also the music and animation slap. It also at least tried to do something with its characters as well. Cars 3 is probably my biggest hot take. Cars 3 is my favorite of all the non Toy Story Pixar sequels. I just love how this movie is a tribute to Doc Hudson and Paul Newman. Lightning’s character arc is also extremely well done and genuine. I love that he learned that Doc’s best part of his life was training him. That scene gets me to tear up to this day. Cruz’s arc was also heartwarming and it was rewarding to see both her and Lighting succeed in the end. In my opinion it’s the only Pixar franchise that ended on a good note. The only problems I have is that Jackson Storm isn’t really a good villain and some of the Lighting is old jokes get old quickly, but besides that I still love Cars 3. I wish people would look at it and the whole franchise with more respect than it has.
i think the problem is with making sequels is that there isnt much to build off of so you have to make a whole new plot, because in the first movie the story is basically done.
Cars 3 is actually my favorite pixar film believe it or not. I went to see this movie in theaters with my dad when it was released and I had a great time with it. The movie has a lot of emotion to it and the music is still great as always, it's definitely miles better than whatever the hell Cars 2 was, Cruz was a pretty good character and seeing her get to finally fulfill her dream of being a racer was awesome. Good video man
I'm hoping Pixar can finally up there game with Inside Out 2, I loved the first movie. I think what the second movie seems to be doing can work, I just hope it can be exacuted well
For me the most memorable thing about Cars 2 is that Holley Shiftwell was my first ever crush Anyway 10/10 movie, up there with masterpieces like Taxi Driver and Hideo Kojima games
Dude it's a car how are you supposed to uhmmmm oh my god I have so many questions 💀💀💀 Jokes aside as a kid cars acting as John wick was rlly entertaining basically what I mean is that the action was rlly creative
Cartoonshi talking about how forgettable the Cars sequels are while i‘m over her probably being the only person remembering Planes 1 AND 2. Yes, they made TWO of them.
I found monsters university and cars 3 to be beautiful films. Because they looked at the legacy of their originals and gave us a fresh new perspective on the lives of the characters and having some lessons to take away for the audience that have more likely to have grown up with the first movie.
TS4 I think should've been a start to a new trilogy with new toys to focus on. By the title alone, Toy Story doesn't have to be exclusive to the toys we've been following, any toy can have their own story going on. I think they should've taken the chance to do something new.
You have to keep in mind that all the Toy Story movies (especially 2, 3, 4) have overarching themes. Coping, abandonment, etc. and you story sequels would have to continue the themes in some way. It can’t just be a good time adventure
It should've been. It could have reinvented the concept of a sequel and took place with different toys following the same general concept as the overarching movies.
One thing about cars 3 i respect is that you could tell they made it to give the cars franchise a proper ending instead of letting it end on a wet fart, and it’s one of the reasons why I really enjoy the film.
Screenslaver shouldnt have been a twist villain. I love how creepy he is before the reveal and i wish his whole screen obsession motive was genuine and not just there to make him a more like convincing villain in universe
Toy Story 3 was the first movie I have ever watched in a cinema and had an ending so perfect that I refuse to watch the 4° movie. Maybe I'd like it however the mere existence of Toy Story 4 is enough to make the trilogy less special as a whole. Btw fuck that fork thingy he's stupid.
im gonna be so honest, when i was in like- elementary i read a book from the school library that was basically half the plot of Incredibles 2, so when i ended up watching the movie i was disappointed because i already knew the plot despite not having seen it be4 (it was one of those '(insert grade) reading level Pixar book' (this was also like- 1 to 2 years be4 Incredibles 2 came out lmao))
I’m the resident Incredibles 2 apologist in my circle and I basically agree with everything you said. An actual fair and balanced critique of the film that isn’t just “Movie Bad”, what a concept
i personally think the biggest reason Incredibles 2 was not as good as it couldv'e been was the higher ups pushing the release date forward by a year. It may not have become a masterpiece like the original, but if the proper amount of time was given to Brad Bird, I believe the movie couldv'e come close. Like we saw in the scene that was cut of gaserbeam's funeral, there were those mature elements there. Even in the final movie. I think, Screenslaver, removed from Evelen, could have been something. His speech, as Elastigirl was tracking him down, tells us why he is doing this, people being consumed by media and not living in the moment and with the world around you. This could have been an interesting topic to discuss. The Underminer couldv'e had a bigger role instead of screenslaver. We'll never know because the film we got was rushed.
I actually like TS4 (although it is easily the worst one and I agree it didn’t need to happen). But to be perfectly honest, I like the direction of Woody’s character in the film. In TS2 Woody went back to Andy because Andy needed him. But in TS4, Bonnie doesn’t need Woody, and we see that in the beginning of the film.
