I have been suffering from depression for 14 years. Ajahn Brahm's lectures helped me get out of the depression. I adopted Buddhism and leading a contended life now.
That is wonderful!! I can only agree with what you say. Buddhist attitudes of compassion, kindness, humility and understand have helped me more than any therapy session or pill.
I’m going to bed with Ajahn Brahm again tonight. He’s been my constant companion for weeks now. To go to sleep, I turn the volume down really low so that I can barely hear his voice. He’s my sleep aid.
LOL...Ajahn Brahm truly is a great story teller. It's no wonder he's captivating and is able to hold your attention -- one of the reasons why I listen to him daily. His jokes are funny as hell, and when he tells them, he laughs along with you. Sadhu!
Yop are right life is not only about stress it is about letting go lett go of all tension. prace to my daughter Mystica for showing me that.God Bless her soul.
Beautiful, I feel like a child when I listen to this talk. It's like removing all the clouds and fog that blinds us of who we are and our nature of freedom and self confidence that we are inside. Thanks Ajahn Brahm!
I remain a big fan of Ajahn Brahm. An observation: Ajahn Brahm is addressing himself mostly to people in the midst of actual crisis. He is trying to be as helpful as possible to these people.(And it is worth noting that if the person in actual crisis is not you now, it will be in the future.) He is not addressing himself to issues in the abstract or theoretical issues. He is not all that concerned about the correctness of the language. He is addressing himself to boots-on-the-ground suffering. The reason I am saying this is because it is easy to get tripped up on Ajahn Brahm's take on this or that specific event which you might not agree with. It is sometimes best to overlook the specifics of what he is talking about (especially newsy stuff) and focus on the overall message, which is in my view extremely well-informed and compassionate. It just might help you out of a serious jam.
I have just returned to my home town and was talking to a homeless guy from Poland. I have mental health issues and was saying how I find him helpful. He said his name before I got to. People from all walks of life take inspiration from you xxx
I feel a sense of relaxation in knowing the fact that every thing is out of control so why bother worrying do your best and thats that thank you for the talk Ajahn Brahm
for going on two years ive enjoyed this wonderfull loving humanbeing teach and guide in such a heartwarming joyful and yes somtimes funny way that i do belive would make the buddha himself smile... does he make mistakes,...sure he does and in his talks he admits that he does.....but he doesnt seem to judge and hes helped to bring joy and peace through the harder times of this last 2 years... and the better times too... another great talk ajahn thank you.
i remember falling asleep @ the Vipassana centre in Brookton. 😉❤️🧘🏼♂️✨🏡 i got woken up by another student coz i was snoring. some students were smiling and giggling. at the end of the course a lady said i sounded sooo peaceful. insomniac ya know Ajahn. 🙂 i hope to m33t you soon Bro. or at least come and meditate at Serpentine 🎨
For me listeñing to Ajahn Brahm helps me get to sleep, but it is annoying when he gets excited and yells because it wakes me up. The talks are very interesting and many I have listened to over and over falling asleep at different points, unlike "Lord of the Rings" I have actually stayed awake right through some of his talks. And some day I would not be surprised to wake up meditating in the lotus position and enlightened by osmosis.
Xristos Pretaniou I hear you - I go to sleep listening to these talks every night. It used to be satsangs and Eckhart Tolle but these are also relaxing ; the inflection and wisdom settles you down.
I actually went to a local buddhist meditation session and I was disappointed. The topic irked me, it was about rebirth and basically the possibility of a lower rebirth as motivation for wholesome action. It too much reminded me of abrahamic religions. Quite sad. I much prefer it like Ajahn Brahm said here, kindness not fear.
So much as i like Ajahn Brahm´s talks, i wished he did not bring up topics like MERS into question. The number of people affected by it does not give the full picture in such cases, because these viruses can spread so quickly that if the actions are not taken quickly, the numbers could rise to millions within a week to months time. Viruses are unpredictable, and mutate so quickly, that sometimes preventive measures and perhaps inciting fear in people is the only way to make people of aware of the forecoming catastrophy. In such cases fear encourages people to get informed on such outbreaks. I therefore believe respected monks like Ajahn Brahm should not give such opinions in public, because those opinions could be very misguiding and can put risk to health of millions of people worldwide.
