The type of cage you have can have a huge effect on how easy it is to keep clean! If you're looking for your first cage or thinking about an upgrade then this video present the five key factors that will help you decide! 🤔 th-cam.com/video/W43PImmXClI/w-d-xo.html
@@welove_promisee I wouldn't recommend it as they don't dry up as fast as fleece. Towels stay damp when guinea pigs pee on them and stepping on damp substrate can cause fungal infections on their little feet.
Without this channel I would’ve been lost when I adopted my two girls. Thank you for all the tips and advice- and entertainment! I always love seeing your pigs and their growth as well.
Tip: I line the litter box with a puppy wee pad and put absorbent horse stall pellets over it. I keep a box of hay over one side of the litter box. That way they don't soil the hay.
This helped me so much! My 2 male guinea pigs’s cage has been REALLY stinky and I didn’t know what to do and starting thinking about giving them away, but after these tips I’ve notice that their cage has smelled and looked A LOT cleaner and even though I’ve started doing this for only 2 days. My ginnies have seemed a lot happier I’ve noticed! Thank you 💝
Boys are always going to smell a bit more because of their urine and scent gland marking. But you can minimise the smell by following the ideas in the video so it’s only noticeable if your face is right near it
i find your channel so helpful! i started watching you first, before i got my girls! and now i have them, and i think you taught me what i have to do! thank youu
These little guys are so awesome! They are almost self sufficient and they are the most sustainable meat source on the planet. Great content! Thank you
I use a dustpan and brush and recently changed to a brush with silicone bristles. Works really well. I find it works even better than the ones with the normal bristles.
Just got my girls recently and did my first big clean today! Combined with my POTS and back problems, it's a big chore that becomes tiring very, very quickly! When my room smelled fresher and the girls were popcorning around, it was all worth it and very satisfying! I love to clean their cage because I can't stand to see them walking around in pills! It made me feel very accomplished!
I have a 6x2 (14" grids) cage with 4 piggies in it. I use 3 layers for the cage floor. The first layer is a fleece blanket for cushion, the second layer are waterproof fabric pads to absorb any moisture, and the top layer are small fabric pads that are like 12x24 that I can pick up individually and shake off into a lined trashcan. I also use a tray filled with hay in it that I feed them greens in as a litter tray, and in the corner with the water bottle I have another corner tray filled with wood shavings to absorb moisture.
Wow, our family is learning SO much from you! We recently had 1 of our daughter's 2 piggies pass away. We rehomed a piggie (Cloudy) to bring another companion to (Skylar). Much to our shock 😲, less than a month after Cloudy joined our family, she gave birth to 3 pups! We've decided to keep everyone, so we're searching for a large habitat to build for our expanded guinea family! Thank you so very much for sharing your ideas & what has worked best for you & your piggies! Our entire family loves ❤️ our pigs & pups like crazy, & we want them to have plenty of space to grow & play, while keeping our sanity for keeping up with the cleaning needs of 5 piggies! 💕💕💕💕💕 We appreciate your guidance!
My five make a lot of mess for such small creatures. I have two of the large fleece pads for the underneath layer which I only change once a week and for the upper layer I use old sheets and I change this every day by rolling it up with all the mess inside. Your set up looks beautiful Sarah.
I appreciate the practical advice that you give on caring for piggies. I have had mine only since March, but I have used lots of your ideas to make my cage clean and special for them. I have 3 females: Cocoa and Daisy, who are American guineas. I also have a baby Teddy Guinea named Lyra, after your sweet girl. ❤️
Sarah you have done such a good job. Cage looks spotless. Piggies look happy and content. You’re a pro at this! Please keep it going. 🎃🐻❄️❤Just love them so much.
I agree with all this so much! We have a very large cage for 7 and have 2 litter areas. Daily spot cleaning helps so much in the over all appearance and smell. Oh and we use a black and decker handheld vacuum. It is a life saver!
