The acclimating yourself to the altitude is so important if you come up a day before and just relax and drink water and just be calm and then the next day go snowboard it helps a ton and you have have a lot better time boarding but then again I am from colorado and lived here my whole life so its not a 100% chance altitude won't get you just because your body has not felt it and I also think the mental part is the biggest problem and that is what truely gets you!!
So true story: I went to Vail for a week back in 2020 (first time riding Colorado). Before driving through the mountains, I picked up two 6oz cans of O2 at a grocery store (as mentioned at 1:49). Best decision ever made! I mean, some people may not need them if you are used to being that high up from sea level. But if you're not, it definitely helps. What's great is they fit in your jacket pockets. If you pace your usage of the O2 when you need it, you can go a whole week on that. 👍
I start 3 days prior to my trip. First full day your body will want to get rid of most of that water, then the next two it starts to retain. Makes it so much better. You NEED at least one day prior to travel to let your body learn to retain though.Thats truly the trick. And drinking water while traveling is some times a bit difficult so if you're loaded with water it really helps. This comes from someone who finally figured it out after multiple incidents of bad sickness.
Sorry Johnny, Altitude sickness is a thing. Though I agree it's easily prevented, Acute Mountain Sickness is potentially deadly if ignored. Everything you have said as I type this sounds like great ways to prevent it! Good on ya!
Altitude sickness prevention that basically have ginkgo as the main ingredient helps too. I live here in CO and I take those before riding and notice a difference, and have gotten visiting family members on those who’ve said it helped a lot.
Yep, hydrate, BEFORE you leave for high altitude. Quick Method for average daily hydration: take half your body weight, and drink that amount in ounces of water. Example: your weight = 200 lbs /0.5 = Drink 100 oz./day. 1 Liter bottle of water = 33.8 ounces. So if you weighed 200 lbs. in this example you'd drink 2.95 liters/day AT LEAST. Acute Mountain Sickness is no joke. I had a friend almost leave this world because of a more serious form of Acute Mountain Sickness while we were at Telluride. At higher altitudes, the pressure of the air around you (barometric pressure) decreases so there is less oxygen in surrounding air. People can live comfortably at moderately high altitudes, but the body must make some adjustments, and this takes time. If you ascend to altitudes above 8,000 feet, you will be in danger of developing uncomfortable or dangerous symptoms from the change in altitude.
I really wanna get into snowboarding but I cant afford a snowboard rn my friend is always going but I don't have a snow board and the cost of rentals are to high :(

Alt sickness is from lack of Oxygen… if you start taking deep breaths on the chair or when you feel light headed, it will help

What can I take to help with altitude acclimation
Lock In Johnny Spaulding bowl at copper opened today and some great steep powder in resolution bowl
Yesterday was my first day at keystone and my head almost exploded from altitude. W timing.
bro whenever i come up above 7000 ft i always have to #2😭
The science behind canned air is bunk. It is not 99% oxygen like you need for 1. And 2, it starts to unwind as soon as you stop using it.
Yeah man love your Videos I'm going up to copper or keystone soon for my siblings baptism I don't know maybe I'll see you If there's some good snow

One thing I do that can help is to not eat sugary or greasy food on your first couple of days.
Elevation = height above sea level
Altitude = height about ground level