Toy Story 4 has gotta be one of the worst sequels in recent history. It not only completely misunderstands the previous films and their characters, but actively undermines them
Yeah no, it deconstructs the previous films in an interesting way, showing the reality compared to that ideal. Toys don't just have to make children happy. There is more to their lives than what they are made for, especially when they don't receive love from their owners. They have value on there own, and toys thrown away need support and help
@@egbertmilton4003Exactly! I really hate the modern mentality that any movie or show in a franchise that goes even slightly against the pre-established grain or dares to raise interesting questions about their predecessors is automatically viewed as a “betrayal” of the previous installments.
I just need to get this out of the way, I love Cars 2. BUT I am also glad it didn’t affect Cars 3’s story. It is a fun movie to watch, and I remember it fondly growing up. It’s just fun action, likeable new characters, a reasonable plot, and cool places from around the world. And do NOT even get me started in the soundtrack, because that shit slaps. And I do agree that Mater should not have had as much screen time as he did.
if you want to understand why some like cars so much (exept cars 2) there is a video that goes into detail why cars and car 3 are good movies.the video in question is by "The Unlucky Tug".
It was hilarious watching the 6 hour Toy Story 4 attempt to call Cars on the Road terrible because it ruined both Cars' continuity and it's "emotional impact." I loved the show regardless of quality as pure entertainment just like Cars 2.
Jesus, I rewatched Monsters University recently with family and i realized, holy shit poor Randy had an awful time at college. He arrived and was lonely, wanting nothing more than to make new friends and feel popular for once in his life. Spent the first part of the movie becoming friends with Mike and tried to help him. After Sulley got kicked out of ROR (which was essentially the "cool bully" group of the college) they replaced Sulley with Randy, Mike went to try to ask Randall for help and to join his team, but he was too late, by the time he did Randy had already joined ROR, they only truly liked him for his ability to turn invisible. As the two groups fought each other in the scare games, they went against one another but were never really harsh against one another. How ROR treated it's members as "the bullies" changed how he began to treat his old friend, joining in on their prank and making fun of Mike's new team. At the end of the movie, when ROR Went up against OK (mike's team) it was Randall vs. Sulley in the simulator for scaring children. Sully went in and did a loud, extremely good roar that shook the room making Randall fall onto a heart-patterned rug of pink and purple in the room, making him lose his camouflage and instead taking the same colors. He got the lowest score of ROR. Upon coming out the other members of ROR insulted him with the leader chastising him for losing, making him say that would be the last time he'd lose to Sulley. (and making him bitter) The event ended with ROR narrowly losing to OK when Mike pulled off the final scare. At the end they kicked Randy out of the group entirely and he was never seen again for the entirety of the rest of the movie, either implying A: he hid away in shame and was a wreck afterwards, or B: they harmed him or did something to him that made him physically incapable of appearing again onscreen, telling Sulley instead that they were wrong and they "had a spot for him right here". My mans didn't deserve the hand he got dealt. :( TLDR: Randall had it bad in Monsters University, he: Joined as a shy nerd who just wanted to make friends and feel what it was like to be popular. Actually got "in" with the "cool guys" on campus, only for his ability to become invisible, and they essentially gaslit and changed his views and actions towards others, making him more of a bully himself to try to fit in. Then, was kicked out at the end, blamed as the sole reason they failed, and left with nothing.. not even the one friend he'd truly made who it seemed had just forgotten all about him, or he'd pushed away for being his enemy. I hope they do something with him in the future..
Even since after the release of Toy story 3, Pixar's sequels (along with the other projects) has mostly been a missed bag, sure we still have a bunch of bangers that can still stand the test of time but sequels have never been their strong suit , sure compared to most other films even Car 2 which is consider Pixar's worst film is considered a masterpiece compared to the slop out there, but as sequel to some of their most beloved IPs it's a disappoint.
The cars franchise got so many fans because… I mean it’s pretty obvious it’s about cars and it raised an entire generation of car enthusiasts. Not to mention the first film is one of the most visually beautiful Pixar films, and it sucks but as rhe series went on the visuals got more lack luster. But also it has the absolute best sound design of any movie ever. Whoever did the sound effects for Mcqueens V8 is a Master, the scene where he is about to race doc and they bass boosted the hell out of his startup, u can even hear the metallic sound from heavy nascar starter. THE SOUNDRACK IS ALSO TOO TIER. TBH tho feel only car enthusiasts can fully appreciate the movie because most stuff enthusiasts would understand, non car enthusiasts would not understand how accurate it is to cars and car culture, so many subtle details like Flos V8 Café being shaped like a carbureted V8 with the pistons being where the pumps are, the roof being the heads and the lights being the spark plugs. It has so many references to races and cameos from famous car people like Jay Leno and Dale Jr. There is so much to love about it including the importance life lessons of how fame and riches isn’t everything, and true good people are the most important thing in life. Cars 1 and Wall-E are peak Pixar