Aww Lyra looks so sweet - even after everyone jumped in after her when you topped off the hay! My brother brought home our first pigs back in 1975(!)- I was 7, my brother 10. We weren't always the best then for cleaning, and while my mom was not a fan of gpiggies, she always cared for them in our deficiency! She used to have this huge vacuum that you would attach by hose to the wall (it would dump out into a furnace thingy in the garage!). She would stick the other side of the hose in the piggy houses and vacuum all around them. Sometimes she would accidentally get a piggy tush sucked up in there too! They would popcorn around, acting crazy. I had a good laugh watching you dump hay over the newspaper because I thought, what a perfect way to celebrate political news - let piggies poop on it! I always used to take the time to read the paper right before cleaning so I could then recycle it in the piggy houses. LOL
I completely agree with the cage size and pooping areas. Before I upgraded my guinea pig cage by double the size, my girls would poop anywhere, everywhere. Then when I upgraded it, I realized there wasn't much poop in the main, open area. Instead my girls were mostly pooping in a corner by the hay feeders. Though, there are some stray poops too. My male also does this.
I use a vacuum to help clean and use a Black and Decker Furbuster with the motorized silicone head. It can clog with hay but it’s easy to clean out and I find the brush head does an awesome job getting the hair and food/hay dust out of our fleece. I will say that the first few times we used it the piggies were scared of it. But now they pretty quickly figured out it’s for cleaning and that won them over.
I'm thinking of getting a guinea pig, and i've been watching some of your videos, and they really help me understand some things I would have never understood, and this is going to help me in the future if/when I get one ☺
Thanks for such great advice and I am really trying to follow your suggestions 😀 😊. I feel that taking care of my piggies is becoming easier now. I also save your videos so take I can refer back to them if I face a problem 😅 🙃 so thanks for the upbeat it helps.
I use a beldray pet rubber dustpan brush £3 from B&M (UK). Very good for picking up poops, hair and any hay from fleece bedding. You can wash the brush too when it gets a bit dirty
I'm so thankful I came across your channel when I adopted two senior piggies a month ago. I had two piggies growing up, but this was in the 90s when I was little and neither myself or my parents knew the dangers of keeping them seperate, salt licks, cedar wood chips. Etc. They both still did live along time and one was super sweet that enjoyed lap time and purred and closed her eyes when pet, so I try not to feel too bad about my ignorance. Anyways wow the fleece made such a difference! So much more sustainable and manageable now that I'm a mom with young kids. We love our piggies we have now so much. They went from a small starter cage, veggies only occasionally as a treat from the previous owner, to a nice big Midwest cage with fleece, hidies, and appropriate veggies daily. They popcorn all the time now and it's thanks to your wonderful videos!
Hi Sarah! I’m going to get a pair of two males for my birthday! I would very much appreciate you doing a video on how to understand normal Guinea pig behaviour and not normal behaviour. Thank you for your advice you make amazing videos and I hope you can help!!!!
I will have to remember to put towels under the fleece! They always seem to burrow in towels but hopefully won't now that the fleece is over it! I made them a dig box since they like to burrow, but low and behold, they decided it was a litter box!! Still stray poos and pee here and there but I'm very surprised that they decided to go in a box! I love to spot clean their cage and often do it 3-4 times a day! I can't stand to see them walking around in poo! I also immediately soak up any pee the moment I see/hear it! I don't want them getting infected feet! I was so scared of a bad smell before getting them but they actually don't smell very bad!! Their cage has an animal like musk, but they are not nearly as dirty as my dogs!! Love your videos!! Daisy and Honey say hi!!
My tip is use a table top dustpan and brush, the kind that's designed for 6sweeping crumbs off tablecloths, they're smaller and good for getting into cage spaces
I have two guinea pigs their names are Pancakes and Roxi. I named Roxi after your adorable piggie! This cleaning video has really helped, considering all the stink and poop! Thx so much I love the adorable piggies
I use a rubber brush with my dustpan, its more gentle on the fleece or vet bed and I find does a great job getting the hair up as well. I do have a hand held vacumme with a long thin piece that folds out that makes suction more precise for a hard to reach corner I have if spot cleaning, it works well for poops but not so great for the hair when compared to the rubber bristled brush.