+udayjee Very true. Especially when you get politicians, journalists and CEOs who start thinking literally like that. As a German I really know what I am talking about right now... BUT I think, if you take talks like this one as an offer pluralistically in a broader and eclectic sense, it can give you benefits. Since we "westerners", or "modern people", or "citizens of materialistic societies", etc. are usually the exact opposite of carless light heads, living in the present without having a worry in the world. So you could balance it out. Maybe in a talk you have to go over the top - Jesus did that, too. But in life: everything in moderation. AND what you really want for people is to get informed, take precautions and lastly make rational decisions in critical situations, under stress and pressure. Fear has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with that. Quite the contrary. So what instead of fear? Not sure. But maybe a start is high energy, being well informed and acting with wisdom which is usually a good balance between patient endurance and mindful decicivnes, present compassion and longterm thinking. Instinct tells us: "fear keeps me save". But actually it's right decisions leading to rightful actions. Maybe this primate of fear really has something to do with our stupid "reptilian brainy parts".
+Socrates ofAthens If you are a german, then you probably know what happened few decades ago in Germany. The case of vaccination against Measles / " Masern". The vaccines were so good, it was literally eradicated. People lost fear of it. The result, people even started to question if the vaccines even work at all. They started to say docs are making purely money out of it. Millions boycotted vaccination against masern. What followed was a masern epidemic. How does it feel, when you are a doc and you have to explain a mother that her child is going to die, because she did not care to vaccinate it? Its a similar case here. Prevention! But to people to actively do it, fear is a necessary evil.
Here I am listening to this talk again! I’m feeling really tired and fatigued ! I have been all day. Is it because of my cancer? It’s been 60 days since my last chemotherapy treatment for Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma aggressive ! I’ve been wanting to go to sleep and never waking up. It’s one of those days. I’m going to listen to Ajahn Brahm for a few hours and see what happens.
I wonder what Ajahn Brahm thinks of stoicism? It has the same idea, that things are out of our control and we should try to hope for the best. It follows that up with the thought, only hope for the universe to go the way it does on its own- rather than hoping that it goes according to what we want. They also think that fear isn't useful, unless it is towards things that can affect your rational thought process. Thank you for another wonderful talk. May all beings be at peace.
DID YOU KNOW! That Henry Ford single handed revolutionized the Work Industry not only by creating the assembly line but by STANDARDIZING The 8H work day and paying a good wage to his employees so they could NOT ONLY BUY the cars they were making but be able to drive them too.

Thank you for speaking the Dhamma Ajahn Brahm.
He does say some crazy things sometimes but he also makes us realise how overly complicated we make our lives. Shows that less is more.

star wars copies many old eastern ideas. as they are often the best :)

I love ajahn brahm and most of his talks, but I think overreaction is good when it comes to highly contagious diseases.
No, it's not.
Question: Perhaps I'm mistaken' but in the 'Kung Fu' series wasn't Shintoism the religion of the monks?
Edward Enderlein From Wikipedia: "The series follows the adventures of Kwai Chang Caine (portrayed by David Carradine as an adult, Keith Carradine as a teenager, and Radames Pera as a young boy), a Shaolin monk who travels through theAmerican Old West armed only with his spiritual training and his skill in martial arts, as he seeks Danny Caine, his half-brother." little cricket 😁
please answer my question...please...
what is the question?
Philip Tran . Buddha don't believe Buddha is a god and most also believe in god. if you are a Christian you are Buddhist too
poor focus on our Ajahm Bwahm. takes away from what he is saying
islam is peace deep inside .. just beleive in one God .. Allah
peace comes from freedom, if you find peace in Allah then that's great but respect not everyone here will feel the same and quoting the qaran doesn't reinforce your point
Thank you 💜
Thank you !