I guarantee that if Cars 2 was just called Maters Tall Tales: The movie then it wouldn't have gotten as much hate as it did. Also, I don't care what anyone else says Finding Dory and Monsters University are underrated.
Agreed Cars 2 literally feels like Mater the movie and if Pixar would’ve went with that it probably wouldn’t have gotten as much hate. Would it have still been a bad movie? Absolutely but slightly less.
@@acceptable1609 It's not a bad movie at all but it's definitely a bad sequel which is why I think it would've been way better if they just named it something like Mater's Tall Tales instead
I think Toy Story 4 is one of the best post-TS3 Pixar sequels, honestly. It's also the worst Toy Story, but not by THAT much. People make their minds up before some of these movies come out because we "dont need" another installment. I dont care if we "don't need" another Toy Story, or any other franchise, I care if the movie is good. And some of them are good, some are mediocre, some are actually just awful. They don't have to match the greatness of the original material to be solid and worthwhile.
Finding Dory and Incredibles 2 are really funny because both are products of their respective writer-directors trying to make a major live-action blockbuster for Disney that became a total disaster and forced them to come back to Pixar and finally do a sequel to their beloved film
Honestly Incredibles 2 isn’t bad and I do like the idea that this film focuses on the over reliance on heroes but it would’ve been nice if they showed more of the dangers of that and had a villain that was actually interesting and kept our attention during the entirety of the film.🐱
My biggest issue with Toy Story 4 is Buzz, like God damn what did they do to him. I cannot understand how a major plot point is him thinking his voice box is his concious, when, yknow, the entire first movie was about him realising he's a toy. It's like his character got a lobotomy
The fact people are willing to defend GamingMagic13's videos just cause he may have raised some good points proves to me that the internet never actually evolved from the Mr. Enter era.
Even more surprising: there's an entire subreddit (with another movie critic TH-camr as its name) dedicated to hate him . There are 20k people there shitting on him just because he made a couple of video that pissed them off.
How dare people defend a point they agree with? There's a bad way of doing that obviously but I'm just hearing people who are just saying that he basically just said what they were thinking in a more eloquent manner than they could have.
I am so glad more people are giving Monsters University credit for how good it is. Not as good as the first, but still a freaking solid movie. One thing I want to say is that Monsters University did what Cars 3 wanted to do with the story of "sometimes you can't achieve your dreams" far better. Cars 3 kept setting up that McQueen can still race well, so when he's suddenly starting to fail like crazy it just comes out of nowhere so he can send Cruz out. Meanwhile in Monsters University they show what Mike's really good at throughout the film more so than him trying to be a scarer. As Mike was shown to present his knowledge and coaching skills a LOT throughout the film. If McQueen had been focused on teaching Cruz what he knew more than trying to refine his own skills, the switch would have felt a lot more natural. Heck even the main deleted scene from Cars 3, the original reason why McQueen can't race, works infinitely better. Because instead of saying McQueen can't win because he's old, it's because Cruz was giving better numbers and his manager fires him, replacing him with Cruz. Cruz doesn't want to race in his stead, but he lets her anyways. Dinoco then decides to repay the favor from the 1st film and allow McQueen to race under their banner, bringing his dreams from the first film full circle as now they're what give him his chance to show the new generation he has what it takes. Admittedly the ending to the race in the deleted scenes was really lame, but the setup is far better than what we got and would have worked out a lot better, at the least feeling a little more like what M.U. was setting up, but instead saying that sometimes your dreams are taken away by life, but also that you shouldn't give up hope either. Just a lot of words to say M.U. did what Cars 3 was trying to do but better.
Back when i was a kid i would always be wishing for sequels. Toy story, incredibles etc. now i’m just hoping they don’t touch movies that don’t have a sequel, only a matter of time before they make rattatuiolle 2
That being said it’s still a good film, just has a noticeable step down in writing from the first
Villain wants superheroes to be outlawed
, also the villain : helps her brother from the start in his desire to make superheroes legal and loved again..
There's a bit of a conflict there lmao. The villain only exists because they help their brother, when they could've said no.