I use BLACK+DECKER dustbuster AdvancedClean+ Handheld Pet Vacuum With Base Charger to cleanup the poops that are not buried/mixed with hay. Then I use hand broom an dustpan for the hay.
Sarah, yours is the best piggie channel on YT. I like what you do with your hay/litter tray. I'm a newbie piggie owner (at 53 years old 😂🧓) and am currently just using cardboard boxes as the hay tray but each month when I get paid I will build up on their set up. Can I ask where you bought your hammock from because there are so many with varied prices on the internet.
I literally stick the entire tube of my shop vac into my cages for spot cleans, lol. I find it gets up even stray hay the trick is to hold it at the right angle so it doesn't suck up the fleece
Insoiring video. I find cleaning out my 3 guinea pigs very satisfying and relaxing. They have a 2 x 11 c and c cage with ikea dolls beds which they love to lie under. They also have a magazine rackmfull of haya on shallow hay trys lined with newspaper and more hay!
i did find this helpful although i am genuinely curious and not trying to judge. but can’t you just make a hay feeder so they can’t poop and pee in their hay?
Hello there, getting together all our materials for our piggies including our c&c 5x2 large cage. Can I please ask what the dimensions of your hay tray is? WxHxL would be great to know 🙏 Also, what did you use to cut out the entrance? Thank you for your help 🥰 xx
We have a large cage for our 5 guinea pig girls, but they love to pee wherever they rest. Sometimes they miss the pad underneath them, and the side of the cage gets wet....so, I always run the liner up the side wherever I have their hidey tunnel type houses. I flip their pads one day and change it out the next....some are soaked! They poo wherever and whenever. I have 3 largish litter pans in their cage, and they still go all over. I have resolved myself to the fact that I have messy pigs! 😂 Soon I'll be setting them up with a new cage design, and I'm hoping having even larger litter pans will help.
The best way to preserve the wooden cage floor is to lay it with linoleum. Then put the fleece on top of it. Actually linoleum in itself might be enough, but we all know how piggies like the extra cozy softness 🤗
Very helpful video. When ur able to post a new vid ( i know ur taking a break with all that's going on with Lyra) maybe a vid on how to stay motivated to spot clean
I couldn't do without my Bissell Perfect Sweep Turbo for getting up hay off the fleece in the cage floor, as well as vacuuming all mats before they go in wash machine.. You can take off the handle because the on/off switch is on the base. Very easy to empty too.
I do spot cleaning every morning too and then in the afternoon or coming night l clean and change all the fleese and put to wash (the fleese not the piggies )😁
My piggies are still babies Pepsi & Sprite! Since I found your channel it has helped so much! Did you make your fleece bedding? Cant find one that fits my big cage.
i have 4 thin pads over the fleece that are easy to brush off i pick them up dump them in trash and sweep them clean in trash can makes cleaning cage easy i rotate the pads each day so they get hung up to dry then i can use them twice before washing
I've got to do a spot clean as the piggies have been inside for 24 hours. Not that they seem to care but they will soon. I tried the vacuum last week but it was too powerful. The main problem I have is that I'm using towels. Which means I need a few of them which makes it a little more difficult. I'm still trying to buy fleece but every time I go too the store in town it's been closed. The girls love burying themselves in the litter-box which is super cute. I only replace the hay a couple times a week as it's so expensive. Stores here only hold lucerne so I have to get it shipped from Sydney.
My coworker makes pee pads for me with the fabric I bought. I can't wait until they are done! I wanted those because Fien, my female piggy pees on the fleeceliners while Fred, the male, on the toilet 😁 I also clean the toilet every day same as spot cleaning and the top fleece liners changing to clean ones. I want no smell in my house and for me it works 😊
Can I ask how many pads/extra beds etc do you have for back up? Sizes would be great. We are getting 2 male piggies in a month and I want to be super prepared. You channel has been a great insight on what to expect.
