    Am I the only one around here who thinks the tear stain still looks awful even after she cleaned it? That build up looks at least a month old... The tears need to be cleaned up EVERY DAY, or at least every other day, and (with proper cleaning solution) the stains will not even be there at all.

      +Andra Todorescu Hopefully she let it get bad for the purpose of demonstrating the product but, yeah, take care of this at LEAST once a week.

    After grooming for over 40 years, I have not found anything that removes stains instantly. I would not waste my money on a product unless it really worked. What a dog comes into my shop and believe me I have had some cases that were 10 times worse. Sometimes there is so much black junk that is hard as a rock, that the only way in removing it is to put the dog in the tub and use your fingers to break it up. After doing that I take a flea comb and go between the eyes removing all the clumps that were on top of the hair. I found that using a small shedding comb even works better. After I cleaned up as much as I am able to get off, I wash and dry the area. Then use a clipper to remove as much hair as I could. There are some products out there that lighten up the stain. I sometimes tell customers to use a very little amount of Vaseline where the stain is. Once the eyes start running, the Vaseline repels the tears. This is not a permanent solution. I bought a cream a while back that was white and it looked like face make up. It worked well to cover up the stained area, but also was able to repel the tears. I don't know if that is still available or not.

    This is absolutely ridiculous! Any maltese owner knows you need to clean their eyes daily.. harden build up is not a matter of few days. I have groomed many dogs professionally and this build up is neglect. Instead of moistening it with a product, wash your dog more often. .my maltese gets a bath every 3 days and her eyes wiped every day. Burts bees is not going to help your dog unless you start being a responsible owner. Appalling you allow it to accumulate this much. .do you realize that matter burns their skin? If left on too long, I've seen dogs I have groomed where their owner left it to sit and burns a good portion of flesh..

    Just cut the hair off when it's that bad... All that's needed to cleanse the eye area is to wipe the area twice daily with cooled down boiled water, rub in a tiny bit of dog shampoo, rinse, dry...do that twice a day and you won't get a great deal of 'build up' of eye snot. Apart from that, avoid food and treats which contain additives/food colouring which will cause the tears and saliva to 'dye' surrounding hair... Add a little natural yohurt and honey to diet, and a small amount of Apple Cider Vinegar to drinking water...should help to lessen the staining x

    • @joeblow1252
      @joeblow1252 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You seriously suggest shampooing the face EVERY DAY? Without washing the entire dog? In that case you are just smacking on more and more tensides and irritating skin and eyes. All you need is a tear stain product and to wipe the face once or twice a day. That's it. A cotton pad with some lotion, it takes 20 seconds a day. I have kept my (show) Maltese spotless this way for years. Not even a shadow under the eyes.
      As for the dietary advice, that is nonsense - honey and yoghurt have no effect on tear staining whatsoever. Adding anything to your dog's drinking water is lunacy as you risk the dog drinking insufficiently because of the taste.

    If you really want to see a difference in staining on your dogs, feed your dogs WELLNESS brand(COMPLETE HEALTH) dry dog food and filtered or bottled water (not sure the water makes that big of a difference because I gave her that since she was 8 weeks old). My Mikka is 9 years old. I got her at 8 weeks and she had staining problems. I tried multiple things. None worked. I ran into a man with a Maltese at PetSmart and he told me what I'm telling you. Mikka turned as while as can be...no more staining, and she's a licker. 3 weeks after I started her on that diet she was a different looking dog. Her groomer saw her and asked what I did to get rid of the staining. I told her. Mikka stayed white until about 2 years ago when I had to put her on ROYAL CANIN special diet to determine what she was allergic to that was causing eye infections. I ended up keeping her on that wet food EXPENSIVE special diet for a year partly trying to figure her allergies and the other reason was she didn't want to eat her Wellness because it was dry food. I finally gave up the ROYAL CANIN Special diet canned food and went back to her WELLNESS dry, AND added a little canned WELLNESS (small little can) for flavor for her. Within 3 weeks, she was all white again. If I knew how to send you guys pictures of before and after as a puppy, and before and after now, you would be shocked. It is unbelievable! Tell me how to post the pictures, and I'll be happy to do so! This is what I feed Mikka.
    WELLNESS COMPLETE HEALTH GRAIN FREE for Small Breeds (Yellow & purple bag)
    WELLNESS Petite Entress (very small plastic with foil top can)- I feed her about 1/2 can mixed with the dry for each feeding for flavor)
    DASANI or AQUAFINA bottled water, but she loves for me to hold her up to the kitchen sink and drink water as it flows from the faucet
    Treats she's always been given:
    PET BOTANICS Brand Mini Training Treats
    NUTRO Brand Crunchy Treats (Mixed Berry)
    Recently started giving her a GREENIE for her teeth once a day