I love these two films for tackling this theme because it's part of a nice lesson of life not being perfect, but there's still hope nonetheless
Edit: I forgot to mention how Cars 3 has the better execution of "woman power" theme than Captain Marvel did, Cruz Ramirez solos Captain Marvel xDDDDD

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: There is a stark difference between the writing of the first films and the following sequels, thanks to Disney.
What's wrong with the Toy Story sequels? I think they're masterfully done. Even the 4th film to an extent though it does have its problems.
@@BeeKee404 Toy Story 2 and 3 were great. The fourth sucked.
But name any other Pixar sequels besides those two that live up to the original.

IMO Cars 2 is the only bad Pixar sequel
It says a lot when even Pixar's own CCO Pete Doctor has to say "We want to do original films, but we're gonna have to make sequels at this point", honestly kind of respect him for how blunt he is about the business side they have to deal with on a regular basis from Disney's end
They've been making a lot of original films though, haven't they? The only "sequel" Pixar released after Toy Story 4 came out is Lightyear, if you can call it that. Inside Out 2 is coming up, but that's to be followed by Elio.

John Wick movies are one of the very few that do sequels better than the previous ones
Problem is that 4 is the best the Director could do
Then every now and then, you get something like Puss in Boots or Across The Spiderverse, which really do justice to their predecessors.

Those are silly obviously, but at least the show is self aware it’s absurd. Unlike cars 2 which took itself seriously
I mean, a giant tractor man existed in the original Cars, and car wrestlers are a thing in those Mater shorts.
The show where Mater escapes death
That show was so unhinged and I love it
With Pixar mentioning that sequels are fair game, it scared a lot of people considering they don't want them to make sequels that may ruined the originals and rather have them make actually original content, but with them later on saying they're are going to step back and try to find and make their future film as beloved as their old films probably soften the blow for now.

i genuinely like monsters university. i totally agree, it's not perfect and it's not the first one but the message is so poignant. when i was a kid i would always jokingly compare myself to mike, and then this movie came out a few years before i started college and i was like... it's not a joke anymore because i related so much to what he went through. seeing something rarely talked about that hit so close to home was really important for me then and like you said, i love that it's still able to be optimistic at the same time.
Can we all just agree that monsters university is one Pixar’s most underrated films