I use Lunnen Dust Free Hay as their main bedding hay and the Haybox Timothy Blend one as a sprinkle on top and in the wood roll/bowls around their cage :)
I am so thankful to have found you! your tips and tricks have helped my piggies and i very much in these past few tricky weeks. I so wish i could ask you questions all day long! 😂 you make me feel more assured about some of the weird things i may experience being a new piggie mama. my babies get quite happy when they hear your voice and your piggies! they’re like “ooooh, mama is learnin some good stuff” 😊🫶🏻🐽
Hiya. I've tried building my own hammock structure for my guinea pigs (which didn't go quite to plan) and have searched online with no luck so, hoping you'll be able to let me know where you bought your hammock structure for your piggies? Thanks : )
Hi Sarah Hope you and piggies are well. Just wondering how you trim or cut Pedro's hair. As I'm having difficulty in cutting my long haired piggy. If you'll be so kind as to offer any advice it would be much appreciated.
I have a "poover" but its just a very cheap handheld. Its mostly just for after sweeping for all those little hairs and the odd poop for that more "valeted" look I'm lucky my two boys tend to poop exclusively in their haypile so I'm quite lucky
there's tons of information for c&c cages on the internet, which would probably work well for you! i think she has a video or two on how she built this cage as well :)
The type of cage you have can have a huge effect on how easy it is to keep clean! If you're looking for your first cage or thinking about an upgrade then this video present the five key factors that will help you decide! 🤔 th-cam.com/video/W43PImmXClI/w-d-xo.html
Is it ok to just use towels for bedding?
@@welove_promisee I wouldn't recommend it as they don't dry up as fast as fleece. Towels stay damp when guinea pigs pee on them and stepping on damp substrate can cause fungal infections on their little feet.
please i need to know something i really hope you see this but i clean my piggies cage with vinegar and i dont know if that enough

It's surprisingly really satisfying to finish the cage clean..it's a chore but I found it really therapeutic.x

Got my own piggies recently and I have been binge watching your videos! Love your content and sense of style!
One of my guinea pig was also named Lyra, hearing her name again warmed my heart
Aww Lyra looks so sweet - even after everyone jumped in after her when you topped off the hay! My brother brought home our first pigs back in 1975(!)- I was 7, my brother 10. I second the Black+Decker Furbuster!
I’m subscribed just want to let people know that yes spot cleaning with a handheld vacuum helps very much! A wet dry vacuum works well too!
Having a big cage is so beneficial in so many ways! It definitely helps for cleaning.
Thank you! I notice that my piggies are so happy with their clean cage!
You helped me so much having a clean cage, I really apreciate it!

My guineas live in 2 Midwest cages and they are sooo much happier and growling at each other less! they love snuggling in fleece!
i’m hoping to upgrade my guinea pig, Cookie Dough’s cage soon and this video is perfect!

I use a Bissell Perfect Sweep Turbo sweeper for my cage for Beans and Rice.
Another great video. I was not prepared for the old footage of Lyra ❤️
Yes this is an older video I chose to link back to in the new one. Lovely Lyra, we miss you!💚
Your channel is my favorite. Thank you so much Sarah 🥰
Great video! Im switching to fleece very soon, just waiting for my kavee liners to arrive! im also upgrading my two girls to a 5x2!
My tip is use a table top dustpan and brush, the kind that's designed for 6sweeping crumbs off tablecloths, they're smaller and good for getting into cage spaces
Love your channel.its full of useful information ❤❤
Thanks again, Sarah. Sharing. 😊
Very nice! You could consider your paper in the litterbox and hay racks to conserve more hay & keep it cleaner. ❤
I have two guinea pigs their names are Pancakes and Roxi. I named Roxi after your adorable piggie! This cleaning video has really helped, considering all the stink and poop! Thx so much
I love the adorable piggies
I think she mentions on some of her older videos that she built that one herself. I think she may have some DIY videos about it as well !
I love your channel and the piggies are ssoooooo adorable 🥰💗💜❤️
Love this video, amazing tips!
