Many of us old timers are constantly on the lookout for a descent western we haven't seen a couple dozen times. I'm pushing 70 and I can honestly say I have never actually seen this one before. It was a good one. Thanks.
@@cwtcknesswell, if you still feel like a spring chicken at 75, then you're doing alright. I reverted back to swinging a hammer again because my framing guns are too damn heavy on account of my arthritis.
Howard Duff never disappoints!! It felt strange at first to see Victor Jory as the villain, but I must say he convinced me as the movie progressed!! I've seen him in MANY Westerns; he was highly underrated as an actor!! This was a good movie, on all fronts - script/dialogue, acting, director, photography!!
I agree except one thing stood out to me- a low slung, tied down 45 on a drug store cowgirl was a bit much. Not all, in fact few "tied down", that's for quick draw. But make believe is... make believe.
@14:42, Howard Duff's saddle horn is wrapped, signifying a 'roping saddle'. Since he's portraying a rancher, somebody in studio continuity apparently did their homework. Victor Jory always portrayed a perfect bad guy!
As kids in Ithaca, my brother and I first saw this movie on the late late show, and enjoyed it. He;s gone now, but I still enjoy it, as it brings back fond memories. Thanks for the upload.
Il y a énormément de westerns ! Rappellez vous la dernière séance avec eddy mitchell, c etait les mercredis soirs ,un pur bonheur à chaque fois ! C ' était les années 80 !😢
First time watching this movie. Margaret Field (Sally Field was her daughter) played Nita Riordan. She married Jock Mahony. Notice Sally looked alot like her mother Margaret. Excellent movie.
This was a really good Western that I had not seen before. I liked how most (w/a few exceptions) of the town big shots, the sheriff, lawyer, doctor, etc., stuck together for a change. And how the bad guys never really got the upper hand. In most of the Western storylines they usually have the big shots and townspeople turn against the good guy gunman. It was a nice change not to have to feel pissed off at the so called "good guys" for most of the movie.
According to IMDb trivia, before hanging Ketchum, the rope was tested the night before. A 200 pound sandbag was used for the test. Someone failed to remove the sandbag prior to the actual hanging. The added weight caused the rope to be as stiff as wire. This caused Ketchum to be decapitated at the hanging.
Im pretty sure the real black jack was decapitated after he was hung and the length of rope was miscalculated. For anybody that wants to know, visit Clayton New Mexico.
I don’t bother looking for stuff just enjoy the flick already,,,once ya start looking for things to pick at ya start killing the enjoyment of watching a durn good movie,,,,
Holy crap he just bought those cattle for $10,000.😮 I don't know what year this is 1880?? but that's a hell of a lot of money. $500,000 in 1913 is about $11 Million in today's economy.
Black Jack Ketchum (real name Thomas Edward Ketchum) was 6'4", had a moustache, and was hanged on 26th April 1901 aged 37, during which he had his head ripped off during the hanging.
At the 13:42 mark, a nosey drama-filled lady verbally ruins his chances to go unnoticed in a small town and ironically shoots down his chances for a fresh start without chaos. LOL. LOL. Typical. LOL. LOL.

Excellent Western; very entertaining with plenty of twists but justice in the end, thank you!

What I liked about Victor Jory is that he kicked the shit out of Errol Flynn.

Margaret was an excellent actress.

Weird that there was no scene of Blackjacks bother execution, because once they hung him he was decapitated completely.

Ooo yukkk
Victory Jory, along with Richard Conte 2 of my favorite actors of this type.
Richard Conte wasn't in this movie.

That was the quickest year in movie history. One scene they are riding to the valley, the next scene he was there almost a year. Good movie though.

The great Zane Gray!
Blackjack hung in 1901 for train robbery buried in Clayton NM.
A bad set of adverts ... spoilt a good flick.
Commercials every 5 minutes is not enough, should make them every 2 minutes. Your channel will really grow then.
Then pay for prime
Nice movie.... just a pity about the kid playing around with a echo chamber :) Spoiled it!