      Actually that is not alot, it just seems because the fur gets coloured after leaving it for a day or so but it people just don't have soo much time to clean them.. Luckily stained fur can be removed just by cutting it what i do with my dog. He gets really stained and then i have to wash him and let his eye poo soft a bit so than i remove it with cotton ball and them i cut of the excess! :3 ! So don't worry its not so serious, all that red fur is actually stained fur and that what you see in corner of his eyes are eye poo!

    Wow. This was super hard to watch. The cleaning product is doing nothing and his fur stains are horrific! This dog needs a nutritional overhall including an internal detox. What shows on the outside is a symptom of what is going on in the inside. Oh, and the stains actually intensify with exposure to natural light. So I'm with the people recommending daily (or twice daily) cleaning. Get the discharge off before it has the chance to run down the face and stain even more.

Just plain warm water gets the goobers out of their eyes and this poor dog had horrible goobers, not just staining. I think this is the worst case I've ever seen. Disgusting. I agree, it doesn't look good, but it's evident she care for her fur babe. There are thousand's of dogs who are sitting in shelters/pounds who are euthanized daily. At least she's working on it & will hopefully keep up with maintaining his tear stains. Lets focus on ppl who leave their dog's out in the cold, partake in dog fights & are physically harmful.

    • @themaggattack

      AnnW... coconut oil is actually two words 🙄... but it's a great suggestion. It works for everything!

    • @themaggattack
      @themaggattack 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I just tried coconut oil and I had to comment again to THANK YOU!!! I can't help but rave about this! Another great thing about coconut oil is that if they lick it, it's no big deal at all, since it's etible.
      This is the first day I've used coconut oil on my baby puppy, but I imagine the oil will make her fur a bit slick so new eye goop probably won't stick as much.
      I have a teeny tiny shih tzu puppy. She's super squirmy and playfully nippy especially when I try to groom her face. I try to redirect her from nipping my fingers by always having her toy at the ready for her while grooming. I had just been using warm water on a cloth to wipe her eye goop every day. But that goop dries up so quickly if you don't catch it right away. Yesterday morning I pulled a tiny piece of goo that had dried up overnight off the tip of her fur and she did NOT like that. She was already a squirmy little nipper, but that pull made her not trust me, so the squirming & nipping became totally uncontrollable after that. So today, after reading your suggestion, I used *coconut oil* and took my time calmly massaging the eye boogers out of her fur. I held her little chew toy in one hand for her to gnaw on instead of my finger and just took time gently massaging all the goop off her face and she let me because it didn't pull or hurt her at all. Doing this from the very start will go such a long way in helping her to be calm and trust me and let me groom her. Idk why I didn't think of coconut oil to begin with. It works for everything else. Coconut oil is the only thing that ever soothed my daughter's diaper rash when she was a baby. It's also the only thing that soothes the eczema on my hands without burning. Coconut oil is like the nectar of the gods!

    Its not uncommon for some Maltese to get a lot of red eye and no redeye. I have 4 and all 4 are different. All have the same diet and water. My water is well and filtered.. there goes that myth. My dogs are all on grain free.. fish high end food... there goes that myth. I have tried angel eyes. all that stuff, This diet helps but to me either they get it or not. Usually by the time they hit 2 yrs. its not as bad. However my bad boy.:) steals the babies food which is not grain-free and his red eye is much worse again. Also use a flee comb or lice comb. much better just a tip.