Also, as an American, I love your accent. 💜
I love your videos and piggies
I use a hand held cordless vacuum. Its great for getting up poops from 11 piggies. I spot c.ean twice a day and change the main fleece once a week.
That sounds great, especially with 11! What brand is it? 😊
I use a dirt devil small handheld vacuum that I keep in the room with them that I use in the morning to suction up the poop it works amazing!!
I do spot cleaning every morning too and then in the afternoon or coming night l clean and change all the fleese and put to wash (the fleese not the piggies )😁
thankyou! This really helped!
Thanks I went to buybuy baby and bought waterproof blankets and crib sheet covers and some fleece baby blankets.
My piggies are still babies Pepsi & Sprite! Since I found your channel it has helped so much! Did you make your fleece bedding? Cant find one that fits my big cage.
lyra looks good!
Maybe an odd question but how did you cut the plastic from the front of the hay tray without it cracking?
awww how much guinea pigs do you have ?😍😍 you must be in love with guinea pigs !
i have 4 thin pads over the fleece that are easy to brush off i pick them up dump them in trash and sweep them clean in trash can makes cleaning cage easy i rotate the pads each day so they get hung up to dry then i can use them twice before washing
Can we fill the litter tray with regular litter instead of hay so we don’t waste so much? Or is that not how it works? Thank you! 💕
I've got to do a spot clean as the piggies have been inside for 24 hours. Not that they seem to care but they will soon. I tried the vacuum last week but it was too powerful. The main problem I have is that I'm using towels. Which means I need a few of them which makes it a little more difficult. Hello!! Nice video. Where can I get the White cage structure and how is it called? Tyy
Hello Squeak Dreams!!! I am so interested in the piggy hammock and the wooden stand, was just wondering where did you get it from? Thank you! Xx
I cut a page out of a “ hard page “ kids book and works great for scooping poo around
Can I ask how many pads/extra beds etc do you have for back up? Sizes would be great. We are getting 2 male piggies in a month and I want to be super prepared. You channel has been a great insight on what to expect.
If you haven’t already, could you please make a video about pellets! I have done my research but am still so confused and have so many questions!
This is a strange qustion but what kind of hay do you use it just looks really fresh and nice
Where do you find and buy those little spotty fleece pads?
I did use a dust buster but it broke so i'm gonna try and get another
so cute
Hi Sarah. What is the size of your litter box/storage box (w) (l) (h). So many to choose from and I would like one your size. Thanks Elaine.
I want the exact same cage you have! Did you make it yourself or can it be ordered??
Hiya. I've tried building my own hammock structure for my guinea pigs (which didn't go quite to plan) and have searched online with no luck so, hoping you'll be able to let me know where you bought your hammock structure for your piggies?
Thanks : )

Hi Sarah
Hope you and piggies are well. Just wondering how you trim or cut Pedro's hair. As I'm having difficulty in cutting my long haired piggy. If you'll be so kind as to offer any advice it would be much appreciated.
your hay seems very soft where did you buy them?
what kind of hay do you get. That could get pricey to have to dump hay in the garbage daily. Do you find it is bulk that is cheaper?
Hii I use a dyson hoover with the small lenses it’s so easy to hoover up poo
I made a similar cage to this. Is ventilation a problem?
Amazing 🤩
I use fleece and do a spot clean in the morning and a big clean in the evening
I have a "poover" but its just a very cheap handheld. Its mostly just for after sweeping for all those little hairs and the odd poop for that more "valeted" look I'm lucky my two boys tend to poop exclusively in their haypile so I'm quite lucky
where did u get that cage? i have a 5'5" by 1'6"cage for three and i think i need to up size. what is some good advice?
She buit it
there's tons of information for c&c cages on the internet, which would probably work well for you! i think she has a video or two on how she built this cage as well :)
How do you got that cage? You buyed it or made it yourself?
And also, what brush do you use for sweeping up the poops?
What type of fabric do you use under the fleece??
Hi is it ok if you can show us the link to the hammock
How often to clean and get the used hay of the guinea pigs sar?
