That's great news. I hope you enjoy looking after your new piggies! There's lots more info on my other videos and on my website here: www.guineapiggles.co.uk x
Thank you so much. We just did a piggy rescue at our local park and suddenly were first time pig owners. After fretting and researching I took the leap and ordered one of these cages, hoping it was a good choice. In the meantime, I just found your video. I’m so relieved. My little critter, Parker, is already settling in and is so sweet. I think it will be even happier when it moves into a bigger home. Again, thank you for your information. It’s been invaluable.
That's fantastic. It's always great to hear when people rescue guinea pigs :) Have you got a friend for Parker? They are always so much happier when they have a little friend. Rescue centres can usually help you bond new guinea pigs with ones you already have. :)
Actually, I was just about to get your sheets. Super helpful. I want to get my piggy into its new home first (should arrive in a couple of days) and get it to trust me enough to find out the gender before I get a friend. We do have Guinea pig rescues here in Phoenix and I’ve seen some cuties that might work. I’m just so glad we found him when we did. It was 106 F. out yesterday. If the coyotes didn’t get him, the heat would. Thanks again.
Thank you for this video! I have mental health issues that sometimes make things confusing, but I had no trouble getting everything together after watching this. You rock!!!!
That's fantastic! I'm really glad this was helpful for you and I hope your piggies are happy in their new home :) Don't forget we have loads of information on our website at www.guineapiggles.co.uk (UK) and www.guineapiggles.com (US)
If you're new to piggies, you might also want to check out our website here www.guineapiggles.com for lots more advice. You can also use the Midwest Habitat without the partition by the way - we've included it in our video to show how it all fits together but taking it out can make it feel a bit more spacious for them :)
this is a wonderfully informative yet simple video. I had two new Midwest cages to assemble and had been putting it off until I had enough time! Well, that is silly because, as so clearly shown in this video, the cage almost assembles itself. Five minutes from unboxing to pig installation! The only concern that I have is that the lid seems wobbly, I would definitely NOT recommend leaving a guinea pig and a cat alone together. A tubby cat could easily cause troubles by sitting on the cage top. I am using the lid as extra insurance in my cat-free guinea pig room. This is such an affordable and readily expandable cage, I wish every guinea pig could have one.
Wish I found this video earlier since I started with a 3 tier "Guinea Pig" cage from a big brand pet store which really isn't great. That 180cm wooden world home in the description looks a lot better think I'll have to get that, thanks big help!
hey!! first off, great video! i love the large great living space that you provided for your guinea pigs! I currently have 1 Guinea pig right now unfortunately!! I wanted to get her a friend, but my parents are really strict about the issue regarding the mess, and I ( plus my siblings ) have to pay for everything for the piggies. I do spend time with my Guinea pig every day, and sometimes let her roam around my room, or downstairs ( while being supervised by me ) for this Christmas, i’m upgrading her cage with 2 of the Midwest cages ( regular ones ) and expanding those ( basicay adding them together ) I also got guineadad liners, along with fleece, hay bags, and some hideouts! I’m thinking of getting her a friend around me birthday ( because it’s my birthday and hard for my parents to say no ) plus, I show a LOT of responsibiliti for my one Guinea pig now. The price will just go a lot higher! I’m excited to get the Midwest cages though!! and hopefully my pig enjoys it as well! Do you have any tips if I only have 1 Guinea pig as of now and what else I should do to make her more happy and less depressed? Sorry for the long paragraph lol.
Are you able to put bedding in the cages instead of fleece? I've been wanting to get at least one of these cages and I've always preferred using bedding.
The best way to upgrade the cage would be to buy a second Midwest and join them together. Male guinea pigs can fight if they don't have enough space. Otherwise, you could look at making a C&C cage - I have a video on how to do that here: th-cam.com/video/2EeiQ-Fzhrk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UgMrbyNKZrgZWMB3
The Habitat Plus has the dividers and lid etc whereas the standard Habitat has the basic cage and the canvas base with no dividers lid etc. But, like you say, you can also buy the components separately. I've put links to where you can buy these in the description :)
Hi I have a question, so can two Guinea pigs live in the cage shown in the video for their whole life ? Or would I need to upgrade I know either way it’s better to upgrade but I just wanted to know because I’m getting two Guinea pigs very soon !