I always say about Cars 2 that it's a fairly decent movie, but I hate that they wasted the international racing aspect by using it as a set piece instead of having take center stage showing how racing circuits around the world are different and the racers from there showing it with their designs and their racing styles
If they made Cars 2 as a movie that was part of the Mater's Tall Tales series it'd have been such a good movie having Mater actually go on a wild adventure that ends up with McQueen getting involved and the two save the world in the later half rather than just in the last 10 or so minutes
@@SlipNJimmyWoody completed that arc sabotaging Buzz in the first movie
Worse than Cars 2.There, at least the characters and friendship of Maquin and Mater did not kill.

Ok aside from Zootopia 2 I think every other movie will fail and suck Inside Out 2 is one where I can kind of see potential but it feels more like a 50/50 scenario rather that like a 90/10 scenario

Man, Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2 cud really benefit from the Spiderverse/Paperman art style 🙄
Theyre afraid to do another 2d film bc of how poorly Princess in the Frog did (despite being really good imo)
That’s because they’re sequels to 3D movies, that’s why they’re 3D
I’ll stand by Cars 3 not only being a good movie, but a necessary and interesting sequel. In Cars 1, Doc Hudson’s character is centered on the concept of race cars becoming outdated. This leaves a clear loose thread by the end of the movie that leaves the viewer wondering what this means for Lightning, since the movie never really addresses it. Cars 3 comes around and ties that thread. It’s also just a better movie than Cars 1 is, although that wasn’t exactly an impossible task (I’m saying that even as someone who likes Cars 1).
That six hour review of Toy Story 4 was actually really enjoyable even if it is mentally insane

My dedication to wanting your music playlist will not end PLEASE MORE ROCK MUSIC!!!
i think the problem is with making sequels is that there isnt much to build off of so you have to make a whole new plot, because in the first movie the story is basically done.
Yes, I love Monsters University so much, I'm glad more people are understanding how great it is.
I think what the second movie seems to be doing can work, I just hope it can be exacuted well
2:17 That same guy ranted about Incredibles 2
For me the most memorable thing about Cars 2 is that Holley Shiftwell was my first ever crush
Anyway 10/10 movie, up there with masterpieces like Taxi Driver and Hideo Kojima games
Your first ever WHAT NOW
Dude she’s a car…
Dude, Holly Shiftwell sounds a lot like holy sh-
Dude it's a car how are you supposed to uhmmmm oh my god I have so many questions 💀💀💀
Jokes aside as a kid cars acting as John wick was rlly entertaining basically what I mean is that the action was rlly creative
Lmao the replies are focusing on physical features and not the personality, which is the biggest trigger of crushes. Kinda sad innit?
Cartoonshi talking about how forgettable the Cars sequels are while i‘m over her probably being the only person remembering Planes 1 AND 2.
Yes, they made TWO of them.
I honestly think the second one was better than the first one.
I didn't know this until recently but they planned on making a THIRD one
That would’ve been pretty cool.
It should've been. It could have reinvented the concept of a sequel and took place with different toys following the same general concept as the overarching movies.
Unpopular opinion:
Cars 3 is my all time favorite Pixar film and one of my favorite animated films.
Sameeeeeee
I can see why , that endigns rlly good
cars 2 was unironically better
fair enough cars 3 is very underrated
@azurite_ore9647 I agree, Cars 2 is honestly peak.
The trilogy concluded Andy’s relationship with Andy. 4 is about him coping with it
im gonna be so honest, when i was in like- elementary i read a book from the school library that was basically half the plot of Incredibles 2, so when i ended up watching the movie i was disappointed because i already knew the plot despite not having seen it be4 (it was one of those '(insert grade) reading level Pixar book' (this was also like- 1 to 2 years be4 Incredibles 2 came out lmao))

Incredibles 2 should’ve been a timeskip tbh
It would’ve been nice to see the Parrs as an older a couple and their kids grown up in their own way

Can't wait for Finding Marlin to get announced
I actually like TS4 (although it is easily the worst one and I agree it didn’t need to happen). But to be perfectly honest, I like the direction of Woody’s character in the film. In TS2 Woody went back to Andy because Andy needed him. But in TS4, Bonnie doesn’t need Woody, and we see that in the beginning of the film.
The thing i love with the toy story sequals animation the further they go is how good the textures on each toy looks and thats about it
Toy Story 4 has gotta be one of the worst sequels in recent history.
Word
I just need to get this out of the way, I love Cars 2. BUT I am also glad it didn’t affect Cars 3’s story.
It is a fun movie to watch, and I remember it fondly growing up. It’s just fun action, likeable new characters, a reasonable plot, and cool places from around the world. And do NOT even get me started in the soundtrack, because that shit slaps.
And I do agree that Mater should not have had as much screen time as he did.
At least its not as messy as KFP 4. That movie replaced Tigress with an even worse character
1:05 that hug looked so good
if you want to understand why some like cars so much (exept cars 2) there is a video that goes into detail why cars and car 3 are good movies.the video in question is by "The Unlucky Tug".
Such a good video
I love the unlucky tug's content so much

Holy crap I never realized how thin Violet was in the first Incredibles movie. Where are her organs?
(and making him bitter)
The event ended with ROR narrowly losing to OK when Mike pulled off the final scare.
TLDR: Randall had it bad in Monsters University, he:
Joined as a shy nerd who just wanted to make friends and feel what it was like to be popular.
I hope they do something with him in the future..
after this vid i watched finding nemo and ate fish
I always love when I watch one of your videos and hear Unbeatable music used in the background
Cars 2 is a fantastic children’s spy movie, however you’re right about it being a bad cars sequel
I still don’t understand how Pixar looked at Cars 2 and said, “You know what the sequel for this movie about sentient cars needs to be about? SPIES!”
I refuse too acknowlege there's a a 4th Toy Story movie. There are 3 plus the Halloween special and Star Command
Honestly Incredibles 2 isn’t bad and I do like the idea that this film focuses on the over reliance on heroes but it would’ve been nice if they showed more of the dangers of that and had a villain that was actually interesting and kept our attention during the entirety of the film.🐱
It does have a really interesting premise
My biggest issue with Toy Story 4 is Buzz, like God damn what did they do to him. I cannot understand how a major plot point is him thinking his voice box is his concious, when, yknow, the entire first movie was about him realising he's a toy.
It's like his character got a lobotomy
Writers of Wreck it ralph 2 really ignored the message at the first film. Incredibles 2 is same but repeating the plot of the first movie.
2:13 I like the reference to gamingmagic13’s Toy Story 4 video
The fact people are willing to defend GamingMagic13's videos just cause he may have raised some good points proves to me that the internet never actually evolved from the Mr. Enter era.
What are you talking about, the Internet has evolved.
The only trouble is, it evolved for the worst.
Even more surprising: there's an entire subreddit (with another movie critic TH-camr as its name) dedicated to hate him .
There are 20k people there shitting on him just because he made a couple of video that pissed them off.
@@madmouse4400You mean the Schaffrillas Productions SubReddit? I was wondering why GamingMagic13’s logo was on Schaffrillas’ Subreddit.

How dare people defend a point they agree with? There's a bad way of doing that obviously but I'm just hearing people who are just saying that he basically just said what they were thinking in a more eloquent manner than they could have.
Cartoonshi I first saw your channel with the Borderlands 3 video and holy shit your fucking killing it, keep it up
I dont get the cars 2 hate. Its funny and stupid and doesnt take itself serious. Its cool too man why
Look, I like Cars 2 like how I like Shark Tale, it’s so bad it’s good.
And also the spy scene from cars 2 two is pretty cool not gonna lie.
Back when i was a kid i would always be wishing for sequels. Toy story, incredibles etc. now i’m just hoping they don’t touch movies that don’t have a sequel, only a matter of time before they make rattatuiolle 2