Unfortunately the Midwest isn't large enough for 3 guinea pigs, even if they are all female, and should only house two. Even if they're put outside in a large hutch and run on sunny days, they do need more space in their main cage. Have you considered a C&C cage? We've made a video on how to make a 2x4 C&C here th-cam.com/video/2EeiQ-Fzhrk/w-d-xo.html which would be big enough but even better if you were to make it 2x5. We also have videos on how to make a lid for it or a ramp and loft if you wanted additional space on a second level. You can see the full playlist here th-cam.com/play/PLO-32fuH7734vWsXi2eS_7BlLCniicl0L.html - I hope that helps! :)
@@GuineaPiggles we already ordered the Midwest a few days ago because my dad wanted to get a bunch of storage bins and then stick a pipe through them. I didn't really think that was appropriate so we ordered the midwest instead because it had a bottem and was "hygieneic". He also didn't want anything that had to be built otherwise they will have to go back outside in winter. I'll be looking for ways to expand the cage. I might wait a we bit and them ask them a bout expanding the cage with c&c. :) I'll make sure the pigs are fine don't worry.
Thank you for making this! My parents are finally letting me get two guinea pigs! This is the exact cage I bought. Is there any difference between getting two hogs or two sows? I didn’t think there would be because they would be living together at the pet store, but you’re much more experienced than I am
Hi Katie, it's great to hear you're getting guinea pigs as they're fantastic pets! I would recommend rather than going to the pet shop to go to a rescue centre (or RSPCA or Bluecross) or the adoption section of the pet shop if they have one (Pets at Home in the UK have an adoption section) because there are so many piggies needing good homes. You can check out this page to see if there's a rescue centre in your area www.guineapiggles.co.uk/guinea-pig-rescue-search-results I'd also recommend getting 2 females if you have the Midwest habitat because males tend to need a little more space or they can get aggressive with each other. I hope it all goes well and let me know how you get on :)
@@GuineaPiggles thank you for your reply, I will get two sows if the pet store has them, I did look for guinea pig rescues in my area but I live pretty far off the grid so there isn’t any rescue I can go to.
You can have it with or without the divider. It does keep the food all in one space and they often tend to poop and pee where the hay is but it would be really good without the divider to add more space. You can also connect these Midwest cages to make even more space :)
They're both good cages so it really depends on your preference.. C&C cages are more adaptable as they are made up of grids an connectors but the Midwests come with liner rather than you having to cut to size so these are the main differences. Midwests can be expanded too though by joining together. Check out our playlist on cages - we have several videos about both of these and how to extend them - here's the link: th-cam.com/play/PLO-32fuH7737d7AzjLzzESnhUMEkD_Qnh.html
This isn't their usual cage as we have a super-large cage that we made ourselves. We try out different cages etc though to show you what they're like :)
You really need a bit more space - you could buy a second Midwest Habitat and join them which would give them enough space. Otherwise you may want to consider a 2x4 grid C&C cage - check out this video for more info th-cam.com/video/aM0lKBCuFvM/w-d-xo.html
These are about the best value in a cage, but the rubberized plastic will harden and shrink, over years. Also, you DO need the divider in, or the hinged connection in the middle will push out or inwardly. We were under the impression the plastic should be on the outside with the wire fit in, giving them less opportunity to chew it. Those straps will get gnawed, too. Overall, it makes no difference to guinea pigs. Depends if it does to you. But whatever you do, don't look at our channel. It is antithetical to the order, control, professionalism and reliability of this one. Guinea pigs will have it either way. People, not so much.
You're actually supposed to give them big piles of hay instead of the hay bags. They poop and pee in the hay (it's natural) and they burrow, play, and eat it.
It's a good quality cage so I think it's worth the money but another option that would probably work out cheaper to make a similar size is a C&C cage - have your seen our video on how to make the 2x4 C&C? th-cam.com/video/2EeiQ-Fzhrk/w-d-xo.html :)

If you go to 03:08 in the video, you'll see the divider fits over the each side of the cage top and bottom so it stays in place. I hope that helps.
